Share folder between Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 14.04 via samba

This topic shows the way how to share a folder from guest Ubuntu 14.04 of VMware to Windows 8.1 (other version also) while shared folder functions of VMware getting problems.

Step 1: Update Ubuntu 14.04

sudo apt-get update

Step 2: Install samba

sudo apt-get install -y samba samba-common python-glade2 system-config-samba

Step 3: Altering samba configuration

In terminal, type:

sudo vi /etc/samba/smb.conf

Scrolling down to workgroup, change WORKGROUP (default) to your host Windows group

Then go to end of smb.conf file and add a folder to share.

Example, I share folder named sharedfolder:

Restart the samba with following command:

sudo service smbd restart

Now your host computer will see the Ubuntu name (in my situation is sukata). And you can use this shared folder for both machines.

** Note:
- You need to set mode of sharedfolder to 777
- Host computer and guest computer should are same in the network. In my case, I setting VMware use bridge connection with the real computer.

Mini2440 web server and IP Camera

Access local web server through LAN Network

By default, web server is installed in board.

After setting IP address for board (come to "Network setting" on touch screen), internal web can be access through local network

Note: By default, default port is 80 (not 8090 as in following picture, to edit port, come to file /etc/boa/boa.conf), to test it, type: 192.168.1.230:80

Those web are saved in /www/ in board. Default program in this web is controlling the LED in board, let's try to do some setting in web and see how LED blinking changed in board.

Through this web, application in board can be accessed through LAN Network. or even Internet.

Access local web server through internet

1. Open port (port forwarding)

Come to router by default address 192.168.1.1, user: Admin, pass: Admin

Configure as this

Another kind of router maybe will have another way, but same principle

This case:

Port 8090 is chosen to be opened, so the setting port in board also should be changed in file /etc/boa/boa.conf (don't choose common port, because it is used for another application in PC)

192.168.1.230 is board IP Address, the board must be set this address

After opening port, to test it is opened or not, come to web page that can test it online

For example, come to http://portchecker.co/ to check port

2. Open web from internet

That's all. Now come to another PC (that not in LAN Network with board) connected to internet to test it, just type external IP Address with port: 222.253.211.101:8090

The web will be loaded same as in Local Network.

Note: External IP Address and Internal IP Address are different, Google it to find definition of them.

3. IP Camera
The default web server in Mini2440 can't use camera
Another way is get MJPStream Mini2440 project from following link
In the project:
* un-comment the content "PLUGINS += output_http.so" in "Make" file
* Change port from 8080 to 8090 in file "mjpg_streamer.c"
Then, cross-compile it
After all, download to board
Stop default web server:
$/etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd stop

Connect USB-Camera to board, run project by command:
$./start.sh

Currently, you can connect to my camera via address: 222.254.224.227:8090

Mini2440 minicom settings

This procedure show how to connect Mini2440 to Linux Ubuntu through USB-COM Converter cable

Step 1. Install minicom
$apt-get install minicom

Step 2. Power on mini2440, plug in USB-COM Converter cable into PC. Check if PC recognize cable or not
$dmesg | grep tty

Remember COM-Port name, this case is ttyUSB0

Step 3. Configure minicom setting
$sudo minicom -s

Make a setting exact as above picture

Press "Enter" and choose "Save setup as dfl"

Step 4. Connect to Mini2440 by typing:

$minicom

Control leds on mini2440 by a Qt Creator's program

Mini2440 board has four leds that is used to indicate the status of the board. Normally, the leds will run when led service is loaded. However, we can use command to stop or restart that led service, they are:
$/etc/rc.d/init.d/leds stop
(after this command, leds will stop blinking)

$/etc/rc.d/init.d/leds start
(after this command, leds will start blinking)
I wrote a QtCreator's program that passes those two commands by pressing button, the leds will stop or start running then. The source code of that program can be found at link here.

boot mini2440 via NFS

Share files with NFS

NFS stands for Network File System, which allows host PC can share data to mini2440 board and vice versa. It is extremely comfortable when you develop program because you don't need using SD-Card, or FTP way to copy data from host PC to mini2440 board.
NFS will help you make a folder of mini2440 but in your host PC. It means that, you copy file into folder in host PC, the file will immediately exist in mini2440 board.

Code for X35 Sony Screen of mini2440

Hi there. X35 screen of mini2440 seems not to be supported by default kernel, so we have to re-built it by our own. This article I will show the way to build Android Kernel for mini2440 which has X35 screen.

I suppose your Android Kernel is in directory "/usr/local/android/kernel"

1. # cd /usr/local/android/kernel
# cd drivers/video/
# gedit Kconfig

install android for mini2440

Hello. After installing successful android into mini2440 board yesterday, I would love to share what I have done even it is quiet easy. If you already knew the process porting linux for mini2440 (if not? You should look here), it will be very easy to install android for it because you just replace kernel (zImage) and file system.
You are impatient and want to see how android run on your mini2440 right now? No problem, just download kernel and file system here, then install it as you installed linux on mini2440 before. I think I should summarize install routine again. First, turn switch S2 near the word NOR (or near the edge), then open dnw and Hyper Terminal in windowXP. You should format NAND memory first with [x] and [f] option; after that, choose [v] to load super vivi or vboot, then choose [k] to load zImage_android (as name in file downloaded above), and lastly select [y] to port mini2440T35_android.img (as name in file downloaded above). Okay, it is done now. Reset the board and have fun with android (However, in my opinions, there is no funny with android except sliding as in iPhone). And one more thing, you should use some buttons on mini2440 board to exit applications or something like that (Using buttons make me have to unscrew screen, I do not like this at all, I would love my mini2440 in one block).

Programming application for mini2440 by Qt creator

Applications for mini2440 can easily be programmed by using Qt creator installed on Ubuntu. The harsh problem you should overcome is reading some books about programming Qt to be able to make some more complicated applications.
Right now, I will show you build a "hello world" program by Qt creator. Firstly, you should install Qt creator. Then, opening Qt creator to make a simple program "hello world". And lastly, copying it from host computer (Ubuntu) to mini2440.

Upgrade Qt4.6.2 in mini2440

After day by day searching code from many forums, I lastly did compile Qt4.6.2 successfully on my Ubuntu 10.04. After that work, 'fluid program' run perfectly on the mini2440 board. Also, my own programs which are written in QtCreator could run on the board (I will write the instructions on later article)
And now, the way of upgrading Qt4.6.2 in mini2440 is listed below.
At first, you should have general view of the work:
1. tslib compilation
2. Qt4.6.2 compilation
3. Copy library of tslib and Qt4.6.2 into mini2440 board.
4. Configure the environment in mini2440 board.
5. Run Qt example program.

Back up and restore mini2440

Sometimes you want to save your whole system for reserving like ghost image of windowXP. Whenever the system on mini2440 is ruin, you simply restore it and run again. This way is easier to load the system again instead of installing. In addition, it will save the program that you put in the system.

Make file backup of mini2440
Toggle S2 into NOR side
Connect USB, comport from board to PC, open DNW tool and Hyper Terminal
In Hyper Terminal, press 'u' key to make file back up. After that, click on DNW: USB Port> Backup NAND Flash to File, write the name file and wait (about 8 minutes)

Install Linux into mini2440 board

Connect the board with the computer.

After receiving the board from manufacturer, it has already Linux OS on target board. However, we should know how to install it for the case the OS is ruin. I used laptop that installed WindowXP to connect with the mini2440 board.

Step1: Connect comport from mini2440 board to laptop.
Because the laptop does not have comport, we use com-usb adapter.
