Now that you have your own blog, what's next? Blog posting or simply blogging.

Login to your Blogger account then from your selected Blog click NEW POST which will direct your to the WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) editor.

Title: - is the header for your blog post.

WYSIWYG editor - is where you are going to write your first post.

From left to right, the tool icons are represented as:

Undo
Redo
Font
Font Size
Bold
Italics
Underline
Strikethrough
Font Color
Text Background Color
Add or Remove Link
Insert Image
Insert A video
Insert Jump Break
Alignment
Numbered List
Bullet List
Quote
Remove Formatting
Check Spelling
Define/Translate
Transliterate

If you've ever used MS Word or any Word processing program before, then these icons and the should be familiar with you.

Obviously, I can't tell you what to write but here are a couple of tips to help you in your blog posting/writing.

1. Make your opinion known
2. Link like crazy
3. Write less
4. 250 Words is enough
5. Make Headlines snappy
6. Write with passion
7. Include Bullet point lists
8. Edit your post
9. Make your posts easy to scan
10. Be consistent with your style
11. Litter the post with keywords
12. Add photographs

How To Add The Post Title After Read More (Jump Break)

Due to insistence by bloggers, Google finally added the jump break or "Read More" feature for blogger by default.

To customize the jump break, login to your Blogger account, select your blog and click Design. On the Blog Posts Section on Page Elements, click Edit. You can change "Read more" to "Read on" or "Continue Reading" or whatever word you find appropriate. Click Save.

To further customize the jump break feature click Edit HTML.

Check Expand Widget Templates then find the following code:

Replace it with

If you're having a hard time finding or can't find the first code given above, the second thing to for is

Place the second code below it.

What this code does is to add the title after "Read More of" (ex. Read More of How To Add The Title After Read More (Jump Break)).

To activate the feature, place the cursor after a couple of sentences then click on jump break icon.

A common problem with customized templates are missing comment boxes. The custom template for this blog also did not have the embedded comment box probably because some of code was old. But as you can see below, the comment box is there. Here's how to restore or add the missing comment box.

Login to you Blogger account and click Design on your selected blog. Click Edit HTML then check Expand Widget Templates.

Look for this bit of code:

Replace it with this:

This should restore the missing embedded comment box on your customized template.

Blogger default templates are good enough for starter templates but at times they lack a certain type of spunk. This is where customized blogger templates come in.

There are a lot of sites that feature customized blogger templates for free. A good place to start would be btemplates.com or eblogtemplates.com (free registration required) where I got the design templates for TechEncounter and facebookOL. You can also do a Google search for most beautiful blogger templates and get more than a million results for customized blogger templates.

The sites have previews and demos of the templates so you have an idea which template to download. Download and extract the customized template files in an easy-to-find location.

To install a Blogger customized template, login to Blogger and click Design on the blog you want to install your customized template on.

On the Design page, click Edit HTML.

Click on Download Full Template first to save your existing template just in case you want to revert to it.

After saving your original template, click on Browse... Look for the customized template file which is usually in xml format (template.xml). Click Open then Upload. Don't forget to SAVE TEMPLATE.

Click Preview or View Blog to check out the new look of your blog. If all looks good then enjoy your new blog look, if not yet can revert to your old template or try out another customized template.

Login to your Blogger account then from your selected blog click Settings.

If you browse through the settings, they are self-explanatory and can be left at default, but I do recommend configuring the Comments section. For first time blogs and bloggers, comments are hard to come by so we have to make it easier for would-be visitors to comment. When your blog catches on then you can go back and change the comments settings as you see fit.

Comments:

Who Can Comment?: Select "Anyone"
Comment Form Placement: Select "Embedded below post" for easy access and visibility.
Commend moderation: Select "Never"
Show word verification for comments? Select "No"
SAVE SETTINGS

After you're satisfied with settings of your blog, let's spice up the look of your blog a bit.

Design
This where you are going to setup your blog Template. This is the overall look of what visitors are going to see when they visit your blog.

Template Designer - introduced this year to make it easier for bloggers to design and re-design blog templates. The Template Designer currently has 19 templates categorized into Simple, Picture Window, Awesome Inc., and Watermark. Click HERE for a demo of a blog designed using the Template Designer.

Background - Change background colors and pictures. Currently, all pictures are preset but hopefully Google will be linient enough in the future to have customized pictures as template backgrounds.

Layout - Adjust the layout of how your blog will look from single to multi column layouts.

Advanced - Change Font types, colors, backgrounds, and if you know CSS programming, you can post the code here.

Preview Window - Below the Template Designer settigns is the preview window where you can see what changes are going on as you make changes to the design of your template. Play around with the look and design of your blog until you're satisfied. Don't forget to click APPLY TO BLOG.

How To Create Your Blog On Blogger (Blogspot)

1. Sign up for Google Services

GMail - is a free Email service provided for by Google. If you don't have a GMail account yet, click HERE to sign up.

Since Blogger is provide for by Google, it would be most advisable to use GMail to create your blog on Blogger plus for the other Google services I will be pointing out as we go along on this guide.

2. Create your blog on Blogger (Blogspot)

Blogger (Blogspot) - is a blogging platform freely provided for by Google.

If you have your GMail account ready, click HERE to login to Blogger. After putting in you GMail "Username" and "Password" click "Sign In" to proceed creating your blog.

Step 1: Sign up for Blogger

Display name: This will be name displayed as the author of the blog post. You can opt for your first, full, or nickname. This can be changed and added to later on in the Blogger Dashboard.

Check the "Email Notifications" and "Acceptance of Terms" then press "Continue"

Step 2: Name your blog

Blog title: You can put anything you want here but consider that the blog title or blog header will be the first and most important thing your website viewer will see. As the old adage goes, "First impressions last." Go for a blog header that goes with the look and feel of your blog and one that puts trust in your blog.

Blog address (URL): The blog address or url is what people will type into their Web browsers in order to reach your website. It is essential to create a memorable URL (the tips are almost the same as with your blog title) that you are going to use as your brand.

Tip: Maybe you found the perfect URL for your blog only to find out that the blog address is not available, don't be discouraged. You may still get to have it by adding "the" to your wanted URL. For example you may have wanted techencounter.blogspot.com but is already taken you may try thetechencounter.blogspot.com. By adding "the" to techencounter, you got your preferred URL.

Choose a starter template: These are the default templates provided by blogger. Select from one of the templates (which can be edited later) then click CONTINUE.

Step 3: Verify your identity.

Choose from either a Text Message or a Voice Call. Follow the instructions provided for the verification of your Blogger account and your done. Congratulations! You've just created your first blog on Blogger. Start writing your first blog post or tweak the settings of your blog. Welcome Blogger!
