Yes, 2012 is finally here, driven by much fanfare in the “P” realms of perspective, projection and of course “prediction”. While I’ll leave the projection and prediction to others, I like to offer some perspective for the astrological year ahead. But first, a brief look back at 2011.

“Critical tension” perhaps best defines 2011. That’s the tension building internally (think "volcano") before something erupts, releases or gives birth. Examples of CT were powerfully vivid in the revolutionary fervor of Middle Eastern and Occupy Movements, the emergence in the US of the Tea Party, intensification of political polarization world-wide, and financial retrenchment in many countries. This social activity was further fueled and magnified by the rapidly expanding social networks, and instant videos of news events by ordinary people. Yes, people are feeling the juice of Uranus in Aries.

On an even bigger stage, the natural world showed us the true meaning of power with "once in a century" floods and droughts, strong earthquake activity, including a 9.1 shake that literally moved Japan 12 feet (4 metres) eastward, and 4 feet (1.25m) lower, and massive tsunami waves related to the Japan earthquake that touched every part of the Pacific Ocean rim. Behind this intensity lies solar activity. The Sun is now moving towards solar maximum in its current cycle with stronger solar eruptions forecast for 2012 into 2013. This portends strong solar energy affecting the entire solar system, and hence, further amplifying an already amplified field.

The last Full Moon of the current season occurs for most of the world on Saturday, December 10th at 4:37 AM in Hawaii, 6:37 AM on the West Coast, 9:37 AM on the East Coast, and 2:37 PM GMT. The Moon completes its Scorpio/Taurus cycle on Nov 24/25 when it meets the Sun at 3 degrees in Sagittarius, the mythical archer. Sagittarius seeks out the truth, desiring to elevate the human vibration to the highest possible spiritual place of awareness. Its energy finds interest in the elevated perspective of the mind, philosophy, religion, distant travel, laws, and especially adventure.

The change of seasons is upon us as the Sun moves into the Cardinal sign of Libra on the 22nd before midnight in Hawaii, and the 23rd for the rest of the world. Approximately 5 days later, the Moon catches up with the Sun on September 27th, activating the Libra New Moon energies for the ensuing 2 weeks.

Equinox or Solstice days serve as theme builders for the ensuing season. Dependent on the potency of that day’s chart, the season will unfold somewhere between a flowing and heightened state.

This particular version is not as intense as the last Equinox (heightened), however, it does continue the Uranus/Pluto square in Aries and Capricorn, respectively, initiated last March.

This on-going theme in effect through 2015 of “change and dissolving” underscores the turmoil and new initiatives seen throughout the world. This month, the Sun in detailed oriented Virgo illuminates the Full Moon in empathic, dreamy, unstructured Pisces at 19 degrees, close to midnight on the 11th in Hawaii, and on September 12, 2011 for the rest of the world.

We arrive at the Cancer New Moon very late on June 30th in Hawaii and Alaska, and on July 1st for the rest of the world. New Moon time is 10:54 pm in the Hawaiian Islands, 1:54 am on the West Coast, 8:54 am GMT, and 5:54 pm in Japan.

At this New Moon, the slightest grazing of the Moon covers the Sun’s disk off the coast of Antarctica, creating a Partial Solar Eclipse, essentially visible by no one. This is the 1st eclipse of a new eclipse cycle spanning the next 1,200 years. For astrologers, new eclipse cycle = a theme setter=pay attention to details.

As with all eclipses and their association with a shadow element or "spines of darkness", the power of "the hidden" is at play. Here, I see the hidden element in the sign of Gemini, courtesy of Venus and the South Lunar node.

Gemini is the eternal trickster and playful actor who uses communication and deft actions to effect either a shift in the energy, or adapt readily to a rapidly changing landscape. The Solstice arrives on June 21, 2011 as the Sun enters the Cardinal astrological sign of Cancer. In Hawaii, Solstice is at 7:16 am; 10:16 am on the Pacific Coast; 5:16 pm Greenwich Mean Time (GMT); and on the 22nd starting at 12:16 am over Vietnam, east to the International Date Line.

Sagittarius Full Moon June 15: The Courageous Quest

Breaking News!!!! Just yesterday, astrophysicist revealed potential life changing information (how timely for the eclipse) about the current and next Solar cycle. In true out of the blue Uranian fashion, the anticipated increase in Sunspot activity in the coming Solar 25 cycle is now considered incorrect. Solar data now shows the Sun's internal activity moving in the opposite direction, towards hibernation. This has come as quite a surprise (and significant at that) to the astronomical community.

A very similar scenario played out in the mid 17th Century. Then, a very quiet Sun (less energy output) led to a "Little Ice Age" during the period 1645 - 1715. During those 70 years, planet Earth experienced very harsh and longer winters. Uncertain in this newly unfolding solar scenario is whether excessive carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (global warming) is sufficient to temporarily offset any potential global temperature drop over the coming decades. Given the Uranian nature of the announcement, I'd say there are a number of wild cards yet to be revealed.

I write this at 35,000 feet flying over the might blue Pacific, en route to Hawaii after a 3 week inner healing journey with Kathryn in eastern Colorado (yes, we were traveling during a Mercury Retrograde, and grace, serendipity and spontaneity were definitely our guides!!!).

As I look out over the seemingly endless expanse of ocean and clouds below, I'm struck by the enormity and beauty of Planet Earth.

From this lofty, serene perspective, I find it hard to fathom an intense societal struggle now rages in various areas of the globe for something new...something different. Yet, the current planetary aspects continue to point distinctly in that direction, creating more and more fuel for evolutionary shift...radical change...passion...and freedom. Can you feel it?

Look back over the past 3 years and reflect how change has impacted your life and those close to you. Does this “look back” fuel a desire for returning to something familiar, tested and seemingly reliable, or add impetus for something new, uncertain, and exciting? Therein lies the polarity of choice now vividly expressed and amplified world-wide.

Three items of note:
Kathryn and I are in Colorado, near Boulder, attending the first of two back-to-back healing weekends with 50 amazing souls. We consider the current astrological cycles as a "prime time" moment to deepen our healing path, enhance our body strategies, and expand our ability to assist others through service in times of great transition.

Virgo Full Moon comes to light on March 19th at 8:10 am in Hawaii, 11:10 PDT, 2:10 pm EDT, 6:10 pm Greenwich Mean Time, It occurs on the 20th in India and east to the International Date Line.
