INC Unity Games 2012

The INC Unity Games started last year with the inaugural games held May 21 and 28, 2011, in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, with the athletes coming from the five ecclesiastical districts in Metro Manila, Philippines: Metro Manila North, Metro Manila South, Metro Manila East, Metro Manila West, and Metro Manila Central. I'm glad to be part of the event not as an athlete but as member of the documentation team.

The INC Unity Games is a multi-sport and multi-district event and the largest athletic competition hosted for members of the Iglesia ni Cristo. This is brainchild of by the Church’s Executive Minister, Brother Eduardo V. Manalo.

The events included badminton, basketball, bowling, chess, table tennis, tennis, track and field, volleyball, and a 3K Fun Run, with many of the events telecast live on NET 25.

This year, the conference games will start on Saturday, January 21 with the following groupings, schedule and venues:

3rd Umami Culinary Challenge

Dubbed as the Battle for the Umami Bowl, the Ajinamoto's 3rd Umami Culinary Challenge will be on January 20, 2012, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm at the SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia.

Highlights of the event:

This inter-school culinary competition, which is the first of its kind, will showcase 29 universities and colleges offering HRM and Nutrition course as well as well-know culinary schools. Judging the competitions are Sandy Daza (Inquirer columnist and TV show host), Chef Babes Austria (Executive Chef of Taal Vista Hotel and former Executive Chef of Malacañang Palace),Chef James Antolin (Vice President of Pastry Alliance of the Philippines), Chef Day Salonga and Chef Mon Acosta (Chef Consultants for opening new restaurants), Nina Daza-Puyat (Editor in Chief, Appetite Magazine), Chef Seiji Kamura (Executive Chef and owner of Mogu Japanese Restaurant), Vicky Alejandrino, (Head of Quality Assurance and Commissary for the Pancake House Group), Chef Colin McKay (Executive Chef and owner of Sala Restaurant Group) and Tetta Arroyo (Travel and Food Writer) among others.

To make my husband's homecoming memorable and special, I am arranging a out-of-town family vacation. My top 5 choices of places to be visited are Bicol, Bohol, Cebu, Tagaytay and Subic.
Enroll my daughter Thea in Makati's SMART (Sports, Music, Arts and Recreation Training) Program this summer.
Work harder for more additional income (from blogging, direct selling)
Go back to graduate school
Lose weight
Buy a portable sewing machine to earn how to sew linens (bed sheets, pillow cases, curtains and other)
Save more for our children's education and other future needs
I consider blogging as a relaxing hobby. So, I will blog more often.

A Glimpse of 2011: My Year-ender Report

Year 2011 is filled with ups and downs, triumphs and trials but with God's guidance, I was able to surpassed all the challenges. As I welcome another year, let me share the milestones during the past year.

January

We celebrated New Year with Papa. Baby Yohan is not the picture though because he was sleeping during the picture-taking.

It was only on January when we first witness Yohan's rolling over. By the way, here is a photo of him and Thea "talking to each other", isn't it so cute?

February

Headstart School of Mandaluyong's Foundation Week. Thea and her classmates performed a folk dance called La Jota. Proud parents as we are, Papa was her official photographer while yours truly was the stylist/make-up artist :D

Papa left for another year overseas job on February 28, 2011. Another year of being away from him. We're expecting his homecoming on April 2012, in time for our daughter's 6th birthday.

March

March, start of summer 2011 was a month filled with unforgettable events such as the 31st Anniversary of Mandaluyong (Iglesia Ni Cristo) Locale. Thea and I were part of the program, I was part of the choir while Thea dance Itik-Itik together with other officers.

March 30, 2011 - Thea's Kindergarten Graduation Ceremonies held at Mandaluyong City Gymnasium. Another step ahead in the education ladder. I know, she still have a long way to go but I am thankful that she completed Kindergarten and getting closer to entering big school. As promised, we ate a her favorite Jollibee after the graduation.

This is also the month when I registered as a Franchise Dealer/Sales Representative of Avon Products, Inc.. I am happy to part of the company for empowered women and earning extra for my family.

Japan was hit by 8.9 magnitude earthquake last March 11, 2011 and followed by a destructive tsunami and nuclear crisis that killed thousands of people. Philvocs even issued a Tsunami Alert Level in Philippine Coastline and gave the list of affected areas including my hometown Sorsogon.

I lost my Samsung Star Wifi phone last March 5, 2011 while riding in a bus bound to EDSA Quezon Avenue. I was victimized by a snatcher. Thank God I was not hurt despite attempting to chase the snatcher.

April

My kids and I attended Expo Kid 3, a one-day event organized by Mommy Mundo in Rockwell Tent last April 2. Thea had a blast trying each and every activity in the fun booths.

I attended a three-day Gender Sensitivity Workshop on April 7-9, 2011 at Club Balay Isabel Resort in Batangas. We really enjoyed and learned a lot from the workshop.

We celebrated Thea's 5th birthday at home. It was a simple family gathering. We also invited some of her playmates. As a gift I bought an inflatable pool for her.

My family, together with my office mates enjoyed in our summer escapade in Bosay Resort Antipolo on April 29, 2011.

May

May 2011 is a very important date for me and my blogging hobby. I celebrated my 34th birthday and as a gift to myself, I created a blog under my own domain entitled About Makati City and my kids blog Eat, Sleep and Play. The latter's domain was purchased via GoDaddy courtesy of my dear friend, Jheng of Black Sheep's Lair.

I seldom attend blogger events, so when my friend Earth invited me I took the opportunity to attend the DOH Breastfeeding TSEK Bloggers Engagement.

I am happy and proud to be part of the first-ever INC Unity Games conducted on May 21 and 28, 2011 at Rizal Memorial Stadium.

Back to school! Thea transferred to a new school so we had some adjustments like buying new uniforms. I also attended the Parents Orientation.

July

I learned something new, that is, joining Google+.

I was amazed by my daughter's performance in their "sing and dance" number during the Nutrition Month program. She also sung Mine by Taylor Swift and Firework by Katy Perry on her cousin's 18th birthday bash held at Legend Villas.

August

My husband and I celebrated the 6th wedding anniversary on August 20. Nothing grand celebration happened since he's miles away from us. I am looking forward to celebrating our anniversary together this coming year.

I entered a new venture - another additional source of income. My friend asked me to advertise Hongkong, Boracay and Puerto Princesa tour packages on my blogs.

I attended a planning workshop in Holiday Inn Clark together SK Federation officials of Makati City during the last weekend of August. My office mates and I planned to extend our weekend to Baguio. Too bad, the weather prevented us to go up North. With the cancellation of our travel, I also missed meeting some bloggers from the City of Pines.

September

I was one of the millions of Filipinos who voted online for Shamcey Supsup, our Ms. Universe contender who won 3rd Runner-up in the beauty tilt.

October

I missed my regular blog updates due to several visits to my doctor due to gall bladder problem. I thought I'll undergo surgery but after taking medications, the symptoms slowly went away. Thanks God for helping me overcome this major battle.

November

My son celebrated his First Birthday on November 4th. We had a small party at home with Angry Bird theme

The much-awaited PMC Grand EB 2 happened last November 22, 2011 at Aling Tonya's Seafood Restaurant in D. Macapagal Blvd. , Pasay City. A total of 48 moms attended the event. It's really nice to finally put faces to the blogs I regularly visit. Each mom went home with more than two bag of tokens (from other moms) and loot bags from our generous sponsors. I can't forget how the venue turned into a little Divisoria during the exchange of tokens, hahaha.

December

December 9, UDD Superheros Nights: Year-end Party at ACCI, Rockwell. It was a cosplay-like event where my group (division) picked the Japanese Superheros theme. We chose the 80's hit - Shaider. Shigi Shigi!!! :D

December 30- our Locale's year-end get-together at Kaban ng Hiyas, Mandaluyong City. The event started at 6:30 pm and ended at around 9pm.

Though I got tired during the fun-filled celebration, I had to get up early to prepare our Media Noche (New Year's Eve) menu.

Victims of Typhoon Sendong (Washi) from Mindanao Needs our Help

I had a very busy weekend. I performed in the choir during our Church's Year-end Thanksgiving Worship Services. I accompanied my daughter in her school. While I was waiting for my her, I overheard some mommies talking about the damage that Typhoon Sendong (international code name Washi) has brought to Mindanao. They mentioned about the Ondoy-like flash floods. I confirmed the news when I tuned in to TV Patrol Weekend on Saturday night. There were more than 600 dead bodies and almost a thousand missing. As of the latest news, death toll is more than 900. Many of our kababayans lost their homes and properties, and their loved ones. In times like this, they really need our help, whether in cash or in kind.

Our blogger community called Pinay Mommies Community is rallying for donations to help the victims and their families. We also have fellow bloggers from Cagayan de Oro and Iligan City who were affected with the devastating flash flood. This morning, I sent a small amount via PayPal.

With my present health condition, the doctors have advised me to lose weight through proper diet and exercise. By doing so, painful attacks of my gallbladder problem will be lessened. The Pinay Mommies Community (PMC) Grand Eyeball 2

Pinay Mommies Community (PMC) is a continuously growing community of Filipina moms who share one passion which is blogging. PMC started last January 21, 2008 as a blog post by its founder Ruby aka Pinay Mommy Online, then a domain and directory of its members were setup.A forum was also created but rendered obsolete with the advent of social networking sites, such as Facebook.

PMC hold its first ever grand eyeball (GEB) last April. Some of the moms I know were present at the event. When I saw there photos on Facebook I told them that I really want to be part of the community. That was the time when Mommy Ruby added me to the PMC Group Page. Since then I became more active in the members interaction via Facebook. I am truly grateful to be part of PMC because of the many tips on blogging and online money-making opportunities from the members. PMC inspired me to take my blogging career to a higher level, that's why for the longest time of dreaming of having my own domain, I finally bought one last May 2011. The blog entitled About Makati City is a travel and info blog which I considered as my gift to myself during my birthday last May. :)

After months of planning and organizing, the 2nd Grand EB of PMC was successfully conducted last November 22, 2011 at Aling Tonya's Seafood Restaurant, D. Macapagal Avenue Pasay City.

During the second part of the program, our founder Ruby Ricafrente talked about PMC and its Vision. She introduced the future endeavors of the community which include charity works as well as the launching of PR Moms Network.

The room was transformed into the a Mini-Divisoria during the raffle and exchange of tokens. Every mom has more than two bags of goodies containing loot bags, raffle prizes and of course, tokens. Here's what I got!

Iglesia Ni Cristo Metro Manila East District's Palaro ng Lahi 2011

First of all, I want to greet our beloved Brother Eduardo V. Manalo who celebrated his birthday last Monday, October 31, 2011. INC brethren all over the world are united in praying to God to continue bless our Executive Minister.

In line with this, we conducted an one-day sports fest dubbed as "Palaro ng Lahi" at the Marikina Sports Center. Famous Pinoy sports and games that we used to play when we're still young were showcased during the activity. These include Patintero, Palo Sebo, Siato, Dodge Ball, Pinoy Football, Tug of War, and Kite Flying, among others. It was a fun-filled event and served as a venue for family bonding and for meeting new friends, too. As early as 6:30, the whole clan wearing purple shirts (our team color) traveled from Mandaluyong City to the venue.

My Health Status

I've been "missing in action" lately due to health problems. Two weeks ago, I had cough and cold. Then, I am suffering from pain in my tummy since Monday. At first I thought it was just another acid reflux attack. To be sure of the real cause of it, I decided to seek medical advice. The doctor instructed me to undergo whole abdomen ultrasound and so I did yesterday. I felt anxious about the findings because according to the results there are multiple stones in my gallbladder and a small myoma in my uterus. I am praying that these gallstones and myoma can be removed naturally. I am afraid of surgery.

With my present health status, I think I am reaping the fruits of my carelessness specially during college days. I am not getting any younger, therefore I have to take care of my health in the best way I can. I have to do this for the sake of my loved ones, too.

I asked my friends who have the same condition. They told me that drinking apple juice can help eliminate gallstones.

My next doctor appointment will be on Thursday... Hugs and prayers for me please.

Cough and Acid Reflux Attack

Due to my hectic schedule and bad weather conditions last month, I caught the flu virus and been coughing for more than a week now. Thanks God, my X-ray result proved that my condition is not leading to pneumonia, as doctor suspected. Aside from cough and colds, my acid reflux is becoming active again. I'm suffering from an upset stomach since Monday and because of this I can't concentrate on my work. I also have several blog backlogs. Aside from that, my creative juice is down to zero that I cannot start the layouts for my son's birthday party invites and banner. :( I have so much to do, but I just can't concentrate. Hope that I'll be okay this coming weekend to focus on preparing for my son's big day.

I was one of the few customers who had the chanced to browse and learn about the new and exciting features of the website. I am anticipating a very busy weekend. In fact, starting tonight I have several things to do with regard to my blogging "career". First on my list is the write-up on the blogger's event I attended last night. I've been meaning to join to some contests/giveaways shared by my blogger friends, too. an anodyne makes you feel good...what??? gah! my fingers are too tired to type already but I really have to work hard to earn extra bucks. My son will be celebrating his birthday next month and there are lots of get together coming up.

"The world has lost a visionary", said US President Barrack Obama in his statement on the death of Steve Job, co-founder and former CEO of Apple, Inc. Jobs also served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios.

He has brought a lot of better things in the world through his technological inventions and innovations, from Apple computer in the 1970s to iPad and iPhone today along with myriad of Apple Apps. His name was always mentioned by my professors in technology management courses. Truly he is an icon when it comes to creativity, innovation, management and success.

Apple confirmed the death of Steve Jobs in Wednesday. The homepage of Apple website was transformed into a full page display of Jobs's photo along with text " Steve Jobs 1955-2011 and clicking the photo will lead to the official statement of Apple, Inc. which reads:

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to know and work with Steve have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor. Steve leave behind a company that he could have built and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.
