A long trip from L.A. to Sandpoint. It was late and I was exhausted. But as I was unpacking, my phone rang. It was Y, a super-smart woman who has been in my world for almost forty-three years. She was extremely agitated.
“All of this moaning and groaning about racism on the anniversary of Martin Luther King’s March on Washington is sickening,” she said. “Just disgusting. Start with Obama. He DARES to get up where Martin Luther King stood and talk about racism. Martin Luther King was shot at, had his house dynamited while he was inside with his wife and children, was savagely beaten, was stabbed, put in horrible prison cells over and over again. He lived in an era when being black was a real burden and when trying to get your rights as a black man could cost your life. It did cost him his life.

It used to be a lot simpler. As E.C. Bentley deftly summarized it in 1905:
"Geography is about maps. But Biography is about chaps."
But that was then, and now Biography is also about maps. For example, have you ever thought it would be way cooler to have been born in colonial Kenya?
Whoa, that sounds like crazy Birther talk; don't go there! But Breitbart News did, and it turns out that the earliest recorded example of Birtherism is from the president's own literary agent, way back in 1991, in the official bio of her exciting new author:
"Barack Obama, the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review, was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii."
So the lunatic theory that Barack Obama doesn't meet the minimum eligibility requirements to be president of the United States was first advanced by Barack Obama's official representative. Where did she get that wacky idea from? "This was nothing more than a fact-checking error by me," says Obama's literary agent, Miriam Goderich, a "fact" that went so un-"checked" that it stayed up on her agency's website in the official biography of her by-then-famous client up until 2007:
"He was born in Kenya to an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister."
And then in April 2007, someone belatedly decided to "check" the 16-year-old "fact" and revised the biography, a few weeks into the now non-Kenyan's campaign for the presidency. Fancy that!
When it comes to conspiracies, I'm an Occam's Razor man. The more obvious explanation of the variable first line in the eternally shifting sands of Obama's biography is that, rather than pretending to have been born in Hawaii, he's spent much of his life pretending to have been born in Kenya.
After all, if your first book is an exploration of racial identity and has the working title "Journeys In Black And White," being born in Hawaii doesn't really help. It's entirely irrelevant to the twin pillars of contemporary black grievance – American slavery and European imperialism. To 99.99 percent of people, Hawaii is a luxury vacation destination and nothing else.
Whereas Kenya puts you at the heart of what, in an otherwise notably orderly decolonization process by the British, was a bitter and violent struggle against the white man's rule. Cool! The composite chicks dig it, and the literary agents.
And where's the harm in it? Everybody does it – at least in the circles in which Obama hangs. At Harvard Law School, where young Barack was "the first African-American president of The Harvard Law Review," there's no end of famous firsts: As The Fordham Law Review reported, "Harvard Law School hired its first woman of color, Elizabeth Warren, in 1995." There is no evidence that Mrs. Warren, now the Democrats' Senate candidate, is anything other than 100 percent white. She walks like a white, quacks like a white, looks whiter than white. She's the whitest white since Frosty the Snowman fell in a vat of Wite-Out. But she "self-identified" as Cherokee, so that makes her a "woman of color." Why, back in 1984 she submitted some of her favorite dishes to the "Pow Wow Chow" cookbook, a "compilation of recipes passed down through the Five Tribes families."
The recipes from "Elizabeth Warren – Cherokee" include a crab dish with tomato mayonnaise. Mrs. Warren's fictional Cherokee ancestors in Oklahoma were renowned for their ability to spear the fast-moving Oklahoma crab. It's in the state song: "Ooooooklahoma! Where the crabs come sweepin' down the plain." But then the white man came, and now the Oklahoma crab is extinct, and at the Cherokee clambakes they have to make do with Mrs. Warren's traditional Five Tribes recipe for Cherokee Lime Pie.
A delegation of college students visited the White House last week, and Vice President Biden told them: "You're an incredible generation. And that's not hyperbole, either. Your generation and the 9/11 generation before you are the most incredible group of Americans we have ever, ever, ever produced."
Ever ever ever ever! Even in a world where everyone's incredible, some things ought to be truly incredible. Yet Harvard Law School touted Elizabeth "Dances with Crabs" Warren as their "first woman of color" – and nobody laughed. Because, if you laugh, chances are you'll be tied up in sensitivity-training hell for the next six weeks. Because in an ever-more incredible America being an all-white "woman of color" is entirely credible.
Entering these murky waters, swimming through it like a crab in Mrs. Warren's tomato mayo, Barack Obama refined his own identity with a finesse that Harvard Law's first cigar-store Indian lacked. In 1984, when "Elizabeth Warren – Cherokee" was cooking up a storm, the young Obama was still trying to figure out his name: He'd been "Barry" up till then. According to his recently discovered New York girlfriend, back when she dated him he was "BAR-ack," emphasis on the first syllable, as in barracks, which is how his dad was known back in Kenya. Later in the Eighties, he decided "BAR-ack" was too British, and modified it to "Ba-RACK". Some years ago, on Fox News, Bob Beckel criticized me for mispronouncing Barack Obama's name. My mistake.
All I did was say it the way they've always said it back in Kenya. But Obama himself didn't finally decide what his name was or how to say it until he was pushing 30. In the shifting sands of identity, he picked his crabs carefully.
"I suppose he'd had the name ready for a long time, even then," says Nick Carraway in "The Great Gatsby." "His parents were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people – his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all. The truth was that Jay Gatsby of West Egg, Long Island, sprang from his Platonic conception of himself... . So he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen-year-old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end."
In a post-modern America, the things that Gatsby attempted to fake – an elite schooling – Obama actually had; the things that Gatsby attempted to obscure – the impoverished roots – merely add to Obama's luster. Gatsby claimed to have gone to Oxford, but nobody knew him there because he never went; Obama had a million bucks' worth of elite education at Occidental, Columbia and Harvard Law, and still nobody knew him ("Fox News contacted some 400 of his classmates and found no one who remembered him"). In that sense, Obama out-Gatsbys Gatsby: His "shiftless and unsuccessful" relatives – the deportation-dodging aunt on public housing in Boston, the DWI undocumented uncle, the $12-a-year brother back in Nairobi – are useful props in his story, the ever more vivid bit-players as the central character swims ever more out of focus, but they don't seem to know him either. The more autobiographies he writes, the less anybody knows.
Like Gatsby presiding over his wild, lavish parties, Obama is aloof and remote: let everyone else rave deliriously; he just has to be. He is, in his way, the apotheosis of the Age of American Incredibility. When just being who you are anyway is an incredible accomplishment, Obama managed to run and win on biography almost entirely unmoored from life. But then, like Gatsby, he knew a thing or two about "the unreality of reality."

Rand Paul the Libertarian endorses Thomas Massie to push Ron's Agenda

I have a very serious question. Are people really paying attention to what Rand Paul says and does? Or are they blind loyalists? In a recent article I read Rand Paul Endorsed Thomas Massie in the 4^th district congressional race for congress here in Kentucky.

Here is what he has said: “I don’t like anyone telling me how to vote.” Okay, then why endorse? What would your endorsement mean if you weren’t trying to influence how people vote? You don’t vote in this district, so what is your endorsement for then?

(Massie spouts how hard he worked hard for Rand Paul and gave him a nice fat check .Is Massie calling in a favor or is Rand just being kind and why?)

Could it be because of this?

Rand said this at a TEA Party meeting during his senate race here in Kentucky:

"I know that third party candidates can’t win in KY. Although I’m a Libertarian at heart, I’ve decided to run as a Republican. Once I win I’ll be able to promote my father’s principles and work towards reforming the Republican Party."

Second: “I vote for the candidate who best supports term limits.” Several of them support term limits, but Mr. Massie says he won’t self-impose. Marcus Carey said he supports term limits and WOULD self-impose. Wouldn’t that “better” represent term limits than saying you are for something but then exempting yourself?

Will Paul and Massie follow self-imposed term limits or will they follow their career Politician and Messiah Leader Ron Paul the 30 year Career (do nothing) Politician? Personally, I believe the latter.

Third: “I vote for the candidate who best supports balanced budgets.” Marc Carey has said he not only will call for a balanced budget amendment in his first week in office but also has vowed to take a 30% cut in salary and a 50% cut in his Congressional expense account until the bill passes. Isn’t that better than merely mouthing platitudes? At least Marc Carey is willing to put his money where his mouth is.

But since Massie has no further in being re-elected in Lewis County as county Judge executive and won’t have a REAL job any longer. I guess the congressional salary, paid for by Kentucky taxpayers will buy more solar panels for that off the grid house he lives in; where he follows his cows around all day collecting manure in a five gallon bucket.

Fourth: “I vote for the candidate who best supports the Constitution.” Can you please tell me what Mr. Massie has EVER done to support the Constitution? I know he likes to talk about it, but Marc Carey has taken a stand many times and in fact won a First Amendment case in his own name supporting the rights of voters to have transparency in elections and successfully defended the Northern Kentucky TEA Party in a first Amendment case before the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance. Tell me just one thing Massie has ever done to “support the Constitution”. You decide I already have !

Then Rand says “I think Thomas Massie best fits that description”. He must be kidding. Marc Carey not only “best” fits that description, his credentials in all of these important areas is far superior to Mr. Massie, (and all of the others for that matter).

Come on Randy. Admit it. You like Massie because he lives “off the grid” in a solar panel house, wrote you a big check and supports your daddy and the others don’t support your daddy.

Well guess, what, the rest of us republicans don’t support your daddy either and neither do the majority of republicans across America, judging by how miserably you guys are doing everywhere.

Every once in a while I have to shake my head and bite my tongue to keep from saying what I really think. Less face some facts . We are on the brink of financial collapse yet folks in Washington seem to think we should spend more money . I am against is irresponsible spending and that has become an American past time. Millions of people are out of work, no doubt about that. But what got us into this financial defunct in the first place. Americans have lived on credit for years. Hardly anyone saves for retirement, the average American lives from pay check to pay check with out ever saving a dime. One hiccup in the ole' pay check and they loose their homes or one medical disaster and they are filling bankruptcy.
WHY? The simple answer is they don't plan ahead. They fail to see tomorrow and live for today. The credit card is one of our nations biggest and worst enemies an only a few seem to understand the buy now pay now principles of sounds financial judgment.Folks get a credit card , run it to the hilt and when the bill comes due they pay the minimal payment. There in lies the first mistake. The minimum payment barely pays the interest on the balance and guess what making minimum payments each month you will never pay the debt off unless you live to be a thousand and never use the card again.

Well, a lot of things not just one, there is plenty of blame to go around one reckless mistake after another both on the governments part and "we the people" too are to blame no one complained when they were getting bridges to nowhere , 30 thousand dollar turtle crossings nor

Remember when those Pre-approved credit cards came in the mail day after day? I can , I got as many as three or four a day at one time in the early 90's. At one time I had over 25 thousand dollars in pre-approved credit available to me.

Roll the clock back to the financial banking crisis and the mortgage bust how quickly we have forgotten. I often wonder if folks can do simple math anymore. We can't continue to spend what we don't have it is just that simple. During the housing boom of the 90's and up until 2008 buying houses was made so easy everyone was buying one. Housing appraisers we inflating the prices of homes and real estate agents we doing whatever it took, even lying in order to get mortgages to sell homes. The banks were lending money to folks that did not even qualify for a mortgage. If you make $50,000.00 a year you can't afford a $350,000 dollar home but that sure didn't stop folks from buying one.

There are no new jobs being created with all the latest Green energy grants, loans and all that stimulus money as a matter of fact several of the companies that got millions for green energy went defunct Solyndra, a San Francisco Bay area solar company declared chapter 11 some 1,100 people lost their jobs. Those loans were government guarantees loans. So who eats that , We do ,the taxpayers. The green energy so far has been one disaster after the other.

"The company, Ener1, received a $118 million grant from DOE in 2010 as part of the president’s stimulus package. The money, which went to Ener1 subsidiary EnerDel, aimed to promote renewable energy storage battery technology for electrical grid use.
But despite generous federal support for the company, Ener1 was racked by problems last year. In October, NASDAQ delisted the company due to non-compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission filing requirements. A month later, the company’s president, chief executive, and top financial officer were fired.
On Thursday, Ener1 announced it will initiate a pre-packaged Chapter 11 bankruptcy plan as part of an agreement to restructure the company’s debt obligations."

I got a real kick out of Vice- President Biden's statement :" The stimulus was, Biden claimed, “not just creating new jobs, but sparking whole new industries that will ensure our competitiveness for decades to come — industries like electric vehicle manufacturing.” (Hey, Joe that Chevy Volt has been a real winner, drive down the road and catch on fire .. gotta love that.) He went on to single out Ener1 specifically." I wonder how much stock he has in Ener1 ? News flash Joe, the money was suppose to create JOBS NOW , not 20 years down the road. Our government has become like the money pit dream house, it should have been torn down and started a new but you were assured you could fix it .. at the end of the day, you still have a money pit that cost you more then it is worth.

Here is a short list of government waste:

Federal agencies are delinquent on nearly 20 percent of employee travel charge cards, costing taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars annually.[9]
The Securities and Exchange Commission spent $3.9 million rearranging desks and offices at its Washington, D.C., headquarters.[10]
The Pentagon recently spent $998,798 shipping two 19-cent washers from South Carolina to Texas and $293,451 sending an 89-cent washer from South Carolina to Florida.[11]
Over half of all farm subsidies go to commercial farms, which report average household incomes of $200,000.[12]
Health care fraud is estimated to cost taxpayers more than $60 billion annually.[13]
A GAO audit found that 95 Pentagon weapons systems suffered from a combined $295 billion in cost overruns.[14]
The refusal of many federal employees to fly coach costs taxpayers $146 million annually in flight upgrades.[15]
Washington will spend $126 million in 2009 to enhance the Kennedy family legacy in Massachusetts. Additionally, Senator John Kerry (D-MA) diverted $20 million from the 2010 defense budget to subsidize a new Edward M. Kennedy Institute.[16]
Federal investigators have launched more than 20 criminal fraud investigations related to the TARP financial bailout.[17]
Despite trillion-dollar deficits, last year’s 10,160 earmarks included $200,000 for a tattoo removal program in Mission Hills, California; $190,000 for the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming; and $75,000 for the Totally Teen Zone in Albany, Georgia.[18]
The federal government owns more than 50,000 vacant homes.[19]
The Federal Communications Commission spent $350,000 to sponsor NASCAR driver David Gilliland.[20]
Members of Congress have spent hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars supplying their offices with popcorn machines, plasma televisions, DVD equipment, ionic air fresheners, camcorders, and signature machines — plus $24,730 leasing a Lexus, $1,434 on a digital camera, and $84,000 on personalized calendars.[21]
More than $13 billion in Iraq aid has been classified as wasted or stolen. Another $7.8 billion cannot be accounted for.[22]
Fraud related to Hurricane Katrina spending is estimated to top $2 billion. In addition, debit cards provided to hurricane victims were used to pay for Caribbean vacations, NFL tickets, Dom Perignon champagne, “Girls Gone Wild” videos, and at least one sex change operation.[23]
Auditors discovered that 900,000 of the 2.5 million recipients of emergency Katrina assistance provided false names, addresses, or Social Security numbers or submitted multiple applications.[24]
Congress recently gave Alaska Airlines $500,000 to paint a Chinook salmon on a Boeing 737.[25]
The Transportation Department will subsidize up to $2,000 per flight for direct flights between Washington, D.C., and the small hometown of Congressman Hal Rogers (R-KY) — but only on Monday mornings and Friday evenings, when lawmakers, staff, and lobbyists usually fly. Rogers is a member of the Appropriations Committee, which writes the Transportation Department’s budget.[26]
Washington has spent $3 billion re-sanding beaches — even as this new sand washes back into the ocean.[27]
A Department of Agriculture report concedes that much of the $2.5 billion in “stimulus” funding for broadband Internet will be wasted.[28]
