International Women’s Day Tribute

Mark the date 8^th of the current month; the world celebrates the day to honour women of all regions. It celebrates respect, love and appreciation to the female gender beyond its contribution to political, social and economical achievements. Thus, you can hardly believe what the world would be without the prejudice only a woman can give over. I just noticed it when I checked my friends in my social networking sites stream greetings the whole day. How would everyone depict a woman’s experience that is rejected nor obliterated with a sudden commotion? Neither can’t I express my answers. Everyone is entitled for the freedom of speech; so the women are.

Here are some facts about the International Women’s Day that even my son should know.

The first Women’s Day was initially celebrated at the 28^th of February 1909.
It was then agreed with an idea to promote political franchise as well as equal rights for women.
In some countries like Russia, the said date is celebrated during the last Sunday of February each year which fell on March 8^th accordingly to gregorian calendar.
May 8^th, 1965 is the date declared by the decree of the USSR Presidium of the Supreme Soviet that is stated as a non-working holiday only in USSR; so as the China in 1922 and the Spanish communists in 1936.
In western countries, the date dully observed when the United Nations General Assembly states March 8^th as the United Nations Day for women’s rights and world peace.

I’m glad that here in Philippines, Avon empowered the women through its beauty, self-expression, fun, speaking-out and health. Salute to that!

Heading South Going Sonya’s Garden

It was early Sunday morning when we start things up going Tagaytay proper; to find the nature – loving place, Sonya’s Garden. A week before this, we were already spotting all possible locations and read blogs to rest assure ourselves where and which way to go. Determining landmarks, bus stops and wikimapping everything; knowing that we are commuting, indeed. So we go as stray as hungry hippies struggling block every block from Imus to Dasmariñas because of excitement and finally Tagaytay. We drop off at the block next to Casino Filipino and believing that it will only took few walks away to Sonya’s according to the map. Reaching the point where the bus will took its rerouting point, we started asking where Sonya’s Garden was. The guy told us that it will take 3 more kilometers away more. He instructed us more by taking Nasugbu jeepneys and drop off to Buck Estate then take a tricycle ride for us to reach the garden. Perhaps we didn’t expect that it is farther than what we’ve thought. My intuition is walking a bit will reach the garden but it’s not. Sonya’s garden is nested in the roads of Alfonso, Cavite and it is right after Tagaytay.

My brother is quite audacious and I know that. We left Imus by 10 am and now were here at Sonya’s at exactly 1 pm. Gasping to find the lobby; of course the restaurant’s jam packed! Sonya’s Garden is known for its greenery scenes that will capture your senses whilst cool temperature. Aside from spa services, they also offer an eat-all-you-can buffet which highlights fresh green salads with their signature dressing. Rock the Heavens Karl Roy

Perhaps his legend will never fade and it will remain as what he did the first time you saw him. First impressions last. Karl Roy has been in underground music scene for years. He continues to support Pinoy rock music and never afraid to do covers and mix music genre with his own style. I’ve noticed him first as the lead man of Advent Call (1996). Their original composition “Puting Ilaw” was fervently played in the airwaves of L.A. Rock and NU 107. Later P.O.T. comes with a bang with a fresh groove of funky Pinoy rock genre; which is also did by Sir Roy. Kapatid made great acclaim during year 2003 with “Pagbabalik Ng Kuwago”. Truly, Karl Roy never gave up with his calling. Meeting errands beyond the view of genuine Pinoy rock enthusiast makes the music scene seen far funkier with him; his styles.

Today, Tuesday, March 13, 2012; He died at the age of 43 and it is confirmed by his manager, Pam Lunar.

Chef Boy Logro’s Ping – Ping – Ping Life

Actually, a lot of cooking aspirants hail Chef Boy Logro as a supreme kitchen hero and that includes me. I’m a regular watcher of Delicioso which is hosted by Ms. Sam Oh and Ms. Jackie Ang – Po where they showcase easy steps on preparing bravura meals as well as pastries and desserts. They introduced Mr. Logro, in a certain episode, as the guest chef and did a scrumptious boneless crispy pata. As he demonstrates on how to debone the hind legs, skills flourish while he did it with a twang; so easy as a, b, c. For sure, several viewers of that show did impressed with Mr. Logro’s wittiness and cooking supremacy. Although, some people are making fun of the way he talks, it doesn’t matter. After all, he is the highest – paid chef in the Philippines. It's better to focus on the way he cook and not the way he talk.

Chef Pablo “Boy” Logro as we all know start in humble beginnings. He only finished his elementary years and didn’t manage to continue. They lived nearby in a small house by the sea with his father Justiniano as fisherman, mother Consorcia together with eight brothers. He went to his uncle in Manila to work and able to help his family as a houseboy in a Chinese Restaurant in Quiapo for P50/monthly. He speaks only Visayan language so he cannot understand Tagalog. Therefore, going to market wasn't that easy, he'll draw the things he needed and able to show to the seller then he’ll make transactions after it.

Later, he was employed as a dishwasher in Astral Villa Restaurant in Makati. Mr. Logro has been a protégé of Spanish Executive Chef Antonio Cuadrado Perez. With continuous perseverance and hardwork, Mr. Logro had a chance to work overseas in 1982. He impressed the Sultan in Oman which makes him accompany with His International trips enabling him to taste and learn foreign delicacies like French, Turkish, Japanese, Spanish and more. Furthermore, his family joined him in Oman provided with life that they could not ask for more.

After several years missing the place where they came from, Mr. Logro and his family finally went home in 1992. He joined the team of sous chefs in Manila Diamond Hotel and garnered the title of the first and only Filipino Executive Chef in a five-star deluxe hotel in the Philippines within three years. With all his accomplishments that even himself surprises him, he decided to settle down in the lands of Cavite. Mr. Logro thinks that he can share his talent to individual as well as youngsters and provide them an attitude and correct approach in cooking. Now, established in Gen. Mariano Alvarez, Cavite, Philippines is the Chef Logro's Institute of Culinary And Kitchen Services. Battling Tetris

I played Tetris during late 1990’s in Famicom by Nintendo. I admit that I go home late just playing Tetris at the local Famicom rentals elsewhere. Later, I noticed Tetris in a handy Brick Game. It comes in different colours, easy to hold moldings, user friendly interface, with built – in - sound and it is operated only by 2 pcs. of double A batteries. Cool! You can play it by an easy and hard game mode and nothing else. The game is consists of 7 different tiles which needs to form a line and your score is now counted by the lines you make. As you target the line quota it adds level and speed gradually and continue to prove that you’re the best; the one who can diminish lines as fast as possible then both of the speed and level goes back to zero. It was quite simple during those days playing the hard and easy mode. Until I noticed that my friend did have a 12 – in – 1 Brick Game! I was like, Uhh…was that possible?! Twelve different games in one then it had versions with 50 – in – 1, 100 – in – 1, 200 – in – 1….so on and so forth… My fascination with Tetris lasts until I graduated high school. Then my son had one during 2005.

Early last year, Tetris became a viral game in facebook. The thrill is you have an opponent online which you can play with until your battery runs out. Every time you sent clear up the lines, it will be send to your opponent’s window; making your opponent to diminish the lines fast. The higher the lines sent, the better. This game has some technicalities for you to improve yourself while beating the opponent like:

Earning Tetris Cash and Coins while playing and Upgrade your account.
Dress your tiles up for those who want a fresh start.
Tetris also offers you to earn Tetris Cash by completing tasks.
Tips and tricks so that you won’t be left behind.
You can also go have a battle at the arena with 5 other Tetris Players online and make friends.

I believe that I spent 2 day writing this blog because I can’t get enough playing Tetris. Thank you, Alexey Pajitnov of the Soviet Union. He’s all responsible for these. Some research stated that continuous Tetris playing have good effects in brain including:

The players become more proficient, indicating more efficient brain activity for a task.
Along with greater cerebral energy consumption, the brain function and activity increases.
It boosts general cognitive functions such as "critical thinking, reasoning, language and processing" and increases cerebral cortex thickness.
Reduce the flashbacks experienced in posttraumatic stress disorder in some cases.

The question is will it be played forever? Hmmm…Remains to be seen. You can add ME and let the battle begin.

Jose & Wally Funny Antics Only at Eat Bulaga

Two weeks ago, Jose and Wally had their first concert in Eat Bulaga. It was a part of the show where those two sang their hearts out for the viewers of Eat Bulaga. Later, Bossing Vic Sotto came up to tell Jose, Wally as well as the whole casting of the show and the Filipinos around the world that there’s gonna be a major concert. It’s Jose and Wally Concert at Smart Araneta Coliseum to be shown on March 2, 2012.

At first Jose and Wally seemed to be confused, maybe Bossing might be joking. Vic Sotto cleared again that is all happening on the said date. Laughing Jose with a bit of nervousness thanked Bossing as Wally did too. After all, there have been three (3) tickets printed for that date because the event was only meant for them, Jose, Wally and Bossing. Kidding aside, Jose has been in the mainstream for years. His real name is Ariel Manalo. He had his first tv appearance at Valiente, a local noon time soap opera way back late 80’s. Then, it was year 2002 when he first appeared in Eat Bulaga and decided to change his screen name as Jose Manalo. Joey de Leon and Bossing always poke Jose for fun. Running smoothly with his funny antics, Jose became a regular co – host in the said show. Together with his long – time friend, Wally Bayola, they became a comic duo resulting a major concert on March 2, current year.

Eat Bulaga has been in the industry for almost 34 years. It is the longest running Philippine noon time variety show and still growing stronger. They have a project named “Plastic ni Juan” wherein they collect plastic bottles in every barangay they visited and recycle it into chair. They donate chairs to respective public schools in almost every corner of the Philippines. Perhaps, words can’t express enough how much blessing they give to each and every winner they pick day after day. For sure, your noon time won’t be the same if Eat Bulaga is not around. I bet that. Why not be there and experience it live.

Ok. First and foremost, you’ll need this as a requirement before getting employed. Aside from resume and other credentials, NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) Clearance’s purpose is to clear your identity to the government as well as to your future boss. Having one makes you a reliable citizen of the Philippines. However, the location of the said government agency has been subject to change with insufficient notice. Conclusions will all be made after a persevering individual engages himself to get one. Himself and the people of the Philippines.

I had my first clearance in the year 1999. It was located in United Nations Avenue near Philippine General Hospital. A couple of years after, I issued one again at the upper part of a mall in Carriedo. Conspiracy rose during those times because every Filipino will pay P20 as an entrance. Yes, air-conditioned place is assured and fast assistance awaits you. After four years, I had a chat to a friend of mine who’s in need of that certificate and she’s getting it from Monumento. You can reach Monumento thru LRT scrambling along hundreds of people going North. I haven’t gone there.

Now, after 12 years, my hubby needs one as a requirement to get a passport. Astonished with sudden abruptness when I knew that he venue was in United Nations Avenue again. Curiosity strikes with me so I managed to see the station where it is used to be. We were at the main entrance at exactly 4:00 am. Guys lane was separated from gals. There were about 500 applicants waiting outside by that time. The main entrance is placed at the front of Manila Doctors Hospital. Tarpaulins are everywhere for you to notice the schedules. Check time 8:30 am. His NBI Clearance was subject to be claimed after two weeks. He got a hit, his name also locates a guy from Pangasinan. They have the same name.

Pastrana and His Allies at Nitro Circus

Seriously, we don’t have a cable tv so I just spent my time by scanning local tv channels and surprising myself whenever I catch new one that I like. It was like 4 weeks ago when its 23:00 hours and nearly fell asleep when I scrutinized Nitro Circus at Studio23. Johnny Knoxville introduced Nitro Circus and even more surprised when he, Jeff Tremaine and Trip Taylor created it. Knowing that they’re the ones responsible in Jackass Movies and Tv Series streamed by MTV.

Nitro Circus started at early 2009 and launched several episodes. They do various of dirt biking stunts and couple of fascinating eye-crashing rumbles that may require from mini 2-wheel drive to monstrous everything-armed 4-wheel drive. Bam Margera, Jhonny Knoxville as well as Jeff Tremaine also had their several exposures in some of their stunts in their ill-fated hobbies.

Later 2010, one of the cast member Jim DeChamp mentioned in his facebook profile that MTV cancelled the show. Still with their witty works, Greg Powell suggested to make a movie instead. So on with the crew made head bangin’ stunts at their DVD Releases Season 1 and Season 2.

I told my hubby about this and my son becomes a regular viewer too. Too bad it's too late to watch at night but we really have a talk that he needs to wake up early to go to school. Oh by the way, this is way how the Nitro Circus crew go to school.

There was this television ad that catched my attention not because of the product but rather the song played whenever this guy diggin’ ice cream. As he peels off the ice cream tag the tune kept on playing and stopped as this curly haired guy interrupts. Suddenly she glanced at the girl sitting right next to him. Doing all same the way he does. Hey Daydreamer! As the ad continued and he gulped cynically and made couple of glance while the girl smiles at him.

This tv ad has been in the prime time slot for almost a year if I’m not mistaken. Assumingly, I watched it for over a hundred times but it never stressed me. Choosing the right theme song in an advertisement could contribute an optimistic feedback to viewers. Believe it or not between the ratio of viewing this ad is equal with the number of hearing it all over again in my crib. Repetitions of k-i-s-s-i-n-g, oh you could just pretend, hey daydreamers were all staggeringly sang by my son, Avi. We spend lots of laugh and then we’ll sing together all day with a lot of lyric confusions. Good promotion.

Yes, we do have OPM bands who jive into this kind of music. Techno means electronic dance music but I talk about not the mainstream. At first you may think what may they really sound like but worry no more because they’ve been flourishing underground. Think Pedicab. They sound like so alternative to me when I heard them rockin’ the radio waves and even more when they’re performing live. I have list wherein I begin to experience their tunes more and for sure you are about to want them more. Were planning to see some of them this coming February (hopefully, not to get confused with our sched) and experience OPTM more.

Turbo Goth

Sure they do it electronically in rock! Turbo Goth is only occupied by Sonic Experimentalist, Paolo Peralta (on guitars, drum beats, and electronic sampler) and Tattoo Artist/Freelance Illustrator/Model, Sarah Gaugler (on lead vocals). They’ve been in the scene since 2008. Recently, I watched a video from them which they cover “Army of me” by Bjork at Eat Your beets event held at B-side. They’re tunes influenced by Radiohead, Daft Punk, Bjork and Muse will make you guess how they perform in front of you. Watch Paolo as he slam along the stage and feel his passion together with Sarah. Digest it.

I can’t even believe that they’re true blooded Filipino when I heard them. Techy Romantics

Now this band got a touch of perfect electronic and melancholy fusion. Sweetness as is, the way I like them more. I remembered a tune from Everything but the girl creation. That was quite some time. Yeah, they do it always in hardcore, almost. I even love to play their first album “Identity Theft” which was released in 2008 and now 2012, the tunes still lingers in my ears. Beng Calma’s voice is such a girl power plus the genius works of Malek Lopez and Ian Magbanua a.k.a. Morse who’s behind the lappy doing beats and programming. Completing the groups groove is the turntablist Caliph8. They’ve been in the scene since 2002. I guess words can’t really express how much gratitude I feel whenever I hear them. Three days before welcoming 2012 states in the local news that my birth year’s gonna have a blast this 2012. I’m sticking to it hopefully, LOLS. Everything happens for a reason and because it’s complicated I don’t bother asking why. All work and no play make Karen a dull girl. Sucker Punch intrigued me. It is like Martin Scorcece’s Shutter Island who starred Leonardo DiCaprio the difference is they are all girls inside the mental institution. Babydoll played by Emily Browning is about to be institutionalized by her stepfather at the Lennox House for the Mentally Insane.

After her mother and sister’s death, she was the one to be blamed according to her stepfather because of insanity. As she was introduced to her new ‘home’, the scene was about Babydoll getting lobotomized. As me wondering why, the institution changed into a mobster where the girls are treated as high class dancers and you know what I mean. As she dances, she imagines the other world and prepares to escape as well as her four other friends. There she met the Wise Man. He told the girls to get five things in order for them to escape whom where they are now. Assumingly, they are all persistent to get it but unfortunately three of her friends were killed naming Amber (Jamie Chung), Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), Rocket (Jena Malone). Desperate to escape, Babydoll instructed Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish) to manage herself to go as she mesmerize the guys roaming at parking lot. The scene got backed when Babydoll is about to lobotomized and it was a success. She is now dull and looked like her name, Babydoll.

Movies like these are giving the audience what is like to be in there. After all, the viewer will pick its own idea beyond his wide array of musings and imagination. I say that the movie was quite poorly written but went plus on its visuals and the soundtrack, overall, I liked it.

Rock The Riles

For beginners, Rock the Riles is an annual event held on the first sunday of december, or the sunday before the day of The Inthernational Human Rights Day. The event is hosted by Rock Ed Philippines which is a non-government org that aims to provide assistance to the masses thru alternative education, and Rock the Riles is one of those stuff.

This event started 7 years ago. i actually heard about it last 2009 but never had a time for it, or i guess it was sheer lazyness, but i did promise to myself that i'll attend the annual event specially when I learned about the performers. The event is scattered in 8 stations of MRT. There are different set of performers for each stations with different theme. I can foretell that i will not be able to cover the event in all station so i'll settle with one. A lot of my favorite bands and performers a scatrred all over the 8 stations, Stonefree and Soapdish are in Taft; Hilera, Turbo Goth and Camerawalls are in Cubao; Paolo Santos, Silent Sanctuary and Duster are in Shaw; Radioactive Sago Project and UpDharmaDown are in Ayala; and Mayonaise is in North Ave. After a thorough deliberation while digesting a hefty serving of pancit cant on friend chicken, i've decided to be in Ayala station. i love the other bands but i just cant resist Armi Millare.

I was having lunch then in Escolta (imagine the points of Ayala and Escolta),i have to dive into the traffic of the metro just to get to Ayala. i finally arrived, i missed one band but sure i can let go of that. Aside from Updhamadown and Radio Active, a lot of underground bands are on the line up;  Encounters With A Yeti, Musical O, Sleepwalk Circus, Hidden Nikki, The Charmes, Not Another Boy Band, Dr.Strangeluv, and Acasha. If ur familar to the undergroud scene, you'll notice that all the bands in Ayala are part of Terno Records. from time to time they do this Terno Nights, usually in Saguijo where all of bands from Terno plays.

There are 2 student dj from monster radio who does the talking while upcoming bands sets up their instrument. by the time that i arrived, there was this chinese looking girl prepping up for the national anthem, the national anthem will be sang by 3pm in all stations and this chinese looking girl did  the anthem. She actually dont speak tagalog so the effort is big time. Musical O did they're part after the national anthem, great music. Encounters with a Yetti came next who did intrumentals. Not Another Boyband is a cracker, they came up as duo, the frontman's excuse is that they dont have permanent member, as for the instrument, the other guy is on lead guitar and the frontman plugged an ipod on the amp and everything is a cracked up history which i think is great. hidden Nikking came up and did their part and so as The Charmes which reminds me of some Franz Ferdinand. Sleepwalk Circus is one of the anitipated band, one thing that i liked from their set is that they did a bjork's unison sample on the last part of the third song, i dont know if other noticed it. up dharma down is up, just the prsence of Armi alone is enough for the crowd to noise up, they played all of faorite stuff from them including the new track entitled "indak". And ofcourse for the closing act is non other than Radio Active Sago Project who consistently played on the event since it started 7 years ago, they've played new songs and some classic such as "wasak"; it was "kape,alak,sugal,babae" that supposed to close their set but the crowed cheered for more, they did Astro where Lourd inserted a lot hot impromptus from the unresolved Maguindanao killings to the recent Kc/Piolo break up that brought the crowd to hysterical bliss.

One funny thing after the event. i inserted my mrt card and then the machine says "rejected, proceed to the ticketing booth", i tred another machine and it said tha same thing. i went to the ticketing booth and the teller said the ticket was expired already and asked me to pay P15, i was a bit nudge to rant but i was to tired so i just hand her some change took may card and went off. afterall, Rock the Riles for P15 is a very small thing.

There’s a place somewhere in North that offers wild and fancy waves ready for surfers to mingle the shores and kiss the sun. Travel Factor had its first Surf and Music Festival 2011 with a bang in Baler. I’m lucky enough to be one of participants and experienced Baler for the first time. I’ve expected only surf lessons and two nights of headbangin’ experience at the concert grounds but there were so much more. I mean more. I’m glad that Travel Factor is so organized although, some unexpected moments may occur but it’s okay.

Friday Night - It was almost 11:30 PM when we’re at the bus and waiting for 1 person who’s still on the way from his work and later, a couple of minutes more he came. Now we’re then headin’ for Baler. Slept. I woke up 5:00 AM and noticed that the bus stopped. We’ve spotted humongous dam somewhere there (Aurora proper) and the road is open for one vehicle at a time. One way. Slept again then afterwards I saw shores with big waves. Checked the assigned room by 8 in the morning and still slept. The trip is tiring. The bus kept on swerving, yeah, I felt that while sleeping. Me and my brother decided to check the place. We went strolling. We visited the public market, the church and the museum. Oh yeah, Museum de Baler. Did you know that Baler is Manuel L. Quezon’s birthplace? I didn’t know that until I visited Baler. Later, we had lunch and make friends. Saturday Night – The place at Aliya is now preparing for the concert grounds. We’ve jived the night away with DJ Nikki Rojas, DJ Joey Santos, Peter North, the cool Bee Eyes, Coffee Break Island, Tropical Depression and Franco. Cool!

Sunday Morning – Had our free brunch at 11:00 and went back to the room. We didn’t have the chance to have surf lessons, we’re late, so late. So were off to bayan and spotted the coolest Halo – halo in town. Its only 40.00 Php. We went back by just walking while chatting but just then ten more steps away from our room when we noticed the places we can go anywhere in Sabang for only 400.00 Php. We went to Cobra Reef, Dinaguisit Falls and Ermita Hills courtesy of Kuya and his reliable tricycle. Back at 5:00 and now preparing for the second event concert. We experienced DJ Joey Santos and DJ Nikki Rojas with cool alternative tunes for partying! Soju, Salamin, Jericho Rosales, Pedicab, Wolfgang and Spy. It was long and tiring night though it’s a blast!

Monday Morning – We didn’t participated the beach clean – up. Sorry for that but my conscience is clean, I never throwed even a single piece of my cigarette butts ANYWHERE in Baler. It’s all in my pocket. I do. We had a lunch and halo – halo again for the last time in Baler and prepared things before going home at 11:00. 2:00 Off to Manila but one of the bus had a flat tire somewhere in Cabanatuan. Got fixed for thirty minutes so the trip continues. We arrived in Manila at 11:00 PM. 3:00 AM – Cavite town proper. Yes, finally at home and again….slept.

Scream, Growl and Screech with Care

I wonder how metal vocalist prolongs their style of shouting. I, myself, do have sore throat with an overnight shouting in fancy mosh pit with bands raging in front. My first encounter with growl stuff is when I was in high school and I found out that it’s hard to digest. I admit that. Later, I heard Deftones “My Own Summer (Shove it)” and as well as their other screaming works. Suddenly I noticed that my day wouldn’t be complete with a dose of it. It also turned into lullaby whenever I’m stressed with whole day of CAT plus lots of school deadlines and delayed payment of my tuition fees resulting for not having my periodic exams. Almost.

I then heard CHEESE, they were called QUESO later but sadly they’re not workin’ now. Disbanded. They were also included in my diet. I’ve watched a short documentary yesterday on how to growl with care. I don’t wanna learn one but I am interested on how they handle their brutal and aggressive deep growling voice. I’m glad Ian Tayao is one of their interviewees. Others were Paolo Trinidad of Halmista and Jojo Book of Bloodshed. Would you believe that they have one in common? They don’t smoke. For real and do have in control and full discipline in order not to lose their growling ability. A full rocking goal as a genuine metal vocalist.

So along with the interviews here comes along an ENT Specialist. Stated he that growling can make ones larynx sore and if not taken care immediately can cause nodules. Nodules occur when a person’s larynx is overused but can be removed surgically. One mentioned also is Melissa Cross’The Zen of Screaming. She had various clients like Coheed and Cambria! Sweet! Now, you can now have tutorials on how to growl effectively and with care. Got passion of growling?  Me, no.

The Pacquiao and Marquez Mayhem vs. Reel Steel

I was just jotting notes online and viewing co – blogger’s blog when suddenly Pacquiao and Marquez’s Fight last Sunday just popped in my mind. I am not a fan of sports and even boxing. Yet, I do cheer sometimes and even shout in excitement in front of television because my mom said so. I do remember when Tyson bit Holyfield’s ear as sort of what? I don’t know. Maybe he wants to chew something that time that’s why he digged it. Boxing is rough and tiring.

All of us are aware of Pacquiao’s strategies in the world of boxing. Several proofs there also are his famous celebs visiting him whenever he had sessions with Roach in the Wildcard place. I admit that his fight is lame last Sunday but who cares anyway? At least he survived and still retained his title. Let us all be thankful that they finished the fight safe and furioused? Kidding aside, I don’t care how Mexicans showed their nasty hand signs after the fight. It is still their privilege, I assume and I respect that. I guess that’s the whole essence of the sport, there’s a looser and there’s a winner. That’s all.

Annoyed much, I even enjoyed more when my hubby told me watch “Reel Steel”. It was quite an awakening for me. You, me and everyone in this world have to face reality. Most often we get lost in the fight which we are eager to win. Still we end up as a looser. The subject here is not about losing but how you faced the fears and enemies and how to get one’s dignity as a result of a wise move. How about that? Good thing he got his son dancing with Adom. It brings the child out in his heart as well as mine too and with my hubby’s. Look at every child’s vision, even if they comment in nonsense or funny adlibs, for sure they have meanings an adult like us can observe and have lessons from it.

A Visit at Taal Volcano and The People Around It

After agreeing with my friend’s recommendation, we finally said yes and ready to roam this tourist spot. Ruben is a dedicated Batangueño from Talisay, Batangas. He always goofs us that we can reach that active volcano just by canoeing. Well, that is if we are courageous enough. Taal Volcano is one of the main attractions in Tagaytay. You can even notice several establishments existing there and still counting as it glorifies its scenic view.

The trip started at 2 am and arrived Talisay nearly 4am. We didn’t have a chance to drop by at Tagaytay’s public market because Ruben didn’t notice it and blaming the fogs as well. Forty – five minutes of coffee break at Pintor Residence (Salamat Ruben!) then were heading at his uncle’s house for fresh tilapia right straight from the fish cage. That was exactly 5 am.

Going back at Pintor’s residence, fish dropped by and cooked. We are now going to pump boat’s station and heading now at Taal Volcano. Riding inquisitively, a continuous gush of air at our face keeps on rushing. Cool!. It was eight o’clock when we had our first step in the shores of Taal. A representative told us a short briefing about payables plus he offered us a horseback ride of P500/head. We still prefer to walk, we love pain. We reached the crater for an hour. Bring water if you can because you won’t believe the prices up there. Sight – seeing while air gasping can be done at the Taal’s crater. Magnificent views await you. It’s nearly 11 noon and were bound to go back to Talisay and by 12 exactly we dig lunch. By 2 in the afternoon we’re set to go home, tired but full of inspiration.

Top Ten Alternative Movie List by Kulasa

Okay so here’s the few info why I choose this movies as my alternative list. It was 1979 when I was born in the year of the goat. I’m a Gemini and I enjoy all sorts of adventure as long as I can handle. I wasn’t privileged enough to watch some of the movies because I was a minor then. Now, as piracy invades everything, I managed to watch some of it and treat myself. Along with these, I choose these movies because of its awesome alternative soundtrack. You may just can’t get enough of it after hearing one and oh yes, watching it.

The Virgin Suicides 

(Directed by: Sofia Coppola, 1999)

This is the story of five doomed sisters (the Lisbons) who committed suicide. The movie is set in Michigan during 1970’s. The Virgin Suicides showcases the feelings of young and beautiful girls who want to explore more knowing the fact that there are several ‘adam’ beyond their grasp while adoring them. Still they were all miserable under the strict commands of their parents. I really feel sorry for them.

Natural Born Killers 

(Directed by: Oliver Stone, 1994)

I was almost stumbled and found out that doing cartwheels wasn’t really in my nerves then when I started to watch this. I had a bad headache after watching it.

Mickey and Mallory were victims of traumatic childhood. They fell in love the first time they saw each other and felt like there’s nobody can stop them. They became psychopathic serial killers. The movie shows all the killing spree Mickey and Mallory did and it was surprisingly glorified by mass media. The movie delivers crime, drama and romance plus elements of black comedy. Why black comedy? Actually, I really don’t know but there are scenes in here in the setting of a regular comedy tv show which in the end, they killed everybody. The graphic contents were really savaging as if like there’s no more tomorrow. 

Pulp Fiction

The movie has seven sequences and it is not in chronological order. Surprisingly, it started at the diner and later on, the show is just getting started. Everything is delivered in ravaging art of cinematography. You’ll never get bored while watching this. My bet is when Mia Wallace (Uma Thurman) is O.D.in and Vincent Vega (John Travolta) is ready to give her an adrenalin shot right thru her heart to save her. By the way, Samuel Jackson got something nice to say…..”The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. I admit that I miss those NU 107 days. This local radio station proved that there are many local talents in the alternative stream are making noise of their own. However, like the old saying goes, “some good things never last”. NU did its farewell with flare last November 7, 2010 with ravishing local rock bands on the side. I’m sad.

The Baler experience was good made by Travel Factor. I’m proud because I’m one of the participants and reminisce the good old days. Along the way to Aurora, my brother introduced me to Franco. No, he’s not a guy but a band composed of five guys from four different bands. Franco is their front man.

Okay, so where were you when Franco dominated the 2010 NU Rock Awards? Me, I’m probably learning Windows XP Moviemaker interface. LOLS. They gathered the trophies for Artist of the Year, Song of the Year “This Gathering”, Album of the Year and Listener’s Choice Award. The band really kicked off the scene when they played “Touch the Sky” that night. And oh! Lovin’ the most talk – about hand sign originally done by Franco. Legalizing marijuana as we all know have different and serious issues in our society but everyone is entitled for the freedom of expression. The decision is made by you, yourself and no one else. Franco’s here to tell you to free your mind….

A Certified Christa Collins Fan

It was Tuesday night and I’m waiting for my favorite primetime show but still it was about 45 minutes more to wait. Scanning the usual television channels, I’m stucked with The X-Factor USA. I think it was just a regular singing reality show that picks the most eligible contestant pricked with many controversies. Well, forty-five more minutes to go so why not watch this one. I’ve noticed that it was just an audition so there are more fresh talents to see. I’m interested enough when I saw this black guy singing a piece from Boyz II Men, I guess, and so on and so forth. Later, I noticed this woman standing in front of Enrique Iglesias and Nichole Scherzinger (whom to be her judge for that day). Her name is Christa Collins.

Christa Collins mentioned that she is the first child solo artist signed in the Disney Records. She was only ten years old then and that is pretty tough for her. Two minutes of performance in spotlight and the rest is eighteen hours of hard labor. She quitted her fame and lifestyle at the age of 16. She admits that it was the biggest mistake of her life. During those times, she’s not the typical Britney Spears or Christina Aguillera hippy. She got a style that caught my eyes and I admired most. She sang No Surprises which is originally from Radiohead. I liked Enrique’s expression when Christa expressed her emotions thru that song. After all this time, I still feel my heartbeat and goose bumps occur alternately whenever I hear her. Hmmm…maybe because I really liked the song.

Unfortunately Christa didn’t make it. Some said that Nicole voted her out and didn’t like her performance and that is reversed with Enrique’s view. Still, Christa’s personality is one in a million. Not all people will recognize her abilities and ways of thinking but still I’m one of her biggest fan.

Suddenly, my fav primetime show popped in my mind and when I scanned channels again, it’s on the run! Lucky for me I’ve watched them both!

The Halloween Special

Halloween is here again. It will only take 36 more busy days to feel creepy while hanging out with friends and family. Here in Philippines, Halloween is also known as “Undas”. In urban areas, Halloween parties are scattered along every corners of the streets. Flaring with the Halloween costumes, children do trick-or-treat with neighbors keeping the Halloween spirit alive. Mostly, some are visiting their departed loved ones to offer prayers and go home. Some arrange a Halloween getaway where they prefer ghost-hunting and stuffs like crazy pranks and watching horror movies.

What was that? You wanna get creepy right now? LOL…hmmm kidding aside, As usual Kulasa has been browsing for the coolest, I mean, Halloween games to play that’s enough to fill you with goose bumps. Kulasa and her son have played it already.

Sinthai’s The House is a flash oriented game where solving mystery is done by point-and-click strategy released way back 2005. It is similar with NFH Propaganda and 99 Rooms but I liked this more. The House was created by Sinthai Boonmaitree (xin) originally from Bangkok, Thailand. Then there’s the House 2 (2010) and The Halloween Special. This is a story of a family who committed suicide and the rest will be revealed by clicking anywhere in the screen. Along with the sound, animation and exact timing makes the game interesting and enough to give you creeps. I suggest to play the game late at night, off lights and with earphones on. I really liked it when I hear the manic piano playing all over again. Why not try the game and boost your clicking skills with a bit of fear factor on the side?

Domino’s Pizza Japan – In Moon?

Mr. Scott K. Oelkers, the president of Domino’s Pizza Japan, announces their very ambitious plan of having a pizza parlor outlet to be constructed in moon. The president wears a full spacesuit with a unique Domino’s Pizza patch while holding a huge image of the proposed Moon Branch Project in their advertisement. He speaks in English while having a Japanese subtitles at the bottom stating its outlines and primary goals. The required funding reportedly amounts to 1.6 trillion yen or $ 21 billion dollars.

Domino’s Pizza Japan has been fond of fun stunts to celebrate its anniversary. On its 25^th year the company offers a “Pizza Tracking Show” where they invited online pizza specials enthusiast to join and see the progress of their pizza to be delivered in real time. There’s also a promo where all babies born last year on September 25, the exact date the first Domino’s Pizza opened in Japan, will have their free pizza until the age of 25. It is very impressive right? I do admire Japanese’s wittiness in all aspects but what’s next for having an outlet in the moon? Are you wondering if how they gonna deliver the pizza for just 30 minutes? That is simply remains to be seen…

Frances Bean Cobain – Gearing Up for the Spotlight

It’s been 2o years when Nirvana’s first album Nevermind crashed the radio frequencies. The great Kurt Cobain and his better half Courtney Love surprisingly had only one child. No doubt about the reason blaming that Cobain died at the peak of his grunge era. Despite of the fans mourning upon his death together with Love and the band mates, there is only one person still standing. She’s now making small steps in the limelight with a smart Cobainy vengeance, Frances Bean Cobain.

Having an impression by her father that looks like a kidney bean in ultrasounds, Frances Bean was born August 18, 1992. She is now 19 years old. Her name resembles the singer/guitarist of the band Vaseline named Frances Mckee which is greatly adored by her parents.

Kidney bean no more- Frances Bean strikes in dark look with sharp yet voluptuous eye looks and a series of black ink tattooed in her body. At her back is her philosophy “art is the solution to chaos” which probably makes sense. She also posed for Rocky Shenk and do back-up vocals an unusual indie band Evelyn Evelyn as well as an intern at Rolling Stones way back the summer of 2008.

Unfortunately, France Bean has a shaky relationship with her mom. 2009 when she was taken under the custody of her mom, Love. Now, she is under Cobain’s mother and sister in order to protect the teen’s privacy. The girl remained mum about the issue and whenever she’s asked about her mom, her answer is “irrelevant to work”.

Rakenrol, story of group of friends with their own ideas shared, forming a band and experienced ups and downs. Like most of you, today’s genre seems to be far more freakin’ courageous than others and surprisingly dominating the next batch. The funny thing is how you will handle it. With the promising and dreamy role made by Mr. Ramon Bautista and a bunch of guys and gal namely Glaiza de Castro, Jason Abalos, Diether Ocampo, Ketchup Eusebio, Alwyn Uytingco, Rakenrol deserves to be shown nationwide. By the way, with my favorite, Jun Sabayton who’s also visible in the film, youth-oriented themed indipendent film will never be the same again.

Pinoy Rock Talents to Flourish in Tanduay Rhum Rockfest 2011

Hailed as Rhum Rockfest! Year V, Tanduay lined-up the best bands ever in the Philippine music scene. This event has been continuously successful for the third time. Celebrated every month of October, Tanduay’s aim is to support the Original Pilipino Music with its partner, the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit. Both are working to establish the future generation to keep on writing original music promoting our country’s story and society.

The event has just been blaringly bigger than before for they’re gonna be having tours in 30 cities across the country. Tickets will be available buy just buying 3 bottles of either Tanduay Rhum 5 years 750 ml or T5 Light 700 ml.
