Here are some of my favorite Houston Dynamo photos from the first 3 home games of the 2011 season.

First home game of the season was against the Philadelphia Union with the Union winning 1-0.

Back on February 5, 2011 the Houston Dynamo held their groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Houston Dynamo Stadium. Actual work on the stadium did not start until the first week of March 2011. Opening day is scheduled for sometime in the second quarter of 2012.

I've started documenting the building of the stadium and have a few pictures that show the progress after two weeks of construction.

Progress as of 3/11/11.

Work had just started a day or two before this photos was taken on 3/4/11.

This first photo was shot on 2/22/11 before any work had started.

The Denver Gold were at the Astrodome to take on the Houston Gamblers on March 18, 1985. Denver's head coach was Mouse Davis who in 1984 brought the Run and Shoot offense to the Houston Gamblers.

Dynamo Stadium Groundbreaking

After receiving final approvals from Harris County and the City of Houston the Houston Dynamo were ready for the official stadium groundbreaking on February 5, 2011. Back in 2005 the decision was made to move the San Jose Earthquake to Houston in anticipation of building a soccer specific stadium. Oliver Luck, then President of the Houston Dynamo, led the way in securing a new stadium and after several years and with the involvement of the Harris County - Houston Sports Authority progress was being made.

Finally in February 2011 the final approvals were granted and the stage set for the Dynamo Stadium Groundbreaking.

Dynamo President Chris Canetti, Houston Mayor Annise Parker , and Harris County Judge Ed Emmett break ground for the new Houston Dynamo Stadium.

Dynamo 2011 Kit and Greenstar

Tuesday December 7, 2010 the Houston Dynamo held a press conference to unveil their new 2011 kit and new jersey sponsor. The press conference was held at Discovery Green across the street from George R. Brown Convention Center. There was also a nice turn out of local Houston press and some Dynamo fans.

For the past 4 years the Houston Dynamo jersey sponsor has been Amigo Energy. Apparently the contract has expired and along with unveiling the new Dynamo kit Houston also introduced their new jersey sponsor. Greenstar, a recycling company based out of Houston, is the new sponsor and has signed on for 5 years and $12.7 million to have their logo on front of the Dynamo jerseys.

USFL: Arizona Wranglers v Houston Gamblers

Well I've been a little slow in updating my blog and my only excuse has been lack of time. So here we go and hopefully I can keep up. The Houston Gamblers made the playoffs in their first season and would take on the Arizona Wranglers in the Astrodome on July 1, 1984. The game was close but did not go well for Houston as Arizona edged them out 17-16 and advanced in the playoffs.

Either Robert Smith of Arizona is really fast or he was off sides in this play against Jim Kelly.

Houston Dynamo Preseason

The Houston Dynamo started training for the 2010 season at the beginning of February. Seems like the 2009 season just ended and here we go again. And I had the opportunity to shoot a couple of their scrimmages. The first was against HBU and I could see a big difference between the college and pro levels. The Dynamo had more control of the game and played a lot more physical. Final score was 6-0 Houston.

A week later Houston was taking on SMU in a scrimmage at the Carl Lewis Track & Field Complex. SMU is well respected in Division 1 soccer but once the Dynamo got going SMU was not able to stop them. The Houston Dynamo won 4-0.

InterLiga: Tigres v Monterrey

The second InterLiga match of the night pitted Tigres against Monterrey and whereas the first match was a little quite this match would prove to be the opposite. The Monterrey fans had two different supporter groups in the stands and shouted their support throughout the match.

Monterrey fans brave 50 degree weather in support of their team against Tigres.

The first half of the match showed strong defensive play from both sides.

In the 53rd minute Jose Gonzalez of Tigres would break free and hit the back of the net putting his team up 1-0. This goal quieted down the throngs of Monterrey fans with disbelief and the match turned into an all out effort by Monterrey to even up the score.

The match looked to be over as it moved into stoppage time and it seemed Tigres would squeeze out a 1-0 victory. But in the the 90th plus 1 minute Jose Maria Basanta scored the match winning tie.

InterLiga: Jaguares v Puebla

On Wednesday January 6, 2010 the final two InterLiga matches were held at Robertson Stadium. The first of these two had Jaguares taking on Puebla. Both sides spent a lot of time charging each others goal but points were few. Jaguares had 12 shots at goal while Puebla had 11. Defense ruled this match.

InterLiga: Club America v Santos Laguna

The second half of the InterLiga doubleheader last Saturday saw Club America taking on Santos Laguna at Robertson Stadium in Houston Texas. Club America was the more popular of the two teams and was well represented by their Houston fans.

Santos Laguna would tie up the match in the 31st minute with a goal by Juan Pablo Rodriguez. However, the second half was all Club America. Daniel Montenegro of Club America would score in the 62 minute giving them a 2-1 lead.

InterLiga: Atlante FC v Estudiantes Tecos

This past Saturday the 2010 InterLiga kicked off at Robertson Stadium in Houston Texas with a double header. The first match featured Atlante FC taking on Estudiantes Tecos. Atlante FC scored in the 10th minute to take a 1-0 lead. Mauro Emiliano Cejas of Estudiantes Tecos would tie up the match in the 29th minute.

In the 45th minute Jose Daniel Guerrero was given a red card and Atlante FC played the remainder of the match one man down.

At the beginning of the second half Guillermo Rojas of Atlante FC slipped past the Tecos defense and gave Atlante FC the lead, 2-1. Atlante FC played tough defense for the rest of the match to defeat Estudiantes Tecos 2-1.

USFL: Memphis Showboats v Houston Gamblers

The last game of the 1984 season saw the Memphis Showboats at the Astrodome to take on the Houston Gamblers. Houston defeated Memphis 37-3 and finished their first season 13-5. Memphis finished the season 7-11.

USFL: San Antonio Gunslingers v Houston Gamblers

With only two games left in the 1984 season the San Antonio Gunslingers were at the Astrodome on Monday June 18, 1984 to take on the Houston Gamblers. Houston was sitting at 12-5 and trying to make the playoffs whereas San Antonio was 6-10 and wanting to play spoiler.

The Houston Gamblers enter the field. This part of the field was dirt since they shared the Astrodome with the Houston Astros.

Jim Kelly would pass and run the team to a close 29-26 victory over San Antonio.
