2012-03-29T13:44:00.000-04:00

Want to place your little one in a adorable Easter Outfit this year?

With Easter just a few weeks away you may want to purchase your Easter Cloths today online. By doing so you save time and energy as you will not have to run to a crowded mall or shopping center. This can also be a great way to shop for busy moms and dads that just don't have the time they need in their day. With jobs and kids careers and just trying to spend time with your loved ones shopping on line can give you that extra time you may need to do something else.

Did you know it takes about a hour every time you go shopping in a store. While shopping on line can take about 10 minutes if you know what your want. So lets grab our wife or husband and use that extra time and go have a nice lunch somewhere. When was the last time you went out with your loved one for a nice lunch?

Easter IS Just Around The Corner Are You Ready

2012-03-29T11:28:00.000-04:00

With just weeks away from Easter are you ready for a day to celebrate with your family and loved ones? Easter is a time for sharing with your love ones and to renew your love for God. To celebrate and watch kids find Easter Eggs, Open Easter Baskets, and to wear new cloths to church. It is time to sit down with loved ones and share a Easter Dinner together, and just spend quality time with the people you love.

Our family will be going to my sister in law and brother in laws for dinner. There we will spend time with our family. Each one will have something special to take home. As Easter time here is when Brenda makes all kinds of home made Easter Candy all from scratch. The Easter Candy I like the best is her home made peanut butter Eggs. They are so delicious. We have a few diabetics in our family as well and they also get home made candy specially made so that they can also enjoy some to.

Diabetic candy is very hard to find and if you do happen to find some its very expensive also. Children that are diabetics miss out on a lot of special treats. By making your own home made candy for your child they also can have candy specially made for them.

Buying specially made Easter Molds, A little peanut butter and vanilla, Sugar free chocolate and few other ingredients and your child will have a smile on his or her face Easter Morning. You can get Sugar free chocolate at Cake Cottage or your local Cake store. I believe also Cake Cottage has a online store where you could purchase the molds and chocolate on line and they can send it to you.

Happy Easter To All From Our Family To Yours.

Have You Started To Make Your Shopping List For Christmas Yet?

2011-10-28T18:52:00.001-04:00

Have you started to make your shopping list for Christmas yet? As the holiday are fast approaching us stores like K-Mart and Wal Mart are now opening there layaway department. Using layaway it allows customers to pick up what they want now for the holidays and pay a little on it each week. This in return lets customers get all the items they want on their list before the rush starts, and allows them to pay for them over time making it alot easier on families.

As my family grow and my daughter has married this year we have had to add a few names to our shopping list for Christmas. I start each year by making and list and deciding on how much I have to spend total. I then decide if we are buying just for the kids or for everyone depending on the finances for the year.

This year gifts at my home will be home made. As finances are very tight here since my husband has stage 4 cancer there is nothing coming in and I have MS. We are struggling like so many other families in the US but we are still together.

My family a few years ago gave me a wonderful gift of some crochet yarn some crochet needles a few books about crocheting and a container to place my yarn in. This gift was very special to me as my mom used to crochet when I was young. I had learned a few stitches when I was in my teens. Back in February I had a stroke and ended up in the hospital and then for almost a month in a rehab facility. My sister in-law brought me a needle in and 2 skeins of yarn. My hands were not working correctly my left one hardly could hold anything at all and I could not move it over my head, much less up in the air to much. I went and started pulling out the yarn and started to try rolling it in a ball. I would do this over and over making my fingers and hands work. Using my fingers to grasp the ball of yarn as I used the other one to roll it on the ball of yarn. I can't tell you how many times I dropped this yarn or the ball of yarn.

This year my children that are grown are getting some hand made crocheted afgans. I have been taking my yarn every other week with me to the hospital as my husband goes through cancer treatments and crocheting afgans for Christmas gifts for the family. Once I finish with this last one I am working on now I will start a few poncho's for my granddaughter as well as a scarf and hat set. I also already finished a single blanket that is all crocheted for her bed. Her favorite colors are pink and purple so I found some varigated yarn that was purple and pink and I used a dark purple to off set it. Her blanks is just beautiful.

Santa Signs Are Out Telling Customers He Will Be Arriving Soon!

2011-10-27T19:45:00.001-04:00

This week I took my husband to get some things he need so we went to Walmart here in our area. There was a sign already out telling customers that Santa would arive November 6, 2011 here where we live in Maryland. I was surprised to see it as this weekend is Halloween and is the end of October. The sign made my husband start to think about will he be here for Christmas as he has stage 4 cancer. He told me he wanted to start to pick up a few things for our granddaughter as well as the kids because he may not be able to go out as it gets colder and I seen tears begin to run down his face. I asked him what was wrong and he said he didn't know if he'd be here to see the kids at Christmas. It choaked me up and I to had to hold back the tears so he didn't see me so upset. We never seem to think about these types of things till something happens to someone in your own family or a very very close friend. For the last few months as I sit at the hospital I have been making crocheted blankets for our kids and one for my granddaughter. I told Howard we can start picking things up or he could look on the computer and order something for the kids that he didn't have to worry they would have something from him. He took a breath turned and looked at me from the scooter he was in and said ok I never thought of ordering things for them online. I said yeah if you do it soon you will have everything ready and wrapped before the holidays. Lots of older people can't make their way in to the stores when it gets cold out and crowded with holiday shoppers. So shopping on line makes their life a little bit easier for them. This is also great for people that are handycapped in one way or another giving them a choice and the freedom they deserve. Happy Holidays Everyone!

Well the simple answer....he's been burned.

Yesterdays Bread Gives A Helping Hand In Baltimore Maryland

2010-11-21T22:07:00.000-05:00

With Thanksgiving here now this week and Christmas just around the corner we have more and more families finding it harder to make ends meet. I want to tell you a little bit about Brigid a friend of mine. She has site she is running called Yesterdays Bread where she helps the families in our own area that need a helping hand.

Brigid goes to several stores in our area and gets day old bread as well as other items like vegetables from the farmers in our area. Items they can not use any more because it did not sell. Brig goes and picks up these items with her 2 girls and her son. She transport them back home sorts the items out and begins handing them out to families that need bread or fresh vegetable Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays from 1pm till 6pm. She has a small jar there for donations to help with the cost of gas and items she may buy so everyone can have something that day. Brig gives her time and does not get paid for what she is doing.

Brig helps feed the families in Baltimore Country and Baltimore City each week. She is collecting cloths, shoes and toys this year for over a 170 needy kids and list just keeps growing as she tells me. "170 kids registered with more applications coming in every day. An yes we need adult sizes too.

Kindle vs. Nook (updated 11/06/2010)5
If you're trying to choose between a nook and a kindle, perhaps I can help. My wife and I bought a nook, a kindle 2, and a kindle DX this summer, just days before the kindle 3 was announced. After using them intensively for a few weeks, we returned them and pre-ordered two kindle 3's, which we have been enjoying for two months now. We've each read a lot of books and newspaper/magazine articles on our kindle 3's and are very happy with them.

First, reasons why we prefer the kindle over nook:

* Page refresh speed
Kindle 2 was twice as fast as nook, Kindle 3 is slightly faster yet. However, I read a whole book on the nook and didn't find page refresh to be so slow as to be annoying. You get used to it, and automatically develop the habit of pressing the page turn button a second before you need it.

* Navigation speed
Here is where the kindle has a huge advantage. Moving the cursor around the screen (e.g. to select things) is way, way, way better on kindle than nook. When you use the rocker button (on kindle 3, or the joystick on kindle 2), the cursor moves almost immediately. In contrast, when you use the "virtual rocker button" on nook's color touch screen, there's a noticeable lag before the cursor moves. Plus, just to get to the cursor control on the nook, you have to turn on its color touch screen (which is normally off when not in use, to save battery power). This adds to the lag time. [UPDATE: Nook will soon get a software update that supposedly speeds up performance, specifically navigation and page turns. If this were a software issue, why wasn't it fixed a long time ago? No software update can compensate for a slow processor.]

* Screen contrast
You've seen Amazon's claims that the Kindle 3 e-ink has 50% better contrast. I can tell you, it makes a difference, particularly in low light conditions, when you have to strain a little to make out the not quite as dark characters on Kindle 2 and Nook. When lighting is not ideal, it's much easier and more pleasant to read on Kindle 3 and Kindle DX than on Nook or Kindle 2.

* Battery life
The nook's color LCD touch screen drains its battery quickly - I could never get more than 5 days out of a charge. We got at least 7 days or more on the Kindle 2, and the Kindle 3 uses a battery with more capacity than Kindle 2's battery. My wife and I each get at least 3 weeks of battery life between charges (we keep wireless off about half the time).

* Weight
Nook weighs about 3 ounces more than the new Kindle, and you can really feel the difference. Without a case, Nook is still light enough to hold in one hand for long reading sessions without fatigue. But in a case, Nook is a heavy sucker and wears you out after a while. I found myself taking Nook out of its case when I was reading Girl Who Kicked the Hornets Nest. The new Kindle 3 is so light, even in a case, my wife and I find it comfortable holding in one hand for long reading sessions.

Reasons some people might prefer the nook:

* In-store experience
If you need help with your nook, you can take it to any barnes and noble and get a real human to help. You can take your nook into the coffee shop section of your local B&N store and read any book for free for up to one hour per day. When you take your nook to B&N, some in-store special deals and the occasional free book pop up on your screen.

* User-replaceable battery
After a year or two of moderate use, the battery will start to lose its ability to hold a charge. Nook's battery is user-replaceable and relatively inexpensive. To replace Kindle's battery, you must ship your Kindle to Amazon. Amazon's customer service told me that they ship you back a DIFFERENT kindle (though the same model as yours) with a new battery inside. I really don't like this, at all.

* ePub and loaning e-books
Nook uses the ePub format, a widely used open format. Amazon uses a proprietary ebook format. Many libraries will "lend" ebooks in the ePub format, which works with nook but not kindle. Nook owners can "loan" ebooks they purchased to other nook owners for up to two weeks. You can't do this with kindle.
[UPDATE: Kindle will soon get the same lending feature that Nook has.]

* Nook's color LCD touchscreen
This could be a pro or con, depending on your preferences. It makes nook hipper and less drab than kindle. Some people enjoy using the color LCD to view their library or navigate. I did, at first. But after two weeks of use, and comparisons with my wife's kindle, I found the dedicated buttons of the kindle easier and far quicker to use than the nook's color touchscreen. I also found the bright light from the color screen distracting when I was trying to read a book or newspaper (though when not in use, it shuts off after a minute or so to conserve battery).

A few other notes:

* MP3 player
I've used it on the Kindle 3, and it has less features than a first-generation ipod shuffle: no way to select a specific track to hear, let alone see the name of the currently playing track.

* Web browser
The browser on Kindle 3 is easier to use than Nook's browser, particularly when navigating. But neither is really very good, most people will probably use their e-reader's browser only in a pinch.

* PDF support
Viewing PDFs is better on Kindle 3 than on Kindle 2 or nook, but still not that great. You have to zoom in on part of the page and pan around to read the page, which is slightly cumbersome; this is less an issue on Kindle DX, because of the DX's much bigger display. Graphics in my PDF documents don't usually display correctly on Kindle, and sometimes Kindle can't even open the PDF file if it has certain kinds of graphics. I imagine the only worthwhile use of Kindle's PDF compatibility would be if you're trying to read an e-book that comes in PDF format, provided it was pre-formatted for reading on a device with a 6" display. Of course, you can convert many PDF documents to Kindle's native format (you do this by attaching the PDF document to an email that you send to a certain address).

SUMMARY:

Nook and Kindle each offer their own advantages. We like the nook's user-replaceable battery, compatibility with ePub format, and in-store experience. But we strongly prefer Kindle 3 because its performance is far zippier, it's screen is easier to read, and its smaller and lighter so it's more portable and more comfortable to hold in one hand for long reading sessions.

So much fun!5
My kids just received this Thanksgiving day as a gift and I am now ordering them for every child I know. It is such a cute idea. Santa sends the elf to watch the children and then the elf reports to Santa every night and comes back to a different spot in the house. My kids wake up with a running start to see who can find the elf first. The kids must name the elf and they really enjoyed that as well. It is such a nice tradition to help make the Christmas Season even more fun and special. I know it will be with our family for a very long time.

The Elf Is Coming to Our House Every Year!5
After hearing from friends and reading reviews how great this was, we bit the bullet and got it. I cannot say enough about how cute this was for our two boys (age 6 and 3). They bolted downstairs every morning to find the elf, and the oldest cried when he touched it accidentally because he thought it would lose its magic. The story and elf was the sweetest thing. Note, however, that parents have to remember to move the elf around every night, or come up with creative excuses for why the elf decided to come back from the North Pole into the same spot! :-).

Elf on a Shelf5
We just received this as a gift. It is perfect for my 3 year old who is having constant struggles with being a good little boy as he grows more independent. We've named our elf and everyday we remind him that his elf is watching him and he instantly stops the negative behavior. He's even told his wish list for Santa to his elf. It's been a great motivational tool for improving his behavior when other techniques have failed. Brilliant idea!!

Last Minute Shopping.

2009-12-19T01:46:00.001-05:00

With the Holidays here now its hard to find time to do all the things we need to. I still have shopping to do. Yes I am in the boat just like so many others are. I am the last minute shopper.

I had to run out tonight after work as the weather man is calling for snow so off to the grocery store I went. Yes bread milk eggs and some snacks, I also got things to bake cookies for tomorrow as well as cat food. There is a winter weather forecast saying we will get 10 to 20 inchs of snow here tomorrow. This storm is going to hit us hard, not just because of the snow but because I do not have all my shopping finished this year.

With the time running out on me as Christmas is next week I have to get myself into the swing of things and get a few things ordered as its the last day to order on line in time for my gifts to arrive in time. Unless I over night them. Yes that is possible at our store. Its almost 2 am here right now and the snow has started coming down its light but its snowing. May you all have a white Christmas.

2009-12-09T20:17:00.005-05:00

Needy families all over the USA are asking for help this holiday season. As the holiday is getting closer more and more families are getting turned away from organizations. Can you be a sponsor this year to make a child's Christmas a little brighter this holiday season? I have 5 families right now asking for help during this holiday season. If you can donate anything at all please let me know. To find out more please contact Shirley Bollinger at http://www.Happyholidaygiftstore4u@yahoo.com and let me know you would like to be a sponsor.

Right now I have a 27 year old mother of three baby girls asking for help for her family. Her name is Susan and she has a 2 month old, a 3 year old and a 5 year old. She has no money for gifts for her children that still believe in Santa. She has no decorations or Tree and she is desperate at this point. Susan has asked several organizations for help only to be turned away at this time. She has contacted church's in her area only to be told its to late to help her. They are in need of clothing as well as toys
With just a little over two weeks left to Christmas, can we find someone to adopt these families for Christmas.

Christmas Shopping Tips

2009-12-09T15:51:00.002-05:00

Before you run out and finish your Christmas shopping make a list and place a few ideas next to each name on your list. Remember to place your list in a secure place so that someone on your Christmas List will not see it.
You will need to remember when placing your bags in your car or truck make sure they are not in plain site for anyone to see. Remember lock your car or truck up after placing items inside. Do not leave money or items in your car or truck people can see.

Pick pockets are out at this time of year keep all your money inside a zipper area on inner pocket to make it harder for someone to get at your valuables. Do not leave your packages unattended while placing a child in the car.

Keep your eyes open and know who is around you. If you feel something is wrong make sure you ask a security officer to walk you to your car. Its better to be over protected then have something happen to you. Lock your door when getting into your car or truck them place your seat belt on. It only takes a moment for someone to open your car door.

The Silent Tears Fall As A Mother Asks For Help

2009-11-27T07:59:00.005-05:00

Thanksgiving Day we found out one of our own family members are in trouble, as tears run down her face she begins to tell our family what has happened.

She is just in her 20s with 2 children one on each hand married and no home to go back to. Her family are now being passed from friend to friend and family member to family member. As she tells her story it brought tears to my eyes yesterday, my own daughter and granddaughter live with me I know its got to be so hard on them.

Her name is Anna and this is her story. Anna and Matt long time sweethearts got married very young having kids like any other married couple. Young and with babies a new family like so many other families, things were tight. They struggled as most families do that are just starting out just making ends meet and they survive with the help of family members. Yes that is what families do help one another. We have all been there one time or another. She has been staying with a friend with her family in a apartment. Not long mind you and someone turns them in for having to many people in one place. Her friend is told by the apartment complex to remove them or they will be evicted.

So again she pulls her family and leaves. Ending up with her brother and his friend in townhouse where her mom and her brother mike is living with his two kids. Now there is 9 people in one small townhouse. Its tight and crowded but they are family and can do it right. Wrong again they have been turned in as to many are in this home and they are told they must leave. How can a family, a mother and her brother put her on the street with her family. Two young kids and no where to go. She is determined to keep her family together even if it means living in shelters if room is available. Here its the end of November so it cold here now as she lives in the Northern states of the USA.

People say get a job she has one working in a mortgage company with no transportation as their car was broken down more then it ran. Her husband is now out of work as he laid carpet for a small company. Due to no work available he was let go. So where do you turn where do you go she asked. She cries silently at night as her children sleep not knowing what to do next.

This got me thinking since I have a on line shop here I have called out to anyone that hears me to purchase something from my sight and all proceeds that I would make will now go to Anna and her family.

As I drove home thinking how can I help as she is not the only one in this situation so many other families are having problems now to. Times are hard on a lot of families so lets do something about. Well I have thought about this for hours and wrote a few articles on the net telling anyone that would read it to come to my site and if you know someone that needs help to write me here on the bottom in the comment section of my site. I also ask if you can sponsor a family or help just one Child this Holiday Season please let me know. You can write here on the comment section or email me at HappyHolidayGiftStore4u@yahoo.com and put in the Heading. Needy Family and I will read your Messages each day. Remember all of December proceeds I will give to Anna and her Family. I will also match up needy Children and families to Sponsors that that have contacted me so they can help by placing something under their tree for a needy Child or Family. Click on OUR STORE and please enjoy your Holiday Season from our family to yours Happy Holidays.
