October 1st, 2008 - British web celeb, CharlieIsSoCoolLike, hosted his 18th birthday party right here LIVE on www.blogTV.com. In a heart warming effort to raise funds for cancer research, Charlie and friend Nerimon (another well known web celeb in England) vowed to shave their heads if their viewers could donate a substantial amount of cash to the cause. By the end of the entertaining broadcast, young Charlie and thousands of adoring fans raised a respectable £4,306.47 leaving him a year older, a bundle of hair shorter and a very good deed greater. At a time of war and fear, it is wonderful to see a young man coming of age and attempting to make his world a better place using the most modern form of communication, live broadcast. We're constantly making improvements and fixes on blogTV. Here are our newest little features we think will make you just a little bit happier:

FRIENDS ONLY! We have added one more option to your chat rooms. Now you have the option to allow only friends to talk during your show. (This should also bring more purpose to whom you add to your friends list).

APPROVE ALL! We have also made it easier for those of you who have a lot of friend requests (although I don't seem to have this problem) to simply select and approve all the friend requests at once.

MORE COUNTRIES! As our site becomes more and more diverse so has our list of countries. In an effort not to exclude anyone during the registration process, we have added some of the smaller, lesser known places for those of you who are actually from those well, small and lesser known places. Now everyone will know exactly where you come from when they visit your profile page.

Jorge Rojas (My space) is an artist from Mexico and has been based in New York City since 2003. His art exists in many forms including painting, sculpture and installation. He has exhibited his work across the United States, Mexico and India and is included in numerous private and public collections. My space is an interactive performance installation piece that looks at online communities and how technology is changing the way we communicate.

The artist will live inside a museum’s storefront window for 7 full days, making art and interacting with visitors attending the venue and online. The experience will be broadcast live on BlogTV. Check out his blogTV profile playground for his complete broadcasting SCHEDULE !

Woohoo, blogTV will be in FHM magazine! Fallofautumndistro was recently interviewed by FHM magazine for an article about YouTube. They naturally asked him questions at the end about blogTV. Of course he had nothing but nice things to say about us. Check it out:

FD: BlogTV is a live streaming video service. YouTube only plays back pre-recorded, uploaded videos. I’ve been having a lot of fun over the last few months broadcasting a live show on BlogTV (you can find my live show here: tinyurl.com/blogtv). I was apprehensive at first. Despite my very public demeanor on YouTube, I am extremely shy and quiet in person. YouTube videos allow for editing and re-takes. BlogTV is live, and every mess-up, slip of the tongue and “umm” are broadcast to your audience. Lately, I’ve become more comfortable with broadcasting live.

BlogTV is a wonderful way to interact with viewers and the people you watch on YouTube. Broadcasting a live show really breaks down any pretenses of subscriber or view counts because it’s just you hanging out with other YouTubers, much like a virtual YouTube Gathering. I consistently recommend the service to other video makers.

BlogTV can also be a great collaborative tool. Live streaming video can be a powerful way to remotely direct a collaboration video. Last winter I remote directed YouTube user LisaNova via live streaming video. Lisa and I were working on a parody of the popular iPhone from Apple, our video was entitled “iPwn”. I had written the script and emailed it to Lisa, who then suggested we try producing the video together via streaming video. It was a wonderful experience.

FHM: In your opinion, is it possible to gain a notable standing on blogtv alone or would you say it is a good addition for when you have reached a certain level of fame (for example) on YouTube?

FD: Starting on any new site is difficult. Unless your background is in marketing, you’re going to need help along the way to send viewer’s eyes to your show. Having an established presence on YouTube first helps, as you are able to send a percentage of your viewers over to your show on BlogTV. That said, nothing is impossible, and if you have good content – the most important factor in becoming popular in any medium – word will spread and your show will grow. You can help by promoting your show on related forums, or holding special events, contests and giveaways to attract viewers.

Who will be Insomnia Ironman?

Big deal broadcasters, Shaycarl, CharlesTrippy, DaveDays, ItsBrent and sXePhil challenge one another to see who can stay up the longest... live on blogTV. The challenge began Friday, August 1st at 5PM EST and will continue until the last one falls asleep! The challenge started out on Shaycarl's channel and is rotating between the 5 of them every 30 minutes. The rules they created are simple: they can co-host any of the other 4 at any time OR call them on speaker phone to make sure they are awake. They don't have the consequences figured out yet but there is talk of shaved heads/beards. Tune in for the madness.

On Monday, July 21, blogTV started the Top Hot Shot Contest! We are awarding $100 each week to the top new registered users (hot shots).

Simply create a blogTV account, invite ALL of your friends from around the internet (or even your community, school, extra curricular activities...etc) and start broadcasting. Whichever new broadcaster gets the most NEW REGISTERED SUBSCRIBED users (meaning users that also signed up that week) in his/her show will win $100! Simple as that!

Contest Terms:

1) Only new registered users from each week will be allowed to be the top broadcaster of the week

2) Only new registered users who subscribe to the show will be counted. Old users (who signed up before the week in question) and guests will not count.

3) Creating multiple accounts from the same IP and subscribing to one's own show will not count
