Twisted Twist Out! (Revisited)

This is my 4 day experienment with a twistout using various products.

Day 1 - Used Curls Unleashed Curl Defining Cream

(I didn't really like this cream but it did the job)

*Lesson Learned: My hair likes butters!*

Day 2 - Used Kinky Curly Knot Today and Shea Moisture Coconut Hibiscus Hold/Shine Mist to Retwist. (Retwisted with fair results but the shea moisture hold/mist seemed to dry out my hair) *Lesson Learned: I didn't need to add more product after day 1*:) - I should have just retwisted my hair!

Day 3 - Purchased Beautiful Textures Moisture Butter to Retwist Hair

(Retwisted with textures product and water - EXCELLENT RESULTS)

Day 4 - Retwisted using NO PRODUCT! (OMG AWESOME) and added a little bit of organic coconut oil for moisture and shine!

Overall, I really enjoyed this twistout. I learned that with my hair a butter goes a long way! Also I only need to reapply product when my twist out truly gets out of control!

Kinky Curly Curling Custard - Test Run!

Ok! So the first time I purchased Kinky Curly Curling Custard was about 3 years ago. It was an EPIC FAIL! My hair was extremely greasy, heavy, and crunchy looking. I purchased the product a few years later and experienced yet another EPIC FAIL - I gave the product away both times. However, after much discussion with my homegirl, YT (Youtube) exploration, and review, I decided to try it one last time. And guess what, it WORKED! It really worked and I like the results!

Kinky Curly Curling Custard $16.99 @ Target

This product takes your existing curl pattern and locks it into place so if you don't really have a curl pattern then this may not work for you . It's an organic gel and when used correctly can really enhance your existing curl pattern.

Application Steps/Tips:

Wash/Conditioner Hair
Apply leave in conditioner (today I used Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie)
Seal with Oil (today I used refined coconut oil/applied to ends of hair)
Seal with Creme (today I used Kinky Curly Knot Today Conditioner)
Section hair using clips based on the length/density of hair
Apply small amount of product to palm and rub hands together (apply dime to quarter size amount depending on hair density)
Smooth product into hair using praying hands method (place hands together as if you are praying)
Let hair air dry or sit under hooded dryer ( I prefer to sit under a hooded dryer)
Fluff with favorite oil and GO! That's It!

Troubleshooting

ISSUE - WHITE FLAKES - Caused by applying to much product or the custard does not work well with the applied oil or leave in

SOLUTION: Try a different leave - in and oil combination!

Style Tips

Curls Paste - Used to slick down edges and unruly curls. The paste looks like honey and because of its organic properties it washes out easily!

Illamasqua Nail Polish/Varnishes are HOT! This $14.00 polish is my favorite! The color pay off is awesome and will turn heads. Expect this polish to last close to two weeks with mininum care. Apply one to two coats depending on how bright you want the color. Polish works well with OPI top coat as well as other top coat finishes!

Summer is truly all about color. Nothing says look at me like these lovely red lips. Combo includes Mac's Lady Bug and Victoria Secrets Cherry bomb lipgloss. Don't like it bright well layer a dark liner on first and add color. Wanna tone it down dab your lips with a tissue paper for a matte look!

My Curly Girl Hair Routine

The curly girl handbook featured to the right provides tips about curly hair. The book features women with different types of curl patterns and focuses on embracing natural texture. The "curly girl method" is well known in the natural world however every natural has their own unique styling method. It took me some time to figure out what my hair needed but it was well worth the journey!

My curly girl hair routine consist of the following:
1. Co-wash hair with Tressemme Natural Conditioner
(a) Detangle, masssage scalp, and rinse conditioner with cold water.
(b) Reapply Tressemme Natural Conditioner and leave in hair
2. Apply Mizani True Textures Curl Soft Leave in Conditioner
3. Apply Mixed Silk Elements Leaving In Conditioning Creme
4. Style hair as desired, diffuse with blow dryer or air dry.
This process reduces frizz, maintains moisture, and allows me to wear
my curls without re-washing for 5 days!

Night Time Routine
1. Place hair into a 3 pineapples using ouchless bans.
2. Spray water on each ponytail and add olive oil to seal in moisture.
3. Place bonnet on head and prepare for bed
4. If your scalp get dry at night, add a little bit of olive to your scalp

Morning Routine (2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th day hair routine)
1. Remove pineapple and bonnet
2. Using your hands shake hair out
3. If needed spray water on hair and add olive oil for moisture and shine
**I sometimes use gel to refresh my curls along with water and oil.

I love anything that is different. This low and high sheer top adds chic style to any wardrobe. I found this top at TJ Maxx for less than $20. Love it. I wore it to work. It's so stylish and will certainly turn heads!

I paired this with some basic black pants and nude heel sandals. There is no need to add a lot of assesories, the
shirt speaks for itself.

The shirt has what I call bat wings and a cute button in the back for added drama. See pictures below.

My favorite concealers!

Warm months for most of us means less make up and more skin. With that being said who doesn't want perfect skin. These are the days that I consistently rock my concealer only method. Meaning I only use concealer to even out my skin tone, cover blemishes, and dark circles. Concealer is a must have for anyone interested in a perfect natural look. Below are detailed descriptions of my favorite concealers.

1. MAC Prolong Wear NW 35 ($17.00) - I love this concealer. It's provides medium coverage and last for up to 15 hours. The product is build-able, easy to blend, and works well with other products. The container is glass and the pump can be a little messy at times. However, a little goes a long way. I like to use this concealer under my eyes especially for work and long meeting days when I will not have time to touch up my makeup. The product tries quickly so you have to work fast. You can apply it with your fingers or with a brush. I prefer a brush. It truly last all day!

2. MAC Select Cover NW 35 ($17.00)- This concealer offers light coverage. In my opinion it also brightens. I use it under my eyes for a semi Kim Kardashian look. This product gives a very dewy finish and works best for normal to dry skin. Its a liquid formula and applies very easily to the skin. You can apply it with your finger or a brush. The product is build-able and works well alone or with other products.

3. MAC Studio Finish NW 35 ($17.00) - This concealer provides heavy coverage. It covers severe dark circles and pimples with ease. This product is very intense and can be cakey if you apply to much. However, with proper application it can provide a very nice finish to the skin. You will need to set this concealer with a powder so that it can stay in place. Photographs well and can also provide a very natural finish. Sometimes I do add a brightening concealer on top of this product to highlight the under eye area.

4. NYX HD Concealer Tan ($4.99) - This product brightens the under eye area with ease. The concealer also works well with MAC concealers. It offers light coverage and can be used as a eye brow highlighter. I use this product almost daily for a quick and easy "bright eyed" look. The price point isn't bad either. I purchased this online at NYX.com for $4.99. This color is a little lighter than my skin tone so I primarily use it to highlight and brighten my eyes.

NARS Love Yourself Blush and Bronzing Powder

This is my favorite new blush and lip gloss combo! The set is $49 at Sephora but it is so worth it. The blush color looks great on any skin tone and offers a buildable hint of color. The full size blush is a great value. One Nars blush retails for $25. So a two for the price of one combo, rocks! Set includes blush color Angelica and bronzer Laguna. The lip gloss is called Angelica and matches the blush while providing long lasting color. I already use and love the Nars Sheer Glow foundation. So this set definitely meets my expectations. It is well worth the money. You will look like a million dollars! wink wink:)

My Favorite Things for Spring 2012

There are lots of trends to follow in spring 2012, from the smoky eye, colorful accessories, to pops of color. Of these trends, my favorites include a bright red lipstick and a trendsetting fedora.

Red lipstick is in for spring! There are so many different kinds of reds. I recently found an inexpensive fiery orange at Walgreens for $1.69(Wet n Wild, Salsa Lessons). This color is all you need to set off your face. It makes people look at you and makes a colorful statement. I like that its bright but not clownish on my tan skin. The lipstick glides on very well and provides even color!

My other favorite is a tan and black ribbon fedora. This is a reoccurring spring/summer trend from 2011 but it is so stylish and adds a bit of couture to any look. I like wearing my hat with skinny jeans, and shorts! The featured hat's style reminds me of a Micheal Jackson video but it also very boho with the wicker texture. I found this at Forever21 for less than $10.00.

These two favorites also work well together and create a very cool and causal look!

March Glam Bag Review(better not best)

I was excited to see the little pink package in the mail this week. Hoping that after many complaints posted on the site about last month's bag, this month's bag would rock out. Well, not so much. Maybe I am expecting to much in the first place. But the good news is that it came with the cutest blending brush and case, great for travel. But the bag itself smelled like moth balls, what's up with that! This month's bag featured the following products:

Mizani Moisturfuse Conditioner

I recently decided to switch up my conditioner and try something new. This conditioner is a high end product noted for its ability to restore and bind moisture into the hair. It is also slated to improve manageability. Last night was my first time using it. My hair felt really nice. However, I want to see how my hair responds over time. My first glam bag! Happy/Sad Face

Ok so there is a beauty subscription program by make up guru Michelle Phan. The bag shown below is the February Glam bag. Items in the bag include

I paint my nails once a week. And without fail within a few days they start to peel and split. I have tried all kinds of remedies and nail care plans. But this product gets my approval.
