Well hey there. I didn't mean to take a five day blogging break-- promise. I knew this morning (ahem, afternoon...its summer, ha) I would have a chance to sit down and write a little. Man does it feel good. Its so easy to realize how much I actually love blogging when I don't post for a few days.

So yeah, saying that-- I've been SO swamped you guys. A good busy, but a busy nonetheless. I've been taking extra shifts at a winery (helllooo weddings every weekend), and my weekdays are spent cleaning and preparing to leave for the summer, studying my passport curriculum and catching up with a few friends in town.

//Have you all tried the new Evolution Fresh juices? I think they're my new thing. I used to be a big supporter of the Naked Juice, but I pretty sure I've converted. The Naked juices carry twenty something grams of sugars while that baby up there only has 8. And for being mostly veggies, its pretty yummy too. Not too shabby. (sidenote:: I do think I got a few stares drinking it though-- I may or may not have brought that into the movie theater with me. what's popcorn?)

//As I mentioned earlier, Suzi and I went to DC for the day! I was super fun and I can't wait to share photos soon. I took a disposable camera. Yup. I was determined to bring them back. Keyword was. That thing is costing me $11.00 to get developed. I mean duuuuude. C'mon.

//This photo was taken while driving before I got into the thick of the fog. Yeah yeah, shame on me for taking a picture. But you guys- have you ever driven in fog? Okay probably. What about really dense fog at 2:15am with rain? Like a fog that's so thick you can't even see the reflectors on the road? That's what I dealt with after work for two nights in a row this past weekend. Ahhh never again.

Speaking of best things... I'm up bright and early this morning to go on a spontaneous little road trip with my best friend! Suzi is leaving here in a few days for her summer job, so we thought we'd take advantage of the fact that we're both home. Effortlessly Cute: 5 Minute {Weekend} Morning

Catching up with old friends is one of the best parts about being home. This past week I've not only blown threw two seasons of Homeland (fantastic, btw) but I've also had the opportunity to enjoy a long meal with two very dear friends. Don't you just love those breakfasts that turn into lunches, and those lunches that are filled with stories & inside jokes in the corner of a little restaurant? They might just be one of my favorite things ever.

Saying all that however, doesn't mean that I'm necessarily going to wake up early to spend extra time getting ready. I mean goodness, I'm on break. Love ya, but I love sleep too. So, these two outfits are a little inspiration for those 5 minute mornings on the weekend when you want to go for an 'effortlessly cute' look.

+lip color: In the summer especially, I almost never wear make-up. I just don't see the point. However if I want to avoid the "I just rolled out of bed" feeling, I'll normally add a touch of mascara and a little color to my lips. It takes all of two minutes, and it makes a world of difference.

+t-shirt dress: Again going with the "effortlessly cute" mentality, you can't go wrong with a basic t-shirt dress. Not only is it super comfortable and easy to wear, but you can add a fun necklace, scarf or belt and completely change your entire outfit.

+patterned tank & maxi skirt: I'm loving this look. Its so simple and cute for this time of year, while also looking put together. A maxi skirt is a staple for spring/summer weather in general- it dresses up an outfit & you can wear it with just about anything!

+messy bun: Didn't have time to shower? No biggie. Throw your hair into a top knot and be on your way. Boom diggity.

+easy jewelry: I might have mentioned this before... but no matter how cute a piece of jewelry is, if it jingles and clanks I can't wear it. I don't know why, I just can't handle noisy accessories. I stick to the basics: simple studs and a watch or bracelet that adds a pop of color.

Rain Shoes

It has been raining constantly since I've been home. Now I normally love thunderstorms, but when you're expecting to come home from a stressful semester and ~~play outside~~ lay in the sunshine forever and ever, the rain can put a small damper on your mood.

The only thing thats making it slightly better however is knowing that I can go put on my rain boots and ~~jump in puddles~~ take lots of walks. I'm on the look out for a good pair, and I'm reeeally like the ankle boot/ ballet flat look.

What do you guys think? What is your favorite rain shoe?

Because of the Emails I Haven't Deleted

Today marks the one month countdown of leaving for Passport. I'm obviously super excited, but there's a lot to tackle between now and then. Not only do I need to spend time learning and studying the curriculum I'll be teaching, I also want to go through pretty much every aspect of my life and declutter the crap out of it.

Between my desk at home and my supplies from school, I have like four pencil holders. And like three tubs of writing utensils. My summer and winter clothes are mixed (which is driving me crazy), and those clothes are mixed with the clothes that I never wear, which are mixed with the clothes that have seen their better days. I've somehow managed to acquire like a double of all of my toiletries, and for someone who barely wears any make-up, I have like an entire container devoted to lip goop. I wear about 25% of the jewelry in my room, as the other 75% happens to be stretchy bead bracelets and rings with lipgloss in them. I have piles of magazines from fourteen months ago, and school notebooks from high school. I have this theory that my computer moves so slow because of the emails that I haven't deleted. And my photos? Oh my poor photos. Hashtag disasteronmydesktop. Like. What. Happened.

So I've made a list. (Ha, surprise.) Everyday I'm planning on tackling a small little project. I'm hoping that by the time I leave a month from now, I'll not only be way more organized, but I'll also just generally have less crap. I guess I'll think of it as a late spring cleaning. How do you handle decluttering? I'd love to hear your tips!

The Turning Of Pages

So its 9:30pm on a Friday night and this is the first time that I've taken a breather all day. All week, really. What was I up to, you ask? Ahh I don't know, just a whole lot of making a mess, giving myself bruises and saying goodbyes. Yep ladies & gents, I moved myself out of my dorm today! Its amazing how much stuff we humans have, isn't it? I had an entire box filled with wires. Just for things. And a whole little tub devoted to my nail polish collection. I mean..

Anyhoo, the picture on the left is in the midst of packing(ish) and the one of the right is my "everything fit in my teeny car!" face. Like we're talkin' a fridge and everything. Sara and I should be pro dorm mover outers. Ya think there's a major for that?!

Saying goodbye to my little school was bittersweet. I won't be living in Fredericksburg again until 2014! I know I have a lot of exciting things coming up in the next few months, but leaving campus was sad nonetheless. Sara and I got a little teary thinking about all of the good (and not so good) memories that happened in our used-to-be cozy little home. A moment was taken, hugs were given, and I was on my way.

As much as I love being home, its a little strange. My brain is still in finals mode. I feel like I should be studying for a test, not thinking about the fact I'm going to an amusement park with my family tomorrow. (Hehe YAY.)

Hi everyone, happy May! Update:: 1 exam down, 4 to go. While I'm off studying my life away for finals, my lovely friend Kristyn at Poppy is going to take over for me today. She's getting ready to pack up and move into her first permanent apartment & wanted to share a few tips! For anyone about to move in or out of a dorm room/apartment, these are great things to think about-- xoxo.

Hey One of Five readers! I'm Kristyn and I blog over at Poppy! I love writing, traveling and design. You will find all of this and more on my lifestyle blog, where I tackle everything from faith to feminism. This week, my boyfriend E and I are moving to a cute little apartment in downtown Tampa--a big transition into the adult world, I guess you could say. While I'm super excited to be moving into our first apartment together, it's bittersweet at the same time. My family lives in Pennsylvania and I'm in college in Florida--now that I've decided to make the transition permanent, the apartment is the final step. Over the past year, I've shifted my life down here and it takes some work!
If you're moving to a new state any time soon, here's some advice: Simplify your life, shop smart, and keep family close.

Simplify your life.
This is a big one. I have a large collection of books and clothes that I unfortunately can't afford to house in my new home. I cut down my collection to about 2 shelves of books and cleaned out half of my wardrobe. Be choosy. It's hard to do, but it's important to make sure you keep items you truly need and want. Anything questionable? Donate to a Goodwill, have a yard sale, or sell online! Plus, it makes Moving Day so much easier (Note: Invest in movers. They will save your sanity).

Shop smart.
As first-time renters, we obviously can't afford high-end furniture. Rather than hit up the local thrift store, E and I shop at Ikea--a great, budget-friendly compromise for someone like me who loves modern, fresh designs. You don't have to fill up your home in one week either. Be smart about what you can buy. Take your time accumulating furniture and decor pieces; this gives you time to decide what to invest in, and it makes the purchases so much more satisfying. We couldn't afford a couch for awhile, so we were using folding chairs or watching Netflix in bed. Last week, we finally purchased our couch and we can't wait to lounge on it :)

Keep family close.
My family is so important to me, and it's been hard going months without seeing them. So, we often utilize Skype! While it's not the same as face-to-face, it does help lessen the distance and keep us all in the loop. Just because you live far away doesn't mean you can't still be close to family. As someone who loves to travel, I think finding a balance is key. Discover your independence but stay grounded and embrace your roots, too.

//well i guess i can think about them in a little bit... i have to make a little time for dealing with the food poisoning i got last night. perfect timing, right? my diet today has consisted of green tea and seven cheerios. sad.

//i was perfectly content with 80 degree spring days. it was 34 degrees yesterday morning, and i'm so wishing i didn't leave my sweatpants at home.

//papers & vocab quizzes for a 1 credit pass/fail ballet class are stupid.

//turning off your phone and checking out for a few hours/days is one of the best things ever. i have a love hate relationship with my iPhone. its so convenient, and so... convenient.

Taking Advantage of the Rain

So yesterday was the most wonderful day. It was Friday for starters, which already made things ten times better. I finished class at 1:00, grabbed lunch with some friends, and then went back to my room to begin the lazy afternoon I had been planning. I did nothing but watch a crappy netflix movies & nap. It was marvelous, I tell you.

We were expecting a huge thunderstorm, so I was completely content with hiding under my covers for that evening while Sara went to get dinner with her momma. Literally 6 1/2 minutes after she left the wind and rain appeared out of nowhere, and I was soon sitting in the dark by myself. I didn't mind completely-- there's something eerily soothing about peaking through the blinds and watching the swaying trees.

Thankfully the power came back on about an hour, but the rain never stopped. A bunch of us ordered pizza around 11:00pm, and by roughly 11:07, we were sitting around a table full of cookie crumbs and an empty pizza box. People always joke about how much guys can eat, but I honestly feel like girls can eat just as much when they want to. Or at least my friends. Haha no shame.

We were soon running around outside again, and the rain had slowed down a little. We decided to play.

The video above captured us running under the biggest tunnel of water next to the Nest, one of the food places on campus. We like to call it Nestagra Falls. p.s. the water was SO cold, which hopefully explains the squealing?

So there's this fountain on campus, and you're not officially a student at UMW until you take a swim. We of course did it orientation week, but the semester ends in two weeks and I won't be back until January, so we needed our fix!

It was truly wonderful. I mean, how often do we let ourselves play in the rain and get completely soaking wet? Not enough. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. :)

I haven't had much to say as of late, and felt that it would be wrong to post something just to say I posted something. But that's okay I think; sometimes silence really is better. I can get so caught up in technology that I sometimes forget to have a life past it-- past the papers, the emails, the social media. I went home this weekend, and I have to say that it came at the most opportune time. The heat of finals has yet to kick in, so I was able to take advantage of a few much needed days of family and sunshine.

Things I pondered over the weekend::

//driving with the windows down is truly the best therapy. there's almost nothing better than having windblown hair & feeling the sun warm your forearms.

//i have to stop taking things so seriously. we're all stumbling through this "life" thing together. sometimes i'm going to mess up. that's okay.

//running can actually be wonderful if you allow yourself to enjoy it.

//sometimes you just need to forget all health tips and eat the ice cream.

In Case You Were Curious...

+there's a high of 91 degrees in the fred today. in no way am i complaining (hello, no more puffer coat) but 91 degrees? In April? Two weeks ago it was snowing. Exhibit A.

+i went on two runs yesterday. not sure what that's about. i think it was a beautiful weather + procrastination + feeling extra energetic combo.

+i went to bed at 9:30 on monday night. and then woke up at 6:30. on my own. so that's something. does this mean i'm growing up?

+its discovery day at UMW today, which means there will be hundreds of potential students and their families swarming the campus. pro: the food will be extra delicious. i'm pumped. #thelittlethings #lifeofafatty #hashtag

+i have a new obsession with lara bars. they have like two ingredients and are super healthy for you! apparently you can make your own? totally trying these this weekend.

+because oh yeah, i think i'm going home! since spring lasted approximately 3.5 days, i have zero clothes for hot summer weather. its been blast i tell you.

The Best of March

For some reason, I don't have as many photos for the month of March as I do for previous monthly posts. I think it has something to do with the fact that March flew. I feel like I'm beginning to say that at the end of every month now, but its so true! I'm freakin' out guys. I feel like I'm living from week to week, always looking forward to my weekend plans or the day after a big exam. Yesterday feels like New Years Eve, and tomorrow feels like the first day of summer. Sometimes I really do wish I could push pause.

At the beginning of the month, I had just gotten home from New York and was greeted with about two feet of snow. Happy spring break? It wasn't terrible, but we did lose power for a good little bit. I rather enjoy using candles and being all cuddly so I didn't really mind. However, the whole being cooped up in the house with restless brothers thing wasn't exactly how I really pictured my relaxing spring break to turn out. Regardless, its was so wonderful to be home for a week.

As for the rest of March, I spent a most of my time reading and studying and reading some more. My free time was spent outside when the sunshine finally decided to grace us with its presence, painting my nails a wonderful dark purple, trying out new foods with my goober of a roommate, witnessing the most beautiful skies that pictures don't do justice, looking at the fullest moon I think I've ever seen and eating banana oat cookies for dinner on multiple occasions. I'd say it was a pretty swell month. :)

SO I HAVE BIG NEWS...

If we're facebook friends or if you follow me on twitter then you probably already knew this, but I wanted to share with all of my lovely blog friends, too. :)

Indeed-- UK readers, I'm soon to be headed your way!! Bath, England will become home to little ole me for the upcoming Fall semester. I knew going into college that studying abroad was something I wanted to do, so I began the long and tedious application process back in January. Side note:: do you know how many forms you have to fill out when applying to study abroad? At least a bagilliondy. Just thought I'd share.

I chose a program that compliments my major really well, so literally all of my time for months on end will consist of reading, writing, traveling and blogging about it all. Its a dream. At the beginning of this week I received the wonderful news that I was accepted, and have hardly been able to think about anything else since. (Like apparently I have these things called "tests" and "papers" coming up...?)

Oh, and do you guys remember the post where I talked about my summer job? So for anyone who is invested in my plans for the rest of the year, let me just break it down for ya real quick. This semester will end in a little over a month (!), I'll spend my summer as a bible study leader in North Carolina, I'll return home for about three weeks and then I'll leave for England. Whew. I am so excited, ~~halfway panicked~~ nervous and incredibly thrilled for the next 9 months. I have a feeling they're going to be pretty swell. :)

As you may remember from this post, my entire weekend consisted of Jane Eyre with a little Les Mis thrown in (had to). To keep from growing restless of sitting still for hours on end, I alternated my sceneries to keep things fresh.
