Now it looks like the Paterson, N.J. native has his very own trap queen — so to speak — and her name is Alexis Sky.

The beautiful model may not be trapping on the block, but the half-Dominican, half-Jamaican bombshell is certainly trapping the fellas with her beauty on Instagram. The 20-year-old New York native is not afraid to show off her bodacious curves to over 314,000 of her followers.

She also doesn’t mind letting fans know that she’s holding down Fetty Wap. There are several pictures of them together in bed on her Instagram page and in one video, she tagged him her Man Crush Monday (#MCM) so you know it’s official.

Not much is known about Sky, who is an Atlanta-based model and party host. The 5-foot 1-inch beauty is a Cancer, which likely means she’s loyal, brave and kind to her mate. Azealia Banks gets catty for Playboy magazine’s Music Issue. After revealing the mag’s cover photo, the 23-year-old rapper shared a couple of pictures from her sexy spread in the magazine.

Shot by famed fashion photographer Ellen Von Unwerth, the photos feature Banks mimicking the behavior of a furry feline. In one pic, the “212? rhymer is holding a huge ball of yarn just like a cat and in another photo, Banks is naked splashing in a pool of milk. In a third shot, she stares at the camera with her cat-like eyes wearing a feline headpiece and looking like a real-life cat woman.

Although the photos are kind of tame considering Playboy’s history of nude women, Banks tells the magazine she was eager to shed her clothes. “Posing for Playboy was a no-brainer. I was like, ‘Yes! They want to see me naked,’” she tells writer Rob Tannenbaum.

Also in the interview, Banks talks about her mother, her past Twitter feuds, religion and her bisexuality.

At one point in the discussion, she reveals that she once dated a man who was 43 years old when she was 17.

“There’s something very wrong with a man that age who wants to date a 17-year-old girl,” she says. “I didn’t know how to shave my bush and s— like that. I had a hairy p—-. I didn’t know how to wear perfume. I had neon pink barrettes in my hair. And as ’212' started to pop off and my career started to happen, he became jealous.”

“He choked me and beat me up, and of course you should not be f—ing with a man who puts his hands on you, but I was stupid and young,” she finished.

As for a music artist she would like to emulate her career after, Banks named the richest man in the rap game.

“Jay Z. That’s the only person I have my eye set on. The race thing always comes up, but I want to get there being very black and proud and boisterous about it,” she states. “A lot of times when you’re a black woman and you’re proud, that’s why people don’t like you. In American society, the game is to be a nonthreatening black person. Jay Z hasn’t played any of those games, and that’s what I like.”

Playboy magazine’s Music Issue, featuring the catty Azealia Banks, hits newsstands this Friday (March 20).

It's not a game

A photo posted by Azealia Banks (@azealiabanks) on Mar 16, 2015 at 9:50am PDT

Watch Azealia Banks’ Behind the Scenes Playboy Shoot VideoWhat’s Beef? 10 Hip-Hop Twitter Feuds

View the original article here

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07280592865471280467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3002408074622458530.post-31927880596561038232015-04-06T21:28:00.000-04:002015-04-06T21:28:00.141-04:0015 Rappers That Are Way More Luckier Than You
Contact Us
Bob Levey/Angela Weiss/Dimitrios Kambouris, Getty Images
Making it in the rap game naturally requires at least some luck. Proving that you’re the artist that labels or the public should listen to in a sea of talent is inherently a task that requires a little bit of chance to be mixed with talent. Other rappers are making it out of situations where, to reference Nas, making it to 20 is a blessing.

Many overlook the fact that staying afloat after making it requires luck, too. That’s where some rappers see their luck run out. Just look at the Bad Boy roster (shout out to Loon and Red Cafe) and Young Money (many artists on the label haven’t even released an album yet).

When all that is considered, the following rappers have it pretty good given the landmines they hit to reach their current status. Some, like Chamillionaire, decided to refocus their energy outside of rap. Others were granted a second life, either after a prison sentence or some sort of career purgatory. However, all of the following 15 are thriving in some way after watching many of their peers fall into a state of perpetual struggle. And all of them have luck on their side.

Meek Mill, Common and Riff Raff are some of the rappers who managed to survive despite hitting their own respective quagmires. See who else are making it some way, somehow through the luck of the (predominantly black) Irish with 15 Rappers That Are Way More Luckier Than You.

If you’re over 20, you probably remember how big of a deal “Ridin’” was when it dropped during the MTV TRL era. If you’re the average person, you can’t name another song by Chamillionaire since this was his only hit. He maintained a good underground following with his Mixtape Messiah series, but the days of being the song on everyone’s ringtone are over. So Chamillionaire eventually decided to switch his focus away from rhyming. He became an “entrepreneur-in-residence” at Upfront Ventures, an investment firm. This meant Cham didn’t have to rap for the rest of his life and no longer had to ride dirty. The Chamillitary was proud.

Bun B’s catalog isn’t as lauded as some of his peers (OutKast, but to be fair, that goes for most rap acts), but he’s done the game proud with his OG status. He’s one of the most respected rhymers in hip-hop history and a big reason is because he’s a brilliant guy outside of the verses and hooks. The rapper known to many as Bernard Freeman has been teaching courses on hip-hop and religion at Rice University and has even released a coloring book with writer Shea Serrano.

It wasn’t that long ago when Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy were homeless. But the two made a party out of their poverty. Rae Sremmurd recalled that when they stayed at an abandoned house, they decided to work on music and invite people over for parties. That’s sort of their thing now. They don’t just turn up; they’ve gained renown for turning up. They had last year’s biggest hits -- “No Type” and “No Flex Zone” -- before they reached drinking age.

Riff Raff had two things working against him. First, he was on G’s to Gents -- that MTV show where Fonzworth Bentley tries to turn ruffians into his vision of a gentlemen. He lost that competition and he was losing for a long time at rap. The rapper's debut album, Neon Icon, was constantly delayed and people didn’t know what to make of his existence: Was he a joke, and if so, was he in on it. But he’s definitely more relevant now than anybody on G’s to Gents, including Bentley. Plus, Riff Raff is transitioning into wrestling. He went on this insane pizza-based regimen to gain 55 pounds in order to make it into the ring. Riff Raff makes absurdity work.

First off, Meek Mill was lucky to make it off the rough Philly streets. Surviving in the rap game is another story, though. For whatever reason, Kendrick Lamar likes to release his major label projects a week before Maybach Music Group releases, (inadvertently?) overshadowing them. Before it was announced that To Pimp a Butterfly would be released a week ahead of Wale’s The Album About Nothing, Lamar’s release of the modern classic good kid, m.A.A.d city drowned out whatever noise Dreams and Nightmares brought a week later. Fortunately, Meek’s debut had that thrilling intro, which became one of the genre’s big showstoppers and instant quotable of the decade.

Meek got lucky again after prison. He has the arduous task of re-building hype for Dreams Worth More Than Money after Rick Ross’s two middling 2014 releases. But hey, the dude somehow scooped up Nicki Minaj.

Common albums don’t sell anymore. Despite critical respect and the fact that he's Common, Nobody's Smiling sold less than 40,000 -- a disappointment even by today's standards. Fortunately, at 42, the MC doesn’t need to rely on rap. He has movies and poorly conceived television shows (it must’ve been a damn good pitch that sold a furniture show hosted by Common). He also has “Glory.” Common made up for his stoic performance in Selma with that duet with John Legend. Plus, the two put on an Oscars performance so good that it made Selma’s Martin Luther King David Oyelowo cry. Not the kind where your eyes water up and a tear accidentally falls. Oyelowo lost himself so much there was some snot leaking. Common is doing fine.

The “Southern Hospitality” rapper is vaguely at the same situation as Common: bad album sales but a versatile hustle. Ludaverse isn’t going to do much damage on the charts even though this has been in the making for five years. But it’s OK. The Fast & Furious franchise still exists and it will surely rake in big bucks, which means more money in the bank for Ludacris.

Queen Latifah created a blueprint for women in hip-hop while outlasting the men. She currently stands as one of the Native Tongues Posse’s most visible members next to Q-Tip. The “Ladies First” creator also survived personal trauma, including the death of her brother in a motorcycle accident and drug abuse. Her talk show may have gotten canceled, but after officiating 33 weddings during Macklemore’s performance of “Same Love” at the 2014 Grammys (in an unbelievably corny sequence, but at least she did the honors), the sky’s the limit for the Queen.

It’s crazy to think this now, especially after the greatness of Clipse, but there was a point in time when people genuinely didn’t think King Push was going to make it as a solo artist. He had some of the worst songs on his first solo mixtape, Fear of God. Plus, he was on the same label as Kanye West, a diva who easily overshadowed many of his own G.O.O.D. Music signees (CyHi Da Prynce should’ve gotten more shine). But “Numbers on the Boards” and My Name Is My Name were very good. Faith was restored and Pusha T, at the archaic rapping age of 37, still has an anticipated album on the way.

Bishop Nehru is luckier than you for a very basic, yet frustrating reason. We’ve been waiting over 10 years for that follow-up to Madvillainy. Bishop is 18 years old and got to record a whole project, NehruvianDOOM, with MF Doom before that drops -- if ever. Granted, the kid is talented. But come on, man.

Unlike most on the list, Azealia Banks could not stop shooting herself in the foot once she started climbing the ladder of success. It was as if it was her mission to undo all of the hype “212” brought in 2011. The following three years brought almost nothing other than Twitter beefing, label bickering and endless album delays. Banks finally split with XL Recordings before the strangest thing happened: The album we waited three years for actually was pretty good. Broke With Expensive Taste was a 2014 highlight, and although Banks is still as in your face as she was before, at least we knew she's capable of creating good art.

This one is arguably the most miraculous of the 15. Charles Hamilton was supposed to be a star, but the poor man just could not keep it together. He went from prodigy to punchline with bouts of erratic behavior, incarceration and that infamous video of him getting punched by his then-girlfriend. Naming the deceased J. Dilla as an executive producer of one of his projects didn’t help him out either. Hamilton went from hyped to homeless in a short period of time.

But now he's is back. The 27-year-old got much-needed medical help for his bipolar condition and signed a deal with Republic Records in February. He’ll appear on the season finale of Empire to perform “NY Raining” with Rita Ora. It’s the start of a hopeful comeback story.

People forget that hip-hop’s OG could’ve still been in jail right now. In 1993, Snoop Dogg was on trial for murder in connection with the death of gang member Phillip Woldermarian, who was shot by his bodyguard McKinley Lee. Both were acquitted in 1996, and Snoop was free to continue making hits. He did just that; Snoop survived the East vs. West Coast rivalry and being on Death Row Records to create massive hits spanning three decades.

Experiencing your new single with Lady Gaga fail and getting dropped by Interscope is no way to start your career. That’s what happened to Wale, even after the success of The Mixtape About Nothing. Rick Ross, of all people, became his savior by signing him to MMG. Wale’s first single for the label, “Lotus Flower Bomb,” featuring a Miguel performance that arguably carried that song, became a hit. Four years later, Wale still has hype surrounding the upcoming The Album About Nothing.

At first glance, Action Bronson is the vary thing that Ghostface Killah warned against in his “Shark N----s” bit. His voice and non-sequitur style was just too similar. That misnomer of being a duplicate could cripple a career, but Bronson was too hilarious and had much too big of a personality for that. He proved that on each mixtape, and he’s now at the cusp of being a legitimate superstar with the release of his forthcoming LP, Mr. Wonderful.

It appears that you already have an account created within our VIP network of sites on . While the hook maybe the same, compositionally, both tunes feature different melodies.

The Just Brittany Twitter fan page posted a tweet addressing the alleged jacking of the song and then deleted it. When the news first broke, the concertgoer reportedly threw a beer bottle at the “Believe Me” rhymer, which caused security to rush him in the crowd and give him a beatdown. Now the assault victim’s 911 call after the incident has been released.

Apparently Tunechi was three hours late to the gig and the man who got punched was upset, which caused him to hold up a phone banner that said “F— Weezy.” After the assault, the man called 911, a call that was obtained by TMZ.

“I’d like to file a police report,” said the alleged victim. “I was assaulted. This happened about 10 minutes ago. I don’t know exactly who I was assaulted by. I was inside club Revolution in downtown Fort Lauderdale.”

From there, he gives details about the incident and informs the dispatcher he wants to file a report in case he has to pay for medical treatment. “I was standing in the crowd trying to enjoy myself, and next thing I know I’m on my ass on the floor and being carried out by the bouncers, and told that I did something wrong when I didn’t,” he explained.

The gentleman also states that his call isn’t meant to get his attacker arrested. “I’m not calling to get somebody else in trouble here,” said the Florida man. “I’m calling to cover my ass in case I wake up tomorrow with a concussion, and there’s expenses that I need to incur. There needs to be a police report filed.”

There’s no word if the the unidentified man already filed a lawsuit but it won’t be surprising if he does. There’s also a chance that Wayne could settle outside of court and cut the guy a check. Either way, it doesn’t look like we’ve heard the end of this.

See Lil Wayne’s Love Life Explored Through His History With 11 Women

View the original article here

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07280592865471280467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3002408074622458530.post-69140443538082333302015-04-06T15:02:00.000-04:002015-04-06T15:02:00.248-04:00Ra Diggs Receives 12 Life Sentences for Three Murders, Drug Trafficking
Contact Us
YouTube
Brooklyn, N.Y.-bred rapper Ra Diggs will spend the rest of his life in prison after a judge sentenced him to 12 life terms plus an additional 105 years on Thursday (April 2) for his role in three murders, drug trafficking and racketeering.

Judge Nicholas G. Garaufis sentenced the 33-year-old rhymer, born Ronald Herron, for killing three people and his involvement in the Murderous Mad Dawgs, a division of the Bloods gang, The New York TImes reports. Before he was sentenced, Herron accused the prosecution of building a case against him because the guilty cloak was thrown around him from the start.

“You guys sit here and continue to paint this picture that I’m the devil incarnate, the scourge of righteousness — it’s all crap,” Herron said. “Even the most dim prosecutor could have secured a conviction under this atmosphere of guilt they built. They did all but point a big, red arrow of guilty up on that projection screen.”

Herron has been jailed on federal drug charges since October 2010, and was initially charged in 2001, for the murder of Frederick Brooks that same year. However, Herron beat the Supreme Court case against him when two key witnesses refused to testify due to alleged threats they received from Herron’s associates. He was also charged in the murders of Richard Russo in 2008, and Victor Zapata in 2009.

The atmosphere in the courtroom yesterday was similar to a storm brewing, with Herron’s supporters shouting out at the judge when he threw a quip at lawyer Kelley Sharkey for requesting her defendant be housed in a facility where his 5-year-old daughter would be able to visit him. Judge Garaufis asked if there was a facility where Mr. Zapata, one of the murder victims, could also receive visits from his family. “It’s a sham!” yelled Shanduke McPhatter, a friend of Herron.

Leading a criminal organization, committing violent robbery and murder were the focal points of the discussion in the courtroom not only during his sentencing but throughout his various court proceedings over the last five years. The lyrics used by Herron, a member of the Murda Team with fellow Brooklyn MC Uncle Murda, were also used to build a case against him during his trial.

“No father figure / Raised by older cousins, help me serve n—-s / And help me burn n—-s / They gave me the hammers / That contributed to the death toll and the bammas,” he rapped in a song called ‘Eulogy.’ “Downtown Brooklyn, I’m a stop with all that / Too much information would make me my own rat / But I’m talking about facts, they lyin’ in they raps.”

Judge Garaufis believes the rhymer holds no deep regret for his actions. “You have shown a complete lack of remorse for your abhorrent conduct,” he stated. “Even today, in this courtroom, you give answers that show you are clueless about the misery you have inflicted on other people and you are reconstructing through some fantastic thoughts what has happened in this case.”

Despite his sentencing, Herron still maintains his innocence.
10 Most Shocking Arrests in Hip-Hop

It appears that you already have an account created within our VIP network of sites on . He turns 32 years old today (April 2) after over 10 years in the game.

Yung Joc may not have a great album to his name, but he put his imprint on the rap game with solid singles in the mid 2000s. His first, “It’s Goin’ Down,” infected many playlists with its playful but tense hook. The track rode off the instantaneous chanting of club patrons to peak at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. The rapper followed that song up with the cocksure sing-a-long of “I Know You See It.” It didn’t reach the Top 10, but it solidified Yung Joc as the dude who provided the perfect soundtrack for a turnt up night out.

The rhymer also serves as a welcomed featured artist. Maybe Danity Kane’s “Show Stopper” would’ve worked without Joc, but the Atlanta rhymer did add a weightiness to prevent the song from floating away with its’ pop bliss. Of course, there was also ”Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’),” a T-Pain song so big that you can even argue that Joc should also be partially blamed for Auto-Tune’s prevalence.

Yung Joc’s hit train may derailed for a few years, but with a new album in the works, that could change.

Watch Yung Joc’s “It’s Goin’ Down” Video
See 20 Words That Mean Something Completely Different in Hip-Hop

View the original article here

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07280592865471280467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3002408074622458530.post-66918759131649087782015-04-06T12:49:00.000-04:002015-04-06T12:49:00.104-04:00Pharrell Collaborating With Missy Elliott on New Album: 'I'm So Proud of Her' [VIDEO]
Kevin Winter, Getty Images
Pharrell is on a mission to revive collaborations of the ‘90’s and we couldn’t be happier. And even if you’re one of the fortunate ones, you can’t keep spitting rhymes forever. This is why you’ll find many of your favorite MCs stepping into other roles. As you’d guess from the headline, we’re talking about movies.

You’ll have your occasional missteps, like Nas in Belly and LL Cool J in Deep Blue Sea. Some succeed, however, and one of the biggest from a commercial standpoint is Ludacris. He isn’t the biggest figure in the Fast & Furious series (hence his exclusion from this list), but he is a notable one in the franchise that’s grossed over $2 billion worldwide. Furious 7 is also making some noise; it’s already making a killing by earning $15.8 million on its Thursday opening.

There are many rappers-turned-actors who paved the way for Ludacris to be a part of such a film project, and not just Ja Rule, who decided to drop out of the series. Rappers didn’t just prove that starring in a film could be commercially viable. Some of these cats really can act. Boyz N The Hood doesn’t hit as hard as it did if Ice Cube didn’t inspire sympathy for his doomed character. Juice is just a paranoia flick if Tupac Shakur doesn’t add that sense of urgency to his appearance.

There are plenty of hip-hop alumni to choose from when picking out the 10 Best Movie Roles Played by Rappers. Take a look at the best in their class below.

Kid 'n Play is on this list because they managed to perfect the scene below before rappers decided doing choreography wasn't cool anymore. That and how great of a movie House Party is makes Christopher "Kid" Reid and Christopher "Play" Martin the perfect additions here.

One of hip-hop's most charismatic MCs turned into something despicable in Paid in Full, a new school classic hood film set in Harlem, N.Y. Not only does Cam'ron betray his crew to disastrous results, but he also ends up snitching. Yes, it's possible not even Killa Cam would like Rick if he met him in person. It's a shame we don't get more of him and Wood Harris (known as Avon Barksdale to many) on screen together more. Still, the borderline hilarious flippancy of Cam'ron in the scene below stands as one of his finest moments.

There's only two real highlights in Belly: the opening sequence and DMX's performance. In the middle of Nas' staid presence and slack plot, the Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood creator delivered a performance that was easily the film's most kinetic. You missed him every time he left the screen. What made DMX scarier is how the thought passes that he could just be playing himself rather than a robber.

"That's what we need to do: rob a bank," says Queen Latifah's character in Set It Off, which sets off a spiral of bank robberies, murder and eventually the crew's demise. It's a means to get out of a system that's failed her and her friends, but Set It Off doesn't portray them as victims. They have motivations, which make their ends more heartbreaking. Kudos to Latifah for making, "You got those Queen Latifah Set It Off braids," a thing close to 20 years after we first set eyes on her 'do.

Many rappers dip their toes outside of the game to extend their brand or simply to say, "I'm more than a rapper." Andre 3000 puts his best foot forward when he accepted the role of the late Jimi Hendrix in All Is By My Side. To prepare for the effort, Three Stacks played a left-handed guitar for six hours a day, studied Hendrix interviews and lost 20 pounds to match Hendrix's skinny frame. Can't say the preparation was for naught.

Will Smith started out as a rapper before moving on to his breakout role in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. So this gives us a legit chance to shout out Men in Black. You could make the argument for a few of Smith's performances (Bad Boys, The Pursuit of Happyness, Hitch), but this one is worth a mention because of how he's both the audience's voice in that insane world and an embodiment of cool. Almost 20 years later, "You know the difference between you and me? I make this look good," is still a great line.

One of hip-hop's greatest ironies is how the man who made a song called "Cop Killer" is somehow at his creative best as a cop. Before his Law & Order: SVU gig, Ice-T was an undercover police officer in the imaginative but poignantly real New Jack City (the Cash Money Brothers taking over an entire apartment complex without a single arrest is a stretch). There's a humanity that Ice-T injects into his chaotic good that makes his character memorable, especially in that final showdown.

While Ricky is the biggest tragedy in Boyz N The Hood, Doughboy's fate is still draining. Ice Cube, who plays him with his characteristic, convincing grimace, summarizes this with his pointed question toward the end of the movie: "Either they don't know, don't show, or don't care about what's going on in the hood." The rapper's character is resigned to a fate that's never felt like it's fully been his, and his arc and the futility of it makes this realization more painful.

In playing what's essentially a loose version of himself, Eminem created the prototypical hip-hop underdog story in his turn as B-Rabbit. His acting in 8 Mile isn't at all that stiff because, you know, Slim Shady is essentially playing himself. Plus, the movie-ending cipher alone earns arguably one of the G.O.A.T a spot on this list.

While you can make an argument for some of his other roles, Tupac Shakur's turn in Juice stands out because of the way it allows him to loosen the restraints of his more aggressive, id-driven side. He's essentially the film's lone source of danger, but what makes it work is how he's a convincing one. Shakur sells that gradual loss of humanity through the Juice, especially in that unintentionally comedic elevator scene. What sets this performance away from the others isn't the role itself, but how it gets to the point where it seems like Shakur is the only person who could ever play the role of Bishop.

It appears that you already have an account created within our VIP network of sites on . However, at a recent show in Tallahassee, Fla., rapper Plies was body slammed by a fan whom he invited up onstage and it was all caught on video.

In the clip, a fan confronts the Florida rhymer and gets way too close to his face. When Plies warns the concertgoer that he’s violating his personal space, the man grabs the rapper and suplexes him into the crowd.

From there, both security guards and concertgoers pummel the fan into an oblivion. Meanwhile, Plies returns to the stage to perform his song while the melee continues in the crowd.

We are surprised that Plies’ security team didn’t step in sooner as they should never allow a concertgoer to get touchy-feely with an artist.

Miraculously, the young man did manage to leave the show on his own but he suffered some major injuries. In an Instagram video, the rap fan, who clearly has a busted lip, a black eye and several cuts all over his face, explains why he stepped to Plies.

“I f— with you bruh, that n—- is one of my top five artists,” he said. “That n—- started talking that bulls—. So I dropped his ass like any real n—- would do.”

Again, for the umpteenth time, it’s very dangerous for a fan to jump onstage and confront a rapper while they are performing. However, in this case, it’s clear that Plies needs to hire better security. Maybe the “Bust It Baby” rapper should talk to RiFF RAFF’s one-man security team.

10 Rappers & Singers Promoting Unexpected Products

View the original article here

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07280592865471280467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3002408074622458530.post-36675779868278793642015-04-06T08:33:00.000-04:002015-04-06T08:33:00.275-04:00Kendrick Lamar Comes Straight Outta Compton in 'King Kunta' Video
Contact Us
By Preezy April 2, 2015 10:21 AM
Kendrick Lamar is on a heck of a roll. With his critically acclaimed sophomore effort, To Pimp a Butterfly, still buzzing, K. Clad in a varsity jacket, white tee, blue jeans and an L.A. The rap trio’s member Migos is soaring high today (April 2) on his 24th birthday.

Like ILOVEMAKONNEN and the Weeknd, Migos benefited heavily from the Drake co-sign. Would “Versace” have blown up if it didn’t pass Drake’s ears? We will never know, but regardless, we’re living in a post-”Versace” society. Migos’ breakout single wasn’t notable only because of its technically aerobatic ode to materialistic indulgence. There were so many imitators. And many freestyles. So, so many freestyles.

Despite the praise, Migos still had mixed feelings because of Drake’s attachment to “Versace.” “It was a gift and a curse,” said Quality Control Music co-founder Pierre “Pee” Thomas in their FADER cover story. ”Sometimes I really wish he had never jumped on it — it was gonna blow without him.”

But the crew are fully developed enough as personalities to stand on their own. A penchant for making hits helped out, too. Migos followed up “Versace” with the mixtape, No Label 2, which spawned the absurd, but catchy hit, “Fight Night.”

Although it doesn’t look like Migos will go their separate ways anytime soon (they’re relatives, after all), it’s Quavo whose broken out as the fan favorite for many. The Migos flow is often traced back to him. He’s also the member who got robbed of his chain by Chief Keef’s GBE crew, prompting him to release the chest-bumping diss track “Tha Truth” (“Put ‘em on the menu, put ‘em on the plate, ’cause Quavo wanna make an order”). It’s all water under the bridge now, and at 24, Quavo has a whole career and a debut album ahead of him.

Watch Migos’ “Versace” Video
20 Words That Mean Something Completely Different in Hip-Hop

It appears that you already have an account created within our VIP network of sites on . All is well.”

Lamar’s fans had the chance to find out if he really could outdo good kid, m.A.A.d city by buying the album on iTunes. The surprise release comes only a few days after his funkadelic track “King Kunta” leaked online. The internet has a sneaky way of getting a hold of albums before their scheduled release date so that could be why “The Blacker the Berry” rhymer and his team chose to drop the album two weeks ahead of time. But it looks like even the TDE camp had little knowledge that the project was arriving ahead of their planned debut.

The CEO of Top Dawg Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith expressed his frustration with Interscope Records, Kendrick’s label, which he blames for the leak. “I WOULD LIKE 2 PERSONALLY THANK @Interscope FOR F—ING UP OUR RELEASE… SOMEBODY GOTS 2 PAY 4 THIS MISTAKE !!!! #TOP,” he wrote.

From the sounds of K.Dot’s first singles, including the Grammy Award-winning “i,” the album has a conscious thread, tackling social issues from racism to sexism and poverty. Coming out of the Bronx, N.Y. in the late ’90s, the MC was one of the most promising artists in the game during one of the most fruitful eras for the genre.

Pun quickly became a star with his debut album, Capital Punishment, in 1998, which earned him a platinum plaque — making him the first Latin rapper to achieve that feat. Known for his lyrical wizardry, superb breath control and his sense of humor, the massive MC lived up to his name by punishing foes whenever placed behind a mic. By the end of 1998, the man born Christopher Rios was a certified star and had managed to put his name in the conversation of being the best in the game.

But Big Pun would never be able to reach his full potential. He died in early 2000 due to complications that stemmed from his excessive weight, which the rapper had been working towards cutting down before his untimely death. While the rap community mourned, Loud Records decided to salvage his last recordings for Endangered Species, an album he had been in the process of recording.

His second LP was ultimately titled Yeeeah Baby and was released on April 4, 2000, just months after Pun’s death. Executive produced by Fat Joe, the project includes features from Pun’s Terror Squad brethren, as well as Donell Jones, M.O.P., Drag-On and Remy Martin, now known as Remy Ma.

While far from the masterpiece that was Capital Punishment, Yeeeah Baby was welcomed by fans and features classic singles, as well as a few noteworthy album cuts that still receive burn until this day. Being that today is the 15th anniversary since its release, we share some highlights from the record. Check out Five Best Songs From Big Pun’s Yeeeah Baby Album below.

Big Pun gets lyrically grisly on "Leatherface." Produced by the Infinite Arkatechz, the record contains elements of the Rocky II theme, as well as sound bites from the infamous chainsaw scene in Scarface and is a perfect soundbed for Pun to get busy on. "It's not a game, it's war, plain and raw / Blood stain the wall when I bring the chain with the saw / Bring the pain to ya door like death was knocking / Unless you got my ends, I'ma make you twins with the headless horseman," he rhymes. The Bronx bomber comes out of the gate swinging on this revved-up cut.

The '90s were the golden era of the female rapper. You weren't truly doing it big as an MC until you had a femme fatale on your team and Big Pun found his in fellow Bronx native, Remy Ma, previously known as Remy Martin. Far from your manufactured rap chick, Remy was as deadly as most men behind the mic and proved it on this standout selection. "I inhale the deepest, cock back, and bust rhymes at ya speakers / I'm trouble, I shoot the air bubble in ya sneakers / The type to cop a Range along wit all the features / And take the back streets to avoid the leeches," she spits. Remy attacks the beat like a pitbull let off the chain in the presence of a steak. Stacking up quotables with ease and dropping some of the most scathing bars you've ever heard a female spit, she goes bonkers on "Ms. Martin" and provides a solid example as to why Pun took her under his wing.

One of the best aspects of Big Pun's artistry was his underrated sense of humor, which he displays on the triumphant "Laughing at You." Produced by O.Gee, the track is powered by ample amounts of bass and thumping drum kicks and serves as one of the more refined beats on the album. Reminiscing on his days as the underdog and celebrating his rise to prominence on the hook, he taunts his enemies. "I'm laughing at you, I'm laughing at you now / You told me I was ugly, I was scared to crack a smile," he rhymes. Pun one-ups his naysayers and detractors in humorous fashion and creates one of the more underrated cuts in his catalog.

The Young Lord-produced "It's So Hard" is an example of a great song being bittersweet, considering that it's nearly a de facto memorial song in the late rapper's memory. Featuring R&B singer Donell Jones, the track is as lighthearted an offering as you'll ever hear from Big Pun and stands as a testament of everything that the public loved about him and his personality. From the catchy lyrics to his timeless adlibs, "It's So Hard" is a sure shot classic and one of the more memorable selections from that era of hip-hop.

Aside from being one of the greatest lyricists in the history of rap, Big Pun was also a hero to the Latin community and the first rapper of Hispanic descent to go platinum. So it was only right that Pun showed some love to his roots with the Yeeeah Baby track, "100%." Produced by Sean C, the beat incorporates many of the sounds that are prevalent in merengue, while the thumping drums give it a boom-bap feel without sacrificing authenticity. Featuring Tony Sunshine, who gives an enthralling performance on the hook and bridge, "100%" captures Pun as prideful as ever in his heritage and kicking his flows in Spanglish while keeping it palatable enough for anybody to enjoy. A mainstay on playlists in various barrios, this track is nothing short of a classic and is sure to get ladies' hips moving and fellas' feet shuffling.

It appears that you already have an account created within our VIP network of sites on . Cole‘s rise to prominence has been a testament for staying the course and servicing his fans. Those same supporters have rewarded Cole by pitching in to make sure his 2014 Forest Hills Drive album received the support it deserved, which has resulted in over one million units sold. The rapper earns the first platinum LP in his career.

Released in December, the campaign for 2014 Forest Hills Drive was unique in many ways. The project didn’t have any guest features, making it the first album in over 25 years to achieve platinum status with that distinction, plus Cole used grassroots tactics to engage his fans by inviting them to his childhood home to hear the effort, among other personal touches that are rarely important to artists of J. Cole’s caliber.

Aside from this major milestone in his career, the North Carolina native has also signed on as one of the owners of Jay Z’s much talked about new streaming service, TIDAL. This serves as evidence that Cole may have plans of following his Roc Nation mentor and bolster his business portfolio. While we don’t know what the future holds for Jermaine as far as side ventures, what we can tell you is that he is one of the brightest and promising stars in music today. In the words of the late great Big L, he’s “platinum plus.”
Next: Read Our Review of J. Brown, Getty Images
Another seven days have come and gone and that means it’s time for another edition of Songs of the Week. The competition seems to get stiffer and stiffer the further we get into the year and after the fresh crop of music that was produced this week, things are only getting better.

Last week’s picks featured selections from the likes of Earl Sweatshirt, Consequence and Wale, which was a dope lineup in its own right. This round-up of heat-seekers is certainly no slouch and includes a range of sounds, styles and moods. We present our choices for Songs of the Week featuring music from Curren$y with a little help from Wiz Khalifa, Janelle Monae and her Wondaland crew and Machine Gun Kelly along with a special lady.

Nearly six years ago, internet favorites and stoner brothers Wiz Khalifa and Curren$y linked up to release the smoked-out mixtape, How Fly, and sent fans into a frenzy. After much clamoring for a follow-up tape from the two to no avail, Wiz and Spitta decided to finally give the people what they want, announcing their upcoming mixtape, 2009, and releasing the hazy cut, "Uber Driver." The rappers sound as if they never skipped a beat, displaying their undeniable chemistry and knack for crafting the perfect bangers to light up to -- if that's your thing, of course. And by the sounds of this selection, we should be in for a big treat when this project finally touches down.

Janelle Monae hits our Songs of the Week list for the first time, taking the No. 2 spot with her new single, "Yoga." The second release from her upcoming Wondaland compilation, the track sees the eclectic singer keeping it a little more palatable this time around and delivering a straight-forward club-ready tune. Featuring Brooklyn MC Jidenna, "Yoga" definitely stands out this week among the endless pile of releases. You'll be giving this effort more than a single listen.

Machine Gun Kelly may be known more for his wild party boy offerings rather than his social commentary, but his latest single, "A Little More," proves that the rapper has more to talk about than just brews and women. Featuring vocalist Victoria Monet, MGK takes a look at the societal ills of today and concludes that the answer to casting them away might be as simple as "having a little more love" for one another. With that said, the song is also well-composed, sonically superb and when you add that with MGK's focused lyrics, the result is our pick for Song of the Week.

It appears that you already have an account created within our VIP network of sites on . Over the weekend, the Baton Rouge rhymer shocked his fans once again with a photo of his deceased grandmother.

The “I Don’t Get Tired” rapper wanted to share with his followers the woman that he affectionately calls his mama. However, the picture left some of his readers aghast, including us.

In the photo, Gates’ hand is covering the woman’s mouth. “Viewing the body of the woman I called my mama before my show, I’m a miss you I love you forever R.I.P.,” he wrote.

Now without any explanation, the photo can be perceived as ghoulish. Some of his fans even accused Gates of trying to show off his huge watch, while others felt that it was inappropriate to show his deceased grandmother on the ‘Gram. One person wrote, “This isn’t appropriate for Instagram. Visiting her body is personal and should be private, not used to get attention. RIP.”

However, Gates posted a 15-second video explaining why he was covering his grandmother’s mouth. Apparently, the rapper was hiding her broken jaw, which she suffered when they put her in a body bag.

Still, the photo is a little jarring. We haven’t seen a rapper post a selfie of a dead family member on Instagram before. Nevertheless, we send our heartfelt condolences to Gates and his family.

Do you think Kevin Gates posting a photo of his deceased grandmother on Instagram is inappropriate?
