Let it snow… We are having a very white “ day after” Christmas snow ! Here is my crepe myrtle covered in snow which looks alot like Carolina cotton to me . What do ya’ll think ? The lights in the picture are a reflection from my Christmas tree – What a wonderful way to spend the day .

My favorite gift this year, A christmas vacation keepsake ornament … It lights up and sings when Clark connects the lights – My favorite movie of all time by far… My in laws know me well !

And a lil’ joke for my husband. His parents told him leading up to Christmas that he was going to get a bass boat , well in a way he did although in keepsake form…We love sentiment ornaments

last but not least Santa brought divabelle a puppy of the best kind… Her name is “ sweet pea” and we heart her !

Hope all of you my sweet , dear friends had a wonderful Christmas and if you are snowed in like me I hope you have a day filled with gingerbread lattes, movies and lots of snuggles with the family !!

Have I ever mentioned how much I adore designing birthday parties. I am not sure what happened to me but after little ladybug was born I become completely in love with all party ideas. Confession- I spend way too much time in blog land party dreaming. My favorite go-to party blog is design dazzle.

My party obsession started when I was planning ladybug’s first birthday party. See the details here if you missed it ! That lead to helping my neighbor create a carnival party for her 5 boys …visit the carnival fun here in all it’s glory now my friend is having me create her husband’s 40th birthday party complete with a steel drum band !!! Oh and did I mention the Cookies and Milk baby shower that I hosted for a neighbor? Can you see how my life has become one big party –ha,ha:)

Sitting here with my neighbor talking about how much we miss blogging. I really do miss all of you ! I am so sorry I have been gone for awhile, a long while , too long :) I have been running three websites and to be honest it kind of took hold and wouldn't let go. Not to mention- Major writers block !! Although many of you are part of southern mommas and the southern marketplace I just miss writing.

and whatever strikes my fancy along the way. I have been having such an amazing Christmas season so far . We went Christmas caroling this weekend with my church to the nursing homes . It was so fun since it started snowing before we went. It never snows in NC so I felt like it was a little gift from God to make our experience even more "Christmasy" , if that is even a word.

As for the moments in between the hustle and bustle I have been working on some graphic design to update our church website, my blog, and my sister's new business. Ya'll know it is my favorite thing to do :) I feel like the wind has finally hit my sails as the fly lady says. She says to have your sails ready so that when the God breezes blow through you are " ready to go".

Well, my dears I was ready to jump in and help with the all the design stuff because I had been playing around with it on my blog and websites for the last year. When God came calling and needed me to step in for the church websites- I was ready. He had been preparing me all along. Sometimes I would get discouraged and wonder why am I doing all of this ? Well, his plan was much different than mine. He knew all along that I needed to learn how to make banners, buttons, facebook pages and all that fun stuff so that I could help with our church and spreading his word. I have also been meeting the most wonderful Christian women through web world . Here is a little banner I made for our website . Having so much fun !

I am so thankful to all of you who have stuck around and knew that I would eventually make it back. Life gets crazy, time gets short but I love, love blogging. After all , My writing journey started with sweet tea and biscuits . It feels like home and I'm finally making it back. Hopefully not just a Christmas visit but really coming home to stay for a while and snuggle in on the couch with a cup of gingerbread coffee and my favorite friends. What has really helped me is having some of you dear southern bloggers write for the southern mommas site. I was feeling like I couldn't do it all and be a good mom to my two year old. She is so sweet but a handful these days. It is so hard trying to juggle all the life has to bring and be the parent you always dreamed you could be. I try to take it a day at a time and embrace the fact that yes , this year I am not going to have the perfectly decorated house ( yes, pumpkins are still in the yard) but I am glowing knowing that divabelle is learning about " baby Jesus" , excited about her "tickle baby" that santa is bringing and lighting up everytime she sees our Christmas tree that she helped decorate . Love ya'll and glad to be back !

Heavy Set

For those of us from here in the south, I was one of those little girls that was well , heavy set , as they say ... Heck, who am I kidding I'm probably still what some would call big boned , heavy set or " takes after her mommas side of the family " . Well, bless my big boned heart :)

When you are a HS child you really don't know anything about dieting or why you are the way you are - It never really occurs to you that you can make a change and stop the teasing. At some point along the way you just come to accept that you are ( without a shadow of a doubt) the biggest little girl at the pool in the one piece bathing suit while your friends sport the latest and greatest two piece hot pink OP suit from the local Belks.

It never occurs to you why your aunt takes the other girls shopping as a treat but takes you to eat . As a small child my nickname was taters - A name I just knew would stick for life from about third grade on . Then something wonderful happened the summer before sixth grade . Looking back - it was the turning point I needed but I never knew what hit me until after the summer was over . I went back to school healthy and slim - I am sure in today's world people would have thought my lil' fifth grade body went through liposuction or something very hollywoodish like that . In fact it was granny , as always ,who saved the day after I had been teased one too many times . Granny was never one to make me feel bad. If I wanted to sit at her table and take down eight homemade biscuits , well um let's just say she happily obliged, but granny also knew my heart and hurts .

She would always say that I " wore my heart on my sleeve ". Boy did I ever - especially around her . I pretty much held nothing back. That being said she loved me enough to trick me . She wouldn't sit me down and say " honey maybe you need to loose a few pounds "no way "..

Granny instead decided that the fifth grade summer would be the year that she needed my help to get her in shape because of her heart condition. I am still very sure this was never the case but none the less she made sure we spent that long, hot summer walking each and every night after dinner . She never missed a night and always said she needed my company . Our menu changed too - salads for lunch with her special dressing ( I could drink the stuff by the gallon these days ) , artificial sugar in the tea , and somehow seconds were no longer served . It never once felt like a diet but instead as I was getting in shape and I was also getting time to walk and talk with granny . I will never forget those days or the sweet way she never once let on that it was for me and not for her . Got to love her :) Pretty sure it wasn’t her favorite way to spend each night in the hot summer heat but my granny taught me alot that summer about just getting up , putting my tennis shoes on and get to walkin ‘ :)

Ol' Fashioned Sun Tea

As I poured the water into my little electric tea maker ( gasp) I began thinking about the best tea on the planet - Granny's tea ! Was it so much better because she made it or did she really have the secret to true southern tea ?? I racked my brain about the things that made it so wonderful and refreshing ....

I recalled that it was always poured over ice, fresh from a glass jar , still warm to the touch. With her long skinny fingers she would get a silver spoon out of the drawer and add a few heaping spoonfuls of sugar. Great detail was taken in making each individual glass to the person's liking. Some of us liked little ice , others not as much sugar . Each glass was made with love and as a child I felt like royalty that she took the time to make my special glass. No mass produced tea at her house, that was for sure ! I thought back as to how I could create the magic and realized that she always made

"Sun Tea"

Simple, simple but oh so good - 6 bags in a 2 qt. glass carafe with lid. Put in the sun for about 5 hours . Granny always started her tea around lunch time so it would be ready for supper at six o'clock sharp. There was never a day that went by that she didn't have her little carafe sitting on the stoop of the back porch. We never really checked on it but we just knew it would be ready when she called us in from playing to fill the glasses with ice and set the table. Her carafe looked something more like this with a thin gold lid-

I was so excited to find the exact one when I was setting up my new online store - " Southern Fried Gifts" . I'm gonna try to find us some classic southern stuff ladies :) Anyway back to the yummy sun tea -

A lil’ Shindig!

This weekend we had lil’ diva-belle’s second birthday party . We also had the party with my nephew who turned eight . The combo of the two parties resulted in a Justin Beiber / Blue’s Clues party. It was a Hoot – let me just tell ya’ll ! It was literally 102 degrees with a heat index of about 110 and humidity of the inside of a wet rag. The party was supposed to be outside but we had to regroup and have it inside – kids, babies, pets included . So 20 + adults, kids, toddlers , presents and decorations later the shindig began ( inside of my very clean , just listed house , but that’s another story – Ha ! ) -

The birthday boy and girl wanted to open presents first – go figure ! So we all piled into the living room to let the madness begin -

I can’t believe you are turning two today ! I love that you are walking around the house naming off who is coming to your blues clues birthday party and laughing about the fact that you can hold up your two lil’ fingers and let everyone know how big you are going to be :)

look how much you have grown in just one year ! Amazing how many things have changed in the last 365 days .

You for sure have hit the terrible twos thus the “diva-belle” term was created but at the same time it amazes me how fast your lil’ mind works . A few highlights of what you are into these days

- Pool – You are so proud that you can go down the big slide all by yourself

- Coloring – Not always on paper but we are working on that :)

Grilled Trout in bacon, secure with toothpicks. Dip both sides of the fish in olive oil & sprinkle with lemon pepper. Grill till bacon is done

Bacon Wrapped Asparagus Spears
Wrap small handfuls of cleaned asparagus spears about (6-8 spears) in 1 piece of bacon. The bacon will cover the majority of the spear. Marinate in Dale's Sauce for about 30 minutes. Grill on top rack over medium heat for about 15 minutes

Once again ladies Mom Made That has made it possible for me to meet a wonderful , creative person in bloggy world ! If you haven't checked out Mom Made That I would highly suggest headin' on over there and giving it a try - It is one of my favorite sites out there .

This time they introduced me to the very talented Sara Rubendall who created a new header and logo for my southern mommas site . Looky, looky what she did -

Don't ya'll just love it ! I have been wanting something like this for a long time :) Sara was great to work with - She listened to what I really wanted and answered all my questions quickly. I couldn't have asked for a better designer to work with on this project . Sara's main focus is Etsy shoppes but she is so talented that I would recommend her work for websites, blogs , you name it - I'm pretty sure she can help you out. Here are a few other examples of some packages she offers ( For a steal may I add ) , seriously she is working for pennies :)

Country Bob's Sauce

Sometimes being a southern blogger has it's perks ! Somehow in the vast world of bloggers I was contacted by this wonderful company called

I still have no idea how they found me but after receiving the product in the mail I was thrilled to see right on then and there that " Christ is our CEO" on all their brochures - They go on to say on their website that:

" It would be nice if we could claim responsibility for the success of the company, however, credit must be given where credit is due. Proverbs 16:3 says, "Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and your plans will succeed." We have placed true ownership of Country Bob, Inc. in the hands of God. Christian and country - Ya'll better beleive I wanted to try this stuff ! It was amazing how good it was :) I was sent the all purpose sauce -

I tried it on a steak and boy did it ever taste " out of this world" yummy. It was strong enough to give the steak a little kick without over powering and then you are left with a hint of sweetness . I will for be keepng our family stocked in this stuff - I could drink it :)

Next I want to try the barbeque sauce -

The eighties are back ...

and so I am - Sorry for the blog break ladies but I had to get my computer fixed and just got it back this weekend ... The break however gave me some great time to think about some ideas I have been wanting to write about for awhile now , so let's jump right in shall we - First up there is something comforting about the eighties being back in style .

Most of all I really , really hope these come back around - I still remember collecting the 7up bottle - Oh how I would love for little ladybug to get to experience the joys of the original charm necklace

Summer at the pool

On today’s Kelly’s Korner Show us your life series it is activities we like to do with our children- Well, in the summer ladies there is one activity that little divabelle and I do almost everyday : pool,pool and well,pool !!

This is from last year as you can imagine it is hard to get a pool picture of a running toddler these days…

This is the actual pool we go to – I live on the lazy river – That is mommy’s break when the hubs comes with us

I am joining Kelly’s Korner today for Show us your life. Today we are sharing our wedding proposals -

Mine is short and sweet : The first proposal was casually mentioned in the car with no ring and no plan , so I pretty much knew it was coming but hey, I wanted the ring too. So next he got an antique ring from my granny that I have always admired – The only problem was that to have it reset and have an actual diamond set in the ring would be thousands of dollars as in double digit thousands – Well as ya’ll can imagine that was not an option or in the plan. Next thing I knew he showed up at my apartment with a ring he had picked out himself , got down on one knee and I was engaged. I have learned in the 9 years of marriage how special that time in our lives was – You kind of take for granted how fun setting up house and learning to cook with your love really is . As you grow in marriage you learn each others love languages and you grow but you set your foundation from that very day .

June Tis the season for the blissful southern weddings. We really know how to throw a shindig here in the good ol’ south . You can bet you will find us cuttin’ a rug and finding the most amazing , serene places on earth to celebrate the big day ! Along with wedding season comes wedding gift giving . Here in the south it is essential to give the perfect gift because believe me girls the bride and her momma (by the way) will remember exactly what you gave her at the wedding even after she has been married for twenty plus years –Ha,Ha – It’s just how we are – To this day I remember that Karen gave me my set of nesting mixing bowls ,my sister finished out my China pattern and Shannon gave me a margarita pitcher with glasses.
