Its name was Wong Mau. After a long breeding period of using the Siamese cat, the Burmese was established as a breed. Their are four recognized colors by Cat Fanciers Association, sable, champagne, blue and platinum.

Having been a dog lover all my life, I never dreamed I would end up with a cat. We were on vacation and met some friends of our family who had a Burmese cat. I love all animals and this was a sable color Burmese. I picked it up from sleeping on a bed and immediately noticed how heavy it was. They are very heavily muscled cats and are often described as a "brick wrapped in silk" I picked this cat up and it just laid it's head on my shoulder as if I were its caretaker.

When we got home I had to learn more about this cat that I had never heard of. We did some searching and here is what we found.

1. They originated from Burma back in the 1930's 2. They are a very heavy cat for their size. 3. They are described as dog like because of the following. A. They like to fetch a ball. B. They like to ride in the car if introduced at a young age. C. They like other dogs. D. They will lick your face. E. Some will seem to communicate with soft talk like noises. 4. Easy to groom. 5. Good with children. 6. They stay very playful into adulthood.

They have a short coat so they are easy to groom. Their eyes are large and very telling when they look at you and they do like to look at their owners. They love to be held.

We did find a Burmese and named him Sid. He is a year old now and exhibits some cat behaviors you would never expect from a cat. He does love to be held. In fact lately if I get close to him, he will sit up and put his paws on me wanting up. I thought it would be cute to say do you want up, up, up and now he jumps to get in my arms, sometimes from a little too far and I end up with an unintended scratch.

They are very playful as kittens and adults. They become very intelligent and become their own cat as they mature. They can take over the household and in our case, Sid rules. We had two dogs when we brought SID home and they both jump when he says jump. Sid is a very curious cat as most are and wants to always be right in the middle of whatever you're doing. He is fascinated by smell and must smell everything you are about to put in your mouth. He loves paper and will jump into the cupboard if you give him a chance.

In this breed the male is more laid back and loves the lap of any person he trusts. Females tend to be more aggressive. Sid loves our longhaired Dachshund, they are best friends but sometimes the thought of a feline type friend seems appealing.

This cat has turned at least this dog lover into a sometimes cat enthusiast.
Since the beginning of the 20th century, Siamese were bred to show some standards.

One of these standards is the wedge shape of their head. This can also cause some problems for the Siamese cats when eating. When Siamese eat dry food, they grind it a little and then swallow almost whole kibbles. Some cat food producers shaped those kibbles like donuts. Therefore it is a lot easier for cats to grind and swallow the kibbles that surround their teeth.

Because they can't chew the dry food, Siamese loose the advantage that other cats have which is cleaning their teeth while eating dry food. This is why Siamese cats have so many problems with gingivitis.

Gingivitis is an illness that can affect human and animals as well. This illness causes gum inflammation. One of the main causes of this affection is the tartar buildup. The bacteria in the mouth, combined with the tartar builds up around the teeth causing gingivitis. Gingivitis causes pain while eating; therefore your cat may even refuse to do it any more.

If your cat refuses to eat, you should check to see if she has gingivitis. If you leave this illness untreated your cat's teeth will start to loose teeth. The plaque in your cat's mouth can lead to other illness and can even weaken your cat's immune system.

Ultrasonic and polish are two examples of gingivitis treatments. You must take your cat to the vet to check is she has gingivitis periodically. Else your cat may loose her teeth.

A dental check is usually done by the vet while your cat is anaesthetized. A vet can check your cat's mouth but he will not be able to produce an accurate diagnostic until your cat is under anesthetic.

Some cat's tolerate teeth brushing therefore you can acquire some special cat products that you can find in pet shops. Your vet might even recommend some food that fight's against tartar and plaque buildup. However some cats might even refuse to eat dry food because of their mouth's shape.

It is very important to understand the Siamese cat's anatomy. To keep gingivitis away from your cat's mouth you must brush your cat's teeth daily and also take your cat to the vet periodically.

Siamese are great cats. Normally they're healthy long living cats. A great way to make your cat's life happier is by taking care of her teeth and mouth.
The average pet owner selects a pet and May did not realize the complexity of different races. One of the most interesting animals is the Siamese Cat.
The precise origin of Siamese is unknown. May race are descendants of cats in the sacred temple of Siam, now known as Thailand. Siamese is distinguished by a cream coat and dark single "points" on the ears, face, tail and legs. These marks are not present at birth, because they are the result of an enzyme in the Siamese "fur. The enzyme is not activated at normal body temperature, so that items appear in dark their ends where temperatures are cooler. The usually develop when the kitten is four weeks.

For decades, the show allowed for simonies very dark brown, or seal color points. However, products of rearing cats with many variations in structure, including chocolate, lilac, blue and red points. Today, seal, chocolate, lilac and blue points are allowed to show the United States. As the cat ages, its cream fur in May to turn to a pale shadow of its color. This is particularly true of Siamese with color seal points.

Initially, many Siamese a twisted tail and crossed eyes. Crossing the eyes has been caused by an overproduction of the enzyme that produces colored dots on the ends. These traits are considered as defects in the show ring, for breeders working to eliminate them. Siamese are also known for their strike, eyes blue.
Siamese have much in common with dogs as they do with other cats. They are not the archetypal cat-independent and can become extremely attached to their owners. Siamese are exceptionally intelligent, which makes them easy to train information. Some even learn typical dog tricks, like fetching and walking on a leash.
The Siamese Cat has short, smooth hair that requires little grooming. A good brushing to remove hair and reduce shedding and cats enjoy the May gentle massage. However, it is not necessary, because they are also meticulous in grooming themselves than most breeds of cats.

Sterilization in general avoids a male cat spraying. It procedure can be done before the male cat is six months. Those who are considering adopting a Siamese Cat should be informed that the females go into heat in May at the age of five months, but should not be sterilized before they reach six months.

Siamese have a very distinctive voice, which is often compared to a human baby crying. So it can reach decibel levels as high as those of emergency sirens.
They are even considered as royalty during ancient times due to its blue eyes and triangular or apple shaped face. If you are interested to take care of one, the first thing you should do is to find a responsible breeder. This will ensure that the cat is in good health and does not have feline leukemia virus or feline immunodeficiency virus.

They can cost to around $200 to $500. When you have found a Siamese cat of your choice, make sure that you hold it to check for good muscle tone. Also, make sure that the feline is not sneezing or sniffling or that the eyes have no discharge and that the ears are clean and pink inside.

You should consider the fur of the animal. Siamese cats have short and smooth fur and have no bald patches or signs of dry or flaky skin. You should also check for fleas. They are usually found behind the ears and at the base of the tail. You can look for black sand on the animal as this is flea dirt and is a sure sign that the cat has fleas.

When you have chosen one, be sure that you get a written sales agreement from the breeder that provides the breeder's health guarantee. You should also take the cat to the veterinarian as soon as you can to ensure that it is healthy. You also need to have a good veterinarian for your pet and know where the nearest emergency pet hospital in case the cat gets sick after hours.

You must also make sure that if you are buying a kitten, it should be not younger than 12 weeks of age. Plan to keep the animal inside and get it neutered or sprayed at around 5 months. They can go into heat quite young. This is the best way to keep it happy and disease free. It also helps prolong their lives.

Like all pets, you also need to keep your cat clean, give it cool water and food. You can pick a dry food or can food that is nutritional and made for you cats specific needs. If you have a kitten, you should pick a kitten food. To keep them away from disease, you should also clean you cats litter box regularly.

Siamese cats are affectionate and social animals. They are good with children and adults. However, they demand to be entertained but they will also keep you happy in return. Take note that they are the type of animal that likes to climb to high places in your home. They can also be loud as they like to talk and they have harsh voices. You must also know that they thrive on human interaction. Thus, if you are rarely home, having this breed of cat may not be good for you or the Siamese cat. They require time to play with you and enjoy catnip and cat toys.
There are a lot of breeders and pet stores that produce Siamese kittens for the sake of profit only without having any regard for the health and well being of the kitten. If bred in an unhealthy environment, Siamese kittens can have a multitude of problems inside. However, they look adorable after all.

Clear Eyes

The predominant specific characteristic of the Siamese kittens is on the eyes. They have striking blue eyes that become one of the popular breed’s trademarks. If you find the Siamese kitten’s eyes seem having a problem in focusing or have much discharge, it means this cat may have problems later on. So, do not choose this kitten or bring it to the attention of the seller even though these problems may be resolved later on or may have an easy solution from the veterinarian.

More often than not, Siamese cats have the appearance of being near cross-eyed. This appearance of being sometimes cross-eyed is something that is common in the breed. So, the Siamese kitten that you pick must have look like this.

Smooth, Clean Coat

After considering the eyes, you then have to ascertain the Siamese kitten that you choose has a smooth and clean coat. There are short haired and long haired varieties of the breed so the type of coat may differ from each other but the smoothness must be there as well as the cleanliness. Bumpy areas and some dark droppings on the coat can indicate parasites or a case of skin problems. It is actually relatively easy to resolve skin problems but there may be cases of skin allergies.

Cleanliness is a thing that is moderately natural to a cat no matter its kind. Your Siamese kitten should learn early from through instincts to clean its coat well and keep it in good shape. The usually color for a Siamese kitten is a very light creamy color to a golden brown with the obligatory darker areas in the tail end, ears tips, paws and parts of the face.

Nature

A healthy cat is frequently inquisitive and curious and thus it’s important to ascertain that your Siamese kitten show shows this behavior. Your Siamese kitten may shows as a shy cat that has some problems with socialization when introduced to other cats or other pets. It is quite normal however, so you do not have to worry about it.
Only in the 19th century the country was called Siam thus Siamese Cats.

Perhaps the most famous of all cat breeds, Siamese are characterized by long, muscular bodies, blue almond eyes, and a short, shiny coat.

This breed is as personable as it is beautiful. They adore people, especially their laps, and they give love just as well as they soak it up. Siamese cats are also very intelligent.

The breed favors high places like book shelves, hutches and top of cupboards. Most enjoy visitors and show their hospitality by seeking out the lone person who either hates cats or is highly allergic to them.

Another one of the Siamese's favorite past times is "smurgling." That's when they knead a piece of fabric while sucking or drooling on it. Don't worry, it's much cuter than it sounds.

One of the most unique aspects of the Siamese breed is their voice. At times they can sound like their tail is caught in a blender but they're not hurt they're just trying to get your attention. Their low pitch meow is called a "meezer." It's often mistaken for a baby's cry.

When talking about the Siamese, or any other cat for that matter, you'll often hear the term "points." Points refer to the "ends" of a cat: face, ears, tail and paws. Generally "points" are used in connection with a color.

In the United States, the Cat Fanciers' Association-the largest cat breed registry in the world and the standard setter for cats in North America-considers just four colorations as Siamese: seal point, blue point, chocolate point, and lilac point.

Interestingly enough, all Siamese cats are born white, more or less. They only gain their distinctive coloring after they've cooled. They have a mutated-enzyme that doesn't work at normal body temperatures but does work in cooler areas like the ears, tail and paws.

The face, which also becomes colored, is cooled by the cat's sinus passages. Color markings become clearly visible by the fourth week of a cat's life. Siamese do tend to darken as they age and extreme climates can also play a part in the animal's appearance.

In recent years, the bred has split into two, modern and traditional. Modern Siamese cats are sleeker and have distinct triangle faces. It is this type of Siamese that breeders use in competitions.

Great care and effort has gone into preserving traditional Siamese cats. Even so, there are relatively very few purebreds around. Many cats that look Siamese are in fact domestic cats with Siamese traits.

Originally, Siamese cats had crossed-eyes and kinked tails. These so-called "undesirable" traits have been bred-out even though they pose no problem for the cat. Occasionally, these characteristics pop up in newborns.

If you're thinking about getting a Siamese cat prepare to pay between $200 and $800. They are good with kids, old people, and if introduced early, with other pets.

A pair of same-age Siamese cats are fine as they will keep each other company while you're away. However, Siamese crave human attention. So if you don't plan on being home very often Siamese cats may not be the pet for you.

The single most important thing to know about Siamese cats is they must stay indoors. In fact, most breeders won't sell a cat if they believe it will be let outdoors. Most sellers make buyers sign a contract stating they'll keep the cat inside. Why? Simply because indoor cats have a much longer life span and are far healthier than their outdoor counterparts.

Siamese Cats are one of the world's oldest domestic cats. They are cute and cuddly with tons of personality and tons of love to give. They make great pets and they make great show animals. They are also relatively easy to care for and are known for living well into their 20's.

Siamese are the perfect companion for just about any cat lover.

They had always been a popular breed of cats, some even residing in royal palaces. Siamese cats, in the past, were trusted to protect royal palaces and monasteries from evil spirits. These cats were also thought of as bringing good fortune to their owners as well.

During the year of 1884, the very first Siamese cats began to make their way to England, when they were given as gifts to a British general. After that, they eventually made their way over to America. Now days, Siamese cats are one of the most recognized of the breed. Siamese cats are without a doubt the most popular short haired cat and among the top 3 in the entire breed of cats.

Even though there are several different colors to this breed, some questions what makes a cat a true Siamese cat. These cats have always been known for their bodies which are lighter in color, with darker areas throughout. The more darker areas found on their bodies are normally around the feet, tail, legs, or face. They can weight anywhere between 6 - 16 lbs, with bright eyes that are normally slanted - which is another clue that the cat is a true Siamese.

Traditionally, Siamese cats are robust, with round heads and a truly muscular build. They are well known throughout the world for their color points and unique personalities. Unlike other breeds, Siamese breeds have a talent for communicating with people. If you are looking for a cat that is nice and quiet, you wouldn't want a Siamese cat. These cats love to play, love to make noise, and they also happen to be the most social breed of cats out there.

Siamese cats demand a lot of attention, because in their minds, they believe that the world revolves around them. For this very reason, they can tend be quite dependant on their owners. They love to play, and crave interaction. If you leave them alone for too long, they won't like it. They like to get attention, love to play, and hate to be left by themselves.

Even though Siamese cats are emotionally high maintenance, they don't need a lot of maintenance They need a minimum amount of grooming, which involves bathing every once in a while, and brushing maybe once or twice a month. If you like cats with minimal maintenance, Siamese cats are perfect. Their hair is short to their skin, so a gentle brushing is all you need. They can get sick however, which is to be expected with any breed of cat.

Siamese cats have a life span that is similar to other breeds, which is normally around 15 - 20 years, sometimes even longer. As long as you feed him on a daily basis and take him to the vet for his regular checkups and shots, he will be around for years and years to come. Most people who have their Siamese cat for over 10 years, find the cat to be more like a child than a pet.

No matter how you look at it, a Siamese cat is a great pet. Although the Siamese breed does require a lot of attention, they are excellent pets that you can spend a lot of time with. They are great for kids as well, simply because kids can spend a lot of time with them. As long as you give your pet the attention he craves - he will be your life long friend for as long as you have him.

The Siamese cat may be just the perfect match for your household.

Origins and History of the Siamese Cat

The Siamese is one of the oldest breeds of domestic cats known to man, originating from Asia. It's oriental heritage is very interesting, and the name 'siamese' comes from Siam, which is now known as Thailand. According to some legends, the Siamese was once considered sacred, and kept in temples by priests, and people of extreme importance.

Siamese Cat Appearance and Personality

The Siamese breed can easily be identified by their long slender appearance and the point markings of the body. Point simply means dark colored extremities (tail, ears, etc.) and crème or light colored body. There are many color patterns but the most common are chocolate, blue, and lilac points. The Siamese cat is medium in size and you can expect adult males to reach 10-15 lbs in weight as an average, and females to grow as large as 10 lbs.

Independent and demanding are two words that come to mind when describing the character of the breed. Siamese cats are very vocal animals and have a unique voice that is definitely one of a kind. They are very intelligent cats and graceful with their movements. They demand attention and want to be the center of attention, but also require to be left alone at certain times. Siamese cats generally are good with children although it is recommended to get a kitten and get them socialized at an early age if possible.

There are actually some decendants of the Siamese cat breed including: Balinese, Javanese, Oriental Longhair , Oriental Shorthair, Colorpoint Shorthair, Havana, Foreign White, Seychellois, Ocicat, Snowshoe, Tonkinese

Where To Get A Siamese Cat?

If you are ready to start looking for a Siamese cat the best place to start is by browsing your local newspaper or talking with your veterinarian to local local breeders in your area. You can also search for Siamese breeders on the Web and get contact information. Once you find a local breeder you want to visit their cattery and view the health of the kittens. Make sure to read the rules of their contract and judge if everything is fair and the breeder is reputable. You also want to get registered papers and find out if they offer a health guarantee for the kitten you are buying. Expect to pay a deposit at least and setup a date to take your new kitten home once they are litter trained and old enough to leave.

They are a type of cat that is warm and affectionate and bonds with their human very closely which means that the Siamese is not quite as independent as other cats . The Siamese cat can be very demanding. These cats become totally involved in their owner's life. Having this close relationship with their human, they prefer and enjoy the inside confines of home with their owners. They are a "people" cat like no other cat for they love to be on your lap, on your bed, at your table, and in your heart!

Besides its stunning, intelligent blue eyes and the gorgeous two-toned coat, a distinctive feature of this breed is that it has a very loud and distinctive low pitch to its voice. You might wish this breed came with a mute button. Siamese are vocal and demanding, capable of conveying its wants in a range from mews to loud raspy calls. The intensity of the vocalization should not be prolonged if you are smart enough to understand what they want. Most of the time the Siamese will talk at conversational levels, and they always have something very important to say. So the Siamese cat personality is very talkative.

In the hierarchy of cat intelligence, the Siamese stands on top. It has been indicated that Siamese and other oriental short hairs are the most intelligent of all domesticated cats. Anyone who has owned one will boast on tales and the amazing feats that these cats can accomplish. Highly intelligent, this breed can be trained to perform commands and tricks and has proven to be a viable competitor in feline agility. You may want to "cat-proof" your home for a Siamese can learn how to open doors, cabinets, and latches. Actually these cats love the challenge of these feats, and will not give up. They find creative and unusual ways to get into trouble.

Siamese cats do everything in a more exaggerated way, they interact on a different level to other cats and their humans. You will find that their emotions, whether good or bad, are more enhanced. If they are in a good mood, expect great levels of affection, but if they are in a bad mood, be prepared to stay out of their way.

Because of their intelligence, they are very lively, curious, affectionate, and entertaining. They are typically active and playful, even as adults. Siamese do not like to be ignored and always want to be the center of attention. They regard themselves as people instead of cats. One thing for sure, you will never be bored if you own a Siamese cat.
In fact, when you get a Siamese cat, it's almost like you're getting both a cat and a dog! As you contemplate names for you new and very special feline, there are several directions in which you can go:

1) You can choose a name based on the origin of your cat.

According to the Cat Fanciers' Association, Siamese cats are among the oldest recognized breeds of cats. The breed gets is name from Siam (modern day Thailand), from where they are believed to be descendants of the sacred temple cats. Because of this, Thai (or Asian) names are particularly relevant to Siamese cats, examples of which include Boon (merit), Noi (little) and Dara (celebrity).

2) You can choose a name based on the appearance of your cat.

Siamese cats are incredibly beautiful felines. Their lean bodies, attractive coloring and striking blue eyes often get much attention from human admirers. Although body types differ (depending on whether the cat is a traditional or modern expression of the breed), all Siamese cats are characterized by a pointed color scheme, with points that are usually seal point, blue point, chocolate point or lilac point. Based on these characteristics, names such as Hershey or Kit Kat (for a chocolate point), Lila (for a lilac point) or Frank (as a tribute to 'old blue eyes', Frank Sinatra) may appeal to you.

3) You can choose a name based on the personality of your cat.

The Siamese breed is known for being extroverted, sociable, active and very vocal. Of course, these traits are all generalizations. I've owned very calm and quiet Siamese cats, and (on the other end of the spectrum) I've also owned at least one "maniac" - and I use this term with much affection because she is my favorite, even though she wakes me up at ungodly hours of the morning! If you're going to take this route, names such as Leo (a tribute to the bold star sign or the larger feline), Casanova, Diva and Princess may fit the bill.

4) You can choose a name for your Siamese that would also work for any other cat.

In this instance, using your hobbies, famous people or other languages for inspiration would all be good options. In fact, as I write this article, I realize that most of my Siamese cat's names were pretty ordinary - Jenny, Kits, Lilly, Tyler. There's a theory that pet owners who choose "human" names do so because they consider their cats to be "one of the family". I definitely think there may be some truth to that.

No matter which direction you choose to go, if you use your creativity and imagination, you're sure to come up with a great list of names for your Siamese cat. If you have trouble narrowing it down to one, ask a friend or family member for their opinion, or - better yet - try calling some names out to your cat. Considering the fact that it's a Siamese, it will probably let you know which name is 'the one'!

Their history is a little sketchy as no one knows the exact place of their origin. It is believed that they came from Southeast Asia and are descendents of the scared temple cats of Siam (Thailand.)
The Siamese cat that you may remember from your childhood is not the Siamese cat that is bred today.
Today’s Siamese cat almost looks like it landed here from outer space. It is longer, slim, has an angular pointed face and large ears. The traditional Siamese (known as the applehead) had a round head, almond-shaped blue eyes and were of fairly sturdy build.

What happened?
Let’s go back in history for a bit and trace the origin of the Siamese from whence it became known to the western world up to modern times. Back in the late 1700’s in southern Russia, some pictures of a cat with Siamese markings was found by a man named Mr. Pallas, but it was not until the late 1800’s that anything could be documented.

In 1884 a British-Consul-General was given Siamese cat by the Siamese king as a parting gift. This was considered a great gift as the cat had been bred in the royal palace.

The Siamese cats at that time had kinks in their tails, which is a story I will tell you later.

This cat had kittens, which the then retired Consul-General gave to his sister, Mrs. Lillian Velvey.

She entered them in the 17th Crystal Palace Cat Show in England on October 1885. The cats were so extraordinary that they were photographed and quickly became a favorite and in 1902 England formed the first Siamese cat fancier’s club.

No one is certain when the first Siamese arrived here in the United States, but in April 1909 the first Siamese Cat Society of America was formed.

In the 1950’s and 60’s the Siamese cat was one of the most popular breeds around.

These wondrous cats appeared in many movies such as Bell, Book and Candle, That Darn Cat and Lady and the Tramp.

While the Siamese breed was gaining popularity here and in Great Britain very few people were breeding them in Siam (Thailand.) In the early 1960’s breeders were becoming bored with the “traditional Siamese” and decided to change the conformation of the breed to the longer, slimmer more exotic cat we see today.

This change caused a great deal of unhappiness among the breeders of the more traditional cats.

By 1986 the original Siamese breed was no longer shown in cat shows. Many breeders stopped raising them and it seemed the original Siamese cat was doomed.

However, there fortunately were some diehard breeders and several organizations were formed for the preservation of the breed. The organizations put on shows and gave prizes and today the future of the traditional Siamese cat is quite secure.

The traditional Siamese cat makes a wonderful pet. This cat loves human company. It is very affectionate, has an almost a “dog-like” intelligence and is very social.

Siamese cats are known “talkers” and will carry on a conversation with you. They get along with other cats, though they more than likely will be the dominant one. Siamese are active and playful and seem to be quieter at night than other cats.

This may be due to the fact that blue eyed cats do not have the night vision that other cats have.

All Siamese kittens are born either white or cream and will develop color on the “cooler parts’ of their body as they get older.

The resulting color pattern is due to a mutation in an enzyme that is heat sensitive. This mutation does not work on parts of the body that are warm, but colors the body parts that are cooler.

By the time a Siamese kitten is 4 weeks old it is possible to see what color the points are going to be. The original Siamese were almost dark brown to black, but with breeding and genetic changes the colors have changed as breeders have developed a Siamese-mix that offers different choices.

The Cat Fanciers Association only accepts the four original Siamese colors (dark brown, blue, chocolate and lilac points.)

The original Siamese had tails with “kinks” in them, this has since been bred out of the breed. There are several stories of how the Siamese cat originally got the kink in its tail and my favorite one is:

Once upon a time at one of the Siamese temples a beautiful royal goblet was missing. A search went on and the goblet could not be found. In an effort to help in the search, a young cat and his wife went into the jungle to search on their own. A luck would have it, they found the royal goblet, but had no way to carry it back to the temple. A decision was made by the couple that the young wife would stay and guard the goblet while her husband went back to the temple to tell the priest.

The little cat made herself a nest and wrapped her tail around the stem of the goblet to keep it safe. When her husband and the priest returned four days later, they not only found the cat with her tail around the goblet, but they also found five beautiful kittens.

The royal cat was so conscientious about the safety of the goblet that as a reminder of her loyalty, a permanent kink developed in the end of her tail and believe it or not, all five kittens had one, too.

As the popularity of the “traditional” Siamese grows and it finds its way back into the main show ring maybe, just maybe the “kink” will come back, too.

Lets start with the 'good' facts about Siamese.
Siamese can be loyal, obsessively loyal. Siamese are smart, although there is the occasional exception (or maybe it's just pretending) Siamese cats are often talkative; they seem to understand you even if they choose to be a little deaf at times. Siamese kittens and cats have character, no bland and boring snooze cat here. Siamese cats give and expect to receive. All the time.

A Siamese cat has an easy care coat so no long and expensive visits to the beauty parlor required. Others even appreciate having their nails done - a 'caticure of sorts'. You can even buy nail covers in some fun designer colors, great for the indoor Siamese and to protect your furniture.

Siamese are beautiful and a pleasure to watch. Certainly better than watching TV. This cat knows it is special and is happy to bestow some of its' special aura on a special person. Your Siamese will love to keep you company. And keep you company. And again. The Siamese kitten or cat loves heat more than most cats, preferably in your bed if they get half a chance.

Are you ready? The 'bad' Siamese Cat Facts
That Siamese loyalty may be more dog-like than a cat. Bad? If you are the kind of person who hates to be smothered, you might be better off with a less demonstrative bred. Siamese cats expect to help you write your great American novel (Chapter 1: kjf*&^%#^9ojn3o9iunf93). Don't expect to hide in the bathroom for a bit of peace and quiet - it's their favorite room, and anyway they refuse to be shut out. Period.

Siamese are clever. Don't expect your bright Siamese to wait for you to come home before being naughty. They need to keep that brain amused and if you don't leave them copious reading material or some good films about bird watching, your Siamese (even a Siamese kitten) will find amusement wherever they can. I have seen some amazing flower arrangements and indoor gardens created by a bored Siamese. Be prepared to spend time playing.

I have known many quiet Siamese, but when they are noisy, boy are they noisy! If you bring home a talkative version, meditation and mind over matter lessons might be in order.

When they are bad, they are very bad
The 'ugly' side of Siamese cats? Facts can be deceiving and no single Siamese is all bad - although some come close.

A jealous cat? Yes, so best not tease your Siamese or you'll be at the receiving end of sulks for as long as your cat chooses to punish you. To speed the forgiveness process little hors d'oeuvres might eventually be accepted. And please, never fuss over another cat when your Siamese is within earshot. Long after you have forgotten all about it an ambush of historic proportions will be mounted on the surprised rival for your affections.

So as not to embarrass my 'butter would not melt' writing companion I will stop here but I would be remiss if I did not briefly mention dodgy litter habits, a certain sneakiness, and a tendency towards Attilla the Hun-type dominance.

Please don't let these little details put you off. If this Siamese cat information hasn't put you off, then you may be one of the suitable and special people for whom a Siamese is a welcome addition to the family. I certainly couldn't be without one.
