Happy Festivus!

2011-12-23T14:24:00.001-08:00

According to a classic Seinfeld episode "The Strike" December 23rd is officially "festivus.". In the show George reveals to Elaine and Jerry that his father invented a holiday called Festivus, an alternative to what he considered to be the over-commercialized holiday of Christmas. This ridiculous notion seems to still be on people's minds nearly 14 years later as many are still mentioning the idea today on twitter, social media and blogs across the Internet. People seem to still hold certain tv shows from the 90's still close to their hearts.

This month being Christmas those who are very devout joined this March. But that's not the only reason they were walking. The thousands that joined together were also marching for change in their communities using spirituality as a way to bring them together. Local leader Sergio Carranza said the march is "geared to raising public awareness, and protecting and improving the environmental health conditions of these rural communities." Coachella remains a spiritual and liberal meeting-ground for many as is seen today, but also at the annual Coachella Festival in August that is visited by people all around the world. People seem to be grouping together all over America this fall to fight whether it be Occupy Wall Street or even just changes in their local communities.
