A new ride for spring time

So Star Trek killed me. I'm pretty sure I aged like 5 years in 6 months of working on it. I'm finally back shaping and glassing, it feels good. I decided to shape myself a board I've always wanted. A noserider type, but with a piggish outline. Main thing I hate about noseriders is that they seem so slow, and they all have way too wide of a nose. I guess that's what makes them a noserider...

So here's my take on it. It's all lammed up, gotta hot coat it/ sand then put some color on it. Playing with fin templates as well. Stoked to test it out next week!

The 2nd annual Pig Luau at San-O. This was such an awesome time. It had all the ingredients for a guaranteed great time, surfing various pig(ish) boards, beer, new friends, and ofcourse a freshly cooked, whole pig on a wire bedframe. I missed the campsite and walked straight down to the beach on trail 4. I automatically saw Johnny suiting up with a handful of others. I did a quick scan and realized I was about to head out into a surf session with some surf legends which included Gene Cooper, KP, and one of my heroes Brian Hilbers. It was so bizarre. It was also the maiden voyage of my self made "doldrums" pig I made. I caught enough waves to realized it caught waves great, and turned on a dime, but I need to play with fin placement and even fin replacement to really dial it in here at Porto. I met Mateo Plummer who I later found out was Casanova in Invasion from Planet C! YES! My board almost took his head off when I lost grip of it on a close out, then he almost returned the favor! Saw one of my old Gato's sitting on the beach randomly. Felt weird, wanted to grab it and say "hey! that's mine!" Awesome time. You missed out if you weren't there.

I'm making this guy for Mike Black's SurfAPig Pig Luau coming up in 2 weeks. I took some elements of the Terry Martin Chip I have and applied it to this one. I ended up giving it a wider bottom half. I haven't taken the final measurements yet, but it's 9'4'' in length and almost 22'' at it's wide point in the butt. Reverse rocker and flat as hell nose. Going to glass it up with clear volan. No color on this one. Color is for pansies. Or I'm just getting lazy.

Stringerless RacerX 5'10''x19.75''x2.5''

Glassed with 6oz deck with a 4oz patch in the mid. Bottom is 6oz with 4oz reinforced rails in the mid. Double hot coated for strength. This board is a total experiment. Always wanted to try a stringerless board, but never wanted to pay the price tag for something that could ride like crap. I'm hoping there's going to be tons of flex throughout the tail. I have it setup for a quad, but I am running it as a twinzer first with the Future Keels K1's.

This puppy is done and ready for some swell. (hopefully winter isn't TOTALLY over)

Took a stab at a wood inlay to hold the dimensions of the board. My wood burning skills need some practice.

Thanks to Adam Davenport for some hotcoat tips. This thing came out nice. As Patrick Swayze would say(rip) "just waitin' for my swell"

The latest. Something a bit more familiar. Had this idea for a longtime and seeing some of creations from Kookbox and JW made me finally want to make it. First Layer of glass. 6oz+ 4oz deck patch 3/4 up from the nose and a 6oz layer on the bottom. I want this thing to go fast and be able to turn by shifting a toe. I kept the board flat, with almost no nose rocker because Mr. Popp says the worst thing on a single fin shorty/midlength is when they have "a stupid banana nose" ..and I agree with him. 6'4''x 19 3/4'' x 3in'' x 15 1/8'' x 12 1/2'' Can't wait to take this thing out!

Calling this the Hunter Gatherer. Not really for the sake of being clever in that it'll probably catch waves easy, but mainly for the lam. A guy I once knew had this idea to get a dear and a bear tattooed on each arm oriented this way. I always thought that would be awesome, so I drew it up real fast how I thought it should look. Anyway...already got a tattoo where the dear would go on my left arm, so here it is on a board.
