You might remember Armando and Belle from their sneak peak a few weeks ago. They are two of the sweetest Miniature Schnauzers, and we had so much fun during their photo session! Their session took place at their home in Lowell, MA on a gorgeous spring morning. Belle is the beautiful girl on the left and Armando is the handsome guy with his ball on the right.

They were both so good. Belle knew exactly how to pose and made sure I was always getting her good side!

Armando just wanted to play and play and play. He was very happy running around the yard and wrestling with Belle. They both just love each other!

Of course, Armando was willing to pose for a few photos too. His favorite spot in the house is sitting on the couch watching the world out “his” window. If you look close, you can see his nose prints on the window.

I’m so glad I got to meet Armando and Belle for their photo session. Like typical Schnauzers, they both have HUGE personalities. With dogs as cute and sweet as there two, there’s no way to take a bad photo.

It’s time for another 52 on Friday post! This week’s theme is “Urban.” So many pet photographers (myself included) love to take photos of dogs in a “natural” environment. While green grass, flowers, beaches and sunsets all do make for some beautiful photos, an urban landscape can make for some very unique and interesting images as well.

This week, I brought Iris to downtown Lowell to do some location scouting. I love walking around Lowell’s historic areas and Iris is always up for exploring.

This week I really wanted to not only explore a new area, but to also experiment with creating a “grittier” look with my editing to really reinforce the urban theme. I really enjoyed pushing my photos in a direction that isn’t typical of my usual style.

If you’d like to see more pets (and photographers!) exploring the urban landscape, go check out Charleston Pet Photographer, Dana Cubbage next. Remember to keep following the links in each blog post so that you can see all of this week’s photos. And don’t forget to come back here next Friday for more 52 on Friday photos.

I was so excited when I heard the theme for this week’s 52 on Friday photo because I knew I had the perfect two subjects scheduled for a session last Saturday. This week’s theme is “The More the Merrier” and the challenge was to capture multiple pets in the same photo. The best advice I can give for photographing multiple pets together is be sure to have patience, patience, and more patience!

Of course, it helps to have two dogs who are as cute as Armando and Belle. It’s hard to take a bad photo of faces this adorable! This was the very last photo I took during their session. See what I mean about being patient? I just knew the right moment would come.

Ok, one more of the two of them just because I can’t resist. Check back early next week for more photos of these two sweeties. I’m dying to share!

“The More the Merrier” means that every blog you visit will have photos of multiple pets together – playing together, posing together, or just enjoying each other’s company. What better reason that that is there to keep visiting all of the project 52 pet photography blogs? Next up is Indianapolis Pet Photographer, Tiffany Haulton. Be sure to follow the link in each blog post to see all of this week’s photos. I can’t think of a better way to spend Friday than looking at cute pet photos!

This week’s 52 on Friday theme, “Digital Darkroom,” is a chance to show off some of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into creating the perfect photo. With all the rain we’ve had this week, I wasn’t sure I’d be able to take any new photos outside. As soon as I saw a break in the rain, I ran outside to grab a quick portrait of Iris so I could share a “before and after” this week.

I shoot all of my photos in RAW, which means that the camera doesn’t apply any adjustments to the image beforehand. RAW gives me more flexibility and complete creative control over the end result, but because there aren’t any adjustments applied by the camera, I think the original RAW file (on the left) always looks a little bland. After a little editing, I end up with something much brighter!

In addition to brightening up the image and adjusting the color and contrast, I always remove distracting elements such as leashes. Almost all of the dogs you see on my photos were actually on leash, but the leash was removed during editing. Safety is the most important thing! Living with a herding dog who would love to chase cars if given the opportunity, I never like to take chances.

Ready to see more examples of how pet photographers can use the “Digital Darkroom” to really make their photos stand out? Start by checking out San Antonio Pet Photographer, Scott Robinson, and then keep following the links in each blog post to see how important editing is to producing the final photo.
