Prophets or loonies...

Recently I came across a deranged preacher on TV who warn us that we have just a couple of days left to repent before the end of the world. The exact date of our doom is Mai 21, 2012.

Beside the fact that he looks like the evil man from Poltergeist. I cannot understand how so many believe in his predictions.

Humanity must feel very guilty to believe that God has such a punishment in store that good and evil, young and old will died under his wrath.

Osama Ben Laden Family Man?

Fatah, bin Laden's fifth wife and the only one left living with him in the house, had been gifted to the al Qaeda leader from a Yemeni family when she was just a teenager and later had three young children with him.

Bin Laden first married when he was 17, entering a union with Najwa Ghanem, a Syrian cousin of his, in 1974. The couple later became estranged, and in 2009 she and Omar bin Laden, Osama’s oldest son, wrote a memoir called Growing Up Bin Laden about their life with him. Omar describes a father who was driven and ambitious, always seeking to be best. He had little time for family life and little patience for his family, beating his children with his trademark accessory. “I tried to force him to show affection and was told that I made a pest of myself. In fact, my annoying behavior encouraged him to start carrying his signature cane. As time passed, he began caning me and my brothers for the slightest infraction,”

Of his other wives, he had divorced one and three others had moved to Syria.

Umm Hamza, a professor of child psychology, was reportedly his favorite wife, and most mature, seven years his senior. She had only one child, a son. Though she had a frail constitution and was not beautiful, she was from "a wealthy and distinguished family," exuded a "regal quality," and "was deeply committed to the jihadi cause".

Umm Ali, asked for a divorce while in Sudan. According to Abu Jandal, bin Laden's former chief bodyguard, Osama's wife Umm Ali asked Osama for a divorce because she said that she "could not continue to live in an austere way and in hardship".
Umm Abdullah, or Najwa, was bin Laden's first wife and the mother of eleven children, the youngest and least educated. Her children did not like life in Khartoum and even less life in Afghanistan. She left bin Laden around 2001, about the same time as his marriage to Amal al-Sada, a fifteen-year-old Yemeni girl who bin Laden married apparently as part of a "political arrangement" between him and "an important Yemeni tribe, meant to boost al-Qaeda recruitment in Yemen"

While we were going on our daily lives or sitting comfortably in our living rooms, a few men and women were writing pages of history.

We will never know the names of 40 men and women of the Special Force Unite who brought the #1 most wanted terrorist in the world Osama Ben Ladin down but we know that they are sons and daughters,fathers and mothers,brothers and sisters and that thanks to their heroism we can now sleep a little better knowing that they are watching over us.

More importantly is that I am so proud that America and Americans who had lost their role as world leader under the Bush Administration has once again regain the respect and the regard of the world.

We always had the means, all we needed is the right Commander in Chief. Mister President you got my vote.

Japan has raised the severity level of its nuclear crisis to the maximum seven, putting the emergency at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant on a par with Chernobyl. Officials from the nuclear and industrial safety agency (Nisa) confirmed that the crisis level had been raised from five to seven on the international nuclear and radiological event scale. But they said the new rating reflects the initial impact of the nuclear crisis, adding that radiation levels have since dropped dramatically. The scale, devised by the International Atomic Energy Agency, ranks nuclear and radiological accidents and incidents by severity from one to seven. Level seven incidents involve a major release of radiation with widespread health and environmental effects, according to the IAEA. In recent days Japanese officials had suggested there was no need to raise the severity level from five, which had been applied to the Three Mile Island accident in 1979. A spokesman for Nisa said the decision to raise the level to the status of a major accident did not mean that the Japanese plant posed the same threat to public health or involved similarly big releases of radiation as the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. "At Chernobyl, the reactor itself exploded while still active, which is completely different from the situation at Fukushima," Hidehiko Nishiyama said. He added that the decision had been taken a month after the accident because experts needed time to analyse the data. Japan's nuclear safety commission estimated that the Fukushima plant's reactors had released up to 10,000 terabecquerels of radioactive iodine-131 per hour into the air for several hours after they were damaged in the 11 March earthquake and tsunami. The emission of radioactive substances from Fukushima Daiichi was about 10% of that detected at Chernobyl, Nishiyama said. The nuclear safety commission said emissions have since dropped to below one terabecquerel per hour, adding that it was examining the total amount of radioactive materials released. Some experts criticised the move as excessive. "I think raising it to the level of Chernobyl is excessive," said Murray Jennex, associate professor at San Diego State University. "It's nowhere near that level. Chernobyl was terrible – it blew and they had no containment, and they were stuck. "The [Japanese] containment has been holding, the only thing that hasn't is the fuel pool that caught fire. I don't see those as the same event. If they want to do that, that's fine. I think they're being overly pessimistic." Tuesday's decision came after the government said it would widen the evacuation zone near the plant to include five communities lying outside the current 20km no-go area. About 70,000 people living within a 20km radius of the plant have already been evacuated, while 130,000 living between 20-30km from the plant have been told to leave voluntarily or stay indoors. The latest evacuation, which could take at least a week to complete, was prompted by the lack of progress in fixing cooling systems at the damaged plant and concerns about the long-term effects on public health. These new evacuation plans are meant to ensure safety against risks of living [in affected communities] for half a year or one year," the government's chief spokesman, Yukio Edano, said. Japan's north-east and eastern regions have been hit by two big aftershocks in the past 24 hours. Shortly after 8am on Tuesday, an earthquake measuring magnitude 6.3 that struck off the coast of Chiba prefecture was followed by reports of a fire breaking out at the No 4 reactor at Fukushima Daiichi. The blaze was quickly extinguished, officials said. It was one of more than 400 aftershocks above magnitude 5 to have hit the area since 11 March. In one of the few signs of progress, the plant's operator, Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco), said it had stopped pumping low-level radioactive water from the reactor buildings into the sea. The controversial measure, which drew criticism from neighbouring China and South Korea, was designed to free up storage space for highly contaminated water. But engineers say they are no closer to restoring the plant's cooling system; until they do, they will be unable to cool overheating fuel rods and stabilise the facility's six reactors. On Monday, Tepco's president, Masataka Shimizu, made his first visit to Fukushima prefecture since the crisis began. "I would like to deeply apologise again for causing physical and psychological hardship," he said. The prefecture's governor, however, refused to meet him. What will happen to those who were infected with high level of radiation? what are the contingency in place for the area? Shelter,food,medical,...in long term?Once again we can conclude that Mother Nature has the upper hand. We may think we have created tools to harness some molecular energies, but when safety is compromised to the share holders profits it is the general population, the innocents that will be expendable.

An 8.9-magnitude earthquake struck off the east coast of Japan on March 11 -- one of the largest recorded in the last 100 years. The earthquake triggered a tsunami that swept across parts of northern Japan and caused waves to hit shores as far away as Oregon. About 200 to 300 bodies were found in Sendai, the closest city to the epicenter of the quake -- though Japanese officials expect the death toll to rise.

For those who think that this is the end of the world, think again...

I believe that these countries ( not third world and yet not 21Century) were ruled by leaders had silence their people though fear and despotic totalitarian politic. What does one do when one is no longer afraid of death. He become free.

ALGERIA

BAHRAIN

Roots of unrest:
Protesters initially took to the streets of Manama last week to demand reform and the introduction of a constitutional monarchy. But some are now calling for the removal of the royal family, which has led the Persian Gulf state since the 18th century. Young members of the country's Shiite Muslim majority have staged protests in recent years to complain about discrimination, unemployment and corruption, issues they say the country's Sunni rulers have done little to address. The Bahrain Center for Human Rights said authorities launched a clampdown on dissent in late 2010. It accused the government of torturing some human rights activists.

EGYPT

Roots of unrest:
Complaints about police corruption and abuses were among the top grievances of demonstrators who forced Mubarak from office. Demonstrators were also angry about Mubarak's 30-year rule, a lack of free elections and economic issues such as high food prices, low wages and high unemployment.

LIBYA

Roots of unrest:
Protests in Libya began in January when demonstrators, fed up with delays, broke into a housing project the government was building and occupied it. Gadhafi's government, which has ruled since a 1969 coup, responded with a $24 billion fund for housing and development. A month later, more demonstrations were sparked when police detained relatives of those killed in an alleged 1996 massacre at the Abu Salim prison, according to Human Rights Watch. High unemployment has also fueled the protests.

SUDAN

Demonstrators seek an end to NCP rule and government-imposed price increases, according to Human Rights Watch. It accuses the government of being heavy-handed in its response to demonstrations, and using pipes, sticks and tear gas to disperse protesters.

DJIBOUTI

Roots of unrest:
Protesters have called for President Ismail Omar Guelleh -- whose family has ruled the country since its independence from France in 1977 -- to step down ahead of elections scheduled in April. Guelleh has held the post since 1999 and is seeking a third term. Economic stagnation is also a source of anger among the people.

IRAN

Roots of unrest:
Opposition to the ruling clerics has simmered since the 2009 election, when hundreds of thousands of people filled Tehran streets to denounce the re-election of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as fraudulent.

IRAQ

Roots of unrest:
Demonstrations in Iraq have usually not targeted the national government. Instead, the protesters are angry over corruption, the quality of basic services, a crumbling infrastructure and high unemployment, particularly on a local level. They want an end to frequent power outages and food shortages.

JORDAN

Roots of unrest:
Jordan's economy has been hit hard by the global economic downturn and rising commodity prices, and youth unemployment is high, as it is in Egypt. Officials close to the palace have told CNN that King Abdullah II is trying to turn a regional upheaval into an opportunity for reform. He swore in a new government following anti-government protests. The new government has a mandate for political reform and is headed by a former general, with opposition and media figures among its ranks.

KUWAIT

Roots of unrest:
Protesters such as Bedouins are seeking citizenship for residing in the country and who are not Kuwaiti citizens, an issue the country has been grappling with for decades. According to the CIA World Factbook, Kuwait has a population of 2.7 million, with 1.3 million resident registered as "non-nationals."

SYRIA

Roots of unrest:
Opponents of the al-Assad government allege massive human rights abuses, and an emergency law has been in effect since 1963.

MOROCCO

Roots of unrest
Protesters in Morocco are calling for political reform. Government officials say such protests are not unusual and that the protesters' demands are on the agenda of most political parties.

TUNISIA

The revolt was triggered when an unemployed college graduate set himself ablaze after police confiscated his fruit cart, cutting off his source of income. Protesters complained about high unemployment, corruption, rising prices and political repression.

PALESTINIAN TERRITORIES

Roots of unrest:
The Palestinian territories have not seen the kind of demonstrations as in many Arab countries, but the Fatah leaders of the Palestinian Authority have been under criticism since Al-Jazeera published secret papers claiming to reveal that Palestinian officials were prepared to make wide-ranging concessions in negotiations with Israel. Negotiations toward a resolution of the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict have since collapsed. Palestinian protests, largely in support of Egypt and Tunisia, were generally small and poorly attended, and in some cases the Hamas rulers of Gaza and the Palestinian Authority rulers of the West Bank actively tried to stifle protests. The split between Hamas and Fatah hampers internal change in the territories, although calls for political change are growing louder among Palestinians. Large-scale protests have failed to materialize as many Palestinians believe their problem remains Israel.

Using the Internet, facebook and twitter the word was past on for January 25th 2011. unknown to the organizers, a tsunamis of protesters made their way to Liberty Square in Cairo... and the rest is History.18 days of uncertainty but unwavering determination by the protesters living hundreds lying dead and thousands injured the World witnessed a Revolution.

Jan. 25

-The largest protests in three decades broke out in Egypt, shocking the regime of President Hosni Mubarak. Thousands of protesters, energized by the popular energy that toppled Tunisian autocrat Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali two weeks earlier, converged on Cairo's Tahrir Square in what they dubbed the "day of rage."

Jan. 26 - The Egyptian government stepped up its efforts to squelch the protests. Police forces under the control of the Interior Ministry used rubber bullets, tear gas, and concussion grenades to drive protesters from Tahrir Square early Wednesday morning.

Jan. 27

- Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mohamed ElBaradei, a potential presidential candidate, announces his plans to rush to Cairo in order to join the burgeoning protest movement. "It was the young people who took the initiative and set the date and decided to go," he told reporters. ''Frankly, I didn't think the people were ready.''

Jan. 28

- The demonstrations on Friday, the traditional day of prayer for Muslims, marked the first time that the Muslim Brotherhood had participated in the protests en masse. Once again, the protesters seized Tahrir Square from the security services -- but this time, they would not be driven out of the area. In an attempt to prevent the protesters from organizing, the Egyptian regime cut off access to Internet and cellular services across the country.

Jan. 29

- Mubarak ordered the resignation of his cabinet ministers and appointed Omar Suleiman, the director of the country's intelligence services and his longtime confidant, as vice president. However, he vowed to stay on as president. "There is a very thin line between freedom and chaos," he said. "I am absolutely on the side of freedom for each citizen, and at the same time I am on the side of the security of Egypt."

Jan. 30

- As the protests in Egypt continued, the White House struggled to adjust to the rapidly changing political reality. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton urged the Egyptian government to begin an orderly transition to democracy, but stopped short of calling on Mubarak to resign immediately. "Clearly, what we don't want is this chaos," she said.

Jan. 31

- As hundreds of thousands of protesters massed once again in Tahrir Square, Mubarak ordered Ahmed Shafiq, his newly appointed prime minister, to open talks with opposition leaders.

Feb. 1

- Following another day of massive protests across Egypt, Mubarak addressed the nation on Tuesday night to announce that he would not run for another term as president. "I tell you in all sincerity that I did not intend to seek re-election," he said. "But I am keen to end my presidency in a manner that will enable whoever succeeds me to take over the country in a stable climate."

Feb. 2

- Widespread chaos and violence broke out between anti-government protesters and crowds supporting Mubarak. Pro-government forces at one point rode horses and camels through Tahrir Square in an attempt to disperse the protesters. At least five people were killed and hundreds more were injured in the violence.

Feb. 3

- Journalists were caught up in the ongoing clashes between anti-Mubarak groups and supporters of the regime. Reporters for the New York Times, Washington Post, and Time magazine were all detained by Egypt's security services; countless others were assaulted by angry mobs.

Feb. 4

- Though still embattled by attacks from pro-Mubarak groups, protesters organized a massive Friday protest that they dubbed the "Day of Departure." They were off by one week.

Feb. 5 - Gamal Mubarak, Hosni's son, resigned from his leadership post in the National Democratic Party. Before the unrest broke out, he was viewed as likely to succeed his father as president.

Feb. 6

- Several opposition parties, along with the banned but tolerated Muslim Brotherhood, meet with Vice President Omar Suleiman in a "national dialogue," meant to reach a resolution to the ongoing crisis. But the protesters on the streets of Cairo, who were not represented by any of the official parties, insist that they will not engage with the regime until Mubarak steps down.

Feb. 7

- Wael Ghonim, a Dubai-based executive for Google and pro-democracy activisty who had been imprisoned by the regime since the outbreak of the protests, was freed -- and quickly became a symbol of the movement. In a tearful interview, he praised the sacrifices of the youth who died in an effort to create a democratic government.

Feb. 8 - Energized by Ghonim's return, protesters surged to the streets of Cairo on Tuesday to demand Mubarak's exit. Suleiman, meanwhile, announced the creation of a committee to propose constitutional amendments that he said would ensure the "peaceful and orderly transition of power."

Feb. 9

- Protesters gathered around Egypt's parliament building, forcing its evacuation. Meanwhile, labor unions across the country went on strike, with tens of thousands of workers staying away from their jobs on Wednesday.

Feb. 10

- The Egyptian military released a communiqué that suggested it would intervene to bring an end to the upheaval that had seized Egypt for over two weeks. Statements by high-ranking generals and figures in the ruling party, also suggesting that Mubarak would step down, bolstered the protesters' belief that they were about to witness the end of Mubarak's reign. This video is 20 min of a talk show call "Open Mind" where Judge Waring and Martin Luther King speaks about the success of their cause which is bringing the negro in America and mostly in the south to the status of first class citizens.

Judge Waring says something that I thing is of great importance, I paraphrase;

- As American,We the people have rights.
These rights are not giving to us they are OURS.
The court system doesn't go around telling us what our rights are,
but it tells us that we are American Citizens and as such
it is our duty to know these rights and exercise them.-

A country's destiny is in the hands of its people. It is its people who will raise its status and it is also its people who will bring it down.

Hundred of thousands of Americans fought and died during the Civil War for these rights. Things today we taking for granted such as the inherent right of everyone for freedom, justice and the pursue of happiness.

But like most great enlighten Empires before, when the majority of its people become lazy with leisure and find more time for the entertainment arena then been part of the political arena it is just a matter of time for its decline leaving room for the next enlighten country to rise?... Who will that be? China? Russia? The Middle East? What do you think.

Turks are often mistaken for Middle Eastern and Arabs, these two groups have nothing in commun but Islam. Otherwise they couldn't be more different. The Turks ethnicly range from Caucassian, to Asian, to Black, Yes, there are black Turks.

Namibia - Genocide and the Second Reich ~

The story of Germany's forgotten genocide. This powerful documentary by David Adetayo Olusoga took a sensitive and uncompromising look at the tragic circumstances leading to the massacre of three quarters of the Namibia population in German concentration camps built in Africa. The programme included graphic reconstructions and did not shirk from showing disturbing scenes which revealed the savagery ofeEuropean colonial ideology put into practise.

The documentary also showed the 2004 footage of Germany's ambassador to Namibia expressing regret for their killing of thousands of Namibia's Hereros during the colonial era. Unsurprisingly, the Germans refused to agree to the justifiable calls for reparations.

The program also explored the current call for land reforms where most of Namibia's commercial land is still owned by european farmers who make up 6 percent of the country's population of 1.8 million. Throughout it included interviews and powerful testimony from African survivors, descendants and reparation movement representatives thus making this a compelling programme which both educated the audience whilst treating the sensitive subject matter with the respect it deserved.

The term Second Reich is sometimes applied retrospectively to this period. The term was popularised by German nationalist historian Arthur Moeller van den Bruck in the 1920s, and drew an explicit link with the earlier Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation (the "First Reich"), as well as underlining his desire for the establishment of a "Third Reich".[6]

This term was adopted during the time of Nazi rule for propaganda purposes - and therefore its use among historians after World War II has generally been discouraged, as many consider it to give legitimacy to Nazi historiography.

January 12 - Haiti earthquake

On January 12, a 7.0-magnitude earthquake shook Port-au-Prince, Haiti, toppling buildings and destroying most of the country's infrastructure. The Haitian government estimated 230,000 people were killed, more than 300,000 injured, and more than one million people left homeless. Humanitarian aid began flowing into the country within hours of the quake, however it was not enough to prevent rioting in the economically ravaged nation.

January 19 -Scott Brown elected to Senate

On January 19, Republican Senate candidate Scott Brown shocked the political world, upsetting Democrat Martha Coakley in a special election for Sen. Ted Kennedy's seat. Brown's victory tipped the Senate awayfrom a Democratic Super Majoriy.

February 18 - Plane flown into IRS building

On February 18, Joseph Stack, a 53-year-old software engineer committed suicide by flying a small plane into an IRS building in Austin, Texas. Internal Revenue Service manager Vernon Hunter, who was in the building at the time of the crash, also died. Thirteen others were hurt, two seriously. After the crash police found Stack's rambling suicide note criticizing the government.

February 27 - Chilean earthquake and; tsunami

On February 27, 1.5 Million Displaced After Chile Quakean 8.8-magnitude earthquake shook the Maule Region of Chile, triggering a tsunami. The death toll from the two natural disasters reached 800. Aftershocks were felt for nearly a month after the initial quake. On March 11, a 6.9-magnitude aftershock killed one more person.

On April 14, Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajökull erupted for a second time, causing a massive plume of smoke and ash. In just one week the cloud had forced the cancellation of 95,000 flights over Europe.

Exploded.

On April 20, The Deepwater Horizon, an offshore floating oil rig exploded, killing 11 workers and forcing other workers onto life boats. The explosion set off a three month oil leak that reached American shores in Louisiana, Missisippi, Alabama and Florida. The leak was not stopped until July 15.

April 23 - Arizona passes immigration law

On April 23, despite opposition from the White House, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed SB 1070, one of the most stringent immigration laws in the country. The new law requires police officers to detain people they suspect are in the country illegally, and makes it a misdemeanor crime to not carry immigration papers. The law drew criticism from the Hispanic community, which claimed it would encourage racial profiling. Governor Brewer claimed the federal government had waited too long for immigration reform.

May 1 - Attempted Times Square bombing

On May 1, an attempted bomb plot shut down New York's Times Square. Security cameras showed a man walking away from a smoking SUV. The SUV was found to have explosive materials, but never detonated. Two days later the U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced the arrest of Faisal Shahzad while reportedly attempting to board a plane to Pakistan. Shahzad was sentenced on October 5th to life in prison without parole.

July 21 - Obama signs financial reform bill

On July 21, President Barack Obama signed the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. The measure was the most sweeping financial reform in the U.S. since the 1930s, and promised Americans would no longer have to pay for Wall Street mistakes.

July 25 - Wikileaks releases war documents

On July 25, the website Wikileaks releases thousands of classified military intelligence documents dating from 2004-2009. The documents revealed startling information on what the U.S. knew about the Taliban, Iran and Pakistan's involvement in the insurgency, and the amount of civilian casualties. Wikileaks founder Julian Assange (pictured) would not reveal the source of the leaked documents. The Wikileaks website continued several more 'document dumps' through the year.

August 13 - Ground Zero mosque debate

On August 13, President Barack Obama entered into the Ground Zero Islamic center debate. Polls showed a majority of New Yorkers opposed the placement of a mosque within blocks of the former site of the World Trade Towers. In a speech following a dinner celebrating the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, President Obama said, "Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country. And that includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances."

September 14 - U.S. hiker in Iran released

On September 14, American hiker Sarah Shourd was released by Iran after being detained for 13 months under allegations of spying for the U.S. Hikers Shane Bauer and Joshua Fattal remain detained without trial.

October 13 - Chilean miners rescue begins

On October 13, after nearly 70 days trapped below the earth in a Chilean mine, 33 miners were rescued through a tiny capsule taken like an elevator up a narrow shaft. All 33 miners were in good condition. The miners became instant celebrities and each was greeted by Chile's president upon their rescue.

November 16 - Prince William engaged

On November 16, Prince William and longtime girlfriend Kate Middleton announced their engagement. The two had been dating for eight years. William gave Middleton the ring his mother had worn when she was engaged with Prince Charles. The two will be wed in April of 2011 at Westminster Abbey.

Nov. 23 - North Korea shells South Korea

On November 23, North Korea fired dozens of military shells at the South Korean island of Yeonpyeong, killing two soldiers. The attack came as South Korea was conducting military drills. The United States condemned the attack.

December 6 - Obama reaches tax deal

On December 6, President Barack Obama announced he had reached a deal with Republican leaders to extend Bush era tax cuts for all Americans for two more years. In exchange the president received an extension of unemployment benefits. The president had been fighting the tax cuts for most of 2010, and the deal angered most liberal Democrats, but signed the bill into law on December 17.

December 22 - Lame duck session ends

On December 22, President Barack Obama acknowledged the end of the lame duck session with a press conference. Despite losing the House during in the mid-term elections the outgoing Congress was able to pass Obama's key legislative initiatives including a repeal of

'Don't Ask, Don't Tell', a tax deal, and the 'New Start Nuclear Arms Treaty' with Russia.

August 31 - President Obama announces Iraq combat end

Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus to the Virgin Mary as a fulfillment of the Old Testament's Messianic prophecy. Hajj (Arabic: حج‎ Ḥajj) is the annual pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
It is currently the largest annual pilgrimage in the world, and is the fifth pillar of Islam, a religious duty that must be carried out at least once in their lifetime by every able-bodied Muslim who can afford to do so.
The Hajj is a demonstration of the solidarity of the Muslim people, and their submission to God (Allah in the Arabic language).
The pilgrimage occurs from the 8th to 12th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the 12th and last month of the Islamic calendar. Because the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, eleven days shorter than the Gregorian calendar Ihram is the name given to the special state in which Muslims live whilst on the pilgrimage. used in the Western world, the Gregorian date of the Hajj changes from year to year.
The Hajj is associated with the life of Islamic prophet Muhammad from the 7th century, but the ritual of pilgrimage to Mecca is considered by Muslims to stretch back thousands of years to the time of Abraham Ibrahim). Pilgrims join processions of hundreds of thousands of people, who simultaneously converge on Mecca for the week of the Hajj, and perform a series of rituals: (

Each person walks counter-clockwise seven times about the Kaaba, the cube-shaped building which acts as the Muslim direction of prayer,
Runs back and forth between the hills of Al-Safa and Al-Marwah.
Drink from the Zamzam Well.
Stan vigil on the plains of Mount Arafat..
Throw stones in a ritual Stoning of the Devil.
The pilgrims then shave their heads, perform a ritual of animal sacrifice, and celebrate the three day global festival of Eid al-Adha.

As of 2009, about two million pilgrims participate in this annual pilgrimage.crowd-control techniques have become critical, and because of the large numbers of people, many of the rituals have become more stylized. It is not necessary to kiss the Black Stone, but merely to point at it on each circuit around the Kaaba. Throwing pebbles was done at large pillars, which for safety reasons in 2004 were changed to long walls with catch basins below to catch the stones. The slaughter of an animal can be done either personally, or by appointing someone else to do it, and so forth. But even with the crowd control techniques, there are still many incidents during the Hajj, as pilgrims are trampled in, crush or ramps collapse under the weight of the many visitors, causing hundreds of deaths. Pilgrims can also go to Mecca to perform the rituals at other times of the year. This is sometimes called the "lesser pilgrimage", or Umrah. However, even if one chooses to perform the Umrah, they are still obligated to perform the Hajj at some other point in their lifetime if they have the means to do so.

Hajj 2010

Yesterday marked the start of the Hajj, the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Press Agency said that a record number of Muslims were expected to make the Hajj this year - over 3.4 million anticipated over the five days of the pilgrimage.

More than two-and-a-half million Muslims are traveling to Saudi Arabia this week for Hajj. This is the biggest gathering of people anywhere, and it will be bigger than ever this year. Even in the world's richest oil company, that much tourism has an economic impact. In 2010 tourism is expected to generate $17.6 billion -- nearly 4 percent of the Kingdom's GDP.

Contractors are also cashing in on the pilgrimage, including a projected $40 billion investment in hotels and accommodations and a $5.3 billion rail deal with China.

2012 Mayan Calendar 'Doomsday' Date Might Be Wrong

This article should get some of us a little more rational when it comes to the big hype about 2012, Planet X, Doomsday... been rational is the hardest thing to do when overcome with extreme feelings of fear, despair or even rapture. So just for a moment open your mind to the idea that it could all be a a spook and we will all laugh about it on December 22, 2012. Other wise would you want to be the one to clean up the mess that doomsday will leave behind?

The Mayans Never Predicted Doomsday

Before we continue, it's worth emphasizing that this mesoamerican calendar (as used by several cultures -- including the Maya -- in Central and South America before European colonization) does not predict an apocalypse. It never did, despite what the movie "2012" told us
The Mayan civilization existed from 250-900 A.D. in the current geographical location of southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador and some of Honduras. Archaeologists studying this fascinating culture have been able to decipher their many calendars, but their longest period calendar -- the "Long Count" -- is what set alarm bells off in the fertile minds of a few conspiracy theorists, doomsayers and guys looking to make a fast buck.
So, where's the problem?
The Long Count was used by the Maya to document past and future events. Their other calendars were simply too short to document any date beyond 52 years. The 52-year calendar -- known as the "Calendar Round" -- was used as it spans a generation, or the approximate lifetime of an individual.
Using the Calendar Round meant that events in a person's life could be chronicled over 52 years -- or 52 "Haab's," spanning 18,980 unique days. But what if the Maya wanted to keep note of a historical event that occurred more than 52 years ago? Or perhaps mark a date more than 52 years into the future?

ANALYSIS: Can Science Beat the Doomsday Hype?

It's Just a Numerical Coincidence
Using remarkable ingenuity, the Maya created the "Long Count" calendar, a departure from the shorter calendars. The Long Count is a numerically predictable calendar, not based on archaic measures of time.
Now, purely as a consequence of the Long Count's numerical value, many Mayan scholars agree that the calendar will "run out" after 5,126 years (or, at least, it's first cycle does). The Mayans set this calendar to begin in the year 3114 B.C. (according to our modern Gregorian calendar). If the Long Count began in 3114 B.C. and it's calculated to continue for 5126 years, the "end date" will be -- you guessed it -- 2012 A.D. Further refinement sets the date to Dec. 21, the day of the winter solstice for the Northern Hemisphere.

Correlating Calendars
A huge issue when studying ancient calendars comes when trying to correlate their time frames with our modern (Gregorian) calendar. After all, for archaeologists to work out when a big event is documented in the Mayan calendar (such as a war, famine or religious celebration), it needs to be translated into "our" years, months and days.
As the Gregorian calendar began 2010 years ago, we have a standard time line for over two millennia of historical events. But to understand the events documented by the fallen culture, Mayan scholars needed to find significant events common in both the Gregorian and Long Count calendars so they can "correlate."
To do this, most Mayan scholars use a well-respected correlation factor called the "GMT constant." GMT stands for the initials of the last names of the archaeologists who calculated the constant: Joseph Goodman, Juan Martinez-Hernandez and J. Eric S. Thompson.
But Gerardo Aldana of UC Santa Barbara is now questioning the validity of this correlation factor due to a possible misidentification of ancient astronomical events in a new book called "Calendars and Years II: Astronomy and Time in the Ancient and Medieval World."
The Maya were highly skilled astronomers who kept meticulous records of the night sky. They documented the phases of the moon, recorded eclipses and even tracked the movement of Venus. In fact, the Venus cycle was an important calendar for the Maya. Their records enabled them to predict future astronomical cycles with great accuracy.

Venus or a Meteor?
Although GMT uses several sources of astronomical, archaeological and historical evidence to correlate the Long Count with our modern calendar, Aldana has cast doubt on the accuracy of some of the astronomical evidence interpreted from ancient Mayan artifacts and colonial texts.
One of the key events described by Aldana is a battle date as set by the ruler of Dos Pilas (a Maya site in the current geographical location of Guatemala). Ruler Balaj Chan K’awiil chose this date by the appearance of Chak Ek'. According to Johan Normark, researcher at the Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies at Stockholm University, Chak Ek' "used to be believed to be Venus but in another study Aldana believes it is a [meteor]."

ANALYSIS: Mayan King's Tomb Found in Guatemala

If this is the case, there's a correlation mismatch. If an event is assumed to be correlated with the rising of Venus (a predictable, cyclical occurrence), but it's actually correlated with a random event such as a meteorite, then we have a problem.
Add this to a mismatch of solar calendar dates between Mayan sites and the end date of Dec. 21, 2012 could be at least 60 days out.
Aldana presents several reasons why the GMT constant may not be reliable, and he's not the first to do so, but he does admit that it is widely accepted by the majority of researchers. A lot more work (such as supportive radiocarbon dating) therefore needs to be done before his findings can be corroborated.
This is a fascinating area of work, but it is overshadowed by the inane ramblings of doomsday advocates who have their sights set on the world ending on Dec. 21, 2012. Alas, I doubt that even if this infamous Mayan calendar end date was proven to be inaccurate, doomsayers will ignore this fact.
After all, proving that the world isn't going to end is bad for business if you have a doomsday book to sell.

I was surfing youtube when I came across the Dooms Day Theory. After watching a couple of simulations of earth's cataclysmic end, I wondered what was the point of worrying if we were all doomed to disappear like the dinosaurs.
But before quitting my job and plundering my savings to fun and shopping, I decided to look for facts rather then falling for the shock and fear factors.
I have found a lot of speculations and extrapolations of archeological and space researches. The following videos are a sample of more credible hypothesis from rational experts. Do your due diligence before buy anything.

We made history by electing Barack Obama. He was not politic as usual. What did we expect? in one word a MIRACLE.
President Obama is not a magician. He cannot in 3 years rebuild the economy, bring our soldiers back and reinstate our country among the leaders of the world. We believed for 10 years that we were engaged in a fight for democracy. America was Robin Hood taking the powers of tyrants to give back to the people. Then at the end of Bush's term, slowly the truth emerged. We had been duped by the medias and out government's propaganda into a war with Iraq, accepting human right violation at Guantanamo Bay and a religious war with the extremist Islamic in Afghanistan.
Our soldiers were and are dying for the greed of Corporate America.
Lobotomized by media and technology America's youth doesn't care about politic. Their parents are to busy trying to pay the bills and keep up with the Jones and the American dream, to have the time to care. What's left ? Corporate America again.
Make up your mind to be involve, find out who is really behind the curtain making the decisions.
Use your voice, your vote and learn your rights to make a difference. Our constitution is a privilege not a right anymore.
