As a F.O desk clerk in reception and reservation department in hotel , one day I was talking with one of our lovely guests who came from New Zealand as a pilgrim to Nazareth in the Holy Land, when we were sitting in bar of the hotel , after I finished to work of course , I wanted to tell him that many people here ( in the holy land ) don't know where New Zealand is located on our glob! even many of them have never hared about New Zealand, but I didn't know how to tell him that, I was fear for hurting him or them, because all the group, these kindly people where sitting in the lobby bar , then I thought to call the bar tender and to ask him what the capital city of New Zealand ! " amongst I didn't know till that moment " . so Jeris " the bar tender " came nimbleness , " Sure he thought they will give him tip ". I turned to him and asked him, Jeris ,do you know what is the name of New Zealand's capital ? do you believe what his answer was? he asked me do you mean Disney land?! I was so shy at that moment, my face became blushed, But on the contrary, the New Zealand's people just laughed , and the man told him ( and me) It's Wellington, Wellington is New Zealand capital, New Zealand is a bay of islands far from Nazareth he said, and he began to tell him ,me and the other workers who where in the lobby at that evening about New Zealand, he was speaking about the beaches there far on the planet, the gold sand the trees, islands. I start to imagine that is a paradise then I said , you know what ,this month I have to book a trip to New Zealand I must visit it , Mark was very gentleman, he said I invite you ,with your family to spend your holiday in my hose in Evokes !! I was very surprised from his charitable invitation , and from the name Waitangi , it was the first time I hared about this town ! after 25 days in January we landed first in Melbourne International Airport in Australia, we spend 3 unforgettable days in Australia, then we took a flight to Auckland international airport in New Zealand, then we drove to Waitangi .

Spain's Canary Islands are an archipelago of islands in the northern Atlantic Ocean.

The Canaries are volcanic in origin and consist of seven large islands and several smaller islands. It is believed that the last volcanic eruption that helped create the islands happened about 3.5 million years ago.

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands. It plays host to millions of tourists per year. Available accommodations on Tenerife are as varied as the visitors it attracts. Most of the larger towns on Tenerife are resort towns. Some, however, are residential towns that see few tourists.

Los Cristianos, previously a small fishing village, is now one of the largest resorts on the island. Located in the southern part of the island, it is home to mass-market tourism. The architectural feel of the resort town is very typical Canarian.

The town centre is never crowded with cars, as the entire area is pedestrian-only. Both small and large boats share the large port. A wide array of boats can often be seen docking or parked in the bay. The resort has two large beaches and lots of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops to choose from.

Its nearest neighbor is Playa de las Americas, a slightly smaller and more subdued Tenerife holidays area.

Playa de las Americas began as a man-made beach with a few hotels about 30 years ago. Sand imported from the Sahara desert helped provide the foundation for the resort and beaches. Today it is one of the largest resorts on Tenerife. Not quite as large or robust as its neighbor Los Cristianos, Playa de las Americas boasts more private beaches and a quieter atmosphere. The resort offers a vibrant night life, but also caters to families. Many karaoke bars offer great entertainment for young and old alike.

Clubs in the town also offer a variety of shows like medieval night, which includes knights, jousting and sword-fighting. Also available are ballet and flamenco shows. Some clubs offer an alcohol-free atmosphere for younger visitors.

La Oratava is one of the most private get-away towns on Tenerife. It is not overrun with tourists, bars or trinket shops.

Founded in the 16th century, the town still holds an old town appeal. The buildings that line the narrow streets are of a wide variety of renaissance, baroque, Arabic, neoclassicist, eclectic and modern architectures.

La Hijuela del Botanico, the botanical garden, displays more than 3,000 tropical plants from various tropical zones around the world. The surrounding rural areas are filled with plantations and trails that lead to the forests and mountains.

Puerto de la Cruz is a large tourist resort on the northern part of the island.

It is a mere 10-minute drive across beautiful countryside from La Oratava. The Puerto de la Cruz resort began as a port for La Oratava and the export of bananas from nearby plantations.

La Oratava, Esperanza forest and Mount Teide offer amazing views from the variety of hotels in Puerto de la Cruz. Due to its volcanic origins, black sand beaches offer a very unique beach experience.

It is not recommended that you swim in the ocean on the northern side of the island, as there is no reef to protect the shores from harsh tides and sweeping currents. Instead, Puerto de la Cruz has a large open-air seawater swimming pool called 'Lago de Martianez.'

Variety is abundant on Tenerife. Some resorts offer more privacy, which may be desirable to families or couples looking for a quiet getaway.

Others offer a different kind of hustle and bustle than tourists may be accustomed to in their everyday lives.

At any time during your Tenerife holiday, you can find a multitude of cultural celebrations to observe. The abundance of museums, galleries and natural attractions can keep a family quite busy learning about the many aspects of the Canary Islands.

Cheap Hotels - Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Hotels Discount

Some advice on finding discount hotel rates in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.As a hotel owner myself, I feel somewhat qualified to pass on a little advice on finding the best room rates for your next stay in Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo.

If you arrived at this page looking for list of super cheap hotel rates, I am sorry to disappoint. There are a million sites offering the "Cheap Rates on Ixtapa Zihuatanejo Hotels". Yeah, right. There can only be one "best". It's the one you are happy with.

Anyway, if you are still reading, here are a few random ideas:

Call the hotel directly.

If you know precisely which hotel you want to stay at, try and find a local phone number for them. Very soon I will be posting a list of all the hotels, casas, condos, bungalows, villas, hostels and rooms that I have telephone numbers for.

This tip is particularly true for the small bungalows or boutique hotels. Calling the hotel will probably put you in touch with the owner, and you can be sure that they are perfectly aware that they do not have to pay a commission to an on line booking agent, (or a local cab driver). Expect at least 10% flexibility - it doesn't cost them anything to give you a discount equal to the commission they would normally have to pay.

Negotiate.

Mexican commerce is built on negotiation. There is nothing inherently insulting or wrong about negotiating a better price. If fact, to the contrary, it is expected. I could probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of Mexican guests who have stayed in my bungalows in Zihuatanejo who have not negotiated a rate (or at least tried to!). On the other hand, the reverse holds true for American and Canadian guests.

I am never offended by this. It is a way of life. Obviously a guest wants the best rate they can get for their accommodation, as does the owner. As a guest, remember one thing: the owner will never rent a room for less than they are happy with receiving!

This of course is impossible with the large, chain hotels.

Make a "high-season" reservation in the "low-season".

The months of May/June and September/October are the lowest seasons in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo. Everyone is broke, or nearly so, and are therefore more inclined to discount at these times. Running a hotel is expensive and never stops! Neither do the wages! Be prepared to leave a large deposit though - you will get a better discount in the future is they have cash-in-hand now.

Make a reservation in the evening.

Almost every hotel in the world will cancel a reservation if you don't show up by 6pm, unless of course your room is guaranteed by a credit card. This of course will only work if you are already in Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo, or are going to arrive shortly.

With the smaller hotels, notably in Zihuatanejo, a cancellation may mean that the owners have held back some or all of the guest's deposit. You may find them more interested in giving you a discounted rate. Typically, a 50% deposit is required up front and they will only refund 80-90% of it if the room is re-rented.

Try second best.

The big hotels, like practically all the hotels in Ixtapa, always have a few rooms "out of order". Perhaps they are on the maintenance list to fix a faucet, replace a tile in the bathroom etc. If you tell the manager that are happy to take this sub-standard room, you may just get it, for a discount of course!

In the same vein is the idea of picking a cheaper hotel in the area. Let's say you want to be on Playa La Ropa (in Zihuatanejo), but your preferred hotel is asking $350 a night - well beyond your budget. 200 meters away is a perfectly good, but not as fancy, hotel that is asking $200 a night. Remember! Same beach, same sun, and you likely won't be spending that much time in the hotel anyway. Get out and explore! If you are staying in Ixtapa, jump a bus to Zihuatanejo, you'll enjoy it,

Consider other hotel types.

Most of us feel more "secure" reserving a room in a big, well-known hotel. In Ixtapa, you will find all the big chain hotels. Zihuatanejo generally has smaller hotels. There are many 1 to 10 room properties around. There are also condos, houses, apartments, bungalows, guest houses and the like. Playa La Ropa and Playa La Madera, in Zihuatanejo, are full of options.

Book one night up front.

Warning: Do NOT try this during Christmas, New Year's, Easter or summer vacations. All the hotels, and even the worst rooms, are booked for these holidays in both Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. You could find yourself sleeping on the street (on the beach, no, it's prohibited).

If you are not familiar with Ixtapa or Zihuatanejo, or think you can get a better rate while you are "on the ground", think about reserving only one night at any promising hotel. Once you are here, you can then:

Decide whether the location you picked is where you would like to stay. Maybe Ixtapa is not to your cup of tea after all and you would rather have a hotel in Zihuatanejo. You make also want to read my article on how to Choose a Hotel in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.

Ask around and investigate other options and negotiate a price you are happy with. The previous tips about cancellations applies.

Another Caution: DO NOT TAKE ADVICE from the friendly guy on the beach, the cab driver or the waitress that offers to show you her "amigo's" hotel. They almost always are in it for the commission. On the other hand, if you do wind up having a conversation with someone who is not handing you a flyer, hustling you into a taxi or even worse, selling a time-shares, listen to them.
