Autisme adalah gangguan neurologis yang memengaruhi fungsi normal otak manusia dalam melakukan interaksi sosial dan komunikasi. Menurut Autism Society of America, orang autis biasanya menunjukkan kesulitan berkomunikasi secara verbal dan nonverbal, serta sulit berinteraksi dan beraktivitas sosial. Autisme muncul sejak tiga tahun pertama kehidupan.
Tanggal 2 April diperingati sebagai Hari Kesadaran Autisme di seluruh dunia.Kampanye dilakukan di seluruh penjuru dunia, dengan acara resmi di setidaknya 23 negara. Untuk mengenal lebih dalam mengenai autisme, Famega Syavira Putri dari Yahoo! Indonesia mewawancarai Fernando Cortizo, doktor dan peneliti dari Monash University, Australia. Dr Fernando juga menjabat sebagai CEO Autism Management Institute di Korea dan Malaysia. Berikut ini kutipannya:
Y!: Apa yang menyebabkan autisme?
Autisme bisa disebabkan tiga hal, yaitu faktor genetis, kromosom dan lingkungan yang memengaruhi anak mulai dari kandungan hingga setelah lahir. Faktor genetis tak dapat diubah. Hingga saat ini peneliti masih melakukan percobaan modifikasi genetis tapi belum membuahkan hasil.
Sedangkan penyebab yang berasal dari lingkungan bisa diminimalkan. Hasil penelitian kami menunjukkan, pada tubuh anak autis ditemukan logam berat yang jumlahnya bisa 100 kali lipat dari ambang batas normal.
Tubuh manusia dirancang untuk menyaring kelebihan logam berat dan mengeluarkannya dari dalam tubuh. Tetapi sistem tubuh orang autis rupanya tak dapat mengeluarkan logam berat dan malah menyesuaikan dengan kelebihan tersebut.
Bahkan saat lahir, bayi sudah punya kandungan logam berat yang berasal dari ibunya. Logam tersebut bisa bertambah karena paparan bahan-bahan yang ada di alam, misalnya makanan. Ikan yang mengandung banyak merkuri, contohnya. Selain itu, ada juga pencemaran aluminium yang berasal dari peralatan masak, sedangkan kadar timbal dan logam berat lain bisa masuk ke dalam tubuh karena pencemaran udara. Mainan anak-anak juga bisa menjadi tak aman karena bisa mengandung logam.
Salah satu tindakan yang biasanya memberatkan tingkat autisme adalah vaksinasi. Kami sering menjumpai kasus anak-anak yang mulai menunjukkan gejala autisme setelah diimunisasi. Rupanya ada beberapa vaksin yang masih mengandung logam berat. Vaksinasi kemudian menjadi pemicu gejala autisme pada anak karena tingkat logam berat yang meningkat drastis, melebihi ambang batas yang bisa ditoleransi. Dalam hal ini anak laki-laki lebih rentan terpicu autisme akibat vaksinasi dibanding anak perempuan.
Y!: Bagaimana cara pencegahannya? Apakah vaksinasi tak perlu dilakukan?
Tak perlu ekstrem menghindari vaksinasi sebab bagaimana pun, vaksin tetap diperlukan untuk meningkatkan imunitas. Tapi sebagai pencegahan, jangan pernah melakukan vaksinasi secara bersamaan. Pastikan anak diimunisasi dengan vaksin yang bebas logam. Tiap habis vaksinasi, perhatikan apa ada perubahan tingkah laku anak. Jika ada, segera kontak dokter dan hentikan vaksinasi. Meski tak terjadi apa-apa, tunggulah tiga bulan untuk melakukan vaksinasi berikutnya. Beban berlebihan pada sistem anak akan merusak sistem imunnya.
Y!: Benarkah jumlah penderita autisme terus meningkat?
Dalam 20 tahun terakhir, jumlah yang tercatat memang semakin meningkat. Penyebabnya masih diteliti, karena bisa saja jumlahnya sebenarnya tidak meningkat. Angka itu bisa tampak lebih tinggi karena kesadaran akan autisme yang semakin maju -- kita bisa mengenali gejala yang sebelumnya tidak dianggap sebagai gejala autisme.
Saat ini di Indonesia rasio anak autis adalah 1: 250, artinya ada satu juta penderita autisme di Indonesia.
Y!: Ada berapa macam jenis autisme?
Spektrum autisme sangat bervariasi, mulai ringan sampai berat. Gejalanya berbeda setiap individu. Ada penderita yang tidak punya kemampuan mengekspresikan diri secara verbal, sulit berkoordinasi, ketidakmampuan belajar. Ada pula yang tidak mampu menciptakan ikatan dengan orang lain, sulit berintegrasi, tidak mempunyai kesadaran sosial dan lain-lain.
Meski demikian, beberapa anak autis punya keistimewaan dibanding anak-anak normal. Beberapa dari mereka punya IQ tinggi dan memiliki keterampilan khusus. Pasien saya ada yang pandai menembus password, ada yang bisa bicara beberapa bahasa padahal tak pernah belajar formal.
Y!: Apa saja terapi yang bisa dilakukan untuk autisme?
Terapi autisme yang baik tak hanya fokus pada penderita tapi juga lingkungan dan orang tuanya. Memiliki anak autis berarti komitmen panjang bagi orang tua yang harus selalu menanggung biaya hidup anaknya. Biasanya orang tua khawatir bagaimana anak ini bisa mandiri dan hidup tanpa tergantung orang lain, serta bisa memenuhi kebutuhannya sendiri.
Penyebab autisme dapat dilihat dari analisis DNA secara lengkap. Setelah pola spesifik ditemukan, bisa disusun apa yang menjadi penyebab dan bagaimana cara meminimalkannya. Terapi harus dilakukan secara spesifik dan berbeda antar individu.
Saya juga melakukan riset soal anti-penuaan. Saya menemukan bahwa banyak penderita autis yang menunjukkan gejala yang muncul pada orang yang menua. Contohnya kehilangan ingatan, alzheimer, tidak peduli dengan keberadaan orang lain. Maka kami melakukan riset untuk memodifikasi perawatan anti-penuaan untuk diberikan kepada anak autis. Untuk hasil terbaik, terapi harus dilakukan dengan modifikasi hormon, obat-obatan, menjaga asupan makanan dan bimbingan terapis.
Kami juga mengembangkan pemberian hormon oksitosin, yang biasa dikeluarkan secara alamiah oleh manusia saat sedang bercinta, kepada orang autis. Pemberian hormon ini ternyata efektif untuk meningkatkan kontak mereka dengan orang-orang terdekat. Misalnya, ada pasien yang tak mau mendekati ibunya. Setelah diberi hormon ini mereka mulai membuka kontak dan mulai mau disentuh dan dipeluk.
Y!: Haruskah memasukkan anak autis ke sekolah khusus?
Saya tidak akan menyarankan demikian. Terlebih jika itu berarti anak autis dicampur dengan penderita kelainan lain, misalnya down syndrome. Penderita autisme justru harus dibiasakan bergaul dengan anak-anak yang normal.
Y!: Dapatkah autisme disembuhkan?
Kami tidak memakai kata "sembuh". Tujuan terapi autisme adalah membuat penderita mampu mandiri dan memiliki tempat dalam kehidupan sosialnya. Mereka bisa sekolah, punya teman, belajar dan bisa maju. Komitmen untuk terapi ini memang jangka panjang, jika tak ingin dikatakan seumur hidup.
Dengan penanganan yang tepat, tidak mustahil penderita autisme bisa menjalani hidupnya dengan lebih baik daripada orang yang katanya "normal". Saya kenal beberapa penderita yang berhasil menjalani kehidupan normal, punya anak dan mampu menghidupi dirinya sendiri.
Y!: Jika disebabkan gen, apakah autisme akan menurun?
Tidak demikian. Jika orang autis memiliki anak, belum tentu anaknya itu akan menderita autisme juga. Apalagi penderita autisme malah sudah memiliki pemahaman lebih baik tentang autisme dibanding orang awam, jadi saya rasa tidak akan berakibat buruk.
Y!: Bagaimana cara mencegah risiko autisme?
Harus ada pemahaman mendalam dari orangtua untuk mengurangi risiko anak terkena autisme. Contohnya, waspada saat melakukan vaksinasi. Hati-hati dengan potensi logam berat di lingkungan sekitar. Jangan paparkan anak dengan logam berat yang bisa ada di mainan, alat masak dan makanan. Hindari makanan cepat saji, makanan berpengawet dan berpenyedap rasa.
Lingkungan tempat tinggal juga bisa menjadi penyebab. Jika memungkinkan, hindari tinggal di daerah yang tercemar logam berat seperti dekat pabrik atau daerah berpolusi tinggi. Ibu hamil harus hidup sehat dan mengonsumsi makanan bergizi, termasuk makanan yang mengandung Omega-3.
Meskipun autisme tak bisa dihindari, tingkatannya bisa diminimalkan dengan cara sederhana, yakni dengan menerapkan pola hidup sehat.

Okto Out, Riedl Release 20 Players Sea Games

Coach U-23 national team of Indonesia, Alfred Riedl, officially released a list of 20 players who will follow pelatnas Sea Games 2011. There was a surprise because there was no name Oktovianus Maniani attacking midfielder in the squad.

The plan, the 20 players will be called on April 25, next to perform medical tests. "Coach Riedl also will add to the list of players again with memangil about 5-6 players, 8 days before D-day. Pusuk Buhit in Toba now become one of the government's closely watched mountain.
