Energy Independence Day was a tremendous success! It was the high water mark of the Pickens Plan so far.

Because of your hard work, we have kept the issue of our dependence on foreign oil on the front burner of the U.S. Congress and the media.

We already have more than 70 bi-partisan co-sponsors of the NAT GAS Act (H.R. 1835) in the House. On Energy Independence Day — July 8 — we participated in a bi-partisan press conference to introduce the NAT GAS Act (S. 1408) in the Senate.

Marking the first anniversary of the Pickens Plan we did numerous interviews on radio, local TV, national TV, national wire services and a national business magazine.

You and your Congressional District Groups have kept the issue of America’s dependence on foreign oil in your local media with rallies, op-eds, and letters to the editor. WOW – if this inspiring video doesn’t open your eyes, I’m not sure what will.  I found it on Build It Green Concepts:   The Story of Stuff  narrated by Annie Leonard.  ”An activist who has spent the past 10 years traveling the globe fighting environmental threats.”  She delivers “a rapid-fire, often humorous and always engaging story about all our stuff - where it comes from and where it goes when we throw it away.  Leonard examines the real cost of extraction, production, distribution, consumption and disposal, and she isolates the moment in history where she says the trend of consumption mania began.  The Story of Stuff examines how economic policies of the post -World War II era ushered in notions of  “planned obsolescence” and “perceived obsolescence” – and how these notions are still driving much of the U.S. and global economies  today.“

We are are suckered into consumption that effects not our our environment but also our health.  

This is a captivating 20 minute, well worth it, clip.  A real wake up call.  I loved it!
