The decision of this case was premature and was decided by U.S. District Judge Susan Illston, that George Hotz breached the Digital Millennium Copyrights Act by publishing or distributing the hack to the public. Not only that, but Sony is also attempting to sue the entire team, known as the Fail0verflow hacking team, for the same issue. For now, things are not looking too good for George Hotz as it did for the Apple scene, but more news on that as it comes in.

Verizon signed a contract with Apple several months ago allowing Verizon to distribute a CDMA version of the iPhone 4. Preorders took place for existing Verizon customers and were already shipping three days ago. Official release of the Verizon iPhone 4 is today and interesting enough, the iPhone 4 broke Verizons' first day release record of any phone's first day release in sales. However, the iPhone 4 for Verizon is also facing the antenna issues as it did for AT&T. Furthermore, it is imminent that Verizon is competing with AT&T because of their exclusive unlimited data plan for all smartphones, including the iPhone. Will they beat AT&T once and for all? More news to come...

Another Firmware 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak Released, but for Windows users this time!

The Chronic Dev Team developed the program, Greenpois0n (the last "o" is a zero), to enable iDevice users to successfully jailbreak their devices with an untether. As mentioned before, untethered jailbreaks differ from semi tethered and tethered jailbreaks for a number of reasons.
A tethered jailbreak means that after you successfully jailbreak an iDevice, the device is not capable of booting up after a restart or force shut down because of the lack of resources to be recognized after powering off. Basically, any one who has performed a tethered jailbreak shouldn't turn off or restart their iDevice because they wouldn't be able to turn it back on, with the exception of the assistance of booting tethered through the same program, which requires a PC or Mac.

A semi tethered jailbreak is unique because it shares the same qualities as a tethered and untethered. If a semi tethered jailbreak is performed, the iDevice is able to be booted back up but with limited capabilities. Unless a modification of theme based hacks are done, an iDevice should boot up without any issues. On another note, applications such as Cydia, Safari and a few others are inaccessible. If the device is unable to boot up after a semi tethered jailbreak, then the assistance of the program that was used to jailbreak it is required, as mentioned in the paragraph above.

An untethered jailbreak is what most iDevice users look forward to in the jailbreaking community. Why? Because after a successful untethered jailbreak, iDevice users are able to power off their devices and power the device back on without any issues what so ever. One jailbreak and you are good to go, unless of course the user decides to upgrade the firmware. Upgraded firmware usually results in the loss of a jailbreak and the need to jailbreak the device again because of the changed exploits from the previous firmware.

So back to the topic about the 4.2.1 untethered jailbreak for Windows users. The Greenpois0n RC5 series was released on February the 10th. This was a long awaited program for especially Windows users because the previous untethered jailbreak for 4.2.1 was the Redsn0w 0.9.7 series, which was specifically for Mac users only. The jailbreak is on the main site at Greenpois0n and will be available for Linux users in the near future. As for now, hooray for Windows users!

Hacking and Modding of handheld devices

As soon as any handheld device is released by any corporation, such as Microsoft, Apple, Samsung, Sony, etc., developers are constantly trying to access the root of the device in order to run custom firmware, modify system files, and more. I find it very interesting that after these developers succeed, the corporations are frequently trying to sue them because of the effect of the hack. The hacks may lead to copyright issues and pirating of software released by either the corporation themselves, or by various third-party companies.

To be more specific, Apple's iDevices, aka the iPhone, iPod touch, iPad, etc., has always been vulnerable to developers. The fact that the processors in these devices, i.e. a-4 processor, are so fast and efficient, the application community can be from 3-D games, to a real-time GPS, makes these devices so unique. Of course, nothing in this world is free, so a good number of applications (apps) provided through Apple's Appstore costs money and usually range from anywhere from 99 cents, to nearly 100 dollars! [maybe more]

George Hotz is a well-known developer and hacker for Apple's devices, and continues to hack, although he has been sued and threatened countless times. Not only Apple's devices, he is responsible for the latest Playstation 3 hacks! He is currently going on trial for that particular incident and intends to win without any hesitations.

The term for successfully being able to access the root of an iDevices' software, is "jailbreaking." This, at one point, was illegal and not encouraged. However, in the last quarter of 2010, it was ruled that jailbreaking is legal and may be done to any Apply iDevice as long as piracy or anything similar was being done.

More content will be provided on this hot issue...

test

test

Unpopular blogs, are only unpopular in traffic

Is your blog not getting as much attention as you would like? Do not be discouraged, it is not your fault at all. Unpopular blogs are only unpopular in traffic! All you need to do, is work for your quantities in viewers.

Traffic

This is the most important thing towards your site's success. Why? Traffic in your site indicates how interesting, and how well you are distributing your site's URL to the public. To distribute your site to the public in the easiest manner, try going to other blogs or boards that contain a thread in need of people's sites. Sites such as the ones on the left hand site of my blog help a ton, and visiting people's sites on those boards aid tremendously in your site's traffic. I know this because the people posting their sites on the boards/forums are in need of traffic amongst their sites, like you. In the end, if you subscribe to their feed via anything, and/or comment one of their posts, the chances of them being directed back to your site is very high. In doing so, your blog will be read. One person (other than you), reading your posts, is one step up to the popularity of your blog.

A Sense of Confidence

When creating, and maintaining your blog, do not be discouraged by the low numbers in your blog, whether it be comments, subscribers to your feed, or traffic. Always be somewhat, if not, really confident in your blog. Only you may keep your own blog from failing miserably. I am not saying that anybody's blog is miserable, but if you stay active in your blog, I guarantee there will be an opportunity out there for you, as a blogger, to keep that smile on your face everytime you write. Staying up to date, and having fun with your blog could become difficult to do, but once you get that comment or that subscriber, you will be satisfied. Keep up the work, and never be withdrawed from your dark blogs. Everybody as been there, and you are not alone. Pagerank is almost insignificant, and should not control your feelings for your blog, because that is not their job, it is only yours. Pagerank is almost like a resource for other advertisers to look at. Subside the fact that there is a 0, 1, or 2, or whatever number there is, because it is insignificant. Keep blogging, and in the longrun, there is only room for the rank to go up.

Your road to popularity

Even if you do not mind popularity, all of these tips are great for your blog to receive some views. Striving for a better blog, and perserverance for success can only get you there. The blogging world is like a huge road. There will be stopsigns, streetlights, and yield signs, etc, but acceleration is always present, no matter what signs there are. Staying straight with your blog, and commencing your goals with integrity, there is no time to look back, only forward. Therefore, success is just around the corner, all your have to do make the turn.

Disclosure Policy

This policy is valid from 28 March 2008

This blog is a personal blog written and edited by me. If you purchase a Nintendo Wifi USB Connector at any store (like Wal-Mart, Target, Gamestop, etc.), be prepared to get a refund. You might get lucky with it, who knows, but do not count on it working for you.

This device is very convenient, and simple to install. It only takes about 5 minutes to get the software, and device reading properly. Some people even have trouble getting the Connector to even be recognized by the PC! I know it is only $20-$30 or so. Don't get me wrong, it's a great deal if you only need Wifi on a Wii. But, if it does turn out ineffective (which in most cases, is...), then don't hesitate to purchase a wireless g router. They are only about $40, and work in my opinion, more than 80% of the time. I've looked on a lot of blogs, discussing the defects of the Connector, and I had experienced it as well, and it is not worth the trouble. There is the firewall that could interfere with the connection, connection settings, your computer's internet settings, you IP, range within the Wii and the Connector, and lots more.

I would say, just buy the wireless router. The wireless router (most of them at least), are so easy to install and hook up, and have security (WPS) in my case. I have a Belkin Wireless G Router ver. 8000, and it is an awesome product for the Wii, and your PC. I have used it for about a month now, and no problems what so ever. Please, do not hesitate to try this product out. The security works outstandingly, not the best (because it is not the most expensive wireless router), but still is satisfying to have. If you have any questions about setting a Wifi connection in your household, or in your business, give me a comment, and I'll try to help you out.

Firewall/Antispyware/Antispam/Antivirus... etc

What I have learned when purchasing Antivirus, Firewall, and such, I've noticed that the best way to go, is to get something free off of the internet. I am currently using Windows Live OneCare, and it is fantastic! You are able to try out the 90 day, risk free trial, and if you do not view it as a personal-use software, you may uninstall it at anytime. It includes everything: Virus and spyware monitoring, firewall, phishing filter, monitors Microsoft PC's extremely well, and also guides you through a wireless internet connection + security. Might as well give it a try if you are in the process of looking for a product.

If you are not looking to purchase any products, try AVG Free, Avast, and Windows Defender! These are all great products to protect you PC from any viruses and such. And remember, they are all FREE, and ready to use once you have downloaded it.

A con for purchasing a product, is that once it has expired, the notification pops up numerous amounts of times, distracting you from surfing your PC. Plus, there is sometimes subscription fees for such products. Although their protection is off the charts, they are sometimes expensive, and expire as well. These "Paying" products are great if you have the money to spend. In my opinion, it is not worth the trouble, and plus, they take up too much space. I had a product (not going to specify for personal reasons) that got extremely annoying once the subscription was up, and I was so limited in protection. Another thing, make sure you purchase there products earlier in the year, so you get the full amount of time available. You do not want to purchase Norton, for example, in October. Then you basically only have 3 months to utilize the product. What a waste!

Well, hope I helped with any issues out there, and please comment this post if you have any questions, or things I need to add, and I'll be sure to review it, and consider for future reference.

Gas Prices Not High Enough?

Okay, for those of you people that complain about gas prices these days, please, do not panic now, because guess what?: Gas prices will not drop dramatically all of a sudden. Be thankful for what it is now, because the only direction it is going, is up. We are paying such little for guess, being a capitilist governement. Gas could be cheaper for Americans, but of course, the companies can make profit on their goods, being legal in the U.S. Anyway, the U.S. has not experienced "High Gas Prices". As of 2005, Amsterdam, Netherlands went through a whopping $6.48 USD! That being 3 years ago, what could it possibly be currently? As a result, there are many crimes, involving gasoline every year in the U.S., because of these prices.

However, there have been common cases in the late 1900s, of people striking against their city about the gasoline prices. Some resulted in drops of a couple of cents! By not going by car in the summer, and striking did just that! But even with these strikes today, not much could be saved. And the amount the U.S. intakes from gas prices, one gas station could not possibly lower their price just because of a strike. Sorry, but the chances of lowered prices, is almost inanimate. Fortunately, we have yet to live during the spiking gas prices.

Next time you go to your local gas station, the numbers on that sign will only go up. Please, be less frustrated, because later on, you will desire that price, just like in the early 1970s, when gasoline was only a few cents to the gallon. But look only forward, because we live in the future, and the future only gets rougher, balanced with the new innovations that are composed as time progresses. We only have room to hope for a new source of energy for our vehicles, one that is not as much demanded from everywhere around the globe. Only then, may we see the drop in the prices on the board.

*EDIT* There is this post on a site, and it says if you subscribe to the feed (all directions explained at site), and comment the post (most recent), you have a chance to win $10 via PayPal! I really can't wait until the sun starts to ascend from that horizon. We will start to experience that 30 Degree+ increase. Even though it gets extremely hot down here in Texas, I imperceptibly miss the heat, because swimming was too much fun. When it is cold, outdoors is unpleasant to experience (even though Texas does not get too cold), for lots of people for the most part. Swimming always made the heat better than it was. Any style of swimming really does burn many calories. Anywhere from 35-130 calories are burned from swimming every 10 minutes! When you think about it, sports can really get you into shape. Even if you do not notice the difference, after a certain time interval is up, go check out your weight. You will notice the difference, and confidence is also upgraded because of sports. To learn more about estimated calories burned from activities, visit Calories Burned Chart By Activity. You will be surprised at the various results us people experience through practically any activity! I hope everyone has a great spring season, and be safe!

What I've Learned to do in blogging

This blog, being a new blog, I've noticed that to maintain a stable blog site, with moderate traffic, is to update as soon as you can, stay somewhat motivated, and love what you are writing about. When all of these things are done, then you may pursue an "okay" blog. What I'm trying to accomplish, is to keep this blog running, even though there is little to no traffic right now, to stay motivated in it, and then I will be able to start earning money from this blog.

Staying motivated in your blog

From my recent experience to the blogging world, I've noticed that without any motivation, there is no possible way to keep your blog up and running. To get traffic flowing through you blog, you must be "moved" by something. It may be the thought of a "personal journal" to keep you blogging, or you may enjoy it to keep your ideas organized, or for most people like me: I want to earn some cash. Earning cash from your blog is probably the best way to keep you with your site. Right now, I am still in the process of figuring all of this out, and zeroandup has helped me with just that. I am getting tons of tips from him, and hope to be able to do just that when my site gets up and running. I will buy a domain soon, when I am sure I can handle the work load (even though it is not much), I have to make sure I can keep it going before I just go out there and buy a domain subscription.

What should I do now?

As a new/recent blogger, I am continuing to learn how to interest other bloggers. This is a key element towards preparing your own blog. Even though you might not want to write about something, if it interests one other soul out there in this world, DO IT. It will totally be worth it. Even though not much traffic has flowed through here, and I am not even on the Google results page, I managed to receive a comment on one of my posts. That is awesome, considering I don't even show up on a search engine. As I continue to comment other bloggers, they may comment me back, and their friends might comment me as well. If this ought to happen, imagine the possibilities. I could start doing this for a temporary living.

Well, as blogging continues to interest me, more subjects could cross my mind. If you have any comments or tips I should know about, Please, feel free to contact me. Either comment this blog, or even better, subscribe to my feed, and I will be notified with your sent email request. Thanks!

Weather...

Why is weather so unpredictable. I know our technology now isn't quite at its peak right now (meteorology-wise), but it kind of angers me. At first, we had a 4-5 inch snow storm warning, which made me so delighted (considering I live in Texas). There was also a 100% chance of precipitation, and it was around freezing at this point. About 30 minutes later, there was a 30%-40% chance of precipitation, with 1/2 - 1 inch of snow. Just in 30 minutes! We had previously received a good amount of snow that afternoon, and I could not believe my eyes. The snow was starting to accumulate on the grass, and some sleet on the roads. Despite the danger on the roads, the thought of 4-5 inches of snow made me so excited. Well, it was too good to be true I guess, considering the record low in Texas was 10 degrees Fahrenheit in the early 1900s (1930s to be exact). Snow was what I wanted, but I guess it's fine, since we have more opportunities later on this year.

IJJI

I have to say, one of my favorite game sites, is IJJI. IJJI is a free online game site, where you download a game, from the site, and get to play these games for free. That's right, free. G coins cost $5 for 50, $10 for 100, $20 for 200, $30 for 300, and so on. The Action/RPG games support Direct X, and the system requirements are pretty standard. Broadband internet is recommended, and Microsoft XP and higher is also recommended for the best game play. I hope you guys look into this more, and thank me if you enjoy the site. The site supports payments such as credit cards, PayPal, and more. But remember, you don't have to pay if you don't want to. If you are interested in getting free money to purchase G coins, please look over my previous entries and find the survey one. There, you can discover a way to get these G coins for free basically. Or, you can fill out the surveys hosted by the site, linked to another site, to get free G coins. About 5-6 free G coins every so often (about 5 days until another survey is released). So keep your eyes peeled out for those surveys, for you will not regret it!

Six Simple Machines

*Note* These machines are used to construct a Rube-Goldberg Apparatus

TYPES AND EXAMPLES

Lever- (e-brake)

Wheel and Axel (wagon)

Inclined Plane (ramp)

Wedge (saw)

Screw (screw)

Pulley (crane)

Lever: an item used with a fulcrum or pivot to increase the force given to another object. There are 3 different classes of levers. The first class consists of a fulcrum in the center of the input effort, and the output load. Examples of a first class lever: can opener, bottle opener, and pliers. The second class lever consists of the input effort located on the opposite end of the fulcrum, with the output load in the center. Examples of a second class lever: wheel barrel, wrench, and springboard. The third class lever consists of the input effort is larger than the output load, and the resistance moves faster than the effort. Examples of a third class lever: hockey stick, fishing rod, and an arm.

Wheel & Axle: is basically an axel that turns a wheel, or a wheel that turns an axle. It is also a single forced machine. The wheel and axle is sometimes considered to be a lever, in which the wheel’s radius is the arm’s effort, and the radius of the axle is the resistance arm. There are two ways to calculate mechanical advantage: Ideal mechanical, and actual mechanical.
Ideal Mechanical Advantage
M.A. (Mechanical Advantage) = Radius of wheel
Radius of axle

Actual Mechanical Advantage
A.M.A. (Actual Mechanical Advantage) = R
Eactual

Inclined Plane: is a surface that is flat, whose vertexes are at different altitudes. Energy required to move the object is lowered by raising the area that is required to travel.

Wedge: is identified as a portable inclined plane, maneuvered to split two items, or parts of an item, raise an item, or keep an item stationary, by applying force to the wide end, which the wedge transforms into a force perpendicular to the inclined areas.

Screw: a screw, is a spiral-like inclined plane, which can change a rotational force, or torque, to a linear force. What determines mechanical advantage is the amount of threading.
M.A.= Circumference of shaft of the screw
Distance between threads

Pulley: consists of a wheel with a groove in the center of 2 flanges around the circumference, the groove locating the cable, belt, etc. The pulleys help change the direction in which the force is applied.

Earning easy money through surveys and friend referrals!

I know this site called AW Surveys, and they are great! You sign up easily, with no serious information given out. When you are finally logged in, you automatically earn the month's surveys. When the surveys are all done, you have $27 in total already. That money can go straight into your PayPal account, and from there, you may purchase items from the majority of the online stores. In addition, video game sites such as : IJJI/World of Warcraft, and more accept PayPal credit. What is the catch? There is no catch! These survey sites pay you to fill out these easy surveys, that's it. If you want to learn more, go to the site http://www.awsurveys.com and if you want to help me get $1.25 for each referral, go to

http://www.AWSurveys.com/HomeMain.cfm?RefID=yongjinee

It would be greatly appreciated if you would use me as a referral. Sandford case (1847)
toward the American Civil War

Civil War
Other Names: War between the States, War of Rebellion, War of Secession, War of Southern Independence

The Scott v. Sandford case advocated the United States independent from the rest of the world not only because slavery was such an issue, slavery had been a culture that had originated from a majority of the globe. The word, slavery, was a discord through all aspects of American society, whether it be political, or moral. The case itself was not the only issue of slavery in the 19th century, it was a setback that contributed to the split of America, and subsequently the American Civil War.
Dred Scott v. Sandford was concluded when Roger B. Taney ruled with reasoning stating that: “… [freedom is] depended on the law of the State where they resided when they brought suit.” In other words, Scott should have brought suit in a free state to have kept the case from dying. Therefore, Taney ruled that the case pertained to lack of jurisdiction, and was returned to the lower court to dismiss the case. For most southerners, the case was gratifying, and the northerners were at their outmost peak of rage because of this. The decision also aided the Republican Party’s views, therefore Abraham Lincoln became president. Considering Lincoln becoming president, most of the south seceded from the Union.
Foundation, on which the disassociation between the Unionists and the Confederates, was based on the indefinite issues that Americans had experienced: slavery, economy, and morals. Prior to the Civil War only an insignificant amount of Northern whites supported abolition. Forevermore, fewer believed that black men and white and women could ever be socially interactive. Despite the perspective that was taken upon prior to the war, by 1861, many white Southerners came to know that abolitionists were the primary reason of why the war had started. Scott v. Sandford, being a case pertaining to slavery, had contributed much to the fact that Northerners and Southerners were even further apart in their moral views.
Abolitionists were well educated in life, and they usually came from the middle to upper classes of society. Most abolitionists were drawn to their desires by the Second Great Awakening that began in the early 1800s, and continued to do its work for about 40 years. Inspiring many abolitionists, the Second Great Awakening was evangelistically-based, and was a part of American Protestantism, which included these major denominations: Methodists, Baptists, and Presbyterians. All of these denominations involved in the Great Awakening covered the majority of the United States’ population. Because of this, the Second Great Awakening was very successful, and drew about many that were interested in the reformation of others because of their past revival experiences, and personal “rebirth”.
As time progressed, abolitionists declared slavery being a sin against God. This was a colossal step into abolitionism, and took a side on the slavery issue. Abolitionists thought of slavery as murder, and murder is obviously unmoral to the Christian’s aspect. They (abolitionists) even announced slaver-owners not doing their duty to becoming “good” Christians, and that God would “punish” them with damnation for all eternity. Some even thought of slavery as a national sin, and that it (slavery) would threaten the future of the United States.
Why did most Northerners revise their thoughts on slavery? This was much due to the act of planting many new slave acts, such as the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. This act literally altered Northerners’ minds, and they had actually thought of slaves as human beings. Runaway slaves from the South had sympathized many individuals in the north, bringing many like Frederick Douglass, the author of his autobiography North Star, and William Lloyd Garrison, who wrote the abolition journal The Liberator in Boston. Both the abolitionists and the fugitives that resided in the north “allied” with each other, and attempted to refigure the [negative] public opinion on slavery, and the nature of it. Not only that, the abolitionists also called for criticizing the Southern society, and explained in reason how the effects of slavery unfavorably controlled their environment. Northerners were opposing southerners named “fire-eaters”. Their (fire-eaters) duty was to compromise a plan to secede from the Union as soon as possible so that they (southerners) may live their lifestyle without the complaint of a northerner. Once Alabama was a state in 1819, the United States had to discover a way to balance the rest of the territory categorized into slave states, and non slave states. The process would be very tedious, and trying to configure, with both sides agreeing with each other would take way too long for anyone to wait for. Previously, the Missouri Compromise was proposed to settle this argument, but it was later rebelled against, bringing the Kansas-Nebraska Act which appealed it. The Kansas-Nebraska Act was also later called “popular sovereignty”, which states that slavery should be decided on by the people that live in the area. Obviously, with the commotion going on between the country, popular sovereignty would not totally settle the issue of slavery permanently, so the United States passed the Compromise of 1850. This compromise temporarily settled the slavery issue, until the south rebelled against the north once again. The north also did not take the issue of the secession as seriously as they should have. Secession was heard from numerous times from the south, but they never did take action until 1861. When the south finally seceded from the Union, the north was not surprised at all, but wiser choices could have been prompted to prevent such a negative aspect to America.
Opposed to the northerners, southerners thought of slavery as a given right to mankind, and that it was granted to them for successful opportunities. Slavery to Southerners was just an advancement that maintained their economy, and their relationship status with Europe (England and France in particular). The south’s main part of their economy was their production of crops, the main crop being cotton. With this healthy alliance, the United States would be at an advantage in the world, being “allied” with other powerful nations. Southerners thought that if a Republican, such as Abraham Lincoln, were to take office in the United States, that antislavery would become encouraged, and that they would have to give up their slaves for that. Some other causes of their disaffection were from the idea that Northerners were “reducing” to economic vassalage by the use of commercial and industrial interests of the Northeast. Industrial and commercial meaning little to no slave population for the South. How could the South sacrifice such a lifestyle preference because of “unexplained” abuse from the North? Slavery was the issue that had existed even before economical distresses that had occurred in America. Slavery linked to economy for the South, and the thought that the North criticizing slavery truly put the South into antagonism. Lincoln once said to a southern leader: “… while we think it [slavery] is wrong and ought to be restricted… It certainly is the only substantial difference between us.” Southerners were confused and enraged by the fact that Northerners did not see the abolishing of slavery as a substantial action. The south had remained as part of the Union this whole time, because not many individuals had stood up as an abolitionist many times before. In 1857, the Chief Justice of the United States declared slavery being a privileged duty under the U.S. Constitution. Along with this, it had been announced that the Federal government had no such power to regulate institution, but could guard and protect the owner with his rights. Prior to Lincoln’s presidency, slavery wasn’t such an opposed subject of matter. Buchanan, and another man by the name of Calhoun, had not done much with slavery, and tried to avoid the word being said.
Not everything turned out horrific after the Dred Scott case. After the Dred Scott decision, a new book was released called Uncle Tom’s Cabin, by Harriet Beecher Stowe. This emotionally impacted both abolitionists and Southerners, and critiqued the themes of slavery from runaway slaves. Stowe was an exceptionally great writer of romance novels. Her brother, Lyman Beecher, took the role of a well-known preacher and a abolitionist. Harriet used her themes of romance with the backup of slavery, and its role on her perspective. The book became extremely popular, and was in the status of a best-selling novel of the antebellum era. Parts of Uncle Tom’s Cabin were even added to Northern newspapers, and were performed in theaters and streets in the North. Along with that, it (Uncle Tom’s Cabin) was even distributed into some public schools. The novel had really configured with the opinions of the Northerners in the 1850s, leading closer and closer onward for the Civil War to occur.
Although there were less encounters of racism in the north, racism still existed. A majority of the northerners thought of slavery as a simple subject that existed, and that as long as there was slavery, there would be less slaves they (northerners) would have to “deal” with. These non-abolitionists were ridiculed by their rivals, especially if they resided in the same part of the United States. An example of a conflict between non-abolitionists and abolitionists is the John Brown’s Raid. This event occurred on October 16, 1859, and it involved the outlaw- John Brown. He, and a group of people marched to Harper’s Ferry, Virginia (now present-day West Virginia) and freed slaves located there. He was later arrested and convicted causing thousands of northerners to hail him as a martyr. The south was feared by this course of action, and was concerned of armed convention in their territory by northern abolitionists. The South Carolina legislature decided to bring upon a special convention, which they would socialize on whether they should secede on December 17, 1860. At this point in time, the south had already prepared to secede. Three days later, South Carolina created an ordinance that South Carolina, and other southern states were dissolving from the Union. The Confederacy was born.
The north refused the fact that the south had. Even President Lincoln could not accept the fact that this had happened. As for the southerners, they were already in the process of creating a new government, and southern leaders believed that their decision on seceding from the Union was lawful, and took that to their advantage. Southerners, thinking that seceding from the Union would solve all their problems over slavery, it actually caused greater tension between the two regions. When the south seceded, the north could not stand the fact that slavery was in between their anger. So either it would be making a new compromise to bargain with the south’s needs (which had not worked permanently for years), or fight for their belief in slavery, and regain the south through force. Through thought and process, the north had made its choice to settle until due time. The north prepared their soldiers and navy for war, and so did the south. On April 12, 1861, the American Civil War was officially called upon.
Scott v. Sandford, occurring 14 years before the actual war that was sought to happen, was a long-range cause of the Civil War. Arguing for which side was morally correct took a total of 18 years to settle. After the war was over, Abraham Lincoln passed the Ten Percent Plan, which was created to easily admit the south to re-enter the Union from which it came. The Ten Percent Plan said that 10% of voters must pledge an oath toward the Union and acknowledge the emancipation of the slaves. This was later repealed by the Wade-Davis Bill, which was proposed by the Radical Republicans. They feared that since the 10 Percent Plan was so lenient, it would allow the south to enslave the recently freed African Americans once again. This called for 50% of the states’ voters to pledge allegiance, and also demanded greater safeguards for emancipation that of the old 10 Percent Plan. Despite the “safer” plan, Lincoln vetoed the bill by letting the bill “sit”. The 10 Percent Plan remained in effect because of this, and angered the Radical Republicans.
How did the Dred Scott decision help cause the Civil War? After the decision, many abolitionists were angered, and took action. Upon doing so, there were conflicts between the north, and the south, which created various types of arguments, mostly slavery. In the cases potential, it also raised the spirits of most northerners, giving them just as much patriotic views as the south did of their slaves. In the loss of the Dred Scott case, the north found its way through fighting in the Civil War, and winning it at the Battle of Palmeto Ranch in 1865 where slaves gained their freedom.
