Con más de 10 y 17 años de carrera musical, en forma individual, Valeria y Jerga crean el proyecto de "SIGNAL DELUXE" en el año 2005, desde entonces han recorrido Europa varias veces en festivales y clubes de países como España, Francia, Austria, Polonia, Suiza, Alemania y Suecia. Han dado a conocer su música en sellos como Persona, Revolver, Brouqade, Eintakt, Fade, Thougthless, Dialtone, Sounds of Earth, We are here, Spontan music, 38db Tonsportgruppe, Numbolic & Abolipop. Su música ha sido interpretada por cientos de djs de todo el planeta.

Despues de publicar el track ''Todos Los Fuegos "en el sello discografico de Jeff Milligan Revolver, Signal Deluxe debutó con el sello "PERSONA" en el siguiente año con su" EP Mammoth ", una colaboración con New York's Big Bully, conocido por sus contribuciones a la EP Samim, "You See the Light" y "Flow", así como su trabajo con Fuckpony.

Signal Deluxe con base en México, también conocido como Jerga y Valeria, se formo hace mas de tres años y han publicado EPs on Brouqade, Eintakt, Dialtone and Thoughtless, así como Revolver, tocando en Berlín en el Bar 25, Tresor, Golden Gate y la Volksbühne, así como en una extensa gama de festivales internacionales.

Jerga es un vertren de la escena electronica en Latino América, donde comenzó a tocar hace 15 años, toco desde rock psicodélico de los 60's y 70's hasta música disco que es la mayor influencia en su vida y su música, Jerga fue a la escuela de música en México y luego se trasladó a Los Ángeles, California para continuar sus estudios, especializándose en armonía y bajo ecléctico. Jerga tiene dos eventos mensuales en la Ciudad de México, donde sus temas "¿dónde está mi puta" y "besar el cielo" se han convertido en éxitos del underground, habiando realizado numerosas giras en Europa.

Como Signal Deluxe/Jerga y Valeria han tocado en fiestas y festivales en lugares remotos como América del Sur, entre ellos Costa Rica, Chile, Colombia y México, así como los EE.UU., Canadá, y en toda Europa, en Alemania, Francia, Polonia, Suiza, Suecia y España.

Definitivamente representando a Mexico y cautibando a un variado y extenso publico por todo el mundo.

After last year’s 'Todos Los Fuegos' on Jeff Milligan’s Revolver label, Signal Deluxe debuted on Persona this year with their "Mammoth EP", a collaboration with New York's Big Bully, well known for his contributions to the Samim EPs, "Do You See the Light", and "Flow," as well as his work with Fuckpony.

Mexico based Signal Deluxe, aka Jerga and Valeria, formed three years ago and have released EPs on Brouqade, Eintakt, Dialtone and Thoughtless as well as Revolver; they've played Berlin at Bar 25, Tresor, Golden Gate and the Volksbühne as well as a swathe of international festivals.

Signal Deluxe is a ‘freestyle’ project that recognizes no genre divisions between styles and genres of beat driven music. With Jamaica in their hearts, Los Angeles in their fingers, Berlin in their souls and Mexico in their blood, Signal Deluxe is taking on the world.

Jerga is a vertren of the Latin American dance scene where he began playing 15 years ago. 60's psychedelic rock and 70's disco music are the biggest influence in his life and his music, he went to music school in Mexico and then moved to Los Angeles, California to continue his studies, specializing in harmony and eclectic bass. He has two monthly parties in Mexico City where his tracks "where's my bitches" and "kiss the sky" have become underground hits and he’s toured extensively in Europe.

As Signal Deluxe Jerga and Valeria have played parties and festivals in far flung locales throughout South America including Costa Rica, Chile, Colombia, and Mexico, as well as the USA, Canada, and across Europe in Germany, France, Poland, Switzerland, Sweden and Spain.

"MCBRIDE WOODY de Minnesota, también conocido como "DJ ESP" ha sido un DEFENSOR, ENTUSIASTA Y ORGANIZADOR DE ARTES Y LAS ACTIVIDADES DE MÚSICA DESDE LOS 80's.

Esta experiencia y futura dedicación lo llevó a ser el recipiente del prestigioso "PREMIO DE MÚSICA DE MINNESOTA" como "MEJOR ARTISTA DE ELECTRONICA" de pie junto a otros ganadores como PRINCE, SOUNDS OF BLACKNESS Y KID LANG JOHNNY .... Luca Ortega ha sido parte integral del underground mexicano, tanto en su proyecto personal Líneas de Nazca, así como en proyectos paralelos con Mikael Stavostrand para al fima Rrygular y con Kai mann para el sello argentino Greener. Recientemente ha publicado en Alphahouse, propiedad del mismo Butane.

Actualmente Luca tiene su residencia en Berlin, trabaja activamente en el sello Numbolic al lado del proyecto suizo Dualism, donde publica exculsivamente Líneas de Nazca. Está preparando futuros releases tanto en Numbolic como en sellos de la nueva escuela Techno de Berlin como lo son Dasein y Frucht.

En los próximos trabajos de Luca se incluye el EP de Líneas de Nazca que contiene remixes de From karaoke to stardom, Seph e Itzone y también tendrá colaboraciones con Splatter, Tiari y Liam Hardman de la nueva escuela Techno de Berlín.

Yaleb Villalobos nació en México y creció en Minneapolis; La cual se caracteriza por ser el hogar para algunos de los más grandes “raves".
a mediados/finales de los 90's y de DJ's y promotores como Woody McBride y DVS1, una persona tuvo un interés particular en el talento de Yaleb. El Jefe de “Eccentric Beats Promotions Company” y ex editor de “365 Magazine” (Reino Unido), Phil Martínez le ofrece la oportunidad de tocar en una de sus residencias, donde Yaleb fue capaz de deleitar al público tocando desde tech-house hasta techno, sin dejar a un lado algunos sonidos latinos.

De ahí en adelante comenzó a tocar en clubes locales logrando proyección a nivel nacional. Posteriormente se asoció con Cesar Acosta, formando el colectivo "MEXIKAN TEKNO MAFIA" (MTM), que se ha extendido de Minneapolis hasta Detroit, Iowa, California, Chicago y ahora México.
Algunos de los DJ´s con quienes ha compartido escenario son: Joy Beltram, Tony Rohr (Nueva York), Woody Mcbride, Dustin Zahn (Enemy Records & Drumcode), DVS1, Silent Servant, Acid Circus AKA (RAiz) Droid, Luis Flores (nopal beat), Itzone (Dirty Bird), Pioneros de Timefog, James Patrick, Mike Gervais.

Actualmente Yaleb se encuentra producionde musica con la colaboracion de jente como James Patrick, que es uno de los mejores maestros de Ableton autorizados en USA y que en los ultimos anos se ha caracterizado por estar en los ranking de top's en Beatport.

Luis Flores

Mexican born Luis Flores has been producing electronic music for over fifteen years, as well as helping to launch the highly influential Mexican labels Nopal Beat Records and Antena Discos. Flores has also been at the forefront of raising Mexico's profile as a destination for clubbers and techno fans worldwide, helping to organize massive concerts, festivals and parties for the public as well as working with international organizations such as MUTEK to bring their events to his homeland. After the release of his 2009 Damage EP on Droid Recordings to critical acclaim (being charted by Speedy J, Chris Liebing and more), Luis Flores has become a core artist for Los Angeles based techno crew Droid Behavior where he continues to push his brand of dark, paranoid minimal rollers alongside LA heroes Drumcell, Audio Injection and Raíz.

You grew up in Mexico, which didn't have much of a techno scene until the very late 90s/early 00s, can you tell us about growing up in Mexico and your first experiences with electronic music and techno?

I was first exposed to electronic music in the late 80´s at a local club called Ricks where Jorge HM would dj everything from Nitzer Ebb to Skinny Puppy. Afterwards, our interest in the music grew to the point where a bunch of us ended up doing a radio show at the state’s college station (104.3 FM) called la Fabrica X in 1989. That led to putting on concerts and parties where EBM and Industrial were featured.

By 1991 the rave scene was exploding here in Guadalajara through a series of parties called Danceterias. Jorge was the dj and this time playing techno, house, acid, etc. The parties got so big after a couple of years that the police and government came down on us in their usual fascist
manner and stopped everything for a year or so…

From 1994 to 2001 the scene grew with several promoters, djs and radio shows even specializing in specific genres. All this time dealing with the government and police every couple of years whenever the crowds became too big for their “moral” peace of mind.

By the end of 2001 the scene was peaking again and a 4,000 + people festival outside of Guadalajara got brutally raided by the police on the whim of the newly elected governor, Francisco Ramírez Acuña, who was on the hunt for easy headlines for his war against crime.

Fortunately though, Mr. Ramírez underestimated the scene´s determination and ability to organize and suffered from a nation wide media backlash and free party protests held in front of the government´s HQs in downtown Guadalajara.

By 2003, electronic music had become a legitimate cultural expression and the municipal culture office, lead by Santiago Baeza, was funding free festivals, galleries and street shows for crowds of up to 15,000 + people.

From 2003 until the end of 2006 the city experienced several landmark events held in the city´s main square and streets featuring Skoltz Kolgen, Richie Hawtin, Dr. Martin, Bajofondo Tango Club, Sidestepper, Misstress Barbara and the microMUTEK 2005 and MUTEK@GDL 2006 festivals to name a few.

You helped found Nopal Beat Records, one of the most influential record labels in the Mexican electronic music community. Can you tell us about the role Nopal Beat played in bringing techno to Mexico and can you explain its trademark "acid cabaret" style?

Nopal Beat came together at the end of 1999 as a vehicle to release all the music being produced by the few electronic artists at the time. Back then electronic music was shunned by all major labels and most independents in the country, so we decided to publish the music
ourselves.

We decided to make a specific effort in incorporating the aesthetic, musical and visual, of the old school cabaret dark Mexican nightlife as the label’s mark and in the artists’ shows, integrating live Latin percussion and related visuals to our presentations, the result was called Acid Cabaret.

By the end of 2001 we signed with EMI and got into that whole “major label” cliché with all of its nightmares and wonders: big budgets and big responsibilities.

The Nopal Beat – EMI joint venture came to an end in 2005 after the record industry collapse happened to reach the Mexican majors and we became independent again, re-releasing all our catalogue with several new albums.

You also helped launch the Antena Discos label. How was this different from Nopal Beat and what's going on with it these days?

Antena came about as the escape valve for all the music being produced that did not fit into Nopal Beat´s indentity. Where NB’s sound encompassed everything from house to jazz and drum n bass to cumbia, Antena focused on all the machine driven sounds that since then feel more relevant.

You are one of Droid Behavior's core artists. How did you guys meet and start working together?

I met Moe, Drumcell, at a festival where we played on the same stage. We seemed to hit it off musically and started corresponding till the Dain Bramage E.P. came to be.

Afterwards I got the chance to perform at one of their Interface shows in LA and eventually was able to bring Raíz, Audio Injection and Drumcell down to Guadalajara.

What does being part of Droid Behavior mean to you and how has Droid Behavior helped to raise the profile of techno in the US and especially the west coast?

Droid seems to be one of the few names doing steady work to put the US back into the techno limelight, taking all aspects of the culture, musically and visually, to deliver something with depth to the audience in their releases and performances.

I am grateful to be a part of it to say the least.

Let's talk about production for a bit. What gear/plug ins have you been using lately? Do you prefer hardware to software? Why or why not?

I got my first sampler around 1991 and then got seriously into an analog synth addiction which lasted the most part of that decade, but when computers finally got to the point where you could do most of the work in the box, I got rid of my collection and never looked back.

I truly appreciate the hands on aspect of analog and outboard gear in general but wouldn’t trade the microscopic level of control computers give you, me being obsessive that way. At the end of the day, if I had to record all of my outboard gear into the machine I wouldn´t be able to
finish any track.

Mix wise the UAD card and plug-ins have been my cornerstone since 2006. On the side of composition, when I installed the first version of Native Instrument´s Massive I stopped using any other synthesizer except Reaktor. New additions, the Sound Toys Suite is my holy grail lately and I owe that to Audio Injection for introducing me to them.

All this running in Ableton Live.

I last saw you perform at Droid Behavior's Interface 31 where you played an amazing set from a live PA. Can you talk to us about what hardware/software you use in your live rig?
My obsessive approach to studio work is the opposite when it comes to the live setup where hands on is the main objective.

The setup includes: Vermona Drum Mrk2, Behringer BCR2000, Mackie 802-VLZ, RME Hammerfall soundcard and Ableton Live running on a VAIO laptop.

Your live PAs are characterized by a highly improvisational nature. Can you talk to us about the role of improvisation in live performance?

All the tracks I have produced since 2006 are broken down by parts in my Live file along with new loops, this way I can recombine anything to a different result to suit the occasion.

Most of the time I have no idea how the set is going to start and when I think about where it’s going to go it usually goes in a different direction once the music starts.

Lastly, where's your favorite place to party and why?

Berghain in Berlin hands down. Had one of the best times watching Moe and David perform there!!

The Enigmatic duo behind much of Droid Behavior’s activity, Vangelis and Vidal Vargas make their debut on Droid Recordings as Raíz. Raíz marks a new sound and message for the label, bringing a deeper sound to the power and grit. The Raíz project first appeared on Historia y Violencia with the dark dub track NUEVA, which made waves last spring for the label from techno’s epicenter, Berlin. The duo delves into an exploration of atmosphere, psychedelia, and themes of emotional disorder with the Keep secrets EP. On remix duties are like minded music veterans James Ruskin of Blueprint UK and Jerome Sydenham vs Function of Ibadan / Sandwell fame.

The title track develops slowly but surely into tougher dance floor territory with jagged percussion structures across an odyssey of eerie, spacey synth work. When the breakdown hits, crowds will be begging for the next hard hitting chapter to unfold… and it delivers. On the flip is Been Caught, and equally deep cut with enough groove to keep audiences moving at any time from peak hour on. Vibrato chord progressions accompany detailed sound design, chilling vocal snippets, and big room ready drum programming.

The new found collaboration of Jerome Sydenham and Function impressed industry and fans alike on CLR’s spring series of vinyls. The duo bring a similar vibe to this remix of Keep Secrets, which adds a new dub element and vocal rework to the original. Percussion is thickened, and all song elements are re-sequenced and reinterpreted for the hardest of DJ sets.

James Ruskin injects the original drum track with a dose of steroids on his remix of Keep Secrets. The resulting impact is big enough to blast the proverbial dust off any Funktion One. Ruskin sets his focus on the synth lead, reminiscent of 90’s techno purity, and adds his own touch of xperimentalism to the resulting form. The unique sequencing of his interpretation becomes clear in its second half when things become serious and slightly solemn. Despite the presentation of darker emotions on this cut, the energy is never compromised. This remix stays dance floor essential and psych ready.

Complicit is an exploration of modern techno and an experiment in musical partnership for contributing members Tanya and Travis Norman. Longtime enthusiastic supporters of Minneapolis talent, the duo was looking for a way to translate that inspiration into a statement of their own. They found it by crafting a production and performance workflow running identical controllers manipulating a single system. The resulting symmetry and real time dynamics, a balancing act of duties divided by frequency range, are allowed to combine in unpredictable ways and evolve along a non-linear timeline, thereby insuring a unique mix at each event.
Early forays into performance have witnessed the duo making good their commitment to manifest a favorite Minneapolis slogan: "Keep Techno Sexy." Whether contributing to the renowned Black nights at First Avenue or to intimate after hours events, the vibe has been sweaty, sultry, and designed for dancing. Fans who witness the extra level of communication evident in non-verbal cues dictating build up and release of the material realize quickly the strength of connection between the two musicians. Meanwhile, the improvisational aspects of the pair's presentation translate to a potent in-the-moment awareness - one that spreads easily from performer to listener, enveloping each in a unified soundscape.

About Go!Diva:
Danielle M. N. Godiva aka GO!DIVA was born in Holland in 1980. She always had a passion for music. When house music got on her way she started to collect vinyl in 1992. A year later she went to her first big rave and started to produce hardcore with some friends. After a few years, DJs like Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, Sven Vath, Richie Hawtin etc. got her back into techno music.
In 2001 she picked up producing again, with simple programs just for fun, so nothing serious. After 16 years of collecting vinyl and going to parties she got her first turntables at the end of 2007. In 2009 she started to play at parties/festivals and soon she realised that her passion for music was more than just a hobby and invested in some hardware and software to use and make music in a more professional way.
GO!DIVA loves all kinds of electronic music, but mainly focus on techno. Her mixes are made with vinyl and Traktor (with timecoded vinyl). For producing she uses ableton, akai apc and vst`s.
2010 started good for GO!DIVA. She made it into the finals of the Next Generation DJ contest. On february the 8th she had her first release `Be Patient` on Lot49 and more releases on Intertech Records, !Organism Records, Redbox Records, NBG-music and Brickwork are scheduled for later this year. On the 16th of february she started her own radioshow `GO!DIVA FM` on fnoob.com .

The Creators Project: Technology and the development of your career have gone hand in hand. What further innovations would you like to see?
B6: So far audiences can only listen to music in two channels, but that’s not enough for me to express my ideas. I want to have more channels to express my music so that we can give audiences different experiences when listening to music. And then I would like to put some elements of philosophy into those devices, such as the concepts of time and space.

And right now you’re focusing on making some of these multi-channel devices that you dream about, correct?
I have two projects. The first one is in cooperation with a furniture company in Germany. They provided some furniture, which was made in 80s and 90s, and I redesigned these pieces into a musical device. It has a microphone people can use to create sounds and make echoes in different ways. The other one is an eight-channel device and involves a painting that I cut into eight pieces. I then positioned these pieces strategically in a room. The way it works—it’s hard to describe—but you can hear only fragments of the music depending on where you’re standing.

Describe the first device you used to make music.
In the beginning we used low-powered computers to make music because we were students; we couldn’t afford good equipment. We just learned how to make music by ourselves and searched lots of information on the internet, even though it hadn’t been well-developed at that time. It was really tough.

You’re also well known for your graphic design work. How did you get into that?
After graduating from college, I worked at an American company and did design but I could not get used to being an employee. I soon quit the job. Personally, I don’t really like graphic design and I don’t think the graphic design market is well developed in China. Another reason I don’t really like graphic design is because you don’t need too many skills to do it. If you can use some easy software, then you can make the design and call yourself a “designer.” It is the violence of visualization. Maybe my works are part of the violence, but I still want to avoid doing something that I don’t agree with.

Yes, but you design posters for your clubbing team Antidote, right? Was forming Antidote a reaction to your feelings about design and music?
The reason we named our team Antidote was because most of the clubbing music in Shanghai was too commercialized at the time, and we didn’t want to our music be like that. We decided on the name to represent the antidote to cure this type of music industry. Right now we have more than 100 posters for Antidote, and people consider these posters trendsetting in Shanghai. The only rule I use to design these posters is: no rules!

This year’s DETROIT ELECTRONIC MOVEMENT FESTIVAL was treated to a special guest appearance by Droid label head Moe Espinosa aka Drumcell. When Radioslave could not make his appearance on the Beatport stage the good people at Paxahau called on Moe for a last minute replacement. His unexpected warm up set for Chris Liebing had confused crowds dancing their hearts out in the pouring rain… in true Detroit fashion. Needless to say he delivered a stellar set that was more then equivalent to his European Fill in. Check below for video evidence of Drumcell serving the Movement audience with pure Droid style.

On a permanent transition

Richie Hawtin is a man permanently in transition. “If you just sit there in one place with your arms crossed thinking that nothing will change, you are already dead,” he says in the following interview. Where other people may sit and wait, he’s making a proactive contribution to progression in techno, in his life, and in ours. The current live show rescues, at last, his raw and acidic minimalist Plastikman project developed in the early days through the Plus8 label. Very soon the show will land at Sónar to flood the night at the Barcelona festival with stroboscopic lights, LEDs curtains and the actualisation of such classics as “Spastik” and “Helikopter”, all in the name of progress, not nostalgia. “I believe there is a void, an emptiness that needs to be filled by Plastikman,” he continues. He’s taking no prisoners. We chatted with Hawtin in Paris, on 9^th May, where he spoke about why he’d rescued Plastikman and the complete graphic and sound renovation of the project, of his vision of the world and plans for the future –in particular a future project called “Replikants”, that until now has been his best kept secret. All this and plenty more are just a click of the play button away.

Ricardo Villalobos cancels Movement 2010, Hawtin to sub in…

Ricardo Villalobos’ scheduled performance this weekend at the Movement Electronic Music Festival Powered by Ford Fiesta has been cancelled, but Richie Hawtin has agreed to perform in his place on the BeatPort Stage Sunday, May 30 from 9 pm until midnight.

Goetz Guse of Cocoon Agency out of Frankfurt, Germany informed festival organizers today that Villalobos will not be able to perform at Movement. Guse said, “Ricardo did not receive his Working VISA back in time due to US immigration Authorities at abroad consulates. Even with precocious legal support from the US as well as from Germany he still wasn’t able to obtain the Working VISA due to unexpected bureaucratic obstacles.”

Movement organizers expressed disappointment about the news regarding Villalobos, but are optimistic festival-goers will enjoy a Richie Hawtin performance as the replacement.

“We are disappointed Ricardo is not able to make it, especially with it being so close to the festival, but the show must continue,” said Jason Huvaere, the executive director of Movement. “However, we are very grateful Richie agreed to fill in. Nowhere else will you get to experience Richie Hawtin presenting Plastikman live one night, and then the next night see an original Richie Hawtin DJ set, it’s going to be truly amazing.”

The Plastikman live performance will be the headliner on the Vitaminwater Main Stage the first night of the festival, Saturday, May 29. It is scheduled for 11 p.m. to midnight. After Hawtin performs a three-hour set on the Beatport Stage, he will be aboard the sold out Voyage Royal: I’m on a Boat 2 after party to perform with DJ Magda in place of Villalobos on the second floor of the Detroit Princess.

Locarini was born in Livorno on March 2nd in 1982. His passion for music begins early in the childhood. His first approach to the audience was in 1996, in a little disco club named “Young Club”, where he started to play music on Sunday’s afternoon. Growing up and having the opportunity to be often in night clubs like the “Imperiale” , he met deejays of international fame,. He was noticed by a Pr who listened to one of his sets and in 1998 the “Imperiale” club proposed him to play in the 3rd room of the club, named “The mirror’s room”. Only 2 weeks later he moved to the main room, initially for the night set beginning and later like deejay resident until the final closure of the club. Through that big opportunity and with the support of other deejays, who were collaborating in the club at that time, he succeed in his musical and technical growth and also on making his own audience who appreciated his music even more. In 2002/2003, thanks to his fame and his singular charisma, he moved on another of the most famous club in the country: the “Insomnia” also named “Discoacropoli D’Italia”. and continued to play in many clubs throughout Italy”.
