My Kmart Fashion Debut!

Kmart started a web series called "Show Us What You Got: A Self Makeover Series". Yours truly was one of the individuals cast for the series! So they Came to Philly to check me out!! I took some of my items and mixed it with some pieces that are sold at Kmart to show that you can find Fashion EVERYWHERE!!

Many people talk about finding cute pieces at Target...I think fewer people think about Kmart. Well I'm here to tell you that Kmart has equally cute things and have also paired with celebritys to carry their personal lines in store! One being Sofia Vergara who is an actress and model. Sofia appreciates women of ALL different shapes and sizes, her clothing line is for ALL women.

This was such a great oppurtunity for me! I had a blast filming and was able to talk about fashion and how it goes hand in hand with beauty and makeup! You can view episodes 6, 7 and 8 featuring me below...just click the arrow. My Philly folks! LOVE YALL!! :)

BEAUTY TIP OF THE DAY

When lining your eyes with eyeliner, stay as close to your lash line as possible. This will create a starter line and you can build from there. You can keep it thin or make it as thick as you like! You can choose any type of liner, pencil, gel or liquid and the technique is the same. Remember practice makes perfect! Take your time, applying eyeliner is a marathon not a race..lol...pace yourself and you will find that you have created a perfectly defined, lined eye! ;)

Hey everybody,

I recently had an opportunity to catch up with Katie Griffin who is the owner of One Bride To Another. One Bride To Another is a fab online store for brides to be!

First let me tell you a little about Katie Griffin. Katie has worked in the entertainment industry since she was a child. In the last 10 years, she's built a successful business casting television, film, commercials and music videos in New York, Miami and Philadelphia.

Her projects have taken her around the world and can be seen on Style Network, TLC, VH1, Discovery, HGTV, OWN and Sprout. She's finally returned to her hometown of Philly to settle down.

I interviewed Katie Griffin to learn more about her new online bridal store One Bride To Another, check it out below!

Yari: Katie where did you get the idea for your bridal site?

Katie: The idea for this business was sparked when I stared at the mountain of boxes containing an entire wedding taking up prime real estate in my living room. At first I tried my hand at selling my stuff on some of the better known online marketplaces, but i didn't like the idea of a mega-company taking a pretty substantial commission from the hard work I put into the display, description, posting, daily monitoring, tweaking etc. That's when I decided to create a site where brides could sell their brand new and once-used goods in a beautiful forum with beautiful pictures all while leaving the hard work to a professional. From One Bride To Another is an upscale wedding resale site tailored to the budget bride with expensive taste.

Engagement Ring

Over the years, I've enjoyed the pleasure of casting hundreds of couples on wedding and home improvement shows for Style Network, TLC, HGTV, and OWN. I've made the dreams of many budget bride and grooms come true. So it only made sense that I marry two of my loves (weddings + discounts) with the creation of this site.

Yari: What types of items can people purchase on your site?

Katie: I've got everything from the engagement to the love nest and from the ring to the dishtowels. Check out my collections that are continuing to grow every week..Engagement, Shower, Rehearsal, Ceremony, Reception, Honeymoon, Love Nest. You'll find some really beautiful and unique pieces, all wedding related.

Yari: Where do the items come from?

Katie: Whether they're brand new or once used, these goodies have enjoyed the comforts of loving homes in their former lives. All of the items in my collections are from one bride or another.

There are a number of online resale marketplaces who do not monitor the quality of goods being sold on their sites. What makes my site different from those resale sites is that I inspect and hand-select the "best of the best" to meet the standards of my discerning brides. I do my best to select items in pristine condition.

   I am very realistic, however, in that a once-worn bridal gown may have the slightest markings or frays. I am very honest and up front about the condition of my goods and include that information in each and every description.

   As of August 2012, I'll open the consignment process for other brides. If you've got a bridal gown you've never worn or received a mixer you cant return, try your hand at selling them through my site.

   I make the process fun and fabulous for my clients. I'll produce a highly professional photo shoot so your unwanted items will look better than new. I'll also do the leg work by creating detailed descriptions for your items and advertising.

Yari: Can the items be purchased through the site?

Katie: Absolutely!

Yari: What is the average cost for some of the items you offer?

Katie: Since I offer everything from the ring to the dish towels, the prices range. The average discount on items are 40% off the original price.

Yari: Can brides to be come view items and try things on in person?

Katie: I'll be offering private appointments in 2013 with the expansion of the business. However, I do my best to communicate sizes and measurements and provide detailed photos of my items with each customer.

Yari: Does your site refer other services brides might need? Catering, bakeries, makeup artists, photographers, banquet halls...etc?

Katie: I have a For Your Consideration page where I refer my customers to some of the best vendors in the business. As I mentioned earlier, I've cast many wedding and home improvement shows and have been fortunate enough to work with the most talented, reputable and respected individuals out there. I look forward to collaborating with some of these vendors to offer my customers discounted services for their big day.

I have been having technical difficulties with my blog. I wasn't able to sign in to post new topics...I finally figured out why! I'm so glad...there are sooooooo many new things to talk about! Hey everybody! I recently worked on the set of the HOT new video for Jeff Bradshaw! His new album is coming this fall titled "Bone Appetit"! His first video of this hot new project is "Till Tomorrow". It featured the creative sounds and genius of Rahem DeVaughn and the 16 bar flows of the beautiful Ms. Jade!! I was fortunate enough to be chosen as the MUA on this project and had a full blast!!! Here are some behind the scene and on set pictures that were taken over the course of the 2 day video shoot!

Good morning! Boy oh boy have I missed you guys! I am finding a little more time to blog in my schedule. I'm sorry that I have been MIA but being a makeup artist has its truly busy moments and let me tell you...I HAVE BEEN BOOKED and BUSY. I'm not complaining...trust me I love that so many trust me with their special occasions and creative ventures! Enough of that lol.

The point that brings me blogging today is Nail Polish. I am totally addicted to finding certain colors for the summer. All summer long, and I do mean ALL summer I have been on the hunt for the perfect pale Coral nail color. It is a very difficult thing for me to find. They are always too Orange or too Pink. When I see someone with the perfect color I'm looking for they say they don't know the name of it and they don't know who makes it. Now there could not be that many people with the same answer, so I started thinking...hmmmmmmm. The next person I saw with the polish I asked the same question, they had the same answer. I asked what the bottle looked like she said "it was round" that didn't help much lol. I asked what the name of the brand was and she said "I don't remember"....here we go again, same thing every time. I thanked her and walked away...she said "hey, I don't know the name but I can give you the number to the salon where I got my nails done!" Well alrighty then now we're talking lol!

I find my way to the Nail Salon that we shall call "Nameless". I'm so excited...I ask about the polish and they ignore me. Yes you heard me right!!!!! I ask again and get the we don't have any response. That is not the answer you want to hear when you've been searching all summer! I kept digging with questions, finally she said "that's a special color I make for the salon"!...(now we're getting somewhere) I'm thinking problem solved...cool whip me up a bottle and I'll buy it from you (simple right??) NOT!!! She says "no only for salon, only for salon"!
Really lady?? Is it really that serious?? Lol! If you know me at all you know I had a response! I said "why are you yelling at me? Keep your polish! You're not the only one who can make a nail polish! I'm creative! I'll make my own polish and it will be better!" Lol...that's just what I did!

I went to the supply store and found starter colors in Coral and Peach, grabbed a bottle of White and got to mixing!!!! I went and got small funnels and put my custom color in polish bottles. Now I know this was long and detailed but the moral of this story is, don't tell me NO..I will find a way! Lol!

Well let me first start by saying I MISS YOU GUYS!!! I have been sooooooo busy working in my craft and haven't had time to blog about anything! Don't get me wrong I'm by no means complaining...I'm just saying!
I promise I will not stay away this long again :) I enjoy blogging and keeping you up to speed with what's happening in the beauty world. I will be posting about new products I've grown to love! I will definitely make time to give you new products and beauty tips over the weekend. You will be updated and caught up!

Makeup show NYC 2011

Thanks for your patience! Being an artist is a busy job when you are booked! Yes! Soooooooo...where did we leave off? Well....
After chatting with Jamaal Buster theLash Guru, I ventured inside the Metropolitan Pavilion Show Room floor! It was jammed packed with every person desiring to know more and wanting new products! Let me tell you this show did not disappoint! The first vendor I ran into was Makeup Forever! Love them! Besides wanting to meet Sam Fine, Makeup Forever was my number one priority.

Makeup Forever is a true artistry line with soooooo much to offer! I snagged the HD foundation, makeup primer, eye shadows, concealers, and palettes to fill with my favorite colors! Fabulous!

I also picked up an Air Brush system by Luminess. I stopped by the Temptu air brush system booth also. I went with Luminess system because they had a super deal that I couldn't see passing up! My next air brush venture will definitely be the Temptu which has a line of silicone based foundations. Variety is the spice of life! ;)

I had a wonderful time at the Makeup Show and will absolutely be attending again next year! I will blog about the makeup and air brush system that I picked up! I will give you my feedback about everything! Stay tuned!

Makeup Show NYC 2011.

I planned to attend this years show...I was almost deterred by the rain. :( I really didn't want to miss this event!! There were so many things I wanted to see, people I wanted to meet and new things I wanted to learn about. So I geared up in my rain boots, grabbed my umbrella and headed to the train station!!! Let me tell you that I am so happy that I went! WOW!!!

As soon as I jumped out of the cab I run smack into Jamaal Buster!!! THE lash GURU too the stars! This was not my first time meeting Jamaal but I was still so happy to see him standing there! We chatted a bit...I asked him was he coming in and he said he was but that he was waiting for Sam Fine who was pulling up any minute!! Well blow me down!!! My FAVORITE MUA!!! I was so excited!!! I'll get back to that story later....

Just when you thought they thought of everything! This is not a new product...but...I love it all the same. Not only is this lip balm hydrating, it smells yummy, it has an spf20 built in...and the packaging is pretty darn cute! This balm comes in yummy flavors just like the water! The balm is slightly glossy. It contains Vitamin E, it moisturizes, revitalizes your lips and protects against environmental damage.

As I mentioned before, it's not a new product but it does it's job. You can find this balm at Target, Urban Outfitters, and many other drugstores. Depending where you purchase it, the price varies. I've seen it as low as $5.99 for the jumbo size and as high as 8.99. Target so far has been the least expensive.

These design strips are actual nail polish! The best part is you don't have any drying time! That works for me...that means I can do my nails and go right to sleep.
