AFM is an interesting time of the year, especially here on Bloody Disgusting. While we already have our hands filled with the daily news breaks, the American Film Market causes an overload of news that's worse than the fate of the "glutton" in Se7en. While news will in fact return to normal by this time next week, I want to let the casual readers know that there are tons of great stories that they're missing. And for those of you really trying your best to keep up with the madness, make sure you bookmark our AFM news page for everything horror-related revealed this week(end). Lastly, please note that when AFM news begins to exit the front page, we'll be moving (most of) it to the Indie Section in order to keep it all organized in one place.
I love it, I absolutely love it! Writer Max Barry is already 43 pages into Machine Man, his thriller-novella that's being posted online page by page (for FREE) daily. The book caught the attention of Mandalay Pictures who picked up film rights to the thriller that Vantage Books plans to publish in 2011. You can read it yourself by clicking here. While the story is being kept secret (as he says, "I'm not telling"), the gist of it concerns a tech engineer who's tired of going through life average and unnoticed, so he replaces parts of his body with titanium upgrades of his own design. He then discovers that he isn't the only one with plans for his new body. If only I had time to read get involved, it sounds pretty incredible.

The original 1986 film told the story of Melvin, the Tromaville Health Club mop boy, who inadvertently and naively trusts the hedonistic, contemptuous and vain health club members, to the point of accidentally ending up in a vat of toxic waste. The devastating results then have a transmogrification effect, his alter ego is released, and the Toxic Avenger is born, to deadly and comical results. The local mop boy is now the local Superhero, the saviour of corruption, thuggish bullies and indifference. Troma classic with good make-up effects and stunts, a pleasant surprise indeed.

We caught wind of the new trailer for Giovanni Rodriguez's Red Canyon, which is said to be reminiscent of High Tension and The Devils Rejects. In the film, Regina, 21, and Devon Ashton, 23, return to their family home in the badlands of Utah. But in coming home they awaken a killing rage in a town where everyone has ties that bind. They realize too late that the past should stay dead and buried. Otherwise, it doesnt haunt it hurts. The cast consists of Norman Reedus (Boondock Saints) and Noah Fleiss, the Indie anti-hero of Brick. Other members of the cast include: Christine Lakin, fresh from the Hottie and Nottie, Tim Draxl, Ankur Bhatt, Katie Maguire, Walter Rodriguez, and Richard Pratt.

Beyond the break you'll find the trailer and promo art for Matt Zettell's Resurrection County. A warning to outsiders! When traveling through Resurrection County, mind the signs, one false move out there could be your last. When four suburbanite campers roll into the remote town of Enoch, they find that southern hospitality still exists. But things are not what they appear to be, as a weekend camping trip turns deadly. The locals are all too happy to serve up their own brand of an eye for an eye justice. A pulse-pounding descent into neo gothic horror.

Bloody Disgusting learned exclusively that Dark Castle Films is developing a new horror film entitled Library of Dust. While details are slim, we did manage to get our hands on the following plot: "The ashes of the unclaimed dead at a psychiatric hospital undergo chemical reactions causing blooms of color corrosion, revealing unexpected beauty in the most unlikely places." Dark Castle's been picking up steam with their releases and have a ton on their plate including The Factory and Unknown White Male.
