Bloomberg Television Names Dan Arnall as Executive Producer of News

Veteran business news journalist Dan Arnall has joined Bloomberg as Executive Producer of News for Bloomberg Television.

The announcement was made by Andrew Morse, head of Bloomberg TV in the U.S.

Arnall brings more than a decade of experience covering the economy, American business and the impact of financial regulation, among other major stories. Based in New York, he will oversee Bloomberg's television newsgathering and editorial in the U.S. Arnall will also work to integrate video content across the company's multimedia properties including Bloomberg.com and Bloomberg Mobile, which together reach millions of users per day.

"Dan's extensive experience in covering business news and his passion for the beat, along with his creative production skills, will make him a crucial leader of the Bloomberg TV team," said Morse.

"I'm looking forwarding to joining the best team in business news," said Arnall. "This is an exciting time of growth for Bloomberg as we expand our TV programming and bring our in-depth business and financial news coverage across every digital platform."

Arnall joins Bloomberg from ABC News, where he served as senior producer for business coverage and most recently as senior producer for domestic news at "World News with Diane Sawyer." While at ABC, he ran business and economic coverage across all platforms, including coverage of the 2008 financial crisis, the Japanese earthquake and Presidential and mid-term elections. Prior to joining ABC in 2004, Arnall began his journalism career as a reporter for ABC, CBS and NBC affiliates in Missouri, then at WNBC and CNN in New York. He holds a master's degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri.

Merrill Knox of TVNewser interviewed new Bloomberg Television anchor Trish Regan about her new role and why business journalism is so important these days.

Knox writes, “Regan is a former CNBC anchor who thought ‘for a long time’ about the right place for her. A major attraction of Bloomberg TV, she says, was the opportunity to report on the financial and economic topics that interest her the most.

“‘We’re able to break financial news unlike any other — we have no rival in that sense,’ she says. ‘To that point, it gave me the chance to drill down into what I enjoy talking about more than anything else. There’s nothing I would rather do — even on a Saturday night — than to debate the direction of the economy, and debate the future of the markets.’

“Regan also pointed to Bloomberg’s commitment to international news as a selling point. She says global reporting is something she looks forward to — especially in Europe, where she sees the financial crisis as a mirror for what happened to the U.S. in 2008.

“‘A priority of mine is to get to Europe, and talk to the leaders there, and then talk to the people there, to really understand the story from every angle and make sure that our viewers have the opportunity to see the story from every side,’ she said.”

Variety: Do you think people will get more interested in the economy as the campaign moves forward?

Regan: The horse race is very interesting; people vote their pocketbooks, and it’s going to come down to who they believe has the best economic policy. [For a reporter,] it’s an opportunity to really scrutinize at a very detailed level. That’s the responsible thing to do as a journalist; as a financial journalist, that’s the skill set that I bring to the table. [...] I’m going to do a new segment on the show called Reganomix, to sort of mix it up and talk about these different policies.

Variety: It sounds like fun, honestly.

Regan: Maybe I’m a bit of a wonk and a dork, but I really enjoy it. In an election year, we’re looking at everything through an economic lens. Just look at this past year, all the volatility was incredible, and we ended up at exactly the same point at the end of the day. All the concerns came from the downgrade of the US debt, and [the question of] what’s going to happen next in Europe.

Bloomberg TV Hires CNBC Producer for Trish Regan Show

In an email to staff, Ted Fine, the executive producer of afternoon programming at Bloomberg Television, announced that the network has hired Jason Farkas from CNBC to work on 'Street Smart' which will be presented by recent hire, ex-CNBC presenter Trish Regan.

Fine said in his email; "I’m thrilled to announce that Jason Farkas is joining Bloomberg Television as Senior Broadcast Producer. Jason will be my deputy across all afternoon programming. His first focus is helping the ‘Street Smart’ team as we re-launch with the addition of Trish Regan.

"Jason comes to Bloomberg Television from CNBC where he was Senior Producer of CNBC SportsBiz, and Trading the Globe, CNBC’s first program dedicated to emerging market investing. Before that he one of the founding producers of Fast Money, and part of the team that launched Options Action, Money in Motion, Strategy Session, and the Fast Money Halftime Report.

Bloomberg Television Signs Trish Regan

Bloomberg Television announced Monday it has signed Trish Regan, former CNBC anchor and CBS News correspondent, as an anchor.

Regan will co-anchor Bloomberg TV’s “Street Smart” which will air from 3-5 pm ET weekdays from Bloomberg Television’s global headquarters in New York, beginning Jan. 9. She will also anchor a number of prime time specials and help lead anchor coverage of the 2012 Presidential election campaign for Bloomberg TV.

“Trish is an accomplished broadcast journalist and skilled reporter who has covered some of the most important global economic stories of our time,” said Andrew Morse, head of Bloomberg Television in the U.S., in a statement. “She’ll play a key role on our Bloomberg team as we move forward with our goal of becoming the most influential business and financial news network.”

An Emmy-nominated investigative journalist and author, Regan was previously an anchor at CNBC, where she also anchored prime time documentaries and reported on major economic news, including the U.S. banking collapse of 2008 and the European debt crisis.

Among other stories, Regan reported from the G-8 summit in Germany, covered Brazil’s economic boom and challenges, and interviewed Colombian President Álvaro Uribe about investing in emerging markets. Regan also was a regular contributor to NBC’s “Nightly News with Brian Williams,” the “Today” show, and the syndicated “Chris Matthews Show.”

Regan joined CNBC from CBS News where she was a correspondent reporting for the “CBS Evening News” and a contributor to “Face the Nation” and “48 Hours.” Regan’s focus at CBS News was the U.S. economy. Regan is a member of The Council on Foreign Relations and is a graduate of Columbia University.

Put simply, what exactly do you do and how’d you end up there?

I am a journalist and anchor of a two hour live global broadcast everyday on Bloomberg TV.

My show – called “InBusiness with Margaret Brennan” – is a daily snapshot of the top financial issues on Wall Street, Main Street, K Street and the global markets.

I joined Bloomberg TV in July 2009 as an anchor after spending 7 years as a reporter and before than a producer at CNBC. I studied Foreign Affairs and Middle East studies at the University of Virginia and minored in Arabic language. I thought that I’d work in diplomacy but ended up in TV after interning at CNN one summer.

I joined TV news because I like being in the middle of the world as it is changing. For me, financial news is more than decimal points and earnings reports. To paraphrase Sec. Clinton, economic strength is more of a determination of influence than military might in today’s world. In this country the election will be decided on whether Americans have jobs and opportunity. And outside the U.S., arguably the fate of 500 million Europeans and the rest of the global economy rests on the shoulders of two women: Germany’s Angela Merkel and the IMF’s Christine Lagarde. All of these narratives and currents excite me. Those are the ideas that get me excited every day.

Guy Johnson Joins Bloomberg Television in London

Bloomberg Television has today announced that former CNBC presenter Guy Johnson is to join the network as its new London-based anchor.

Prior to joining Bloomberg, Johnson spent the last 14 years as a lead presenter at CNBC in London, most recently anchoring "European Closing Bell". Earlier in his career he also held positions at ITN (Channel 5) and Financial Times Television reporting on global financial and business activity.

Malcolm Fried, head of Bloomberg Television in Europe says: “Guy has a great deal of relevant experience and is a strong addition to the Bloomberg Television presenting team here in Europe. He's covered many major global economic and corporate events, interviewed countless political and business leaders and his experience of covering the rapidly moving developments in the eurozone will enhance our current output."

Linette Lopez of Business Insider spent a day with Tom Keene, the host of “Bloomberg Surveillance” on Bloomberg Television to find out what it’s like putting the show together each day.

Lopez writes, “Since 2002 Tom Keene has been a fixture in Bloomberg news. He does Bloomberg Surveillance on the radio (with Ken Prewitt), he writes columns, and every day at noon he takes Surveillance to TV to discuss topics that are really moving markets.

“Now he’s known all over global Wall Street for his sharp insight, and of course, his bow tie collection (they’re Hermes, by the way, and he has too many to count).

“‘The team invented the process.’ Keene told Business Insider. ‘We know what we do, and it’s all about the guests… I am the luckiest guy on Wall Street… There’s never been a day where I felt like I had a job.’

“But it is a job, one that the entire industry notices. Keene works incredibly hard like everyone else on Wall Street — 70 to 75 hours a week starting at 4:00 a.m. daily in order to stay ahead of the news cycle. He says his work has become all consuming. He’s either reading or working at all times: ‘The first thing I want to know in the morning,’ he said, ‘is where’s the euro/dollar.’

“That could, however, change in a week.

“New cycle aside, though, questions involving ‘where, who, what, and why’ are all part of the most important (and obvious) trait about Keene — his insatiable curiosity. He says it comes from his upbringing in Rochester, New York. His family emphasized an understanding of the liberal arts, especially history, and math.”

Bloomberg TV Sports Biz Reporter Heads to ESPN

Alex Weprin of TVNewser.com reports that Bloomberg Television reporter Michele Steele is leaving for a job at ESPN.

Weprin reports, “Steele is the second business network talent to depart for Bristol in recent weeks: ESPN hired Fox Business Network anchor Chris Cotter last month. The channel also recently hired a sports business reporter of its own in Kristi Dosh, who founded the Business of College Sports blog.

“Bloomberg TV meanwhile has seen a small exodus of talent. In the last few weeks producer Mark Berniker left the channel while managing editor Dan Colarusso jumped to Reuters. That said, Bloomberg has also been adding staffers to its ranks, including Courtney Chapman and Wendy Brundige from ABC, Stephanie Ruhle from Deutsche Bank and Justin Dial from CNN.”

Since joining Bloomberg in 2007, Steele also held various anchoring and reporting roles including reporting live from the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Prior to joining Bloomberg Television, Steele was a senior reporter for Forbes video on-demand service and a regular contributor to Forbes on Fox.

Dan Colarusso, the managing editor of Bloomberg Television, is leaving for a position at Reuters, two separate sources confirmed to Talking Biz News.

It’s unclear what Colarusso’s new position will be at Reuters, but the wire service has been increasing its video offerings.

Colarusso joined the network in August 2009 and was responsible for the content and direction of the U.S. operations. In recent months, Bloomberg Television had made a number of moves, including hiring two new anchors, a West Coast bureau chief and a head of U.S. news.

Prior to joining Bloomberg TV, Colarusso was managing editor at Silicon Alley Insider and managing editor at Conde Nast Portfolio.com. Before that he was metro editor at the New York Post, and business editor at the New York Post. He has also written for the New York Times, Barron’s and The Daily Beast.

Colarusso, a Brooklyn native, joined the Post in 2002 from TheStreet.com. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus and worked at Business Tokyo and Securities Weeks.

At TheStreet.com, Colarusso was associated editor and consulted on story ideas and wrote a weekly column called “Truth Serum” and features. He also frequently appeared on CNBC’s “Squawk Box.”

Bloomberg TV Hires Executive Producer

ABC News producer Courtney Chapman was named executive producer of special events for Bloomberg TV, according to Merrill Knox of TVNewser.

Knox writes, “”At ABC News, Chapman was the coordinating producer of content development for digital media, managing digital coverage of the 2010 midterm election and the royal wedding in the UK. In her new role, she will be responsible for Bloomberg TV coverage of both live and planned major events.

Andrew Morse, Bloomberg’s head of U.S. television, joined the business network from ABC News in June. Earlier this month, Morse also brought on former ABCer Wendy Brundige as the network’s West Coast bureau chief.

“In a statement, Bloomberg TV said the goal of Chapman’s role is ‘to deliver more in-depth special reports to our viewers.’ The network produced several specials this summer and has another, called ‘EU Breakthrough,’ scheduled for 7 p.m.ET tonight.”

Bloomberg Media Group has announced the formation of Bloomberg TV Mongolia, a new Bloomberg Television channel in partnership with The Trade & Development Bank of Mongolia (TDB), the oldest and one of the largest banks in Mongolia.

Bloomberg TV Mongolia, scheduled to launch in March 2012, targets a fast-developing region in Asia, with one of the best-performing stock markets in the region and an economy driven by growth in commodities and exports to China.

Ex-Bloomberg TV Employee to File Discrimination Suit

Michael Musto of The Village Voice reports that Bloomberg Media’s International Managing Director of Television Brian Martinez plans to file a discrimination lawsuit against the company for losing his job earlier this year.

Musto reports, “Martinez’s suit alleges that he was the victim of anti-gay discrimination and also perceived disability discrimination.

“After a domestic violence incident with his then-partner, Martinez says his employer deemed him mentally incapacitated to continue working, though he says a doctor found him perfectly capable.

“Bloomberg Media’s official comment is:

“‘Throughout his 10-plus years at Bloomberg, Brian was open about his sexual orientation and was promoted multiple times. We have always been a leader in providing benefits to domestic partners, and we covered the health benefits of Brian’s partners including an international relocation of his partner from Tokyo to London.

“‘Any hint that his termination was related to sexual orientation is ludicrous to anyone who knows Brian or knows this company.’”

How do you define your new role at Bloomberg? Right off the bat you are doing GOP debates. What’s the strategy there?

"We’re an organization that is growing, thriving, ambitious, and aggressive, and the only thing that is holding us back right now is honestly our own imagination. So to have this presidential debate right out of the gate and to be able to put a marker in the ground to say Bloomberg TV is going to be a major player in focusing on the single biggest story in the country right now, it’s an exciting way to start."

Do you see yourself competing with or trying to be like a CNBC or a Fox Business, or something else?

"The competitive landscape is more than just CNBC and Fox. Our goal is to be the most influential business and financial news organization on the planet. We want to be competitive in this space not just on linear television by the way, but across the media spectrum."

Let’s talk about neighborhooding. Are you targeting the New York market specifically? Are you looking to buy your way in?

"The goal is to get Bloomberg TV in front of as many eyeballs as possible—not just as a linear cable network, but as a multi-platform network. We want to be aggressive in mobile, we want to be aggressive on the Web, we want to be aggressive on TV, we want to be aggressive on cable. That’s what you saw at the debate. People showed up to watch us across a variety of platforms and that to me is as exciting as anything else."

Bloomberg TV Launches iPad App

Bloomberg has launched Bloomberg TV+, an ad-supported live streaming, 24/7 video experience for business news on the iPad.

In addition to the 24/7 free live stream, there’s original content, access to on-demand episodes of programs such as “Game Changers” and “TechStars,” clips of interviews and breaking news.

While the app’s main focus is video, users can also get live market data and related news for companies mentioned in videos. There are other functions such as clip or topic searching, portrait and landscape views, and sharing options.

The lead advertising launch partner is Credit Suisse, and sponsors are Johnnie Walker Blue, OppenheimerFunds, NYSE Euronext, and Verizon.

Bloomberg TV Names West Coast Bureau Chief and Head of US News

Bloomberg Television named Wendy Brundige as West Coast bureau chief and Justin Dial as head of U.S. newsgathering.

Brundige, who will be based in San Francisco and joins Bloomberg from ABC News, will oversee editorial content and production for “Bloomberg West,” the daily program hosted by Emily Chang and Cory Johnson from the network’s new studios on the Embarcadero.

Brundige will also be responsible for Bloomberg TV’s expanding coverage of Silicon Valley and West Coast-based new media, entertainment and technology companies.

Dial, who joins Bloomberg from CNN, will manage Bloomberg Television’s newsgathering and field reporting in the U.S. from the network’s global headquarters in New York. Dial, who covered politics across all CNN networks and shows, will contribute to Bloomberg’s coverage of the 2012 “The Economy Election,” which includes the new series, “Where the Jobs Are” tracking economic opportunities in key states and sectors across America.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Wendy and Justin to the Bloomberg team,” said Andrew Morse, head of Bloomberg TV in the U.S., in a statement. “Their experience and expertise will be invaluable as we pursue our goal of becoming the most influential business and financial news network in the world.”

Brundige served at ABC News for more than seven years, most recently as the network’s Seattle bureau producer responsible for covering breaking news in the Western U.S. for all ABC News platforms. She reported on the death of Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs in addition to stories on the economy, energy prices and the impact of the recession on small business.

While at ABC, she served as a producer for “Good Morning America” and “World News,” among other roles.

Justin Dial joins Bloomberg from CNN, where he most recently served as a senior producer for CNN’s “American Morning.” Dial served as a field producer for CNN across the US. He also covered breaking news in locations throughout the Middle East, Afghanistan and Haiti and was involved in coverage of the Iraq war while based in Doha, Qatar.

Previously, Dial served as the news manager for CNN’s national desk in Atlanta and as an assignment editor at NBC News.

Bloomberg TV Expanding into Politics

Joe Flint of the Los Angeles Times writes about how Bloomberg Television is expanding its political coverage with the idea of expanding its audience.

Flint writes, “The business news cable channel is hosting its first-ever presidential debate next week at Dartmouth College featuring the Republican candidates for the Oval Office including Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Michele Bachmann. The debate will focus primarily on the economy.

“Bloomberg, which is presenting the Oct. 11 debate in partnership with the Washington Post, has been trying to make inroads against its main competitor CNBC for several years. In June, it hired former ABC News executive Andrew Morse in part to broaden its coverage and grow its audience.

“Part of that strategy is beefing up Bloomberg’s political coverage for the 2012 campaign. The network has hired former Sen. John Sununu, who was chief of staff for President George H.W. Bush, and ABC’s Matthew Dowd to serve as political analysts. Dowd still is employed by ABC as well.

“Moderating the debate will be Charlie Rose, Washington Post political reporter Karen Tumulty and Bloomberg White House correspondent Julianna Goldman.”

Stephanie Ruhle, who spent 14 years on Wall Street, has been hired by Bloomberg Television to be a correspondent on its “Inside Track” show during the mornings.

Ruhle is a co-anchor with Erik Schatzker. The show airs from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Beginning on Monday, Oct. 24, Deirdre Bolton, who previously co-anchored with Schatzker, will anchor a new program, “MoneyMoves” at 1 p.m. ET, where Bolton will focus on covering market volatility and investing.

Before joining business journalism, Ruhle worked at Credit Suisse First Boston, where she was a vice president, and Deutsche Bank, where she was managing director in global markets senior relationship management overseeing relationships for some of the firm’s largest hedge fund clients. Prior to that role, she was a top producing salesperson covering multi-strategy hedge funds.

She stayed at Credit Suisse for six years working in hedge fund sales and moved to Deutsche Bank’s institutional client group in 2003.

She founded Deutsche Bank’s Global Markets Women’s Network five years ago, and she was also the co-chair of Deutsche Bank’s Women on Wall Street steering committee.

Ruhle is also on the board of Girls Inc. of New York City, a non-profit organization focused on helping the cognitive, emotional, intellectual and physical development of girls. With Girls Inc., Ruhle is working on a program called Financial Fitness 4 Life.

Ruhle, who grew up in Park Ridge, N.J. and attended Lehigh University, was featured in 2009 on the cover of Working Mother magazine.

Bloomberg TV's Chang Named One of San Francisco’s 'Hot' People

Emily Chang of Bloomberg Television was nominated to the 'Hot 20 2011' list by 7×7 magazine in San Francisco.

Other nominees include San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Ryan Vogelsong, SFGate columnist Beth Spotswood and Instagram founders Mike Krieger and Kevin Systrom.

The magazine’s Anna Pan wrote, “These days, she has to face a lot less controversy as cohost of Bloomberg West, a tech news show for Bloomberg TV that reaches 250 million homes.

“Since joining Bloomberg in 2010, the five-time Emmy winner has gained a loyal Twitter following, who watches out for scoops on Bay Area companies like Facebook, Twitter, and Airbnb. On a typical day, Chang works in front of four computer screens in the Embarcadero newsroom to make her 3 p.m. deadline.

“‘The Silicon Valley is where the next big thing is probably going to come from,’ says Chang. ‘I like to think of it as the second Industrial Revolution. When we look back on this time in history, it will surely be one of the most revolutionary periods ever. Today’s smartphone is yesterday’s cotton gin.’

“As a techie, Chang hardly sheds a tear for the death of old media. Instead, she happily ushers in the new digital age, getting much of her news from her network, Twitter, Pulse, blogs, and her iPad. ‘I try not to sleep with it,’ says Chang, who holds onto her iPad as tightly as she did that Oba-Mao T-shirt.”

Bloomberg Teams with Saudi Prince on New Channel

Saudi billionaire Prince Alwaleed bin Talal says he has teamed up with business news service Bloomberg LP on a new Arabic language satellite news channel.

An Associated Press story states, “Alwaleed, who heads Kingdom Holding Co., an investment firm with stakes in several Western blue chip companies including Citigroup, said Tuesday the new Alarab channel will focus ‘on the important shifts taking place across the Arab world, with an emphasis on freedom of speech and freedom of press.’

“He said Bloomberg business reports will be featured on the news channel and that a team of ‘media specialists’ and producers from financial news services would work with Alarab to help in the production of the new channel’s business coverage.

“The channel is slated to begin operations next year.”

Bloomberg TV Economics Editor Reflects on Covering 9/11

Michael McKee, economics editor for Bloomberg Television, recently reflected on his experience covering the 9/11 attacks.

On the morning of Sept. 11, McKee, who was then covering the economy for Bloomberg News, was in a cab headed to National Association for Business Economics conference at the World Trade Center. McKee was on a pay phone on West Street, across from the South Tower, on hold for a television hit after dictating headlines to the assignment desk, when the South Tower fell.

He returned to the Bloomberg bureau later that day, after helping some economists from the conference make their way from Battery Park to midtown.

McKee reflected on his experience:

“I was in a taxi, heading down Manhattan’s West Side Highway for a conference at the World Trade Center when the first airliner flew over us and crashed into the North Tower. I jumped from the cab and ran three blocks to the trade center as I called headlines in to the desk.”

“Just as I began interviewing witnesses, we heard a tremendous noise, looked up and saw another large passenger plane slam into the South Tower. Glass and debris rained down.”

“And then the screams started. People trapped on the upper floors of the trade center began jumping or falling. We were close enough to hear the sickening thud as the bodies hit the ground.”

“Cellular phones weren’t working because all circuits were busy. I found a pay phone and called the newsroom. I was on hold to go on television when I heard a third, huge explosion.”

“Debris and smoke headed straight for me and I joined police and emergency workers who had been standing around and began racing for safety. The concussion from the explosion knocked me to the ground.”

“And then came the clouds of thick black smoke that filled the air. I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t see. Suddenly, we were frightened by the sound of jets overhead again — what we didn’t know was this time it was our military jets.”

“Grasping the Riverside railing, dozens of people staggered, crawled, and walked through the smoke, with no idea where they were or where they were going, other than away. When the smoke began to lift, I found I was in Battery Park.

“Bloody, battered, ripped and torn, eventually I made my way back to the newsroom. ‘My God,’ people said. ‘We thought you were dead.’ And then a producer ran up to me. ‘You look terrible!’ he said. ‘Perfect. Get on the set right away.’”

Bloomberg Television to Launch New Show 'TechStars'

Across the U.S., a new generation of entrepreneurs is working tirelessly to build the next Google, Apple or Facebook.

As investors sift through thousands of pitches and venture capital money keeps pouring in, start-ups are struggling to execute their ideas and locate the money to fund their business dreams and goals.

Beginning next Tuesday, Sept. 13 (9:00 PM, ET/PT), Bloomberg Television takes viewers inside one of the world’s most elite tech incubators in the half hour, non-scripted reality series, “TechStars,” to see what it really takes to make it in today’s marketplace.

Bloomberg Submits FCC Filing asking Comcast to Adhere to Agreement

Bloomberg LP submitted yet another filing Tuesday to the Federal Communications Commission asking the regulatory agency to force Comcast to put Bloomberg Television closer to CNBC in its channels as part of an agreement that allowed the cable company to purchase a majority stake in NBC Universal.

Comcast has resisted making the change, arguing that the agreement with the FCC does not require it to give Bloomberg Television such placement. It has asked the FCC to submit the dispute to an administrative law judge.

Bloomberg has argued against having the dispute adjudicated by a judge, noting in its Tuesday filing — submitted by the high-profile Washington law firm Patton Boggs — that “Should this case be referred to an administrative law judge, it is almost certain that far more time will elapse before Bloomberg will be able to obtain relief.”

In the filing, Bloomberg estimated that it could be as long as two to three years before it could get its network located near CNBC on Comcast cable systems.

“It is essential for the viability of independent news programming and the integrity of the FCC’s merger review process that Comcast not be permitted to simply walk away from its commitments,” said Greg Babyak, head of government affairs for Bloomberg, in a statement. “Bloomberg LP is confident that Chairman Genachowski and his colleagues will require Comcast to abide by the independent news neighborhooding condition to which Comcast affirmatively agreed to gain approval for its acquisition of NBCU.

“Comcast’s ongoing refusal to implement the independent news neighborhooding condition is nothing more than an attempt to run out the clock. With eight months of the condition’s life having already elapsed, Comcast still refuses to acknowledge the Order’s mandate that ‘now’ means ‘now.’”

Comcast was critical of Bloomberg’s tactics back in July.

Bloomberg Television Launches 'High Flyers' with Haslinda Amin in Asia

Bloomberg Television has announced that a new series, "High Flyers" with host Haslinda Amin, will join the Bloomberg's programming line-up in the Asia-Pacific region.

High Flyers will air on Thursday evenings at 6:00pm SIN/HKT with additional repeats on Saturday and Sunday at 11:00am and 9:30pm SIN/HK.

Shot on location inside one of Singapore’s most visible attractions, the Singapore Flyer, each episode features host Haslinda Amin interviewing members of Asia’s business elite from inside the famed observation wheel. Amin discusses the achievements, challenges, passions and the regional and global ambitions of these prominent Asia-based business leaders.

The first episode of "High Flyers" featured an interview with Sandiaga Uno, co-founder of Saratoga Capital, one of Indonesia's largest investment firms. New Bloomberg TV Show to Feature Tech Startups

Rip Empson of TechCrunch reports that a new show on Bloomberg Television called “TechStars” will show the process of how new tech companies go from ideas to operating ventures.

Empson writes, “David Tisch, Managing Director of TechStars in NYC and David Cohen, Founder and CEO of TechStars, who are both featured in the show, tell me that viewers can expect a real glimpse into what it’s like to be a TechStars company: ‘Everything is 100 percent real and representative’ of what it’s like to be a part of the incubator.

“TechStars had been approached by several networks looking to do reality-type shows on the incubator, but ultimately chose Bloomberg TV, they said, for the reasons cited above. They wanted it to be an objective, fact-based series that captured the actual essence of what it’s like to be a founder going through an incubator, rather than something that’s over-produced and skewed in favor of dramatization. Bloomberg seemed the right fit.

Bloomberg Looking to Launch Arabia TV Channel

Financial media giant Bloomberg LP is reportedly in talks with Prince Alwaleed bin Talal al-Saud of Saudi Arabia to launch a new Arabic-language business news channel.

Neal Ungerleider of Fast Company writes, “Regional newspapers are reporting that Bloomberg and Alwaleed are in talks to launch the new channel, which would be formally announced within the next two months. Bloomberg already has a separate Turkish-language channel.

“For the Middle East, this will mean a major new business-media player from abroad. Right now the world of Arabic-language business channels is dominated by CNBC Arabia, with Al Jazeera trying to catch up through the network’s financial programming. Al Jazeera lacks a dedicated business channel. In the meantime, Bloomberg’s expansion into the Middle East is a preemptive strike against Murdoch. British Sky Broadcasting’s Sky News Arabia (currently in the news for its ties to Murdoch) is slated for a 2012 launch.

“In essence, this will mean Alwaleed will be competing against himself. Alternately, it could mean Alwaleed — a media tycoon who controls much of the Arabic-language pop music and film industries — is hedging his bets when it comes to Murdoch’s current troubles.”

Comcast Fires Back at Bloomberg

Comcast Corp. has fired back at Bloomberg LP, which last month asked the Federal Communications Commission to determine whether the cable giant has violating the conditions the federal government put on it in return for approving its takeover of NBCUniversal.

Joe Flint of the Los Angeles Times writes, “At issue is where Bloomberg’s financial news channel Bloomberg TV is placed on Comcast cable systems. Bloomberg has argued that per the FCC’s order signing off on the deal its channel needs to be near its rival CNBC, which Comcast acquired when it took control NBC Universal.

“Bloomberg has accused Comcast of thumbing its nose at the FCC order.

“Comcast said that is not the case and on Wednesday responded to Bloomberg’s FCC complaint with its own filing at the regulatory agency.

“‘The complaint represents Bloomberg’s second attempt to extract preferential channel placement on Comcast’s cable systems through regulatory gamesmanship,’ Comcast said in its filing.

“The two sides are debating in part over the definition of a neighborhood, which is when similar channels are placed next to each on a cable system. Bloomberg’s complaint, Comcast claimed, is ‘based on an arbitrary and baseless definition of a news neighborhood as ‘four news channels within five positions.’ But that definition was neither supplied nor endorsed by the Commission. Instead, it is entirely Bloomberg’s invention.’”
