Most of us are aware that recently India has announced a symbol for their currency Rupee. Government is in talks with IT companies and hardware manufacturers so that it can be incorporated in software's, mobile phones and keyboards etc. Definitely this process is gonna take some time.

For the people who doesn't want to wait that long can start using new rupee symbol right now. Just download the font developed by Fordian Technologies. Its convenient to use and easy to download.

Download the Rupee font (.ttf file) and install in your system fonts folder (mostly C:\Windows\Fonts)
Select “Rupee” font from the drop down list of your fonts in your application
The grave acent symbol – ` (the key just above “tab” button in your keyboard) is used to type the new Rupee symbol.

Now you can start using latest Indian currency rupee symbol.

Finally after 18 months i am returning to Blogging.In these 18 months lot of things have changed. For me its a college to corporate journey. When i started blogging at that i was anengineering student. Now i am an employee of a IT major in India. How to download full books from Google book in a single click

When we read or search books at Google Books then we found that it provides an easy way to search books and magazines that have been scanned by Google but there is a problem with that, the books and magazines can be viewed online but there is no direct way to download the whole book at the same time though it is possible to save the single page that is being displayed to the local computer but that would mean that it is available in html format with an extra folder for additional elements which is not really handy.

That can be very frustrating for user to save page by page foe downloading a whole book but now there is a better alternative for this.There is a software program Google Books Downloader that can be used to download parts or entire books in pdf format. The process requires some manual work on part of the user. Books and magazines are identified by an unique ID which is displayed in the address bar. That unique ID has to be copied and pasted into the software. Everything else is done automatically by the software. The program will scan all pages of the selected book or magazine and display all pages in its interface.

Each page can be selected for download separately which is useful if only selected parts of the book or magazine should be downloaded. The other option available is to download the full book or magazine right away to the local computer.

Future of USB, USB 3.0 looks promising

USB has been very significant invention in computer industry.It has changed a lot about devices connect to each other or to computer.This time we are talking about USB 3.0, which is expected to be in our hands only by early 2010. USB 2.0 has a theoretical maximum speed of 480Mbps and can provide power. USB 3.0 cable is thicker than the USB 2.0 cable as it contains six wires rather than two. In this post you will find basic details about what you have to know about USO 3.0.

By the time we get the device in our hands we would have waited almost 10 years. According to the USB implementers forum there were 2 billion USB 2.0 devices shipped in 2006 (one for every three people in the world), and the install base was 6 billion (almost one for every person in the world).

USB 3.0 specs suggest a maximum speeed of 5Gbps, 10 times faster than USB 2.0. The new version of USB is also capable to work in full duplex mode, full duplex is - it can upload and download simultaneously. [USB 2.0 is only half duplex]

USB 3.0 features an intelegent power management system. It could detect a device is not in working state and can reduce the amount of power it will send to the device. This directly increases the battery life. A welcome move for Laptop users.

USB 3.0’s new architecture will still use more CPU time ? I really dont have an answer to it.

Now come the problem, we have to wait long for Hardware manufacturers to build this into the system for us to use it. Thats not an easy move. [USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 are not compatible devices, you need new hardware]

On a pesonal note I have never seen USB 2.0 deliver the speed it has promised. So I really dont know how much to rely on the claims made about USB 3.0

Having said all this here is the comparison about the speeds of different USB’s

Transfer of a 25GB HD movie:

* USB 1.0 - 9.3 hours
* USB 2.0 - 13.9 minutes
* USB 3.0 - 70 seconds

USB 3.0 is expected to hit the market only by 2010. So when will our device makers start using the same in their hardwares ? My best guess would be by 2012 and not all makes will direcly adopt to USB 3.0 so fast.

Microsoft closes windows 7 beta public downloads

In last many years after windows xp Microsoft has not seen much success in operating system segment but this time it looks that windows 7 is going to do the trick for them. In December last year they put beta of windows 7 for public download with a limit of 2.5 million users for the public beta, but later offered unlimited downloads due to popular demand, only to then see its servers wilt under the pressure.

And now the software giant put out a reminder late on Monday that those who wanted to play around with the beta, AKA build 7000, of its upcoming operating system had nearly run out of time to, at least officially, grab the download via Microsoft’s website. However, those who began downloading the beta but haven’t yet completed the process were granted a little extension – they have until 9am PST on 12 February to finish the download.

Though internet users can still download windows 7 beta from torrents like piratebay .

A single slash forced Google to mark whole internet as malware

If you did a Google search between 6:30 a.m. PST and 7:25 a.m. PST this morning, you likely saw that the message “This site may harm your computer” accompanied each and every search result as seen in the above image even if the result include Google's site itself.This is was unbelievable Google was marking or flagging the whole internet as malware.And when you click on the message it was taking people to a support page from Google,it pointed to StopBadware.org.

This error lasts approximately 40 minutes so most of users might not have seen this and remain unaffected by this but such kind of error on worlds biggest search engine can't be neglected.when Google tried to find out what was the reason the they found that a single slash ( / ) was the main culprit.This single slash forced Google to flag each and every site displayed in its result as Malware. Here is Google's official statement about this.

If you did a Google search between 6:30 a.m. PST and 7:25 a.m. PST this morning, you likely saw that the message “This site may harm your computer” accompanied each and every search result. This was clearly an error, and we are very sorry for the inconvenience caused to our users.
What happened? Very simply, human error. Google flags search results with the message “This site may harm your computer” if the site is known to install malicious software in the background or otherwise surreptitiously. We do this to protect our users against visiting sites that could harm their computers. We work with a non-profit called StopBadware.org to get our list of URLs. StopBadware carefully researches each consumer complaint to decide fairly whether that URL belongs on the list. Since each case needs to be individually researched, this list is maintained by humans, not algorithms.

We periodically receive updates to that list and received one such update to release on the site this morning. Unfortunately (and here’s the human error), the URL of ‘/’ was mistakenly checked in as a value to the file and ‘/’ expands to all URLs. Fortunately, our on-call site reliability team found the problem quickly and reverted the file. Since we push these updates in a staggered and rolling fashion, the errors began appearing between 6:27 a.m. and 6:40 a.m. and began disappearing between 7:10 and 7:25 a.m., so the duration of the problem for any particular user was approximately 40 minutes.

Thanks to our team for their quick work in finding this. And again, our apologies to any of you who were inconvenienced this morning, and to site owners whose pages were incorrectly labelled. We will carefully investigate this incident and put more robust file checks in place to prevent it from happening again.

Yet another google service closed,this time Web accelerator

Over the past few years we have seen many Google services that has been either closed or they are not further supported by Google like Google answer and lot more.Some of them were Google lab products and was in there beta while they were shut down.This time it is Google Web Accelerator.

Last year, Google removed the download link from Google Web Accelerator's homepage which indicated that the product is no longer supported. Web Accelerator was a Labs experiment launched in 2005 that intended to speed up web browsing by prefetching content and downloading cached web pages from Google's servers.Though it was criticized by many users who don't have unlimited bandwidth connections since it fetches the webpage in advance although user might not be interested in that webpage hence increases their bandwidth uses.

Google Web Accelerator uses various strategies to make your web pages load faster, including:

* Sending your page requests through Google machines dedicated to handling Google Web Accelerator traffic.
* Storing copies of frequently looked at pages to make them quickly accessible.
* Downloading only the updates if a web page has changed slightly since you last viewed it.
* Prefetching certain pages onto your computer in advance.
* Managing your Internet connection to reduce delays.
* Compressing data before sending it to your computer.

Web Accelerator became famous for a security problem: the software transferred unencrypted cookies to Google servers, which were cached and then sent to other Web Accelerator users. Even though the issue was fixed in the next releases, Google Web Accelerator was quickly forgotten and few people noticed that it didn't work well in Firefox 3 and it blocked YouTube videos.

Officially Windows 7 will be launched with the next media player version 12.Till then no windows version or update will not contain windows media player version 12.But if you are a windows media player fan then you can download version 12 and run it on Windows Vista only.Its not available as a separate download but it had been extracted from Windows 7 builds and works on Vista.This does not work in XP but you are a geek u can modify it to run on xp.

Few days back i got a MP3 ring tone from my friend that was very nice but the problem was that it was not loud enough means that even when my phone volume was set to maximum level,this ring tone was not so loud that i can detect or feel its sound in crowdy place.Because of this some of my incoming calls remain unnoticed.So i think of increasing it loudness,for this i downloaded some tools from Internet like sony soundforge but since i don't know anything about sound editing and tools were highly complicated and having many many options so i failed many times and finally give up.

At that time i changed the ring tone and used a loud ring tone.But what would you do if you have any custom mp3 files or a file which has no replacement ? How would i increase the volume and make the mp3 file sound louder without much knowledge of sound editing?

Worst beginning of year for John Travolta,teenage son dies in Bahamas

Thousand of people might have wished Oscar-nominated Hollywood actor John Travolta a happy new year but i am sure that he couldn't have a worse opening of the year.His teenage son died after a seizure while the family was vacationing in Bahamas, the US media reported on Saturday.The 16-year-old Jett was the only son of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, also an actress. The couple also have an eight-year-old daughter, Ella.

The boy hit his head after a seizure on Friday morning, but the exact cause of death is not known, according to Travolta's attorney Michael Ossi."At this point, we know that John Travolta and Kelly Preston's only son, Jett, had a seizure at around 10 am," Ossi said. "All attempts to revive him were unsuccessful."

An autopsy will be conducted on Monday and the body will be transferred to Ocala in Florida for burial, he said.Jett's death "was completely out of the blue," Ossi said, adding "....this is the worst day of John's life."

Most of internet users visits Wikipedia very often and it has evolved as a great source of knowledge sharing for internet user.Wikipedia receives almost 7 billion page views per month on an average.This much of request demands good infrastructure and maintenance.This is done by Wikimedia foundation,the non-profit organization behind the Wikipedia.

They always require funds for this but the Wikimedia Foundation has always declined to run advertising on its pages.Given that it is one of the most popular destinations on the Internet, it could surely make more than their requirements, but the organization, and Jimmy Wales in particular, have always vehemently rejected this idea in favor of direct donations from users. That's why you see an appeal on wikipedia "your donations keep wikipedia moving". and they always get that amount they decide.

The Wikimedia Foundation,has just announced that it has reached its fundraising goal for 2008, which will allow the foundation to cover its operating expenses for the current fiscal year, ending June 30, 2009. Overall, a total of 125,000 donors gave over $6.2 million during 2008, though in December alone, after a personal appeal from Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, 50,000 individuals contributed more than $2 million.

According to Jimmy Wales, these donations will be used to pay for the day-to-day operations of the Wikimedia Foundation, including the costs of hosting and bandwidth, as well as the salary of its small staff of only 23 people. The Wikimedia foundation will also use these funds to support outreach events like the Wikipedia Academies and to help its volunteer community.

1. Cybersearch - This is customizable Google searches in your firefox awesome Bar? Yes, It is very nice ! 2. LastPass - I used to use KeePass, but I just like LastPass better. 3. FEBE - As with anything else on your computer, it's never a bad idea to back up your Firefox install. 4. AdBlock Plus:- I don't really use AdBlock because I hate advertisements, but because I don't like waiting for web pages to load. 5. DownThemAll - When a friend first showed me DTA a few years ago, I couldn't believe I was still just using FF2's built-in manager. DTA rocks, and ofcourse it is in my list of Top 10 free download managers . It's simply one of the best download managers out there.

6. OpenItOnline - I don't do enough work with Office-type documents anymore to warrant installing a suite on my laptop. OpenItOnline lets me send DOC, XLS, and all the other supported file types to ZohoViewer for perusal instead of downloading them. It supports all Zoho and Google Docs apps to open files.

9. Web Of Trust - Web Of Trust is a great way to keep yourself out of malware trouble. I think I'm a pretty responsible surfer, but I don't know the reputation of every site on the Internet. Sooner or later age is the factor that affects every sportsman and till this date no sportsman had ever cheated this truth successfully.Now it seems age is catching up with the 33-year-old soccer star David Beckham, who was left gasping for breath while training with AC Milan.The former England skipper was left so out of breath that he could barely stand up after taking part in a gruelling training session with his fellow team mates, the Daily Mail reported.

A concerned medic even forced the footballer to get his pulse checked.Beckham was on practice session on New Year's Eve in Dubai ahead of a friendly match with German giants Hamburg SV on January 6. He is with currently with AC Milan, which has taken him on loan from LA Galaxy.
