In order to make the most of email marketing, there are some specific stars that must be aligned for the business or individual using it. Among those stars is a sign-up process that is designed to convert. This is a critical component because if people are not subscribing, then you have no ammunition to work with, which might tempt you to purchase a list, and that’s one of the worst ideas you can buy into.

If you are going to succeed as an email marketer, you need a sign-up process that compels prospective subscribers to take that next important step — there is no way around it. On the bright side, there are quite a few things you can do to optimize this process and in turn, dramatically improve your subscription rates.

Put It On Display

Very few people will subscribe to your list if they have a hard time getting to the process that allows them to join. Do both parties a favor by making your sign-up form easy to find. If you’re trying to convert subscriptions on a website, that place will always be on your web page, above the fold. When I say above the fold, I mean near the top where it can easily be seen without the visitor having to scroll the page. It also wouldn’t hurt to have your sign-up form on every single page. When it comes to conversions, visibility is crucial.

Don’t Ask for the World

People are interacting deeply with the web, but when it comes to handing out their personal details, some are still very reluctant. For this reason, the most effective sign-up process is usually the simple one that requests as little information as possible. All you really need to add a new subscriber to your mailing list is a name and email address, so get focus on getting that. Should you feel additional information is needed, try to obtain it later through a survey or profile they can use to add whatever details they feel comfortable sharing.

Offer Reassurance

Want to go that extra mile and really make the newbie comfortable parting with their information? Reassure them that their data is safe in your hands. Include a privacy policy that addresses concerns regarding what you will and will not be doing with their information. Mainly, people want to know that their contact information won’t end up on some list passed around the spam community, so be proactive and ease those fears right off the bat.

Answer the “Why?”

So you’ve got a great product your target audience must have in their lives. That’s fantastic, but is that product alone strong enough to convince people why they should subscribe to your list? If you’re not sure, then you should probably come up with a backup plan, one specifically focused on converting new subscriptions. Maybe you offer a free white paper. Maybe you offer a sample of that great product. The point is getting them on the list first, and worrying about selling later.

Let ‘Em Know What They Get

Someone who subscribes to a newsletter on freelance writing will probably be highly upset if they start receiving emails about buying server hardware from the marketer. Email marketing is about building relationships, and it all starts at the sign-up process. This is where you should inform the new subscriber on what to expect in terms of content, delivery platform, frequency, and so on. Be upfront about everything that needs to be known, and you’re on your way to building trust.

Experiment and Measure

What works for one email marketer may not work for the next, so when yo go to optimize your sign-up process, don’t hesitate to play around with a few different methods. Put the form in different spots on your pages and see how they perform. Throw in a couple of incentives and gauge the response. Test your sign-process to get a feel for what might be the most effective. Do this regularly, and you can discover what it takes to get good results on a consistent basis.

Wrapping Up

We hear it all the time: “the list is everything”. There is no disputing that, but without names, email addresses, and interest, there is no list. The efficiency of your sign-up process plays a huge role in determining the value of a list, or if there is a list at ll. Luckily, all it takes is a little fine tuning to take no subscribers to dozens of subscribers; dozens of subscribers to hundreds of subscribers; hundreds of subscribers to — you get the point.

Automation, tools and tech, rule social media markets. The game is “look what I can do faster, easier and cooler than you”. Some people make money on it, some get nothing at all. Let’s look inside some automation game play.

The battle of Automation

Comedian, Joe Rogan zapped Paperli out of his social media daily routine.

The Joe Rogan Daily just picks tweets from people I follow and makes a paper out of it.Unfortunately I follow a lot of nonsense.

— Joe Rogan (@joerogan) January 10, 2013

Blanket automation eventually hurts the content business in the long run.

Rogan’s Paperli had been feeding “drone content” to fans and followers for months before he found just how stupid an idea it was to have for a person in the business of quality content.

There is a benefit, right?

Sure. It all depends, though.

My blog, when active, got a bunch of paperli retweets. Good exposure, but nothing I really took advantage of.

But a business who had some real traffic goals could pimp a few Paperli publisher accounts by finding the share source and focus on that crowd … if it suits their market, of course.

Bloggers can dig out a fresh creative direction and uncover new places to post.

It can create new opportunities

Over at MarketingKnockout.com, we are seeing odd content get unlikely shares.

One from a hippie Paperli account, another from retirement strategies publisher, and so on and so forth.

These “random-house” publishers are not exactly our core audience. At the same time, it’s not like we can’t make a deal in those markets. We are heavy on profit, light on obsessive personal branding.

But what about publisher’s?

I think back to the Rogan Dilemma.

You really have to want to provide content for your fans and followers, else an automated strategy will run you into the ground.

If you’re short on time and attention, regularly creating quality content like a professional comedian, it wont work out.

If I were doing it …

I might grab an guy online to find out what Rogan fans like to check out and set that up on Paperli.

I might have him join Blog Success and commence Information Overlord to make his job a bit easy. Automation doesn’t have to be a complete content fail, but it can be. Do your content creation right, and you’ll survive the rise of the machines in 2013.

It is no secret that social media sites are becoming popular by the day; these platforms are being used for more than just meeting new people. Businesses around the globe are starting to utilize them as a way to increase their marketing efforts and help to get their brand noticed online. This is considered to be a tool that small businesses can use to increase their market reach and build a larger global market.

Twitter is without a doubt one of the most popular social media platforms available. People are given this powerful tool to voice their ideas and opinions and update their current activities, which is also a good way to introduce your small business’ products and services. One of the best ways to get noticed is to create an online trend, which refers to the ability for a user to make use of hashtags to get their business known.

Using the Hashtag

A hashtag is simply a word or phrase that has a “#” prefix at the front. For e.g. #microsoft or #apple. Primarily, the main purpose of using a hashtag is to make sure that a conversation around a specific topic or word can easily be tracked. Twitter users can easily use this marketing tool to track the conversations about their business and get a good understanding of their popularity online. You can use this to increase awareness of your small business online.

One of the best ways to create a buzz around your business with the use of hashtags is to promote your business’ products or specials. The global reach that Twitter offers its users allow you to reach a wider audience and thereby increasing your exposure. Another benefit of using hashtags is the ability to be part of a current trending topic that your small business may be related to. By introducing your business to the trend, it will allow people to associate your brand and create awareness.

Always remember to use the correct hashtag. Topical tags are usually the best way to go about the process, and this means that it has this bigger reach in the overall market. Use these tags as part of your tweet, rather than just using them separately. It will be easier for readers to become informed about what your business is or what you are trying to say when they can read it in context as a complete tweet.

Finally, remember to track the hashtag’s progress to see if it’s effective for your marketing goals. There are various tools that can help you do this online, but Twitter can also provide you with this information. It’s a great way of measuring your reach on this social media platform and you can easily keep an eye on conversations regarding your product, service, or brand.

Benefits of Using Hashtags for Business

The most important benefit of using hashtags is to create awareness for your brand. By using this tool you can make it easy for people to re-use it and mention your brand or company in their own conversations and tweets online.

You can keep track of your reputation. Hashtags make it easy for you to monitor what people are saying when they talk about you or your brand. If there are any negative statements or customers who are unhappy with a product or service, you will be able to pick it up and put in some effort to rectify the issue or put the customer at ease.

Hashtags allow you to measure your reach. You can keep an eye on all the conversations around your chosen keywords or topics and find out where your business is being mentioned, by who, and how often. This is a good indication of how far your business’ reach is and what your target market looks like. Businesses are increasingly seeing the benefit in this.

Make your tweets easier to find. Hashtags allow you to easily find previous tweets and it also categorises your tweets for your followers to find. Leads, customers, and prospects can easily join in the conversation by using your hashtags in their own discussions.

When you have a new product or service available you can easily create new hashtags so that your followers and customers will be able to easily and effortlessly identify them and be updated on new updates and developments within your business.

The more hashtags are being used on Twitter, the more it will encourage the use of better statistics, control, and a better understanding of this tool in general. People all over the world can benefit from hashtags and it should be a positive and useful experience for everyone – regardless whether you are using it for personal or business purposes. With social media being such a powerful online tool, this is becoming a very popular way of expanding your market reach, keeping an eye on conversations around your business, and allowing people to easily follow updates around your business.

So you really want to make money blogging?

Most people find it very difficult to succeed at affiliate marketing. When I started marketing on the internet, I didn’t have a product of my own. And I had no plans to create one.

I also discovered the easiest way to earn a living online – which is by promoting affiliate products that are helpful, hot and pay good commissions. It sounds simple at the surface, but the steps to make it real aren’t readily available on thousands of blogs.

In this post, I want to quickly help you identify what’s important for bloggers who desire to generate income promoting other people’s product. Listed below are 6 simple steps to get started:

1. Set up a professional blog

The first step is to set up a blog that can attract potential buyers easily. A professional blog usually starts with an “objective.” If you miss out on this step, every other activity would be in vain.

If you look around, 85% of bloggers who generate affiliate income through their blogs are well packaged – their blogs are catchy and speaks for professionalism.

Nothing can discourage real buyers, but your blog that looks crappy. Don’t even go for a free blogging platform – it’s a waste of time.

In other words, make sure you register your own domain name and get a web hosting account. Free blogger.com and wordpress.com can’t help you no matter how hard you work.

2. Write 10 evergreen content

Once your blog is ready, easy to navigate and attractive, the next step is to engage your target audience with quality blog posts.
However, you’ll have to conduct indepth research on your niche. This way your content can align with people’s needs and solve their problems.

I’d recommend that you begin with 10 evergreen content. By “evergreen” I’m talking about blog posts and video clips that can’t become irrelevant quickly.

Before potential buyers can feel comfortable buying from you, there must be benefit for them. And this 10 ever-valuable content will act as your pillar.

Don’t use any form of tricks or B.S. on your pillar content.

You should focus more on inbound marketing; where your blog content would eventually attract buyers without you running after them. In fact, that’s the real juice of blogging and affiliate marketing.

3. Narrow your niche

Whether you’re an affiliate marketer or internet marketer, you’ll need to narrow your niche. A lot of people make the mistake of targeting a very large audience.

It can be difficult to reach millions of people, especially when you’ve a tight marketing budget.

Here’s a typical example: Would you rather consult a Mechanic who’s a Car Specialist, or a Mechanic that also repairs Motorcycles, Lorries and other automobiles?

I’m sure you want an expert. If someone is an expert in Car Repairs then he must be really good. I’m sure he’d be better than a jack-of-all-trade Mechanic who has no specific specialty.

It’s the same thing with niche marketing. You must decide on a specific niche because that will be your hub. Affiliate marketing can be a lot easier if your niche is narrow, and very hot.

4. Search for affiliate offers

If you’ve read through to step 4, then I must commend you. At this point, you’ll need to search for affiliate offers.

It’s pretty straight forward because you’ve narrowed your niche. You could register with Clickbank, CJ, shareasale and several other third-party affiliate networks.

It’s important that you observe the Gravity of each affiliate product you select. If the gravity is below 50 on clickbank, please don’t waste your time on such an offer. Because there are few affiliate agents; the product isn’t converting into sales as well.

Keep searching for profitable product to monetize your blog. Focus on the niche you’re blogging on. It’d make a lot of sense if you stick to your passion – so you don’t burn out quickly.

5. Create a landing page

Creating a landing page can be easy if your blog is using wordpress CMS. There are various landing page generators & plugins you could use – the purpose is to separate this page from the main blog. It can boost your sales on the long-run.

Because with this unique page, you’ll be collecting email leads of potential buyers and blog readers. The tactic is to first send people through your optin-page. Then after converting them into customers, you will channel them back to your blog.

The sole purpose of a landing page is to build your email list. You’ve often heard that “the money is in the list.” That’s not totally true because you may have 10,000 subscribers and still be broke.

It’s the relationship you build with subscribers gradually that would result in high conversion rates. Keep reading…

6. Monetize your list

Monetizing a blog is quite different from monetizing a list. The big difference is this: people who read your blog aren’t so targeted to buy from you.

They’re still strangers. But your email subscribers have taken a bold step and joined your list. Indirectly, they’ve made known their needs and given you permissions to send them valuable, exclusive content and helpful products as well.

There is nothing wrong when you monetize your list members. Just be patient and build the friendship; relate with them personally. Then take it up from there.

Don’t be desperate to make money and run away. It doesn’t work like that with email marketing. As an affiliate, you’re the middle man between potential buyers and product owners.

Don’t take this privilege for granted. Share as much valuable information about the product you’re promoting.

Affiliate takeaway

This New Year, if you can challenge yourself to work hard and smart, you could start generating $1000+ from affiliate marketing, through a responsive email list.

I know it works because I’m currently using this exact tactic on my blog. I have a landing page, an email list, a hot affiliate product and a professional blog.
That’s what you should have as well. Take action today and see you at the top. Happy New Year to you!

There’s a big world out there (no, not online – the other one). If we’re spending all our time at a desk we’re missing out on the very experiences that can catapult our writing into new realms of wonderfulness. Experiences make us richer writers, and the best bloggers are looking for ways to get out there and bring the blogging with them. This article can help.

Are You Managing One Blog or Many?

Before looking for the right solutions, you have to carefully define the problems. Bloggers posting to multiple blogs have different options than those who only need to post to one.

If you’re a single blog person, the apps developed by your own blogging platform are likely to be your best bet. Look for WordPress, Blogger and Live Journal apps. Most of the mobile versions work very much like the desktop versions, Live Journal and Tumblr in particular.

Bloggers keeping up with many blogs on the go need more powerful apps, such as CellSpin. This free app allows you to post to WordPress as well as LinkedIn, Blogger, Live Journal and also give you the option to email the post simultaneously. It can replace several apps, freeing up memory in the mobile device and making posting quicker and more convenient.

Bloggers who only want to share with a few people also have mobile options. Posterous Spaces lets you manage Spaces, which work a lot like Tumblr’s Tumblelogs. You can upload a photo or an entire group of photos and share videos or just a text post. Users can create one Space or many and create groups so others can contribute to the Space. It gives you more privacy than ordinary blog platforms because you can choose who sees what you share.

Are You Posting Text or Sharing Real Life Experiences?

The kinds of posts you produce also factor into the best way to do it mobily. Bloggers that are heavier on words than pictures have lots of tools to make taking notes, writing posts and organizing these easier.

Managing Text

Brainstorming on the go is easier with Evernote. This app is free and is easier than searching for scraps of paper or stray pens when an idea strikes. It allows you to take notes as well as store snippets of pictures and audio for later posts, and also helps you keep things organized.

If you’ve got lots of files to deal with, consider File Scout. This app lets you create directories, move files to directories for quick retrieval later and zip and unzip files from mobile devices. Docs to Go also lets you create files, whereas many apps only let you edit existing files. Docs to Go also has a variety of fonts and characters rare in text editors for mobile devices.

Managing Pictures and Video

There are probably more apps for handling photos and videos than everything else you’d want to do for your blog mobily all put together. If you want something you recognize from working on your desktop, consider Adobe Photoshop Express. The app isn’t as powerful as its big brother, but it does beat having no way to edit or manipulate photos without a desktop.

vPost lets you capture several images (or audio clips or videos) and post them together. This is handy, especially if you’re chronicling an adventure to share with readers.

For heavy video posting on the go, such as powering live events for your readers, a free app that makes this a dream is Cover It Live. This app also lets you post your own commentary during the event and upload multimedia files for your viewership’s enjoyment.

So Many Devices, So Little Time: Tablets vs. Smartphones

Before heading out to blog the globe, consider whether a tablet or smartphone is your best mobile blogging tool. The arguments for a tablet are: it’s larger and works more like a desktop. Which means less new stuff to get used to.

A smartphone is smaller and easily slips into a little pocket if you’re somewhere that managing a bag or backpack isn’t convenient or possible. And the cameras on most 4G cell phones are really good now. Smartphones may be the route to go for ultimate portability and lots of photos or video with lighter text blogging.

Tablets are perhaps the best solution for bloggers who do heavy writing and light photos and videos, and the larger screens are far easier to manage HTML code.

Show You What? The Money?

Blogging is fun, but getting paid to blog is where it’s at. Fortunately, PayPal has an app that lets you manage your account from anywhere, so you don’t have to wait to get back to the spare bedr – I mean – office to get your money or pay what you owe. It offers all the functions available on the desktop version, including the ability to get your ad revenue, take payments and send money.

Blogging on the go and getting paid to do it. Bliss.

We’ve all heard the adage “Content is King”. And in a lot of ways it make sense. We live in a world that has a voracious appetite for content. Social Media needs constant content to keep people engaged. Google needs content to have something to analyze and rank in its search engine. Companies need content to attract new customers and to establish authority and trust with their visitors.

That’s a great argument for content’s supremacy.

But here’s the counterpoint. Any single piece of content, while important, will eventually fade away with time. Consistent content is key. Regular, predictable content is what helps Google, will drive repeat visitors and will keep you visible on social media. Too many companies, solopreneurs or hobbyists lose the battle with consistency and lose all of the benefits that come with content production.

How to Blog Consistently

Here are 6 ways to improve your consistency and gain the business benefits of producing regular blog content:

1) Keep To A Schedule

Set a realistic schedule and keep to it. Don’t set an idealistic schedule that will demotivate you (e.g. twice/week, once/week). In a company, have someone on point to make sure the schedule is followed.

2) Use Content Curation Techniques

In addition to original content, share some of the amazing content available out there by curating great content. Curationsoft is one tool to help you find recent blog posts, videos or pictures by keyword and insert them into your post.

3) Use Blog Writing Formulas

How-to posts and list posts are consistently strong post types that resonate with readers and get lots of shares in social media.

4) Accept Guest Writers

Your partners, industry contacts, industry bloggers, or even customers would get value out of writing for you (by exposing their brand to your audience). You get help with your content calendar. Invite others to contribute to your blog (just make sure you reserve the right to edit or reject posts).

5) Conduct Interviews

Gain expert insight for your audience and use industry contacts to produce the “thought” in the thought leadership. You can put audio, video or textual content to post the interview content (or a summary of it).

6) Use Existing Company Assets (or generate more)

Repurpose old white papers or presentations. Utilize existing videos, pictures or other existing content. If you don’t have any now, create new video or pictorial content (it doesn’t have to be professionally produced) and be aware of the re-purposing potential of any new presentations or other content you create.

Are you creating content consistently?

Yes, you need to create great content. Without great content you won’t rise above the rest. But more importantly, you need to make sure you produce content consistently or your great (old) content will become forgotten while others grow their content and customer “mind share”. Make sure you learn how to blog consistently and you’ll get better results from search, social media and from your customers.

If you do Google Adwords advertising, this is a page you’ll want to put on your bookmarks. Markus Allen is tracking the 250 most expensive keywords on Google Adwords and updating the list each month.

Click on the image below to see the full list. I am floored by the Cost Per Click for some of these keywords.

Do you think you could learn something about conversion from people who are spending over $100 per click to get people to their sites? They have to have high converting landing pages or they’d work straight through their advertising budget in a day or two with nothing to show for it.

Track down the advertisers without clicking their Adwords links though. They are paying a pretty penny per click and you don’t want to run up their bill.
