Some people believes that watching TV is bad for you, but they are quite wrong. Everything has its benefits and its weaknesses.

Benefits:

Intelligence
Relax
Learn about other cultures
Excitement
Something to chat about
Memory
Family Bondage
Exercise.... with enough will power :D

Weaknesses:

Laziness, TV works magic... and yes, it works both ways :P
Dullness
Bad eyesight

TV might make people lazy, but it could increase your intelligence. Some series like Lost, Heroes, CSI, Battle Star Galatica, Criminal Minds, and etc. requires you to actually think about what's going on to be able to understand it. Then there are also educational channels like History Channel, Discovery Channel, Science Channel, Military Channel, and so on. Then TV's also help people relax. People get home from work most of the times, exhausted. All they would want to do is relax and enjoy the rest of their day. The best part about TV is that you are able to explore all the cultures around the world, wasting only less than about 1/100th of what you'd have to spend if you actually traveled. TV gives alot of people topics on what to talk about, without these topics, conversations would probably be really boring. TV also bring some families together with "movie night" or game night.
