2008 Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR JL’s 40 Anniversary Series (2009) Diecast Scale 1:64 by Johnnny Lightning

Esta es otra de esas oportunidades en que un auto de por sí clasificado como super deportivo (uno de los pocos provenientes de Norteamérica) es "afinado" para incrementar su desempeño de forma notoria con ciertas "delicadezas" que lo hacen aún más especial.

El Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR (American Club Racing) es una versión del Viper con mejoras como: filtros de aire K&N Engineering, tubos de admisión más eficientes, suspensión ajustable, más rígida y discos de freno masivos de 14" con doble pinza de Brembo. En cuanto a la aerodinámica, los deflectores delanteros y trasero fueron mejorados por CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) y fabricados principalmente en fibra de carbono. Los rines son de 18" x 10" adelante y 19" x 13" atrás en aluminio forjado liviano. Todo esto y algunas cosas más, contribuyeron a una reducción de peso de 64 lb (casi 30 kg) y aunque su motor de 600 hp y 560 lb/ft no fue modificado, el auto "anda" mucho mejor !!!... Lo más interesante es que este "paquete" es legal para calle y se ofreció por debajo de los US$ 100.000 para 2008 (por estos días su valor debe haberse incrementado considerablemente).

Johnny Lightning vuelve al ataque en este blog, con una pieza impactante, que reproduce con bastante fidelidad la silueta y esquema de color rojo con decoración negra del auto original. Como es costumbre en JL (sobretodo en los modelos más recientes), el trabajo de pintura y tampografía es muy bueno para esta escala y por ello aquí tendrá un espacio de exhibición... Espero contar con sus visitas regulares y les deseo bendiciones del DIOS de Gloria y Majestad... Hasta la semana que viene...=)

This is another of those times when a car classified in itself as a super sport car (one of the few made in the U.S.A.) is "tuned" to increase markedly its performance with certain "delicacies" that makes it even more special.

The Dodge Viper SRT-10 ACR (American Club Racing) is a version of the Viper with upgrades such as: K&N Engineering air filters, smooth intake tubes, stiffer and adjustable suspension and massive 14" disc brakes with double caliper by Brembo. On the aerodynamic, the front and rear splitters were improved by CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) and made mainly of carbon fiber. The wheels are 18" x 10" front and 19" x 13" rear in lightweight forged aluminum. All this and some other little changes, contributed to a reduction in weight of 64 lb (about 30 kg) and although the engine with 600 hp and 560 lb/ft was not modified, the car "runs" a lot better !!!... What’s interesting is that this "package" is street-legal and offered bellow US$ 100.000 for 2008 (nowadays its value must have increased considerably).

Johnny Lightning strikes again in this blog, with a shocking piece, which reproduce quite accurately the shape and color scheme red with black decoration of the actual vehicle. As usual in JL (specially in the latest models), the paint and pad printing jobs are very good for this scale and therefore they will have a "showroom" in this place... B•Daman Blasters Customizable Battle Figures Group 4 (Final) by Hasbro

En publicaciones anteriores mencioné que estas figuras pertenecian a una serie de televisión. Sin embargo, hace poco me enteré que también circuló un manga de esta misma serie y que su creador es Eiji Inuki. Igualmente debo añadir que aparte de haber sido emitida en Japón y E.E.U.U.A., esta serie fue vista en Canadá e incluso en Reino Unido (probablemente haya sido emitida en otros países, pero no tengo información al respecto).

No puedo ni pretendo abarcar todo lo que representa el fenómeno Battle B•Daman, pero creo que logré llamar la atención sobre esta serie en mi blog y pude darme cuenta que estas figuras tienen su grupo de fanáticos. Como quiera que ésta es mi última publicación sobre Battle B•Daman, deseo reiterar mi satisfacción por el increiblemente simple y divertido diseño de estas piezas, la calidad de su fabricación que las hace durables incluso en las manos de niños (la prueba más exigente, no hay duda !!!), la posibilidad de personalizarlas e intercambiar partes de sus armaduras para incrementar la precisión del disparo, la cantidad de disparos por ronda o simplemente para hacerlos lucir mejor y hay más...

Algo que tampoco mencioné en las publicaciones previas es que estas figuras incluyen stickers plastificados para decorarlos (pero yo no los utilicé, pues no se ajustan perfectamente a la silueta de la armadura, cosa en la que soy bastante exigente). Este grupo incluye: Helio Breaker, Knight Cavalry y Dragogale. Ya veremos, con la ayuda del DIOS de Abraham, Isaac e Israel qué traeré la próxima semana... =)

In previous publications i mentioned that these figures belonged to a TV series. However, recently i noticed that also circulated a manga on this series and that its creator is Eiji Inuki. Also i must add that apart from having been issued in Japan and U.S.A., this series was seen in Canada and even in the U.K. (probably has been issued in other countries, but i have no information).

I cannot pretend to cover everything about the Battle B•Daman phenomenon, but i think i managed to draw attention to this series on my blog and i realized that these figures have their group of fans. Since this is my final post on Battle B•Daman, i wish to reiterate my appreciation for the incredibly simple and funny design of these pieces, the quality in the manufacture that makes them durable even in the hands of children (the most demanding test, no doubt !!!), the possibility of customizing and exchange parts of their armors to increase shooting accuracy, the number of shots per round, or simply to make them look better and there is more...

Something i didn’t mention in previous publications is that these figures include plasticized stickers to decorate them (but i didn’t use them, since they don’t fit the shape of the armor perfectly and i’m pretty picky about that). This group includes: Helio Breaker, Knight Cavalry and Dragogale. We’ll see, with the help of the GOD of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, what i will bring next week... =)

Rapid Response 2010 HW Premiere 20/52 Diecast by Hot Wheels

En los últimos días me he sentido muy raro. Empecé a escuchar cosas... Música... Y me invadía un deseo incontrolable de bailar (además, lo hacía muy bien !!!). En vista que los síntomas resultaban muy pertubadores, decidí llamar a mi médico de cabecera: el Dr. Beat. Cuando llegó (en circunstancias que explicaré después) comenzó a auscultarme y me dijo: "me temo que tendremos que examinar su próstata"... A lo que yo respondí tajantemente: "sabe, doctor, ya me siento mucho mejor !!!". HAHAHAHAHAHA...

Sí se preguntan qué tiene que ver esto con mi publicación para hoy, pues mi respuesta es: TODO. El Dr. Beat llega a sus consultas a domicilio, en una ambulancia similar a la que ven publicada y a la que aparece en el video. Es más, también su ambulancia es casi tan hormonada como su enfermera (que también se asemeja a la del video, con unos niveles de testosterona "ligeramente" por encima de promedio)...

Ahora, hablando en serio, yo soy un "devoto" de los vehículos de emergencia, especialmente los de los cuerpos de policía, bomberos y por supuesto las ambulancias, producidas en los E.E.U.U.A. Hot Wheels diseñó un modelo que captó mi atención de forma inmediata, y que me recuerda al Ford E450 EVI Wheeled Coach, aunque claro, es una extrapolación. Sus detalles y decoración son bastante interesantes y bueno, si está aquí, es porque pasó mis exigentes requerimientos. Contando con la buena Voluntad de DIOS, nos veremos la semana que viene con algo más... =)

In recent days i have felt very weird. I started hearing things... Music... And i was invaded by an uncontrollable desire to dance (moreover, i did it pretty fine !!!). Given that the symptoms were very disturbing, i decided to call my family doctor: Dr. Beat. When he arrived (in circumstances which i will explain later) he began to auscultate me and said: "i’m afraid we’ll have to examine your prostate... So i replied sharply: "you know, doctor, now i feel much better !!!". HAHAHAHAHAHA...

If you were wondering what this has to do with my post for today, well, my answer is: EVERYTHING. Dr. Beat arrives to his home visits, in an ambulance that is pretty similar to that published and also to the one displayed on the video. Even more, also the ambulance has almost as much hormones as the nurse (which also resembles the one of the video, with levels of testosterone "slightly" above average)...

Now, seriously, i’m a "devout" of emergency vehicles, specially from the police, fire corps and of course, of ambulances produced in the U.S.A. Hot Wheels designed a model that caught my attention immediately and which reminds me of the Ford E450 EVI Wheeled Coach, but it’s clear, is an extrapolation. The detail and decoration are quite interesting and well, if it’s here is because it passed my stringent requirements. Relying in the good Will of GOD, we will see us next week with something more... =)

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean Version - 10" Collector Figure by Playmates

Familia que colecciona unida, permanece unida... HAHAHAHAHA... Puede que suene ridículo, pero es verdad. Creo que el hábito de coleccionar es algo inherente al ser humano. De forma inconsciente coleccionamos vivencias, recuerdos y en ocasiones, eso está asociado a cosas tangibles, objetos. Las figuras de colección carecerían de todo valor si no estuvieran asociadas a una experiencia particular, serían simplemente pedazos de plástico, metal y cartón, eso lo tengo muy claro.

Aunque ustedes no lo crean, esta figura pertenece a una de mis lindas sobrinas, de apenas 3 años y fanática del rey del pop. Antes de llegar a sus pequeñas y (aparentemente) cuidadosas manos, sus padres pensaron que sería una buena idea tener un recuerdo de la figura completa y en perfectas condiciones HEHEHE. Una cosa es verla publicada en algún sitio de compras por internet y otra muy diferente verla en persona.

Lo que más me gustó fue el diseño/escultura del rostro de MJ, de estilo "dibujo animado" y con un enfoque muy diferente al de la respectiva figura de Hot Toys, que sin embargo logra una gran similitud con el artista real. El trabajo en la indumentaria es bastante meritorio para ser una pieza de 10" y la base de exhibición me pareció excelente, con la firma de MJ serigrafiada en dorado sobre el fondo de color tabaco translúcido, rematado por un sticker holográfico. Al parecer se trata de una edición limitada de 100.000 piezas y esta es la 05246, lo que le da un valor agregado como figura de colección. Como siempre mi agradecimiento a DIOS que me permite disfrutar esta afición y ójala podamos vernos la próxima semana... =)

Family that collects together, stays together... HAHAHAHAHA... It may sound ridiculous, but it’s true. I think the habit of collecting is inherent to human beings. Unconscious we collect experiences, memories and sometimes they are associated with tangible things, objects. The collection figures would have no value if they were not associated with a particular experience, they would be simply pieces of plastic, metal and cardboard, i have that very clear.

Believe it or not, this figure belongs to one of my beautiful nieces, just 3 years old and a fan of the king of pop. Before coming to her small and (apparently) careful hands, her parents thought that it would be a great idea to have a memory of the complete figure, in perfect condition HEHEHE. One thing is to see it published somewhere in an online store and quite another to see it in person.

What i liked the most was the design/sculpture of the face of MJ, of a "cartoon" style and an approach quite different from the corresponding figure by Hot Toys, yet achieves a great similarity to the real artist. The work on the clothing is worthy to be a 10" piece and the base design is excellent, with the signing of MJ in gold silkscreened on a tobacco colored translucent background, topped by a holographic sticker. This seems to be a limited edition of 100,000 pieces and this one is the 05246, which gives it an extra value as a collectible figure. As always my thank to GOD who allows me to enjoy this hobby and hopefully we see us here next week... =)

1965 Ford Mustang Fastback -Black with Flames- JL’s 40 Anniversary Series (2009) Diecast Scale 1:64 by Johnny Lightning

Cómo piensan ustedes que un fanático de los Muscle Cars americanos podía estar con la conciencia tranquila, sin incluir a otro de los grandes contendores del segmento ??? No, amigos, no se equivoquen... A alguien como yo, no se le escapan ese tipo de cosas. De hecho, estamos hablando prácticamente del único auto de este tipo, que permaneció en producción desde su creación hasta nuestros días y ni siquiera el venerable Chevrolet Camaro puede darse el lujo de decir lo mismo.

El Ford Mustang es un vehículo con mucha historia, y es así que su nombre se usa para describir una subcategoría dentro de los Muscle Cars, la de los Pony Cars. Este auto ha tenido una evolución muy particular, en la que su tamaño y prestaciones han aumentado y disminuído de una forma casi cíclica. Por momentos, su diseño y desempeño distintivos parecieron desaparecer, para dar paso a un modelo casi genérico, sin picante ni carácter, pero vió días de gloria y esos días parecen regresar para nuestro placer.

Este es el primero de varios bocados que verán aquí, de éste increíble vehículo (y estoy siendo generoso, pues no acostumbro anunciar lo que publicaré a futuro)... En esta oportunidad con un delicioso ejemplo de Johnny Lightning, más exactamente el Ford Mustang 1965 Fastback, cuyo esquema de color y decoración me parecen fenomenales y muy acordes con lo que este auto representa, aún los vidrios con un acabado frosted le añaden un carácter enigmático, casi de auto asesino en serie de película ochentera... Como siempre, doy gracias al DIOS Todopoderoso por permitirme seguir adelante y nos veremos la semana que viene... =)

How do you think that a fan of the american Muscle Cars could be with a clear conscience, without including another major contender of this segment ??? No, folks, make no mistakes... Someone like me, doesn’t let this kind of things happen. In fact, we are talking about the only car of this type, which remained in production since its creation until today and even the Chevrolet Camaro cannot afford to say it.

The Ford Mustang is a vehicle with a lot of history, and so its name is used to describe a subcategory of the Muscle Cars, the Pony Cars. This car has had a particular evolution where its size and performance have been increased and decreased in an almost cyclical patron. At times, its distinctive design and performance seemed to disappear giving way to a model almost generic, lacking of spice and character, but it saw glory days and those days seem to come back for our pleasure.

This is the first of some pieces that will be here on this amazing car (and i’m being generous, because i’m not used to announce what i will publish in the future)... This time with a delicious sample by Johnny Lightning, to be precise the 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback, whose color scheme and decoration seem phenomenal and very consistent with what this car is, even the glasses with a frosted finish add an enigmatic touch, almost like one of those serial-murderer cars from the 80’s horror movies... As always, i thank Almighty GOD for allowing me to keep going and see you next week... =)

Future U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D Star Trek Federation Ships & Alien Ships Collection Miniature Display Model by Furuta

A pesar de ser un coleccionista con cierta experiencia, lo que hace que cada vez menos cosas me sorprendan, no deja de ser curioso para mí la abundancia de trivia disponible sobre las naves espaciales que han aparecido en las diferentes sagas de Viaje a las Estrellas. Poco a poco empiezo a entender el fenómeno que representa esta serie y la cantidad de fanáticos que tiene alrededor del mundo.

La que publico el día de hoy, es con mucho, la más prólija y de hecho es la que fue diseñada para la serie Viaje a las Estrellas: La Nueva Generación (1987-1994), por Andrew Probert (quién actualizó el diseño original de la Enterprise para Viaje a las Estrellas: La Película en 1979). También es, al parecer, la que más formas de vida extraterrestres encontró y la única que llegó al límite del universo físico en esta serie de ciencia ficción.

Es una nave de la Galaxy Class cuya silueta compacta engaña, pues en la vida real sería enorme. Además, es de las pocas Enterprise que puede dividirse en dos, de manera que el casco y el platillo pueden actuar como naves de combate independientes. Como es costumbre la reproducción hecha por Furuta es muy bien lograda, tanto en detalle como en trabajo de pintura/tampografía/serigrafía y las bases que las acompañan son excelentes para su exhibición. Sí el Señor Jesucristo, que es grande en misericordia nos permite, nos veremos la semana que viene.... =)

Despite being a collector with some experience, which makes me less and less surprised, it’s curious for me the wealth of trivia available on the spacecrafts that have appeared in the various sagas of Star trek. Slowly i begin to understand the phenomenon of this series and the number of fans it has around the world.

The one i’m publishing today, is by far, the most prolific and in fact it was designed for the series Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994), by Andrew Probert (who updated the original design of the Enterprise for Star Trek: The Motion Picture in 1979). It’s also, apparently, the one which most alien forms found and the only one which reached the limit of the physical universe in this science fiction series.

This is a Galaxy Class starship which compact shape can deceive, because in the real life it would be enormous. In addition, this Enterprise is one of the few that can be divided into two, so that the hull and the saucer can act like independent combat ships. As usual the reproduction made by Furuta is very well made, both in detail and in paint/pad printing/silkscreen job and the accompanying bases are great for display. If the Lord Jesus Christ, Who’s great in mercy, allows us... We’ll see something more next week =)

Corvette StingRay Concept (2009) 2010 New Models Series Diecast by Hot Wheels

Prácticamente todas las marcas automotrices de prestigio a nivel mundial han creado lo que se denomina "autos concepto", esto es, visiones de cómo debería ser un auto en el futuro. Desde los años 20 del siglo pasado, los diseñadores se propusieron generar ideas novedosas en torno a un medio de transporte que se había convertido, hasta cierto punto, en algo cotidiano.

También las grandes competencias automovilísticas dieron un gran impulso al desarrollo de autos, que incluían no sólo la mejor ingeniería mecánica disponible sino tambíen un diseño de vanguardia en sus carrocerías, que a pesar de responder a una serie de exigentes requerimientos técnicos, eran hermosas. Para 1957, Pete Brock, Bill Mitchell y Larry Shinoda idearon otro de los grandes íconos automotrices de la industria norteamericana: el Corvette Stingray (que fue una realidad en 1959).

En 2009 y celebrando su 50 aniversario, vió la luz en el Chicago Auto Show el fabuloso Corvette StingRay Concept que publico hoy. Su diseño exquisito (que se tomó como base para encarnar a Sideswipe en dos cintas de Transformers) está complementado por los más modernos materiales y comodidades de alta tecnología disponibles actualmente. La réplica de Hot Wheels me encanta por su simpleza (aunque su molde fue muy bien trabajado), su esquema de color amarillo policromado y su preciso trabajo de tampografía... Sólo disfruten esta belleza y con la ayuda de DIOS nos veremos la próxima semana... =)

Almost all renowned automotive brands worldwide have created what is called "concept cars", ie visions of how a car should be in the future. From the 20’s of the last century, the designers set out to generate new ideas around a means of transportation that had become, to some extend, in a fact of life.

Great car racing events as well gave great impetus to the development of cars, which included not only the best mechanical engineering available but also an edge design in their body art, that while responding to a series of stringent technical requirements, they were beautiful. By 1957, Pete Brock, Bill Mitchell and Larry Shinoda devised another great automotive icon of the american industry: the Corvette Stingray (that became a reality in 1959).

In 2009 and celebrating its 50th anniversary, saw the light at the Chicago Auto Show the fabulous Corvette StingRay Concept that i post today. Its exquisite design (which was taken as a basis to embody Sideswipe in two Transformers movies) is complemented by the latest materials and high-tech amenities available nowadays. The Hot Wheels replica is fantastic for its simplicity (although its cast was very well worked), its polichromed yellow color scheme and its precise pad printing work... Just enjoy this beauty and with the help of GOD we will see next week... =)

Ya me convencí que la mejor manera de cerrar el año en este blog de figuras de colección es mostrar las 10 figuras más representativas que poseo. Noten que dije representativas y no mejores, pues para mí TODAS las figuras que poseo y publico son las mejores en su tipo, de no ser así ni siquiera pasarían por mi mente.

No sobra recordarle a mis visitantes y fanáticos, que lo que ven, está aquí porque me gusta, porque tengo una conexión emocional con esto y créanme, NADIE me paga por publicar lo que publico... Eso garantiza mi honestidad e independencia. Además, ni siquiera pretendo guiar a los que visitan cándidamente mi blog sobre lo que deben o no considerar digno de ser coleccionado. Creo que cada cual tiene criterio (mucho o poco) para hacer su propia decisión al respecto. Aclarado esto, puedo decir que este año que está por terminar ha sido muy satisfactorio en lo que a mi hobbie se refiere. He logrado adquirir piezas por las que había esperado ansiosamente, he recibido regalos inesperados que aprecio muchísimo y he conocido nuevos colegas que me brindan apoyo a través de sus comentarios que valoro en gran manera y me animan a continuar.

Pero sobretodo doy gracias al DIOS Vivo y Verdadero, el DIOS de la Biblia, que me provee absolutamente todo, incluyendo lo que concierne a esta locura/pasión por los juguetes en general. Por último, agradezco las visitas espontáneas de gente de todo el mundo y en especial las de aquellos que vuelven porque vieron algo que tocó alguna fibra o disparó algún recuerdo en su mente. Desde ahora deseo a todos un Feliz Año Nuevo, que el Señor Jesucristo continue manifestando su Gracia para Salvación y nos veremos las próxima semana si Él lo permite, con más y más curiosidades... =)

Now i’m convinced that the best way to finish the year on this blog is to show the 10 most representative collection figures i own. Do notice that i said representative and not the best, because for me ALL the figures i own and publish are the best of their kind, if that weren’t the case they wouldn’t even go through my mind.

Needless to remind my visitors and fans that what you see is here, because i like it, because i have an emotional connection with this, and believe me, NOBODY is paying me to publishing what i publish... This ensure my honesty and independence. Moreover, i don’t even try to lead the candid visitors of my blog about what should or should not be considered worthy of being collected. I think everyone has discretion (much or little) to make their own decision. Now that this is clear, i can say that the year that is about to end has been very satisfactory with regard to my hobby. I managed to acquire pieces for which i waited anxiously, i received unexpected gifts that i appreciate very much and i have met new colleagues who are supporting me through their comments which i value greatly and encourage me to continue.

But most of all i thank the True and Living GOD, the GOD of the Bible, Who provides me everything, including with regard to this madness/passion for toys in general. Finally i thank spontaneous visits from people all over the world and specially those who return to this digital place because they saw something that touched a fiber or shot a memory in their minds. From now, i wish you all a Happy New Year, may the Lord Jesus Christ continue expressing His Grace for Salvation and we will see the next week if He allows it, with more and more curiosities... =)

1950 Chevy Panel Delivery JL’s 40 Anniversary Series (2009) Diecast Scale 1:64 by Johnnny Lightning

Como todas las empresas, Johnny Lightning ha tenido sus altas y bajas. También ha pasado por "varias manos", pues habiendo sido inicialmente de Topper Toys (1969), pasó a propiedad de Playing Mantis (1994) y en 2005 ésta última fue comprada por RC2 Corporation, su actual dueña. Johnny Lightning, sus productos y sobretodo los consumidores de estas réplicas automotrices a escala, nos hemos visto beneficiados con estos cambios y evolución; pues habiendo conocido de primera mano unos pocos modelos vintage de esta marca, debo decir que la calidad en todos los sentidos (moldes, detalles, pintura, decoración, fidelidad al original) ha mejorado ostensiblemente.

Los modelos más recientes, aunque más costosos (por lo cual algunos coleccionistas se quejan), justifican plenamente la inversión y es un placer coleccionarlos... Si alguien quiere diecast más económicos, hay varias opciones disponibles. Hasta aquí va la historia de JL, así que para conocer el resto de la misma, invito a mis lectores a remitirse a mis publicaciones anteriores de Johnny Lightning. De aquí en adelante, me concentraré en los modelos en sí y sus referentes originales, cosa que me apasiona.

Los 50’s fueron tiempos alegres, por lo que se deduce de los vehículos fabricados durante esa época. Por ejemplo, la colosal Chevrolet Panel Truck 1950, es muestra de tiempos generosos (en tamaño y consumo de gasolina) y esta reproducción de JL le hace mucha justicia. Aunque el esquema de color y decoración es casi minimalista, usa colores brillantes lo que la hace muy atractiva. El trabajo de tampografía es sobresaliente y se nota sobretodo en los diminutos logos que son legibles y el diseño de los rines negros le da un aire deportivo extraño pero impactante... Espero contar con las visitas de mis leales fanáticos la próxima semana y de antemano, gracias a DIOS que nos cuida fielmente... =)

Like all companies, Johnny Lightning has had its ups and downs. It also went through "several hands", as having been initially part of Topper Toys (1969), became the property of Playing Mantis (1994) and in 2005 the latter was purchased by RC2 Corporation, its present owner. Johnny Lightning, its products and specially the consumers of such car scale replicas, have been benefited from these changes and evolution; since having known at first hand a few vintage models of this brand, i must say that the quality in all respects (molds, details, paint job, decoration, fidelity to the original) has been improved significantly.

The latest models, though more expensive (for which some collectors complain), fully justify the investment and is a pleasure to collect them... If someone wants cheaper diecast, there are several options available. Here’s the story of JL, so to see the rest of it, i invite my readers to refer to my previous Johnny Lightning publications. From now on i will concentrate on the models themselves and their original referents, which i love.

The 50’s were times of happiness, and it’s clear looking at the vehicles manufactured during that time. For example, the colosal 1950 Chevrolet Panel Truck, is a sample of generous times (in size and fuel consumption) and this JL’s reproduction makes it a lot of justice. Although the color scheme and decoration is almost minimalist, it uses bright colors which makes it very attractive. The pad work is outstanding and it’s shown specially in the tiny logos that are legible and the black wheels design gives it a strange sporty look but stricking... I look forward to the visits of my loyal fans next week and in advance, thank GOD who cares of us faithfully... =)

Creo que pocos de nosotros pensamos seriamente en lo que un juguete representa en términos de estrategias de mercadeo, las cuales existen desde que estos empezaron a producirse de forma industrial (la Revolución Industrial empezó a finales del siglo XIX, para que nos formemos una idea de lo viejo de esas prácticas mercantiles...)

Hay un significativo "aparato publicitario" detrás de cada figura de colección que conocemos y no digo que esto sea lo más importante para un verdadero coleccionista, ni que deba influir su decisión de compra... Sencillamente un juguete SIEMPRE es más que un juguete. Por ejemplo, la franquicia B•Daman tuvo, aparte de los torneos en vivo a ambos lados del mundo, una serie de televisión en dos temporadas, la primera de 52 capítulos lanzada en 2004 para Japón y 2005 para el resto del mundo y la segunda de 50 capítulos lanzada en 2005 para Japón y 2007 para el resto del mundo (pero sólo 27 capítulos fueron emitidos para el mercado no japonés).

Creo que este es uno de esos casos en los que unas figuras de colección dan lugar a una serie de televisión. Se trata de juguetes simples, es claro, pero es allí donde radica su potencial para generar diversión sin importar mucho la edad... Casi me parece estar viendo uno de esos viejos juguetes, en los que la parafernalia electrónica actual es reemplazada por la imaginación del dueño y además se los puede personalizar !!!. Este grupo incluye: Dark Zephir, Cobalt Blade y General One. Si el SEÑOR me lo permite, estaré aquí compartiendo con ustedes alguna otra curiosidad dentro de mi colección... =)

Few of us think seriously about what a toy represents in terms of marketing strategies, which exist since they began to be produced industrially (the Industrial Revolution began in the late nineteenth century, so we can have an idea of how old are these business practices...)

There is a significant "media machine" behind each collection figure that we know and i don’t mean that this is the most important thing for a true collector, or that it should influence our decision to purchase... Simply a toy is ALWAYS more than a toy. For example, the B•Daman franchise had, apart from the live tournaments on both sides of the world, a television series in two seasons, the first of 52 episodes released in 2004 for Japan and 2005 for the rest of the world and the second of 50 episodes released in 2005 for Japan and 2007 for the rest of the world (but only 27 episodes were released for the non-japanese market).

I think that this is one of those cases in which some collection figures inspire a TV series. These are simple toys, of course, but is precisely there where resides its potential to generate a lot of fun and it doesn’t really matter the age... I feel like watching one of those old toys in which the recent electronic paraphernalia is replaced by the imagination of the owner and they can be customized as well !!!. This group includes: Dark Zephir, Cobalt Blade and General One. If the LORD allows me, i will be here sharing with you another curiosity in my collection... =)

1968 Mercury Cougar Hot Wheels Stars Series (2007) 104/156 Diecast by Hot Wheels

Estoy pensando seriamente en autopostularme como uno de los más grandes fanáticos incorregibles de los Muscle Cars. Mi fascinación por ellos permaneció en hibernación por mucho tiempo, así que aquí estaré contagiando esa "infección" hasta que DIOS me permita.

Luego del notable éxito en ventas y preferencias del ya icónico Ford Mustang, una de sus divisiones de lujo: Mercury (la misma del Awsom 50) decidió montar sobre esta plataforma y con algunas modificaciones, un auto que aunque hacía énfasis en la opulencia, no dejaba de tener unas prestaciones muy interesantes. En su versión más musculada, el Mercury Cougar GT-E venía montado con un motor V8 428 qué, para pasar las exigentes pruebas de los agentes de seguros fue tasado en "modestos" 335 bhp, aunque en realidad alcanzaba 390 bhp y podía hacer 0-60 mph en 7.1 seg o 1/4 de milla en 15.12 seg a 93.6 mph... Me parece que un auto así difícilmente podría llamarse "gatito inofensivo", no creen ???

Hot Wheels como era de esperarse, tiene en su "garaje" una buena cantidad de Muscle Cars y como quiera que han mejorado notablemente sus moldes, pues yo no me privo de tener unos cuantos de sus modelos. Aquí lograron un muy buen trabajo, con su esquema de pintura y decoración pulcra, de buen gusto, su buena dosis de cromo y sobretodo los vidrios tintados en color humo que lo hacen ver suntuosamente agresivo, YUMI !!! Como siempre los espero la próxima semana y que el DIOS de la Biblia sea nuestro guía... =)

I’m seriously considering to proclaim myself as one of the greatest incorrigible Muscle Cars zealot. My fascination with them remained in hibernation for so long, so i will be here spreading the "infection" until GOD allows me.

After the remarkable success in sales and preferences of the already iconic Ford Mustang, one of its luxury divisions: Mercury (the same of the Awsom 50) decided to start on this platform and with some modifications, a car that although made an emphasis on opulence, had as well a very interesting performance. At its most muscular version, the Mercury Cougar GT-E had been fitted with a V8 428 engine that, to pass the stringent tests of the insurance agents was appraised at "modest" 335 bhp, but actually reached 390 bhp and could do 0-60 mph in 7,1 sec or 1/4 mile in 15,12 sec at 93,6 mph... I think that a car like this could hardly be called "harmless kitten", don’t you think so ???

Hot Wheels as expected, has in its "garage" a lot of Muscle Cars and since they have significantly improved their casting, i don’t deprive myself of having a few of their models. Here they achieved a very good work with its neat paint job and decoration, tasteful, a good dose of chrome and specially the smoke color tinted windows that make it look sumptuously aggressive, YUMI !!! A Rare/Beautiful Gift or The Boundaries of Collecting

Mi hermano mayor, el que me regaló mis primeras figuras de colección algunos años antes de convertirse en un hobbie serio para mí, decidió enviarme esta inesperada sorpresa a inicios de este año. Algunas veces hay un lapso más o menos largo entre el momento en que tengo una figura en mis manos y el momento en que la publico, pero no puedo evitar el tomar decisiones arbitrarias.

Estoy casi seguro que más de uno se preguntará qué hace una pieza de este tipo publicada en un blog de "juguetes" ??? No estaría mejor en un blog sobre decoración ??? Y yo preguntaría, quién decide qué es una figura de colección y qué no ??? Yo no pertenezco al grupo de esos "coleccionistas" que esperan a que el "oráculo" de un "gurú del coleccionismo" o en su defecto de una tienda en línea los ilumine acerca de lo que deben o no coleccionar... Me parecería sencillamente patético...

En fin, cuando la ví, me fascinó el intrincado diseño de su traje que fue tallado con gran detalle, pero fue ese sofisticado toque "hentai" el que me convenció que este regalo era sencillamente perfecto y tendría un lugar de honor en mi colección. Es una escultura de 10" de alto, en porcelana, desconozco el fabricante pero puedo atestiguar su buen gusto y qué más puedo decir ???... Que me encanta, que es una muestra de una cultura fascinate: la japonesa y bla, bla, bla. Este blog NO-CONVENCIONAL los espera la próxima semana con algo más y entre tanto que la Bondad de DIOS nos acompañe... =)

My older brother, who gave me my very first collection figures a few years before this becoming a serious hobby for me, decided to send me this unexpected surprise early this year. Sometimes there is a more or less long period between the time i have a figure in my hands and the time i publish it, but i cannot avoid making arbitrary decisions.

I’m almost sure most of you are wondering what a piece like this is doing here in a blog of "toys" ??? Wouldn’t it be better in a blog about decoration ??? And i would ask, who decides what’s a collection figure and what’s not ??? I don’t belong to the group of those "collectors" who must wait for the "oracle" of a "guru of collectionism" or otherwise of an online store which enlighten them about what they must or must not to collect... It would be simply pathetic...

Finally, when i saw her, i was fascinated by the intrincate design of her dress which was carved paying great attention to details, but it was that sophisticated "hentai" touch which convinced me that this gift was just perfect and that it would have a place of honor in my collection. It’s a sculpture of 10" high, made of porcelain, i don’t know the manufacturer but i can vouch for their good taste and what else i can say ???... That i love it, which is a sample of a fascinating culture: the Japanese and blah, blah, blah. This NON-CONVENTIONAL blog awaits next week with something else and while that happens may the Goodness of GOD be with us... =)

1967 Chevy Camaro SS -The Spoilers- JL’s 40th Anniversary Series (2009) Diecast Scale 1:64 by Johnny Lightning

Las series de televisión y algunas películas fueron y han sido fuente de inspiración para la creación de modelos y líneas completas en Johnny Lightning. Gracias a los oficios de William Winckler, JL logró el licenciamiento para producir diecast basados en series como: Speed Racer, Supercar o Land of the Giants (también he visto modelos producidos con base en series como: Wacky Racers, The Flinstones, The Simpsons, The Ghostbusters, entre otras) pero nuevamente el incumplimiento en el pago de regalías por parte de Playing Mantis, dueña de JL, le hizo perder sus derechos de uso.

Todas las compañías dan pasos en falso, pero la reputación o "goodwill" es algo que debe cuidarse como un tesoro... Esta historia continuará... Los Muscle Cars americanos están muy bien representados en este blog (y continuarán estándolo, créanme =P) así que tenía ansiedad por presentar a este super clásico, el cual fue la inspiración para el renacimiento de los Camaro, luego de su casi extinción en 2002...

El Chevrolet Camaro SS de 1967, que venía lleno de opciones, alcanzaba en su versión más agresiva un status de alto desempeño con un motor V8 427 de 400 hp, todo un devorador de pavimento y buen rival para el Ford Mustang GT de la época !!!. Johnny Lightning puso su cuota de Camaros en esta serie con un apetitoso modelo de excelente detalle (aún las llantas tienen tampografiado el logo de Goodyear !!!), esquema de color super-deportivo y sin capó, pues trae un motor monumental... Tengo que mencionar que me encanta ??? Que el DIOS de la Biblia nos sea propicio y nos permita vernos la próxima semana... =)

The TV series and some movies were and have been a source of inspiration for the creation of models and full-lines for Johnny Lightning. Thanks to the work of William Winckler, JL obtained the license to produce diecast based on series such as: Speed Racer, Supercar or Land of the Giants (i have seen as well some models produced based on series like: Wacky Racers, The Flinstones, The Simpsons, The Ghostbusters, etc.) but again the breach in the payment of royalties by Playing Mantis, owner of JL, made them lose their use rights.

The 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS, which had been full of options, reached in its most aggressive version the high-performance status with a 427 V8 engine of 400 hp, everything a pavement devourer must be and a good match for the Ford Mustang GT at that time !!!. Johnny Lightning puts its share of Camaros in this series with this palatable model of excellent detail (even the tires have the Goodyear logo in pad-printing !!!), a super-sport color scheme and without hood, because it brings a monumental motor... I have to mention that i love it ??? May the GOD of the Bible is propitious and allows us to have an appointment next week... =)

SOFA Salón del Ocio y la Fantasía 2011 (SEFA Show of the Entertainment and the Fantasy 2011) -Event Coverage Part 2- by ChrismanDesign / My First Bloggy Experience

Me temo que dejé bastantes cabos sueltos en mi primera publicación sobre este evento y espero arreglar eso en esta ocasión. Debí comenzar diciendo que ésta es la tercera edición de SOFA (SEFA) y la segunda vez que se realiza en Corferias (el más grande centro de eventos y convenciones de Bogotá...). Este evento empezó tímidamente en 2009, pero se ha consolidado de una manera casi asombrosa, señal de que en la ciudad donde vivo había una masa crítica suficiente de aficionados al animé, manga, cómic, cosplay, videojuegos, coleccionismo y demás corrientes del amplio mundo del entretenimiento, como para justificar la creación de una feria o salón de este tipo.

También debo decir que los precios de las figuras de colección exhibidas allí son, en su gran mayoría, muy altos todavía para que resulten atractivos para coleccionistas conocedores como el suscrito. Mi política, en el caso de querer conseguir alguna figura específica seguirá siendo encargarla, aunque eso será muy esporádico... No obstante, conseguí algo por ahí que me gustó bastante y debo decir que cuando no hay dinero disponible, es muy bueno tener la tarjeta CrediAmigoColega MasterCard a la mano HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

Por último, mencionaré que la cultura del cosplay en mí ciudad es aún incipiente, pero lo que nos falta en "tecnología" para desarrollar un cosplay más "profesional", nos sobra en creatividad, actitud y ganas... Con todo, ví algunos ejemplos destacables y probablemente no sean todos, pues por mi trabajo sólo puede ir un día de los cuatro que duró el salón =/////... Como no soy amigo de extenderme demasiado (pues el tiempo en internet es oro...) sí acaso alguien tiene más dudas al respecto, déje su comentario al final de esta publicación o use el chat del blog... I’m affraid i left many loose ends in my first publication on this event and i hope to fix it this time. I should start by saying that this is the third edition of SEFA (SOFA) and the second time it takes place in Corferias (the largest event and convention center in Bogotá...). This event started timidly in 2009, but has stablished in an almost astonishing way, sign that in my home town there was a sufficient critical mass of fans of anime, manga, comic, cosplay, videogames, colectionism and other currents of the wide entertainment world, such as to justify the creation of this kind of fairs or shows.

I must say as well that prices for collection figures displayed there are, for the most of them, too high to be attractive for connoisseurs collectors as the undersigned. My policy, in case i want to get some specific figure will be to order it, but it will be very sporadic... However, i got something out there that i really liked and i must say that when there is no money available, it’s good to have the CreditFriendFellow MasterCard handy HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

Finally, i will mention that the cosplay culture in my city is still in its infancy, but what we lack of "technology" to develop a cosplay more "professional", we have in abundance of creativity, attitude and desire... But i saw some good examples and probably they were not all, because of my work and i could only go there one day of the four of the event =/////... As i’m not a friend of take so much time in my reviews (because time on internet is gold...) if anyone has more questions about it, just leave your comment at the end of the post or use the chat gadget... U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-C Star Trek Federation Ships & Alien Ships Collection Miniature Display Model by Furuta

Cuando pensamos en viajar en el tiempo, cosa que según las leyes de la física es prácticamente imposible, nos gusta dejar volar la imaginación... Interesantes teorías (otra vez esa palabra...) se han planteado por parte de escritores de ciencia ficción ya sea para el mundo literario, cinematográfico o televisivo.

En la serie "Viaje a las Estrellas: La Nueva Generación" (1990) que corresponde a la tercera saga de la franquicia, una paradoja de trágicas consecuencias ocurre, por un viaje en el tiempo que la nave espacial publicada hoy hizo al futuro. La NCC-1701-C, en su línea de tiempo (es decir, el "pasado" año 2344...) debía ser destruída junto con toda su tripulación; sin embargo, al haber entrado en una anomalía espacio-temporal y haber viajado al futuro, la nave y su tripulación sobrevivieron y el "curso de los acontecimientos" cambió drásticamente, pues una civilización alienígena que debía ser aliada (los Klingons) se había convertido en un acérrimo enemigo de la Federación de Planetas. En otras palabras, sucedió algo que no debía suceder.

Dejando de lado la ciencia ficción y volviendo a la realidad, me temo que la estructura espacio-temporal en la que estamos inmersos es mucho más compleja de lo que podríamos comprender y cada acto nuestro tiene consecuencias que realmente no podemos medir... He aquí otra muestra de gran detalle y muy buen trabajo de pintura/tampografía de esta marca japonesa: Furuta. Me encanta su esquema de color y en general el diseño de esta Enterprise de la clase Ambassador que "fue" producida en un futuro ficcional en 2292. Disfrútenla y confiando en DIOS nos veremos la semana que sigue... =)

When we think of time travel, which under the laws of physics is practically impossible, we like to let our imagination to fly... Interesting theories (that word again...) have been raised by science fiction writers either to the literary, film or television worlds.

In the series "Star Trek: The New Generation" (1990) which corresponds to the third saga of the franchise, a paradox occurs with tragic consequences because of a trip back in time to the future of the spacecraft published today. The NCC-1701-C, in its timeline (ie the "past" year 2344...) was to be destroyed along with its entire crew; however having entered a space-time anomaly and traveling to the future, the ship and its crew survived and the "course of events" changed dramatically, as an alien civilization that was to be an ally (the Klingons) had become a bitter enemy of the Federation of Planets. In other words, something happened that should not happen.

Leaving aside the science fiction and back to reality, i’m affraid that the space-time structure in which we are involved is far more complex than we might understand and every single act has consequences that we can’t really measure... Here is another example of great detail and very good paint/pad job of this japanese brand: Furuta. I love its color scheme and overall design of this Ambassador class Enterprise that "was" produced in a fictional future in 2292. Enjoy it and trusting in GOD we will be here the next week... =)

SOFA Salón del Ocio y la Fantasía 2011 (SEFA Show of the Entertainment and the Fantasy 2011) -Event Coverage Part 1- by ChrismanDesign / My First Bloggy Experience

Ya iba siendo hora que mostrara a mis colegas y visitantes alrededor del mundo, que en mi país y especificamente en su capital: Bogotá, D.C., donde vivo, hay una cultura del comic, animé, manga, coleccionismo, ilustración y arte urbano, que está creciendo con fuerza. También era hora de dejar a un lado mi timidez (suponiendo que alguna vez haya sido tímido... HOHOHO) para traerles esta breve reseña, dividida en dos partes.

Como se trata de un evento para una subcultura clandestina (mejor conocida como los "Frikis"), la entrada de mis dos colegas y yo, fue también un poquitín clandestina, como puede deducirse de las primeras imágenes que documentan este hecho de la vida real (no vayan a pensar que esto me lo imaginé... =PPPPP). Para empezar diré que extrañé la presencia de algunos expositores interesantes (importadores de figuras de colección), aunque hubo otros que manejaron ámbitos diferentes de la cultura del entretenimiento, lo cual me parece sano, pues para mí en la variedad está el placer. Igualmente me pareció que la organización esta mejorando progresivamente y aunque diste mucho de lo que uno vería en una "Comic-Con", se le está dando espacio a varias expresiones locales de este mundillo loco en el que están inmersos dementes como nosotros.

Parte importante de generar una cultura (o contracultura) es la asimilación de conceptos, ideas, puntos de vista que provienen del exterior, para vivenciarlos localmente y lograr una identidad propia (ya estoy sonando como antropólogo...) Creo que las imágenes son bastante informativas, pero si alguno de mis colegas o visitantes tiene inquietudes, bien puede dejar un comentario al respecto al final de esta publicación o usar mi gadget de chat (parte de mi campaña contra la timidez friki) y con gusto las resolveré... Por el momento, deseo que DIOS nos bendiga y que la próxima semana podamos encontrarnos nuevamente... =)

Is about time to show my colleagues and visitors from around the world, that in my country and specifically in its capital: Bogotá, DC, where i live, there is a culture of comic, anime, manga, collectionism, illustration and street/urban art, which is growing fast. It was also time to put aside my shyness (assuming that i ever were shy... HOHOHO) to bring all of you this brief review, divided into two parts.

As this is an event for an underground subculture (better known as the "Geeks"), the entry of two of my colleagues and i, was a bit underground too, as is evident from the first images that document this fact in real life (don’t you ever think that i imagined it... =PPPPP). To begin i will say that i missed the presence of some interesting exhibitors (importers of collection figures), although there were others who managed different areas, which i think is "healthy", because for me the spice is in the variety. Also i found that the organization is been improved gradually and, although far from what someone would see in a "Comic-Con", it’s been given space to various local expression of this little crazy world in which insane people like us are involved.

An important part of creating a culture (or counterculture) is the assimilation of concepts, ideas, points of view from the outside, to experience them locally and achieve a self-identity (and i’m already sounding like an anthropologist...) I think these images are quite informative, but if any of my colleagues or visitors have questions, feel free to leave them in a comment at the end of this publication or use my chat gadget in the right side of this blog, below my gadget of followers (which is part of my campaign against the geek shyness) and i will solve them gladly... Shredded Hot Wheels Stars Series 17/24 (2007) Diecast by Hot Wheels

Cuando a Hot Wheels se le da por experimentar con el diseño de un vehículo (y ellos experimentan bastante...) en muchos casos el resultado deja la sensación de agotamiento creativo, en otros es simplemente un desastre sin gusto, pero hay otros casos en los que definitivamente da en el blanco con un diseño que fluye, que desafia, que se aparta de la realidad y la funcionalidad para deleitarnos con la extravagancia.

Lo sorprendente es que algunos íconos excéntricos de HW se basan en vehículos concepto reales, como el Deora I (basado en el Dodge Deora Concept 1967 que diseñó Harry Bentley Bradley y llevaron a la vida real los personalizadores Mike y Larry Alexander). Lástima que otros no hayan tenido esa suerte...

El que publico hoy, por ejemplo, sería un modelo que me encantaría ver en la realidad, pues sus líneas atrevidas y esquema de color rechinante me parecen fantásticos, es como la combinación de una lancha de alta velocidad y un auto Formula... Las extravagancias continuarán, pues el dueño de este blog es algo excéntrico HAHAHA... Ójala DIOS nos tenga con vida para una nueva cita la próxima semana (quizás con mi primer cubrimiento "periodístico" de un evento relacionado con la industria del entretenimiento, aquí en mi ciudad)... =)

When Hot Wheels wants to experiment with the design of a vehicle (and they experiment a lot...) in many cases the result leaves a sense of creative exhaustion, in others it’s simply a disaster without taste, but there are other cases which definitely hits the mark with a design that flows, that challenges, which depart from reality and functionality to delight with extravagance.

What is surprising is that some eccentric HW’s icons are based on real concept cars, as the Deora I (based on the 1967 Dodge Deora Concept designed by Harry Bentley Bradley and brought to real life by the customizers Mike and Larry Alexander). Too bad others haven’t had such luck...

The one i’m publishing today, for example, is a model which i would love to see in the reality, because its bold lines and creaky color scheme look fantastic for me, is like the combination of a high speed boat and a Formula car... The extravagances will continue, as the owner of this blog is a bit eccentric HAHAHA... May GOD keep us alive for a new appointment next week (perhaps with my first "journalistic" coverage of an event related with the entertainment industry, here in my city)... =)

Halo 3 Vehicles -Ghost- Series 1 (2008) by McFarlane Toys

Mi encuentro con Halo fue algo relativamente reciente, años después de su primer lanzamiento Halo Combat Evolved en 2001 y mi impresión al respecto se resume en: muy buenos gráficos, pero está algo lejos de capturar mi atención igual que... Digamos... Quake 2 ???... No estoy diciendo que el juego sea malo, no, pero resulta algo decepcionante que sea tan corto.

Ahora entiendo que el desarrollo de un juego requiere un enorme esfuerzo de un grupo interdisciplinario y normalmente hay una relación inversamente proporcional entre la calidad de los gráficos y la duración/cantidad de niveles disponibles. Como quería tener una vida, opté por jugar menos y coleccionar más (mejor para mi salud, peor para mi presupuesto HAHAHAHAHA) así que me decidí a conseguir estas réplicas en miniatura, como para no dejar a Halo en el cuarto del olvido...

McFarlane usó su llamémoslo "toque del rey Midas" para darle vida a estos vehículos y lo hizo con todas las de la ley. El Ghost es un vehículo aéreo/terrestre uni-personal de ataque rápido y liviano, con propulsión antigravitacional que logra aquí una excelente reproducción (con aproximadamente 4" de largo), llena de detalle, un rico trabajo de pintura y una base que le va perfecto. Gracias a DIOS aquí hay algo diferente cada semana, con un único hilo conductor: lo que ven, es lo que me gusta... Nos veremos la próxima... =)

My encounter with Halo was relatively recent, years after its first release Halo Combat Evolved in 2001 and my impression about it is summarized as: very good graphics, but is a bit too far to capture my attention like... Let’s say... Quake 2 ???... I’m not saying that the game is bad, no, but is somewhat disappointing that it’s so short.

Now i understand that the development of a videogame requires an enormous effort of an interdisciplinary team and there is usually an inverse relation between the quality of the graphics and the length/number of levels available. Wanting to get a life, i decided to play less and collect more (better for my health, worse for my budget HAHAHAHAHA) so i decided as well to get me these replicas in miniature, just to not leave Halo in the "room of oblivion"...

McFarlane used its let’s call it "king Midas’ touch" to bring to life these vehicles and did it "all legit". The Ghost is an air/ground one-man fast and light attack vehicle, with anti-gravity propulsion that achieves an excellent reproduction here (with approximately 4" long), filled with detail, a rich paint job and a stand base that fits it like a glove. Thank GOD there is here something different every week, with just one single threat: what you see, is what i like... See you next time... =)

1967 Plymouth Fury JL’s 40th Anniversary Series (2009) Diecast Scale 1:64 by Johnny Lightning

Me parece que Johnny Lightning ha hecho grandes esfuerzos por mantenerse vigente en diferentes frentes. A mediados de los 90’s, por ejemplo, luego de su reaparición y en asocio con William Winckler (escritor/productor de Hollywood) y Charles Barnett III (artista de libros de comic) tuvieron la estupenda idea de crear una línea de coleccionables que mezclaba un comic y un diecast, llamada "Las aventuras de Johnny Lightning". Por motivos que NO expondré aquí específicamente pues aún son materia de discusión, este proyecto fue cancelado a pesar de la gran expectativa que había generado. Es algo triste que por asuntos legales, los fanáticos de JL (me incluyo) tengamos que privarnos de elementos de colección tan deseables... Esta historia continuará...

Ahora hace su entrada triunfal (carnavalesca) un auto señorial y enooooooorme, un sedán familiar que también se ofreció en versión coupé (con algo más de músculos y estampa), un carro que en varias oportunidades le hizo honor a su denominación (pues algunos modelos realmente lucen feroces)... En otras palabras, el Plymouth Fury modelo 1967, que a mi modo de ver funcionaría perfecto como un "Low Rider".

Johnny Lightning lo incluyó en su serie 40 Aniversario, en una versión curiosa y sin embargo "apropiada"... Como auto que sin salvarse del deshuesadero, es echado como toro de lidia en medio de otros compañeros de batalla (carnicería metálica), es decir, como auto de derby de demolición. Triste destino para un carro, pero al menos a éste le queda el enorme consuelo de quedar bajo mi cuidado. Ya veremos que traerá la próxima semana, con la bendición del Todopoderoso... Nos vemos... =)

I think Johnny Lightning has made great efforts to stay current on different fronts. In the mid 90’s, for example, after its comeback and in association with William Winckler (Hollywood’s writer/producer) and Charles Barnett III (comic book artist) had the great idea of creating a line of collectibles that mixed a comic and a diecast called "The adventures of Johnny Lightning". For reasons i will NOT expose here specifically because they’re still matter of discussion, this project was canceled despite the high expectations generated. It’s sad that for legal issues JL’s fans (myself included) have to forego such desirable collectible items... To be continued...

Now makes its triumphal (carnival) entry a stately and huuuuuuuge car, a family sedan that was also offered as coupe (with more muscle and better looking), a car that several times lived up to its name (for some models really look fierce)... In other words, the 1967 Plymouth Fury, that in my opinion would work perfect as a "Low Rider".

Johnny Lightning included it in its 40th Anniversary series, in a curious version yet "proper"... As a car that without have been saved from the junkyard, is thrown like a bull in the midst of other sparring (metal carnage) partners, ie as a demolition derby car. Sad fate for a car, but at least this one has the great consolation of being under my care. We’ll see what next week brings, with the blessing of the Almighty... Seeya... =)

B•Daman Blasters Customizable Battle Figures Group 2 by Hasbro

Para la mayoría de personas, estas figuras no pasan de ser un elemento más o menos vistoso en una estantería, pero lo que ignoran es que aparte del valor y significado que tienen para un coleccionista, hay una cultura de juego detrás de ellas. La idea de introducir estos personajes y la estrategia de juego en 1993 fue ni más ni menos de Takara Tomy y se desarrolló inicialmente en Japón.

Hay numerosas formar de jugar (por lo menos 20), cada una con reglas más bien sencillas y requieren básicamente tres elementos: un B•Daman, una B•Daball y un blanco. Takara se ha encargado de organizar numerosos torneos en territorio nipón y posteriormente Hasbro en 2005 adquirió los derechos para manejar la franquicia en E.U.A. y Canadá.

Continuaré con más datos interesantes acerca de estas figuras en otras publicaciones, pero creo que lo que hasta ahora he publicado les permitirá tener una visión menos limitada de este fenómeno B•Daman y quizás empiecen a apreciar de otra manera estas piezas, como lo hago yo. Este grupo incluye: Wing Viper, Solar Rekuso y Sonic Khan. Aquí los estaré esperando la semana próxima, con la ayuda de DIOS... =)

For most of people, these figure are nothing more than an item more or less attractive on a shelf, but what they ignore is that, apart from the value and meaning for a collector, there is a game culture behind them. The idea of introducing these characters and game strategy in 1993 was from neither more nor less Takara Tomy and it was developed initially in Japan.

There are numerous ways to play (at least 20), each one with rather simple rules and requires basically three elements: a B•Daman, a B•Daball and a target. Takara has been responsible for organizing many tournaments on nippon territory and later Hasbro in 2005 acquired the rights to operate the franchise in the U.S.A. and Canada.

I will continue with more interesting facts about these figures in other publications, but i think that what i’ve posted so far will give all of you a less-limited vision about B•Daman’s phenomenon and perhaps you will appreciate these pieces differently, as i do. This group includes: Wing Viper, Solar Rekuso and Sonic Khan. I will be waiting here next week, with the help of GOD... =)

’49 Drag Merc HW Premiere Series 35/52 (2010) Diecast by Hot Wheels

Hay ciertas cosas que no puedo sacarme de la cabeza, porque fueron grabadas con fuertes dosis de violencia (gratuíta o justificada). Por ejemplo, la cinta Aliens El Regreso de 1986, que es para mí el NON PLUS ULTRA de todas las películas que haya visto.

O la persecución suicida de la cinta Cobra - El brazo fuerte de la ley (1986), con Silvester Stallone al volante de un "Awsom 50" más comúnmente conocido como Mercury Monterrey 1950. Creo que este auto y su conductor logran una increíble sinergia en cuanto a la rudeza de su carácter y una apariencia que dice: "Lárgate de mi vista escoria criminal o lamentarás haber respirado a 3 metros de mí"...

Ahhh, no puedo negar que una parte de mí añoraría ser un policía renegado, de muy malos modales y que conduzca una fiera como esta que Hot Wheels presenta aquí muy en su estilo exagerado, tomando un Muscle Car y convirtiéndolo en un Dragster (auto altamente modificado para competencias de 1/4 de milla). Me encanta su esquema de color (en especial el uso del dorado en vez del cromado) y su detallado trabajo de serigrafía. Estoy cumpliendo a cabalidad eso de que "este año iría sobre ruedas", pero autos no es lo único que verán aquí... Hasta la próxima semana y que DIOS nos bendiga... =)

There are certain things i cannot get out of my head, because they were carved with high doses of violence (gratuitous or justified). For example, the Aliens The Return movie (1986), which is for me the NE PLUS ULTRA of all the movies i’ve seen.

Or the suicidal chase of the film Cobra - The strong arm of the law (1986), with Silvester Stallone at the wheel of an "Awsom 50" more commonly known as 1950 Mercury Monterey. I think this car and its driver achieved an incredible synergy in terms of the harshness of their character and a look that says: "Get outta my sight criminal scum or ya’ll regret having breathed 3 feet away from me"...

Ohhh, i cannot deny that i would love to be a renegade cop, with very bad manners and leading a beast like this that Hot Wheels introduce here in its very exaggerated style, taking a Muscle Car and turning it into a Dragster (highly modified car for 1/4 mile competitions). I’m sold with its color scheme (specially the use of golden finish instead of chromed finish) and its detailed silkscreen job. I’m doing that of "this year would be on wheels", but not only cars you will see here... Until next week and may GOD bless us... =)

U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656 Star Trek Federation Ships & Alien Ships Collection Miniature Display Model by Furuta

Cada vez me sorprendo más por la gran cantidad de información que hay detrás de una pieza aparentemente genérica. Stark Trek, una franquicia archi-conocida tiene entre sus curiosidades una serie de TV emitida entre 1995 y 2001 (la cuarta serie desde la creación de la original en 1960) a la que pertenece la réplica en miniatura que publico hoy.

La historia relata la travesía de esta nave y su tripulación que al perseguir a otra nave rebelde de Maquis (organización paramilitar), resultan transportadas a 70.000 años luz de distancia del Cuadrante Alfa (donde comenzó la persecución)... Esto no resultaría muy "conmovedor" de no ser porque este inesperado "translado" (por cuenta de una fuerza alienígena llamada Caretaker) les implicaba un viaje de regreso de 75 años, con la tecnología terrestre disponible en el siglo 24.

La nave en sí pertenece a la Intrepid Class, una de las más avanzadas de la Federación de Planetas. Con aproximadamente 355 m de largo y 700,000 toneladas métricas de peso (en su hipotética versión real) no sería precisamente pequeña y sus características adicionales la hacen un verdadero crucero estelar multipropósito (la SUV del futuro ??? HAHAHAHA). Que el SEÑOR cuide de nosotros esta semana y nos veremos la semana entrante... =)

Every time i find myself more surprised for the large amount of information available behind an apparently generic piece. Stark Trek, an arch-known franchise has among its curiosities a TV series aired from 1995 to 2001 (the fourth series since the original creation in 1960) to which belongs the miniature replica published today.

The story chronicles the journey of this ship and its crew to pursue other rebel ship of Maquis (paramilitary organization), and they’re transported 70,000 light years away from the Alpha Quadrant (where the chase started)... This wouldn’t be very "moving" if not for the fact that this "transfer" (on behalf of an alien force called Caretaker) would imply a return trip of 75 years, with the terrestrial technology available in the 24th century.

The starship itself belongs to the Intrepid Class, one of the most advanced in the Federation of Planets. With aproximately 355 m long and 700,000 metric tons of weight (in its hypothetical actual version) wouldn’t be precisely tiny and its additional features make it a multipurpose stellar cruiser (the SUV of the future ??? HAHAHAHA). May the LORD take care of us this week and we have an appointment next week... =)

The Chronicles of Narnia -Prince Caspian- Centaur Glenstorm & Peepiceek Action Figures by Jakks Pacific / Play Along

Desde que el Señor de los Anillos hizo su aparición en 2001, las películas de fantasía épica ambientadas en la edad media ganaron una fuerza y aceptación increíble entre el público de todas las edades. Existían y tenían un buen grupo de seguidores desde hace un buen tiempo, pero esta cinta les dió gran visibilidad y las hizo atractivas (económicamente) para los grandes estudios de cine, por lo cual una andanada de películas con temática similar le siguieron con mayor o menor éxito.

Una de estas sagas es la de Las Crónicas de Narnia, que sin ser tan densa como el Señor de los Anillos, logra un resultado interesante aunque está enfocada a un público más jóven. Cuando el presupuesto escasea (y este hobby puede ser sumamente costoso !!!) un regalo inesperado puede mitigar el dolor (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA). Mi hermana mayor tuvo este detalle conmigo que agradezco públicamente, pues realmente complace mi exigente gusto.

Estas piezas de personajes mitológico/fantasticos son ricamente detalladas, con una trabajo de pintura a la altura de las mejores piezas de McFarlane y buena articulación. Jakks Pacific para mí tiene un gran valor como fabricante de juguetes y estas figuras son prueba de ello... Que DIOS tenga misericordia de nosotros y nos vemos la próxima semana =)

Since the Lord of the Rings made its appearance in 2001, the epic fantastic films set in the Middle Age gained incredible strength and acceptance among the public of all ages. They existed and had a group of fans for quite some time, but this film gave them high visibility and make them attractive (financially) for the major movie studios, so a barrage of similar-themed movies followed it with more or less success.

One of those sagas is the Chronicles of Narnia, which while not as dense as the Lord of the Rings, achieved an interesting result, but is aimed to younger audiences. When the budget is scarce (and this hobby can be extremely expensive !!!) an unexpected gift can relieve the pain (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA). My older syster had this gesture with me that i thank publicly.

These pieces of mythological/fantastic characters are richly detailed, with a paint job to match the best pieces from McFarlane and a good level of articulation. Jakks Pacific to me is invaluable as toys’ manufacturer and these figures are a proof of that... May GOD have mercy upon us and see you next week =)

Dodge Viper SRT-10 Hurst 2008 JL’s 40th Anniversary Series (2009) Diecast Scale 1:64 by Johnny Lightning

Para empezar, una nueva píldora de la historia de Johnny Lightning que dejé en remojo desde la anterior publicación... Luego del prolongado hiato en el que esta marca desapareció del mapa desde 1971, Playing Mantis adquirió los derechos para producir los diecast de JL en 1994. Por aquel tiempo, Hot Wheels introdujo una línea "vintage" con reproducciones de modelos de los años 60. Creo que desde esa época, JL se enfocó en un público adulto, produciendo modelos con mayor nivel de detalle y realismo, distanciándose de sus competidores y creando un nicho de mercado... Esta historia continuará...

Y ahora puedo regodearme en este pequeño monstruo... Señoras y señores, lo que tienen frente a sus ojos es un Dodge Viper SRT-10 (Hurst), que en la vida real es toda una bestia sobre ruedas, pero no cualquiera, no, sino una que HURST Performance Vehicle Group transformó en una bestia mucho peor (mejor!!!). A lo que me refiero es que su desempeño "normal", gracias a un motor V-10 de aluminio con 8.4 litros de desplazamiento, 600 hp y 560 libras/pie de torque, que hace 0-60 mph en menos de 4 seg, fue AUMENTADO a cifras no reveladas. A esto hay que añadir un hermoso esquema de color en dorado mate con líneas negras brillantes, rines de 19/20" en aluminio pulido e interior personalizado.

De este superauto se hicieron apenas 50 unidades para celebrar el aniversario 50 de HURST. La primera de esas unidades fue comprada en subasta por la no despreciable suma de U$275,000. Pienso que esto es suficiente para hacer de este auto algo especial y Johnny Lightning para celebrar su aniversario 40, lo incluyó en una serie especial de 12 vehículos que pulverizaron mi voluntad de NO adquirir más vehículos diecast... Los espero aquí la próxima semana y que DIOS cuide de nosotros... =)

Just to begin, a new pill of the Johnny Lightning’s history that i soaked since the last publication... After the long hiatus in which the brand disappeared from the map since 1971, Playing Mantis has acquired the rights to produce the JL’s diecast in 1994. At that time, Hotwheels introduced a "vintage" line with reproductions of the 60’s models. I think since that time, JL focused on the adult audience, producing models with greater detail and realism, distancing itself from its competitors and created a niche market... To be continued...

And now i can delight in this little monster... Ladies and gentlemen, what you have in front of your eyes is a Dodge Viper SRT-10 (Hurst), which in the real life is quite a beast on wheels, but not any of them, no, but one that HURST Performance Vehicle Group transformed in a much worse (better!!!) beast. What i mean is that its "normal" performance, thanks to a 8.4 liter V-10 aluminium engine, that produces 600 hp and 560 lb/ft of torque, and claims to make 0-60 mph in less than 4 seconds, was INCREASED to unrevealed numbers. To this you must add a beautiful color scheme with flat gold and glossy black racing stripes, 19/20" wheels in polished aluminium and a custom interior.

50 units of this supercar were produced to celebrate the 50th anniversary of HURST. The first of these units was purchased at auction for the not inconsiderable sum of U$275,000. I think this is enough to make this car something special and Johnny Lightning to celebrate its 40th anniversary, included it in a special series of 12 vehicles that pulverized my will of NOT purchase more diecast cars... I hope all of you will be here next week and may GOD takes care of us... =)

B•Daman Blasters Customizable Battle Figures Group 1 by Hasbro

Normalmente, como coleccionista, trato de ser coherente en cuanto a que las figuras que consigo sean de series de animé, cómic o películas que me gusten... Pero la coherencia nunca a sido una camisa de fuerza para hacer lo que considero que vale la pena. Por ejemplo, B•Daman es una serie de anime que NO puede gustarme pues está creada para preadolescentes y su temática, diálogos, etc., son algo pueriles para mi gusto. No obstante, las figuras que se produjeron con base en esta serie son caso aparte.

Se trata de piezas en resina y PVC que vienen como model kits (sí, leyeron bien...) más bien sencillos, con entre 4 y 6 runners o árboles de piezas. Uno de estos runners corresponde al B•Daman en sí, mientras los otros contienen las piezas de la armadura externa y el sistema de disparo. Este grupo incluye: Chrome Zephyr, Jade Breaker, Lightning Khan y Caution Buster. En esta ocasión seré algo escueto, pues habrá más B•Damanes así que sigan conectados, pues si DIOS permite habrá algo más la próxima semana... =)

Normally, as a collector, i try to be consistent with this: the figures i get are from anime, comic series or movies that i like... But consistency was never a straitjacket for what i consider worthwhile. For example, B•Daman is an anime series that can’t be my cup of coffee because it was created for tweens and its themes, dialogues, etc., are somewhat childish for my taste. However, the figures based on this series are a special case.

These pieces of resin and PVC come as model kits (yep, you read that right...) rather simple, with between 4 and 6 runners.
