Southern Freeze 2014

Well after a whole lot of hoopla and waiting

we have icicles

we have ice covered Tea Olive blossoms

we have ice drips hanging on the leaves of everything in the yard

we even have an icicle hanging in the dried sunflower head

but what we don't have.... is snow not even a flake..

If it is going to be this cold the least it can do is give us a little snow to play in..

Oh well maybe next time...

Oh and we are going to be in the high 70's by the end of the weekend..

Crazy isn't it...lol

A perfect day for a walk

What a beautiful day today turned out to be

The weather has been so crazy around here. I have been cooped up in this

house for way to long. This morning the hubby and I jumped in the car and took off to the
SAVANNAH NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

where several gators were enjoying the sunshine

the sky was unbelievably beautiful

what's not to love

well maybe the gators aren't loveable

but everything else

was just perfect...

Sure hope you are all getting

some of this warm sunshine..

Wishing each of you a wonderful Thanksgiving

from our family to yours..

We celebrated last weekend and it was the best time.

The babies are big enough now

that we wanted to make it fun, make some memories..

the hubby built this Whatchamacallit and I painted it..
The thoughts were we would get all the kids together, take pictures
and then every year take more and see how much they have changed/ grown

We never did get all the kids together
but the adults sure had fun playing with it..

even baby Harrison got in on the fun.. He is due next week
and we are all so excited..

there was some apple bobbing and yes that is
a tiny little butt crack going on up there on the right..

some crafting and cousin time

a find the prize hidden in the whipped cream game..
which some miss understood and just kept
licking the cream until it was gone..
( which is what I would have done )
How about that foot in the
air action guess it makes you go a little faster..lol

a HEY ride.. No not a HAY ride
We had no hay so we just waved and yelled HEY
to every John Deere tractor or truck that passed us along our way.
We had a ball... kids, adults and even the dogs

Even me, momma and my little sister Cricket got in on the sillyness

I think we succeeded in making lots of fun new memories..

I hope that your time spent with family and friends

is filled with love, happiness and laughter,

lots and lots of laughter..

More like shocked.. I was strolling through Savannah Now .com's

Annual Holiday Event Guide and I came across this picture and my first thought was..

I love that house, I love Isle of Hope, I enjoyed that tour so much...

and then I thought that looks like my picture and guess what it is...

Now how fun is that!

Copper Canyon Daisy

Last year Pam Penick of the blog Digging

told us all to plant Copper canyon daisy.

Pam described it as

"warm sunshine on a chilly autumn day."

Which is the perfect description.

as I turned into the drive on this very gray gloomy day

I thought Oh that is what Miss Pam meant..

it is glowing...

My pictures do not do it justices...

is a must have in my fall garden from here on out..

Good morning all
November is here and it has brought some

perfect weather... Chilly and sunny.

I am getting so excited for the holiday's

This year I want to decorate everything.
Cook all kinds of goodies and really blow it out.

I'm not sure if it is because we have a new baby boy

due in December or because we will be celebrating

Christmas at my niece's "new" 100 year old home in the country

or if my heart has finally healed enough to let me feel again..
( if you are new to the blog)

I lost my brother, father in law and my father all within 19 months.

and that my friend will knock the wind out of your sail for sure..

They say Time heals all... Maybe maybe not,

but it has definitely helped...

Today I am sharing some pieces I did for baby Harrison's nursery
his mommy is doing it in a nautical theme and it has turned out so cute.

you can't really tell it in the picture but the rope is done in a crackled finish.

Yesterday mom and I rode up to Rahn's Greenhouses
to pick up some snap dragons, pansy's and other fall/ winter favorites

When I walked into the big house I was in awe..
It was filled with so many beautiful
and different varieties I knew I was not leaving without them.

I love Caladiums and every year
I say I am going to do some and every year I don't

Mornings on Tybee island are magical

afternoons on Tybee island are spectacular

evenings on Tybee island are the perfect way to end a day
or at least wind down a bit until the music starts.

and getting to spending them all
with my beautiful girlfriends
from Ohio is a treasure
I hold close to my heart always and forever.

If you need a little cure for what is ailing ya
I suggest grabbing your girlfriends head to the beach
lay in the sunshine, drink to much, dance and sing like fools
then get up the next day and do it all again...

chalkboard painted bags and other fun stuff

Miss Olivia Leigh turns One today
what a fast year 2013 has been
I had so much fun making things to use for her birthday pictures

first I built a giant " One "
from 2 pieces of 36 x 48 foam cord board
and a whole lot of hot glue

once I had it built I covered
it in newsprint paper
and then I used Mod Podge to cover it
with the pink tissue paper

I then started cutting strips of fabric that my
niece Jessica and I tied to ribbon to make this really cute piece..
Thank you so, so much for stopping by that day Miss Jessica..

next up I painted jumbo paper lunch bags
with just regular flat black paint
trimmed the bottom with some craft sissors
punched two holes in the bottom/ top of the bag tied a raffia bow
and then I added a strip of Chevron fabric so we could tie them to the fabric thingie...

Miss Olivia's momma used the bags to share

the date and time of the party..

Which is today woo hoo I love partying with one year olds..

We love you so much and can't wait to get

Easy Butterfinger, Chocolate chip, Pecan, Dulce de leche cookie bars

Wowwee what a name for a bar cookie...

In need of a sweet treat to take to our family reunion

this past weekend, I walked around and around

and around the grocery store without a clue what to make.

I came home with 4 packages of refrigerated

chocolate chip and pecan cookie dough

2 cans of caramel Dulce de Leche

and a pack of mini butterfingers.

I pushed the dough around into a greased
foil lined pan. Poured the 2 cans of caramel on top

then covered that with crushed butterfingers...

I also added some chocolate chips

which I will not do the next time they were not needed.

I baked until a toothpick came out clean which

was just a little over the cookie package directions.

They came out all ooey gooey yum, yum, yummo
I will be making these again for sure.
Give them a try easy and yummy
what's not to love...

Oh yeah sorry there is no after picture..
I forgot to take one when they came out of the oven

How to mess with a momma

Happy Friday ya'll

there is a touch of fall in the air and I'm loving it..

I haven't been doing much gardening

but I have been staying busy and having lots of fun..

like putting together this cute beaded chandelier

I used Christmas beads a gazillion hot glue sticks,
some punch cups,
and an old brass chandelier
that has been around forever.

I think it turned out cute.

Then I took my babies to my girlfriend April's fabulous yard

hung it in her fabulous Oak tree and started taking a million pictures..

Miss Olivia with her big sister Alexis
and here is where the messing with momma comes in...
Aunt Cherry went to Picmonkey and started playing

with all the different settings

and now momma
has to decide which pictures she likes the best.

Oh how aunt Cherry loves
messing with mommies

and her sweet, sweet babies

Miss Olivia turns one next week.

We did some really cute birthday pictures

but I can't share just yet

38th Annual NOGS Tour 2013 Garden # 4

How about a pretty downtown Savannah

courtyard on this fine Sunday morning which happens

to be the first day of September.

The front of the home looked a lot like a traditional Savannah home

beautiful woodwork, lighting, lots of windows
and haint blue ceiling

all along the side of the house was this stucco and wrought iron work
which led to the entrance gate for the courtyard

once inside it looked more like what I think of as a French villa

this fountain has a mirror behind it which expanded
the courtyard and brought in lots of light

raised beds filled with herbs and flowers

loved the path which went along the inside
of the stucco wall to the front yard

Confederate jasmine was planted along most of the walls

there was a beautiful alcove

with this pretty dining area which looks out into another

fountain area and into the home

this is the opposite side of the alcove

beautiful comfy setting area, pretty pots with lush greenery

my favorite pots ever.. I am so in love with these big white pots

This courtyard was very tranquil, peaceful and natural looking
even full of people it felt as if I was alone.
The absent of lots color made it a calming space.

and that little pop of color added the " happy "to the space

Plant shopping at the end of July

This summer has been very, very non typical Savannah weather...
Normally by this time of the summer
I have not only stopped thinking about buying anything,
I have most likely stopped caring about what is going on outside at all.
But because of all the rain our temperatures have stayed on the mild side
and even though it is so wet that I really haven't been able to do much...
The milder temperatures have me making plans
for when or if the rain ever stops.

and I have figured out
~ if you go shopping this late in the season
you find things on sale.
You find things you have been wanting but haven't been able to find
and you find things that might not have peeked your interest in the spring...

Like these marked down New Dawn Climbers

Yesterday I picked up three for the price of one...
But the fun part about this is I didn't even realize until this morning
what I had bought ... Now.... let me explain..
Yesterday I got to make a quick stop at a nursery in Statesboro, Georgia
I went in with one thing on my mind. They didn't have it so I left my name and number
and was headed for the car when I saw the roses.
I have been thinking about planting some small white roses along the front walk.
I found what I wanted went and got a cart threw 3 roses on it
turned around and saw a Lady Baltimore hibiscus placed it on the cart, paid took off.
I unload the car when I got home and I still had not notice I had pink roses.
This morning I go out to water.... I stopped, looked around

( you know like maybe someone is playing a joke and is hiding to see me react )
I grabbed the tag and guess what I have 3 New Dawn Climbers
well how ya like that .. I have been trying to decide which climbers
I wanted for my arbor in the backyard...
Well I guess that decision has been made..

Lady Baltimore hibiscus I could not find her in the spring but I have her now

Black coral elephant ears Taro Colocasia

The wouldn't have peeked my interest in the spring
but I'm gaga over right now... I can't wait to watch this grow.
The leaves are iridescent, when the sun hits them they shimmer..

I also bought a Limelight Hydrangea, Night Blooming Jasmine
and was given a piece of a Taro named Tea cup.
So I say get out and go shopping ya just might find a treasure...

Now let me tell ya what else I did yesterday but don't tell anyone else
cause it's pretty silly and well it makes me sound a little goofy..
The hubby and I went to lunch, time I walked into the restaurant
I headed for the restrooms. I went in did my business walked out of the stall and thought hummm that's a urinal on that wall..
Why would they have a urinal in the ladies room..
With no more thought about it..
We had a wonderful lunch with the nieces and the babies.
I got up to leave and walked right back into that restroom again
and dang if there wasn't a man standing there drying his hands...
He smiled, I say is this the men's room
he gives me that Bill Engvall look... You know the one
The Here's your sign one... and yes there were signs very clear signs on the doors..
I just once again was not paying attention ..lol..
yep pretty silly but it sure gave us all a good laugh
and something for the kids to rag me about for the next thousand years..

Gracious Southern Gardens Tour #1

Back around the first of May the Southbridge Garden Club

held it's first Garden tour.
The Gracious Southern Gardens Tour

for weeks I have been thinking I had lost all of my pictures

only to remember last night during a very sound sleep

that they were on my old computer yippee here we go...

walking up to this home I knew it was going to be good.
The home owner is an artist and it showed through out the entire yard.
I loved these giant hibiscus that she had made.

the little courtyard at the front door was filled with color

heading towards the back

there was plants tucked in everywhere
and how cute are these name tags she made

she also had "before" pictures and it is amazing the difference

you never even noticed the neighbors while in the back

from wide open to a cozy haven

her Coleus pots were awesome..

tucked in a far corner was this tropical sitting area

from this side of the yard you do see the neighbors
and guess what we are visiting their home next.

we were guided through a side yard

that had been turned into a hidden shade garden

I was pleasantly surprised that she had so much going on in such a small space

you could get lost in here in a good kinda way.

I didn't notice the wrapped arbor until I started going through the pictures.

I bet this is beautiful by now.

and look how cute a mantel along the path.

and at the very end was her potting bench it was right
beside the garage which you never noticed until you were right up on it.

it was the perfect spot to get lots of work done.

This has been the summer of rain drops and hibiscus blooms

We have had rain everyday.. from light sprinkles to non stop down pours

the bees and the bugs are loving it

the flowers are loving it...

My newest rose..France Meilland is loving it......
I am completely smitten with this rose.

I bought it for it's fragrance, the beautiful blooms
just make it that much more special.

I planted it at the edge of our back porch/ doorway.
It glows in the evening light
and it's citrus fragrance will stop you in your tracks...
It has bloomed all spring and summer.
If you come across this rose I highly suggest it...

Purple heart ~ Setcreasea 'Purple Variegated'
is not loving it...
I'm loving everything about this tropical beauty but it is not loving all this rain.
I have broken off and planted pieces in several different area's hoping it will take off.

brief moments of sunshine makes all of us want to get out and soak it up.

this is what I see from my kitchen window.
It has been the bright spot on those cloudy, gloomy days..

Four O'clocks
A must in a bed close to where you spend your summer evenings
it will reward you with the most intoxicating fragrance.

split second morning glory this one reseeded it's self in a flower pot on the front porch.

rain drops on roses ~ white carpet rose.
I'm thinking I would like to have a row of these in the front yard they bloom like crazy.
I have had a few in the back for over 10 years and they have never needed anything.

I hope it doesn't sound like I am complaining because the truth is
I am enjoying the rain..

Well I'm enjoying the mild temperatures..

I have been able to work in the yard between rain drops.

The new plants that I put in, in the spring are doing wonderful
and we have a real lawn..

Which is needing to be mowed in double time to keep up...

it's here, it's here, sweet, sweet summertime...
What's not to love about summertime ~ Well maybe the bugs, humidity and lightning

Our yard has been filled with color for weeks now.

Duranta erecta 'Sapphire Showers'
This guy died and came back to life 2 feet from where he was planted
it is growing between 2 cross ties and is right in the way of closing the driveway gate
I guess I have got to try to move it but for now I'm just going to enjoy.

Althaea's, Gardenia's, Petunia's, Parrot Lilies,

I'm in a yellow kinda mood this year. I have painted the bench, swing, planters,
some iron work and even my living room end tables this beautiful
soft yellow called Wickerware by Behr

Love, love Chaste Trees I have rooted several
and this year they are all blooming like crazy.

one of my new favorites Echinacea Sombrero Salsa Red
I love the white underside showing before the petals turn

The lemon balm in the pot on the table has been sheered back often for weeks now.
I have been steeping it in boiling water then letting it cool, straining and putting in a mister bottle.
I use it to freshen inside even spray a little on my kitchen rags
as I'm throwing them in the dryer and the inside of the fridge..
Oh and look I painted the chairs yes yellow..lol

Ta Da my absolutely new favorite plant for summer 2013
is Gomphrena, Fireworks it is the best filler plant ever.
It's nice and tall, light and airy and everyone will ask you about it.
Even my local garden shop buddy stopped to see it and added them to her inventory
so if you are local run on over to Savannah Secret Gardens and get ya some.

Herbs are doing great we have basil and mints everywhere. The tomatoes are just starting to turn.
Picked my first 2 Cherokee purples this week and of course we had mator sandwiches with them.

another newbie for me this summer is
Verbena Lollipop it doesn't get as tall as other bonariensis
thinking it is going to be a keeper.

My Fiji Waterfall double lacecap hydrangea
has grown so much and is full of blooms this year as is all of the lacecaps.
There's lots more to share but I will save them for another day..
