The Premier League Hall of Fame was announced in 2020, with the first inductions taking place in 2021. It was created to recognise players who have made an exceptional impact on the league since its formation in 1992, with several Chelsea legends among those honoured. This article will look at the former Blues who have been inducted, as well as possible future entrants.

Hall of Fame Criteria

Players are judged solely on their Premier League performances, rather than their achievements in other competitions. The standard baseline for consideration is 250 Premier League appearances. However, players may still be eligible if they meet one (or more) of the following criteria:

Made at least 200 Premier League appearances for a single club

Selected for a Premier League Team of the Decade or the 20th Anniversary Team

Won a Premier League Golden Boot or Golden Glove

Named Premier League Player of the Season

Won three Premier League titles

Scored 100 Premier League goals or recorded 100 Premier League clean sheets (goalkeepers)

These criteria determine which players are eligible to make the shortlist each year. Fans vote from the shortlist to decide who is inducted.

Chelsea Players in the Premier League Hall of Fame

By the end of 2025, 24 players had been inducted into the Premier League Hall of Fame, with six of them having played for Chelsea. Below are the former Blues who made such a lasting impact on the Premier League that they earned Hall of Fame recognition.

Frank Lampard

Year Inducted: 2021

Premier League Appearances: 609

Chelsea Appearances (PL): 429

Frank Lampard is one of the Premier League’s greatest midfielders and a defining figure of Chelsea’s modern era. Across 13 Premier League seasons at Stamford Bridge, he became Chelsea’s all-time leading league goalscorer, an extraordinary feat from midfield. Lampard combined relentless durability with elite end product, registering 147 Premier League goals, 102 assists and three league titles. As an undisputed great, it is no wonder he was one of the first players to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Didier Drogba

Year Inducted: 2022

Premier League Appearances: 254

Chelsea Appearances (PL): 254

Despite not even making the list of top 30 all-time Premier League goalscorers, very few would argue against Drogba’s inclusion. Across nine Premier League seasons at Stamford Bridge, he combined power, technique, and big-game mentality to devastating effect. Drogba scored over 100 Premier League goals for Chelsea and played a crucial role in four league title wins. Along the way, he claimed two Golden Boots, one of which came during an unreal 29-goal season in 2009/10. The Ivorian was more than just his numbers, though, as his physical presence and clutch performances against top rivals made him one of the Premier League’s most feared forwards.

Petr Cech

Year Inducted: 2023

Premier League Appearances: 443

Chelsea Appearances (PL): 333

Cech holds the record for the most Premier League clean sheets as well as one of the highest clean sheet percentages at 45.6%. His exceptional goalkeeping ability also saw him collect the Premier League Golden Glove on four occasions, a joint record, only matched by Joe Hart. Three of these came while at Chelsea, and the other while at Arsenal. No other keeper has won the award for more than one club. Renowned for his composure, shot-stopping, and command of the penalty area, he redefined goalkeeping standards in the Premier League.

Ashley Cole

Year Inducted: 2024

Premier League Appearances: 385

Chelsea Appearances (PL): 229

Even now, Ashley Cole is still widely regarded as one of the finest and most well-rounded full-backs in Premier League history. You could put the finest right winger against him, and he would inevitably find a way to keep them quiet, time and time again. After making 156 league appearances for Arsenal, the Englishman made the move across London to play for Chelsea. He was a huge asset for both clubs and helped the pair secure league titles (two for Arsenal, one for Chelsea). As well as this, he was named in the PFA Team of the Year on four occasions.

John Terry

Year Inducted: 2024

Premier League Appearances: 492

Chelsea Appearances (PL): 492

Club legend John Terry is the most influential defender of Chelsea’s Premier League era and one of the competition’s greatest centre-backs. Across 19 Premier League seasons with the club, he captained Chelsea to five league titles, the first in 2005 and the last in 2017. Terry combined aerial dominance, positional intelligence, and consistency while also contributing crucial goals. His total of 41 Premier League goals means he is the best-scoring defender in the competition’s history. Having performed at such a consistent level for so many years, it was only a matter of time before Terry made it into the Hall of Fame.

Eden Hazard

Year Inducted: 2025

Premier League Appearances: 245

Chelsea Appearances (PL): 245

It is a shame that new Chelsea fans will not experience the joy of watching Eden Hazard every week. His disastrous transfer to Real Madrid, which led to his early retirement, makes it easy to forget just how unbelievable the Belgian was. During his time at Chelsea, between 2012 and 2019, Hazard led the league for chances created (595), dribbles attempted (1441), dribbles completed (909) and player of the match awards (62). To save you doing the maths, that dribble success rate works out to be 63% which is extremely high for a winger. His ability to go past players and create chances makes him one of the best attacking players the Premier League has ever seen.

Possible Future Candidates

Cesc Fabregas and N’Golo Kante won the Premier League title with Chelsea in 2016/17.
The Premier League Hall of Fame continues to expand, but entry is reserved for the very best players who made a lasting impact on the league. Here are the former Chelsea hopefuls who have a shot of joining the club in the near future.

Cesc Fabregas

After making the Hall of Fame shortlist in both 2024 and 2025, Cesc Fabregas remains a credible future candidate. Over an illustrious career, the Spaniard won two Premier League titles for Chelsea and sits third on the list for all-time Premier League assists (111).

N’Golo Kante

N’Golo Kante will surely be shortlisted at some point due to his extraordinary impact on the division. He was voted Premier League Player of the Season in 2016/17 after playing a pivotal role in Chelsea’s title win. What could bolster Kante’s claim is that there is no player like him for voters to compare him against. The man had unbelievable stamina and would cover every blade on the pitch. Without his outstanding ability to regain possession, there is no way Leicester would have won the league in 2015/16.

The post Which Chelsea Players Are in the Premier League Hall of Fame? first appeared on Blue Champions.

Chelsea’s modern era can be measured in silverware, but the cleaner reading comes from roles. John Terry set the defensive temperature, Frank Lampard changed what a Premier League midfielder could score, Didier Drogba gave the club a final-day striker, Petr Cech turned clean sheets into routine, and Eden Hazard carried the ball when matches became narrow. Chelsea’s official trophy cabinet now includes 2 Champions League titles, the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, the 2025 UEFA Conference League, and the 2012 win in Munich that still shadows every European night at Stamford Bridge. The five names below do not cover every claim; Ashley Cole, N’Golo Kante, Gianfranco Zola, Claude Makelele, Branislav Ivanovic, and Cesar Azpilicueta all have arguments. This is the modern spine. It also explains why a single league table never captures Chelsea’s last 25 years: the club’s best sides won with low blocks, high full-backs, counterpunching wingers, set-piece pressure, and goalkeeper control.

Terry Made the Box His Office

John Terry was not Chelsea’s fastest defender, and that was never the point. He read the first pass, attacked the first header, and organized the line before the opponent’s No. 10 could turn between midfield and defense. Chelsea’s official profile credits him with 5 FA Cups and 3 League Cups, while his Premier League Hall of Fame case rests on captaincy across the 2004-05, 2005-06, 2009-10, 2014-15, and 2016-17 league titles. A small observation from old Mourinho-era matches: Terry often stepped half a yard toward the near-post zone before the cross arrived, trusting Ricardo Carvalho or, later, Gary Cahill to cover the second contact. He made defending look administrative. In tight matches at Stamford Bridge, that usually meant a first clearance toward the right channel, a reset from Claude Makelele or Michael Essien, and another attack slowed before it began.

Lampard Turned Timing into a Weapon

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea record is still absurd because it belongs to a midfielder, not a No. 9. The club’s all-time scoring list has him at 211 goals in 648 competitive appearances, ahead of Bobby Tambling and Didier Drogba. Lampard’s game ran on repeatable mechanisms: third-man runs, cutbacks from the right, penalty-box rebounds, and late arrivals when the holding midfielder followed the ball instead of the runner. In the 2004-05 title season, his 164 consecutive Premier League appearances for Chelsea told part of the story, but the deeper value lay in availability and end product. The modern Chelsea midfielder is still compared to that standard whenever a season ends with 8 goals rather than 18.

Drogba Owned the Final Minute

Didier Drogba scored 164 goals in 381 Chelsea games, but the number that matters most is still one header at the Allianz Arena on May 19, 2012. Bayern Munich had taken the lead in the Champions League final, Chelsea looked trapped by corners and pressure, and Drogba attacked Juan Mata’s delivery in the 88th minute with the kind of near-post movement he had practiced for years. The later penalty was cleaner than the night itself. A fan reading about an online casino slot during a Champions League archive binge should still see the difference between spectacle and record: Drogba’s case is built on named games, from the 2007 FA Cup final against Manchester United to Bayern in 2012 and the 2009-10 Premier League Golden Boot. The small habit worth remembering is how often he pulled center backs into fouls before the real chance arrived.

Cech Gave Chelsea Quiet Points

Petr Cech joined Chelsea in 2004 and immediately changed the score to 1-0. His official 2004-05 season is still tied to a Premier League record 24 clean sheets in his first Premier League season, while Chelsea’s title-winning side kept 25 league clean sheets overall and a then-league record run of 1,025 minutes without conceding. That 2004-05 team allowed only 15 goals in 38 league matches, a number that still looks severe in an era of high pressing and open rest-defense structures. A matchday phone now holds ticket apps, group chats, score alerts, and sometimes MelBet apk searches, but Cech’s value came from the opposite feeling: no noise after a cross. He caught rather than punched when bodies crowded the six-yard box, and his starting position often killed the chance before the striker shaped up for the shot.

Hazard Carried the Club Between Systems

Eden Hazard arrived in 2012, left in 2019, and gave Chelsea seven seasons of ball-carrying that did not depend on one coach’s system. Chelsea’s records list him with 110 goals in 352 appearances, and his Premier League peak included the 2014-15 Player of the Season award under Jose Mourinho. The recurring pattern was simple enough to notice from Row Z: Hazard received on the left touchline, let the right back get square, then slipped inside toward the half-space before the second defender arrived. Antonio Conte’s 3-4-3 gave him Pedro, Diego Costa, and wing-back width; Maurizio Sarri’s 4-3-3 asked him to solve slower possession. He solved plenty. Even in poor team performances, his touch count near the left corner of the box often told the story before the shot map did.

The Cut Line is Harsh

Ranking Chelsea legends from the modern era becomes difficult because the club has won across distinct cycles: Mourinho’s 95-point machine in 2004-05, Carlo Ancelotti’s 103-goal league side in 2009-10, Roberto Di Matteo’s Champions League run in 2012, Thomas Tuchel’s 2021 European title, and the post-Abramovich reset that still produced the 2025 Club World Cup. Terry, Lampard, Drogba, Cech, and Hazard survive that cut because each changed a specific match problem. Defender, scorer, closer, goalkeeper, carrier. Five roles. Chelsea has had more decorated squads than the 2018-19 Europa League team and more balanced XIs than the 2021 Champions League side, but few players have left cleaner tactical fingerprints than these five.

The post Top 5 Chelsea Legends Who Defined the Club’s Modern Era first appeared on Blue Champions.

Chelsea’s former record goalscorer, Bobby Tambling, has sadly passed away at the age of 84.

Tambling scored 202 goals for the club; a milestone that stood for nearly five decades until it was broken by Frank Lampard in 2013.

He led the line for the first Chelsea side to really enjoy notable success in the 1960s, lifting the League Cup in 1965.

Playing in an era when footballers were pure sportsmen, rather than celebrities, Tambling perhaps never got the credit he deserved for being one of the greatest to ever pull on the famous blue shirt.

Early Years

Born in Sussex at the height of the Second World War, the young Robert Tambling would excel as a youth footballer as England emerged from the ravages of the conflict.

It wasn’t long before he would earn a national call-up, representing England Schoolboys in the 1950s.

As he became a teenager, the interest in signing Tambling to a professional contract reached fever pitch, with Wolves and Reading amongst his principal suitors. Blackpool, who Tambling supported, were also interested in snapping up the young striker.

But a chance meeting with Chelsea manager Ted Drake, alongside his trusty sidekick Jimmy Thompson, convinced the-then 15-year-old that Chelsea was the best home for his talents – it would also mean that Tambling wouldn’t have to move too far from his Sussex hometown.

After a couple of years maturing in Chelsea’s youth teams, Tambling was called up for his first team debut aged just 17 in 1959.

Flying Start

Can there be any better feeling for a striker than scoring on your debut?

The teenage Tambling did exactly that, finding the net in a 3-2 win over West Ham. It would be the first of many goals scored in the blue shirt.

His appearances remained fleeting as he played second fiddle to another Chelsea great, Jimmy Greaves. But when Greaves became something of a trailblazer for English football in 1961 when he headed abroad to join AC Milan, Tambling was promoted to the role of star striker.

It’s a chance he took with both hands…

Between the 1961/62 season and 1966/67, Tambling only failed to score 20 or more goals in a single campaign – his tally of 37 goals in 44 games during 1962/63 establishing Tambling as one of the most prolific goal-getters in the land.

His exploits had not gone unnoticed. A first England call-up followed in November 1962, with Tambling appearing during a 4-0 win over Wales in the British Home Championship.

He scored his only England goal in February 1963, as the Three Lions were defeated by France in Paris, and would have to wait until May 1966 for his next opportunity to represent his country.

Despite playing in a friendly win over Yugoslavia just weeks prior to the World Cup, Tambling was omitted from Alf Ramsey’s England squad for the tournament… and we all know how that turned out.

Curiously, Tambling would never add to his tally of three England caps. He was an extraordinarily gifted striker in an era full of them… a victim of the true ‘golden generation’ of English football.

Chelsea Legend

While Tambling never quite got to make inroads at the international level, for Chelsea he became an instant hero.

At times acting as the club captain, he formed part of one of Chelsea’s first truly outstanding teams, alongside the likes of Peter Bonetti, Terry Venables, Ron Harris and John Hollis.

Chelsea Football Club has very sadly lost one of our most legendary players with the passing of Bobby Tambling at the age of 84.

We send our deepest condolences to Bobby’s family and friends at this difficult time.

— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) June 4, 2026

Together they won the League Cup in 1965, defeating Leicester City in the final, before reaching the final of the FA Cup in 1967 – the Blues would lose 1-2 to Tottenham, with Tambling scoring Chelsea’s consolation goal.

All the while, he was breaking goalscoring records. In September 1966, Tambling scored five times in a 6-2 win at Aston Villa – it could perhaps have been more, with Chelsea boss Allan Harris substituting his star striker for fear of causing more embarrassment.

That five goals in a game remains a Chelsea record, as did the 202 goals he scored for the Blues in all competitions – a feat accomplished with his final goal for the club in 1969.

That would stand for 44 years before Lampard eventually notched his 203rd goal. Tambling revealed at the time that he and the Chelsea midfielder had become friends.

“We have grown close over the last few years because I think we both realised this was a day that was going to come.

“We always have a joke with each other, I say ‘come on Frank, rush along’. And my partner would always say ‘come on Frank, don’t take any more penalties’.”

That record may have been broken, but Tambling remains Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer in league games only, notching 164 times in his distinguished career.

And that’s a milestone that may live on for many more decades to come…

The post RIP Bobby Tambling: The Record-Breaking Chelsea Goal Machine first appeared on Blue Champions.

It’s a World Cup year, which means that once again a selection of Chelsea players will be involved in the summer showpiece.

There have been some surprises, with Cole Palmer cut from the England squad in favour of Noni Madueke – a decision that has raised more than one eyebrow.

Levi Colwill is another who might have fancied a seat on the plane having regained fitness, but in the end Reece James will be the only Chelsea representative in Thomas Tuchel’s squad of 26.

There was disappointment too for Joao Pedro, who – despite notching 20 goals in his maiden season in the blue shirt – has not made the cut for Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil.

There’s better news for players representing two of the favourites to lift the trophy. Spain are the bookmakers’ fancy to hoist the Jules Rimet, with Marc Cucurella almost certainly sure of his place on their plane.

Chelsea will have players representing joint favourites France and Spain at the 2026 World Cup

Malo Gusto (France) and Pedro Neto (Portugal) may also fancy their chances of a deep run, while defending champions Argentina will surely be bolstered by Blues pair Enzo Fernandez and Alejandro Garnacho.

Senegal, Ecuador and Belgium are just some of the other nations expected to have Chelsea involvement in their squad.

Can any of them join the exclusive club of players that have won the World Cup while contracted to Chelsea?

Marcel Desailly & Frank Leboeuf (1998)

France were absolutely outstanding at World Cup ’98; how could they not be, with a squad that included Lilian Thuram, Laurent Blanc, Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane?

Blanc’s central defensive partner for Les Bleus was Marcel Desailly, the man nicknamed ‘The Rock’ who made more than 200 appearances for Chelsea.

A physical powerhouse blessed with tremendous technical ability, Desailly was a mainstay of a France side that romped through their group with three wins from three and a goal difference of +8.

Frank Leboeuf, meanwhile, was a ball-playing centre back before they were trendy. A surname that literally translates as ‘the beef’, Leboeuf was more brain than brawn – although he couldn’t find a way past Blanc in the French starting eleven.

That was until the semi-final, when Blanc was sent off in the second half of France’s clash with Croatia. Leboeuf entered the fray as a tactical substitute for Youri Djorkaeff, joining Desailly at the heart of Les Bleus’ defence.

With Blanc suspended for the final, it was the Desailly-Leboeuf axis that helped France to victory – a clean sheet aiding them to a 3-0 victory over Brazil.

Desailly was sent off in the second half having been shown two yellow cards, but by that point the game was over as a contest – Chelsea now had two World Cup winners in their midst.

Andre Schurrle (2014)

Image by Warrenfish via Wikimedia Commons

There was heartbreak for Chelsea duo William Gallas and Claude Makelele in 2006: they were beaten in the World Cup final on penalties by Italy.

Fast forward eight years and Andre Schurrle (remember him?) was the next Blues participant in football’s biggest game.

In truth, Schurrle barely got a kick in the group phase as the likes of Mesut Ozil, Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze were selected ahead of him.

But after coming on as a half-time substitute against Algeria in the Round of 16, the winger was the game-changer for his side, scoring their opener in what would be a 2-1 extra time win.

Schurrle came off the bench in the quarters against France and in the semis against Brazil: one of the most remarkable games in World Cup history, he netted twice in Germany’s 7-1 humiliation of the tournament hosts.

His status as a super sub was confirmed in the final, where he was summoned from the bench after just 32 minutes to replace the injured Christoph Kramer.

And Schurrle would prove to be the difference-maker in an incredibly close game… his run and cross found its way to Gotze, who fired home to send the German fans into raptures.

Although he didn’t start a single game at World Cup 2014, Schurrle’s legacy as an icon of German football is assured.

Olivier Giroud & N’Golo Kante (2018)

Image by Marco Iacobucci Epp via Shutterstock

Chelsea once again provided France with two World Cup winners, this time at the 2018 edition.

N’Golo Kante was at the peak of his powers during the tournament, with his energy and almost psychic ability to break up opposition attacks vital to Les Bleus’ charge to the title.

Olivier Giroud found his game time limited at the start, but by the end the knockout phase had forced his way into Didier Deschamps’ side with some typically forceful displays off the bench.

France cruised through their group before bumping into Argentina in the last 16, where the two sides would play out a 4-3 epic – Kylian Mbappe’s brace ultimately proving decisive, before Uruguay were despatched with both Kante and Giroud in the team.

A cagey affair with Belgium in the semi-finals was won by Samuel Umtitti’s second half goal, setting up the final with Croatia.

Once again, both Kante and Giroud were selected by Deschamps in what would prove to be a 4-2 victory for Les Bleus – and another World Cup triumph involving a pair of Chelsea boys.

Could any Blues players replicate those successes at this year’s tournament?

The post Which Players Could Join the List of Chelsea’s World Champions? first appeared on Blue Champions.

The difference between the two is rarely the price tag. It comes down to fit, timing, and the willingness to let a player do what he actually does best.

Frank Lampard: The £11 Million Nobody Questioned Twice

Credit: mooinblack / Shutterstock.com

West Ham fans were not exactly heartbroken when Chelsea signed Frank Lampard in June 2001. He’d been booed at Upton Park. That context makes what followed almost absurd. For £11 million, Chelsea acquired a midfielder who would go on to score 211 goals in 648 appearances, becoming the club’s all-time top scorer. A central midfielder. The club’s all-time top scorer.

The reason it worked had little to do with money and a lot to do with Mourinho’s arrival in 2004. Lampard thrived in a system that demanded box-to-box energy and gave him licence to arrive late into dangerous positions. The structure unlocked the player. Observers who follow sports betting markets note how consistently Lampard-era Chelsea were priced as title favorites, which reflects just how dominant that squad became once the pieces clicked into place. He won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, and lifted the Champions League as captain in 2012.

Key reasons the signing worked:

Chelsea gave Lampard a defined tactical role rather than vague expectations

Mourinho’s high press created the exact spaces Lampard had been trained to exploit at West Ham

The squad around him (Terry, Drogba, Cole) removed pressure and freed him to attack

Didier Drogba: The Forward Who Showed Up When It Mattered Most

Credit: mooinblack / Shutterstock.com

Chelsea paid £24 million to bring Didier Drogba from Marseille in 2004. Rival fans spent years mocking his theatrics. What those fans rarely mentioned: Drogba scored in 10 finals for Chelsea. Ten. That figure is genuinely difficult to process.

The signing worked because Chelsea stopped trying to make him into a traditional centre-forward. He was a physical presence, a target, a weapon in transition. His best seasons came when the team played through him early rather than building around him as an afterthought. Drogba won two Golden Boots and scored 29 goals in the 2009/10 season alone. His headed equaliser against Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final, followed by the decisive penalty in the shootout, stands as one of the most dramatic individual moments in the competition’s history.

Chelsea’s global following expanded enormously during the Drogba years, with fanbases growing across Asia and Southeast Asia, markets where the live casino Philippines community and wider sports entertainment audience tracks Chelsea closely to this day. The signing aged extraordinarily well.

Chelsea’s most reliable big-game performers across the Abramovich era shared three traits:

Physical presence that suited English football immediately

Mental strength under pressure rather than simply technical ability

Chemistry with a settled defensive structure that let them focus on attacking

Eden Hazard: The £35 Million That Left for £100 Million

Credit: Cosmin Iftode / Shutterstock.com

Eden Hazard arrived from Lille in 2012 for around £35 million. Seven years later, Real Madrid paid roughly £100 million to take him away. Chelsea did not exactly lose money on that one.

What made Hazard exceptional was his consistency, which tends to get overlooked in favour of highlight reels. In 245 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, he registered 146 goal contributions. No winger or midfielder in that same period matched him. He also created 595 chances across his time at the club — more than any other player during that span. Those numbers belong in the conversation around the best Premier League players of that generation, full stop.

The approach that made the Hazard deal work was straightforward: Chelsea signed him young (21), built around him gradually, and resisted moving him to a different position when he was at his best. There was no squad philosophy forcing him to defend from the front or operate in a system that dulled his instincts. Tracking player output across seven seasons is the kind of statistical exercise now popular among fans on online casino and sports engagement platforms, and Hazard’s numbers hold up against any winger of that era.

Signs the Hazard model succeeded where other big signings failed:

Chelsea signed him at 21 rather than at peak market value in his mid-twenties

The club accepted two to three seasons of development before peak returns arrived

His eventual sale was managed as a business decision rather than a crisis

Chelsea and the rest of the Premier League had to watch on as Arsenal celebrated winning the title on Tuesday night. Bournemouth held Manchester City to a draw, and so, without kicking a ball themselves, Mikel Arteta’s current crop of Arsenal players ended the Gunners’ long, long wait for title success.

It had been 22 years since the club last lifted the Premier League trophy, a wait that was almost unimaginable after the Invincibles season of 2003/04. Chelsea were last champions of England in 2016/17, so their wait is not as long. Although 10 years, as it will be next term, is too long for a club such as Chelsea that has grown so accustomed to lifting trophies.

No Titles But Plenty of Success

It has not, of course, been a lost decade. Since the Blues last won the top-tier title, they have won the FA Cup, the Europa League, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Europa Conference League. Some Chelsea supporters would do well to remember the dark days that existed for much of the 20th century. Completing a full set of the extant UEFA trophies and being crowned champions of the world would be an astonishing achievement for any club.

— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) July 13, 2025

However, while silverware is what really counts, fans also want to see their side consistently challenging at the top of the table. And that is where Chelsea have really struggled in the years since they last won the title. Starting with 2017/18, when they sought to defend their crown as kings of England, Chelsea have finished fifth, third, fourth, fourth, third, 12th, sixth and fourth.

They can finish no higher than seventh this term and could easily finish in the bottom half. Results have not been good enough, and in 2025/26, Enzo Maresca and his replacement as permanent Blues boss, Liam Rosenior, have both paid the price.

Youth coach Calum McFarlane has had two short-term spells in the dugout for the west Londoners, both before Rosenior was appointed, and after he was dismissed. But now the club have made what looks like an excellent choice, installing Xabi Alonso as manager. The Basque was confirmed as the new manager on the 17th of May, but will officially take control on the 1st of July.

Huge Appointment for the Blues

With all due respect to the likes of Rosenior, Maresca and previous appointments such as Mauricio Pochettino, Frank Lampard and Graham Potter, it feels like Alonso is a big step up. All of those bosses had much to commend them and had enjoyed varying degrees of success. But none arrived with a CV as impressive as former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder Alonso.

That the club have been able to get this deal over the line is a big coup, with Liverpool and other big European teams expressing interest. Todd Boehly and co can be criticised for many (many, many) things, but they moved swiftly here and went out and got arguably the best young manager that was available.

Many Liverpool fans, dismayed with results, performances and the style of football under Arne Slot, were optimistic that their club would appoint the Spaniard in the near future. Chelsea beat them to him, though, and it will be especially painful for Reds fans to see one of their former heroes turn round a rival with whom, to say the least, there is no love lost.

Alonso’s Record

Since Boehly took over, by and large, the Blues have gone for youth both on the pitch and in the dugout. Poch was 51 when he was made head coach of Chelsea but all the other managerial appointments (including short-term ones) since then have been in their 40s – or even younger.

The incoming boss will not turn 45 until November, so he fits the mould. However, he has already delivered serious silverware in his time as a coach. As a player, he won just about every prize going during a glittering career that included spells with Liverpool, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich (not to mention three major tournaments and 114 caps with Spain).

His coaching career is in its early days, but already he has managed to guide Bayer Leverkusen to an against-the-odds league and cup double in Germany. His Leverkusen side of 2023/24 were simply sensational, and it was a real achievement to deny the Bayern Munich juggernaut. Not only did he guide the underdogs to the Bundesliga title, but he also oversaw an unbeaten league campaign.

They romped to the title too, by a massive 17 points, winning 28 of their 34 games and drawing the other six. They were (obviously) unbeaten in the domestic cup, beating Kaiserslautern 1-0 in the final and went agonisingly close to an astonishing invincible season.

In their penultimate game of a long campaign, they lost in the Europa League final to an inspired Atalanta side. Even so, they set a new European record for consecutive games without defeat, going 51 games unbeaten, losing just one of 53 by the time the campaign was done.

This feat marked Alonso as the hottest young manager in European football. He resisted the temptation to leave for bigger things and stayed another season, before leaving Leverkusen in May 2025 with a winning rate of nearly 63% over the 140 games for which he was in charge.

Despite winning almost 71% of his games with his new club Real Madrid, the trigger-happy club hierarchy decided to dispense with his services in January 2026. His reputation was largely unaffected by this – Madrid have sacked so many of the game’s best managers that it almost serves as a badge of honour.

What Should Chelsea Fans Expect?

One of the reasons why Alonso seems such a good fit for Chelsea is the way he improved players in Germany. Up against the might of Bayern, he had no choice but to work with what he had and use his own coaching skills to bridge the gap to the perennial German champions. Blues fans will be very excited to see what he can do with their squad, which is packed with young, talented players who have not yet realised their full potential.

Tactically, he is flexible, and he has the intelligence to shape a team based on the players he has available and the strengths of the opponent. Alonso has worked under some of the greatest managers of all time, including Vicente del Bosque with Spain, plus the likes of Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez.

He has learnt much from each of them, and while his teams dominate possession, a la Pep, they attack more quickly, making his style of football more modern. His sides are flexible within games, moving from four to five at the back as required. He is a superb man-manager too, and all told, Chelsea supporters have a lot to be excited about.

The post Is Xabi Alonso the Man to Change Chelsea Fortunes? first appeared on Blue Champions.

Xabi Alonso took the reins at Chelsea as the club’s new manager in May 2026. The Spaniard made his name at Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the club’s first-ever Bundesliga title. After a brief spell at Real Madrid, he’s now heading to Stamford Bridge on a four-year deal starting July 1, 2026, and fans naturally want to know about Xabi Alonso’s Chelsea salary.

Top managers earn big money these days. The right coach can completely transform a club, so Premier League teams are willing to pay up. Chelsea clearly sees Xabi as the man to bring back their glory days, and here’s everything we know regarding Xabi Alonso’s salary at Chelsea.

How much is Xabi Alonso’s salary at Chelsea?

Xabi Alonso will earn £11.5 million (€13m) per year at Chelsea, according to reports. Another source, Rabona Global, puts the figure at £8.6 million (€10m) annually. Either way, it’s a significant pay raise from his previous roles.

Overall, Xabi Alonso’s weekly salary at Chelsea is approximately £221,000 per week based on the £11.5 million annual figure. Using the same numbers, Xabi Alonso’s monthly salary is around £958,000. These figures put him among the highest-paid managers in the Premier League, according to GiveMeSport.

The Premier League’s awash with cash with broadcast revenues reaching billions and new betting sites queuing up for sponsorships. This allows clubs like Chelsea to afford spending big on the right manager. If Alonso’s rebuild clicks, the investment will pay for itself many times over.

Xabi Alonso Manager Salary History

Bayer Leverkusen (2022-2025): £5.2 million (€6m) per year

Real Madrid (2025-2026): £7.8 million (€9m) per year

Chelsea (2026-): £11.5 million (€13m) per year

Chelsea’s willingness to pay top dollar for Xabi Alonso is a defining statement for the team’s future. The club’s financial strategy appears to be shifting, too. Chelsea started the 2025/26 season without a shirt sponsor, but announced IFS AI as its sponsor for the remainder of the season in February 2026, according to ESPN.

With Alonso now at the helm, fans expect more deals to come. A manager of his calibre attracts sponsors, and Chelsea will need every penny to fund his rebuild.

Chelsea’s women (who, from here on, we’ll call simply Chelsea) won the Women’s Super League (WSL) six seasons in a row up to and including 2024/25. In 2018/19, Arsenal won the title, but for three out of four years before that, it was Chelsea who were the best team in the land.

It is fair to say, then, that they have been the dominant force in women’s football in this country for a long time. Emma Hayes was the woman in charge for much of that success, but she left after the 2023/24 campaign to take up the role as head of the USA women’s team.

French boss Sonia Bompastor took over, and it was business as usual as the Blues defended their title. They also won the League Cup and the FA Cup but, as was so often the case under Hayes, came up just short in the Champions League, losing in the semis to Barcelona.

Despite major investment at a number of other clubs in the WSL, many expected Chelsea to win the title once again. However, they look set to finish third, Man City having secured the title with a game to spare. City currently lead Arsenal by four points, with the Blues a further two points back.

Given the Blues went through last season unbeaten and romped to the title by 12 points, it has been a hugely disappointing campaign. They completed a domestic treble last term and won 19 of their 22 games (drawing three), so to win just 14 games this time around is a real shock. And the club are expected to react.

All Games at Stamford Bridge

One big change that we know is going to happen in 2026/27 is that the Blues will, like their male counterparts, play all home games at Stamford Bridge. This was announced towards the end of April and will see the women gain far more support.

Chelsea FC Women will play all Barclays Women’s Super League fixtures at Stamford Bridge from the 2026/27 season.

Never Done.

— Chelsea FC Women (@ChelseaFCW) April 22, 2026

The bridge has a capacity of more than 40,000, while Kingsmeadow, where the women typically play, has just over 2,000 seats and a maximum capacity of fewer than 5,000 people. Chief executive Aki Mandhar said, “We are never done growing and pushing progress to take the game and women’s sports to new heights.”

Quite what impact this will have remains to be seen, because while there may be some very large crowds for certain games, there are likely to be more empty seats than full ones much of the time. Everton’s women moved to Goodison this term, with the men vacating their traditional home to move to Hill Dickinson Stadium, and yet average attendances have been fewer than 6,000. Moreover, results have been poor.

Chelsea and Everton cannot be compared but there can often be a better atmosphere inside a small, tight, packed ground than a much larger, yet sparsely populated one. Moreover, unless a certain threshold is met in terms of numbers, using Stamford Bridge will lose the team money, not generate it.

Bright to Retire

Image by Jose Breton- Pics Action via Shutterstock

Another big change that has been confirmed for a little while is the retirement of club legend Millie Bright. The brilliant central defender has played her final game for the Blues, calling time on a career that has spanned 12 years and brought 20 trophies.

Bright has played 314 times for the club according to their official stats and also boasts 88 England caps. She captained the Lionesses at the 2023 World Cup, guiding them to the final, and was a key part of the team that won the Euros in 2022.

A leader on and off the pitch, she retired at the end of April, having picked up an ankle injury a couple of months earlier in what turned out to be her last outing for Chelsea. She is set to stay at the club in an ambassadorial role, but the 32-year-old’s presence on the pitch will be missed.

Director of Football

Another issue the club faces is Paul Green’s departure. In February, Green, the head of women’s football, left the Blues after 13 years, and they have clearly suffered. Green even took charge, briefly, as interim manager when Hayes had to have hysterectomy surgery at short notice. Green was also said to have played a large role in recruitment.

His departure was a shock and badly handled, and Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, who are co-sporting directors of the wider Chelsea organisation, have been taking a more active role in the women’s team. Their involvement may be behind Green’s departure, but either way, there are real fears that their lack of experience and knowledge of the women’s game has left the club at a disadvantage.

Green was replaced by Phil Radley, and he has no former experience with women’s football. The Blues may need to bring in some real expertise if they are to fight back against the WSL’s many rising powers.

Kerr and Others Set to Leave

Sam Kerr is a Chelsea legend, and at the start of May, she became the club’s all-time leading scorer in the WSL. However, the Aussie is now 32 years old and is increasingly injury-prone. She is out of contract at the end of June and could be headed to the US after announcing that she will be leaving the Blues.

With Kerr on the way out and Bright also leaving, there is a sense of a changing of the guard, with the spine of the great Hayes teams growing old together. Chelsea have spent big in recent years to try and stay at the top, but replacing true club legends is never easy.

Catarina Macario left the club in March, too, so there are some big holes to fill in the squad and a summer of serious spending is needed. Bunny Shaw would be a marquee signing, with the Jamaican set to win the WSL Golden Boot for the third year in a row. She has scored 115 times in 135 games for City, and her switch from the 2025/26 champions to Chelsea could, by itself, be enough to see Bompastor’s troops return to the WSL summit.

There will be many more comings and goings, and while getting Shaw would be a brilliant coup, it is a very obvious one. What club would not sign the FWA Women’s Footballer of the Year from their main rival if they could? The question is, do Bompastor and whoever else guides recruitment have the nous to pick up the other players needed to not just regain the WSL but also do far better in Europe?

The post Chelsea Women Set for Big Changes Ahead of 2026/27 Season first appeared on Blue Champions.

The revolving door at Stamford Bridge has spun once more, but this time, the narrative feels entirely different. Following a turbulent campaign that culminated in a sobering FA Cup final defeat to Manchester City, the Chelsea hierarchy has delivered a true blockbuster announcement. Xabi Alonso is officially the new manager of Chelsea Football Club, signing a four-year contract that will formally begin on July 1, 2026. Supporters tracking the wider Premier League picture, including managerial pressure points and tactical trends, can also follow broader analysis and Premier League predictions through the season at Bettingtips4you as this monumental appointment shakes up the top flight.

For a fan base exhausted by a chaotic transition period that has left the team languishing in ninth place, Alonso’s arrival represents far more than just another tactical reset. It is a profound statement of intent. The Basque tactician brings an elite pedigree, a defined footballing identity, and a level of individual gravitas that Stamford Bridge has desperately lacked. This is the moment the ownership group has chosen to stop experimenting with unproven projects and start building with a world-class blueprint.

The Meteoric Rise and the Madrid Reality Check

To understand why Alonso remains such a highly regarded coaching figure despite a turbulent recent chapter, one only has to look back to his historic tenure at Bayer Leverkusen. In the 2023/24 season, Alonso orchestrated an unprecedented achievement in German football, guiding his side to an unbeaten domestic double and a European record of 51 matches without defeat. His Leverkusen team was a masterclass in tactical fluidity, structural discipline, and collective belief, breaking the decades-long dominance of Bayern Munich.

However, Chelsea supporters must balance their immense excitement with a healthy dose of realism. Football moves incredibly fast, and Alonso’s subsequent move to Real Madrid served as a sharp reminder of how volatile elite management can be. Lasting just eight months in the Santiago Bernabéu pressure cooker before departing by mutual consent in January, Alonso struggled with dressing room dynamics and intense media scrutiny following a sharp downturn in domestic results.

Yet, this setback does not diminish his tactical genius; rather, it provides him with invaluable experience. He arrives in West London older, wiser, and highly motivated to prove that his Bundesliga masterclass was no anomaly. Alonso knows exactly what it takes to disrupt a dominant domestic hierarchy, and that competitive fire is exactly what Chelsea needs to climb out of the mid-table wilderness.

Breaking the Cycle of the BlueCo Era

Alonso becomes the sixth permanent manager of the BlueCo era, stepping into a role that has chewed up and spit out numerous talented tacticians over the last few years. The club’s leadership has spent roughly £2 billion since their takeover, largely targeting young players on incredibly long contracts, a strategy that has yet to yield consistent on-pitch rewards. For a deeper look at how the dugout has evolved during this turbulent period, you can explore the recent history of modern Chelsea managers who have attempted to guide this project.

Perhaps the most significant detail of this appointment is Alonso’s official title. He arrives not as a “Head Coach”—a designation given to recent predecessors like Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior—but as a traditional “Manager.” This subtle shift in nomenclature signals a massive structural concession from the Chelsea hierarchy. It suggests that the sporting directors and ownership group have finally acknowledged the limitations of their heavily centralised recruitment model. Alonso has reportedly been granted the authority to manage the team culture, heavily influence summer recruitment, and oversee foundational aspects of the football operation.

A Tactical Identity Engineered for Youth

What makes Alonso such an alluring appointment for this specific Chelsea squad is his distinct tactical philosophy. At Leverkusen, his preferred 3-4-3 formation relied heavily on controlled possession, suffocating counter-pressing, and dynamic wing-backs who acted as primary creative engines. Crucially, Alonso is not a dogmatic idealist; he has shown a keen ability to adapt his systems to suit the personnel at his disposal, emphasising defensive resilience alongside attacking fluidity.

This mixture of rigid structure and individual flexibility is precisely what Chelsea’s current roster requires. Up to this point, the immense pool of raw talent at Stamford Bridge has often looked disjointed and devoid of a unifying philosophy. Alonso’s meticulous training-ground coaching can provide these young players with the positional framework they need to grow. Furthermore, as a legendary midfielder who won 17 major trophies for club and country, Alonso possesses an instant, unassailable authority. When a World Cup and dual Champions League winner speaks, young players listen.

Navigating a Brutal Rebuild Without Europe

The scale of the rebuild facing the incoming manager cannot be overstated. With Chelsea currently sitting ninth in the table, Champions League football is entirely off the table for next season, and even a spot in Europe’s secondary competitions remains a mathematical longshot. Rebuilding a club of this magnitude without the financial and competitive pull of Europe’s premier competition is a monumental task that will test Alonso’s emotional intelligence and leadership.

The upcoming summer transfer window will be the first true test of this new partnership. The club chiefs are reportedly looking to pivot their strategy slightly, moving away from exclusively buying teenage prospects to targeting ready-made, experienced leaders—including a top-tier centere-back to anchor the defence. Fans eager to track how these structural changes develop can monitor squad updates and pre-season fixture announcements via the official Chelsea website as the July 1 start date approaches.

Conclusion: A New Dawn at SW6

The appointment of Xabi Alonso is a high-risk, high-reward move for BlueCo, but it is undoubtedly the most ambitious and logical step they have taken since assuming control of the club. By securing a manager of his immense aura and tactical acumen, Chelsea have signalled that they are ready to restore the winning culture that defined the club for over two decades.

The road back to the summit of English football will be long and filled with intense scrutiny, particularly as Alonso seeks to rebuild his own reputation after his Madrid departure. But for the first time in a long time, Chelsea fans have a proven, elite football mind leading the march. The pieces are on the board; it is now up to Alonso to execute the grand design.

The post Why Xabi Alonso is a Defining Statement Appointment for Chelsea first appeared on Blue Champions.

After a disappointing campaign, Chelsea head into the summer transfer window with work to do. While there is no shortage of young talent at Stamford Bridge, the squad still feels unbalanced in key areas and is in real need of some more experience. It has been reported that any new signings will wait until the Blues name a new manager, but that should happen sooner rather than later.

Already Joining

It is easy to forget that Chelsea’s squad will already have a few new faces in it next summer, even if there are no further transfer signings. Striker Emmanuel Emegha will be arriving from Strasbourg. Injuries have limited his appearances this season, but there is an expectation he can be an upgrade on Liam Delap, who may well be sold. The 23-year-old’s injury record is something of a concern, however, as he suffered a recurring hamstring problem early in the season, followed by four months out with a thigh injury.

Also making his way from sister club Strasbourg is Mike Penders, following the end of his season-long loan. After impressing in Ligue 1 this season, there is an expectation the youngster can challenge for the number one spot. The Belgian is very comfortable with the ball at his feet, an asset which may appeal to Chelsea’s next manager.

Finally, there is Geovany Quenda, who was signed back in March 2025 in a £40m deal. He missed a large chunk of the Portuguese league season with a metatarsal injury, although this allowed him to spend some time in England. As well as benefiting from Chelsea’s medical facilities, the 19-year-old has been settling in and learning the language. Even allowing for this, though, it is still difficult to see him becoming a regular starter immediately.

How Much Will Chelsea Have to Spend?

Chelsea are confirmed to miss out on next season’s Champions League and the financial rewards that come with it. They may miss out on Europe entirely. This could leave the club hierarchy with somewhat restricted room to manoeuvre unless there are some outgoings. To raise funds for incoming signings, Enzo Fernandez is a strong candidate to depart. The Argentinian has already expressed an interest in joining Real Madrid and would fetch a large sum if the Spaniards are eager to sign him.

Some reports have suggested the club are not in a position where they need to sell anyone this summer, but even if true, this does not mean Chelsea will be able to spend £200m+ again. The club’s most recent accounts showed a Premier League-record pre-tax loss of £262m and they are still operating under a UEFA settlement agreement. Winning the Club World Cup and progressing deep into this season’s Champions League will improve the next set of accounts, but Chelsea need to be careful financially.

Experience Needed

BlueCo have been so focused on signing young talent and high-potential prospects that they have failed to build a balanced squad with the right mix of youth and experience. With an average age of just 23.9, the Blues have the youngest squad in the Premier League by a considerable margin. There has also been a huge amount of turnover in recent transfer windows, with constant incomings and outgoings rarely helping on-field performances.

For that reason, plus some possible financial constraints, Chelsea would be wise to avoid another overly busy summer and instead focus on bringing in two or three experienced players in key positions. Here are the positions where an injection of experience could have the biggest impact.

Centre Back

With three games remaining in the Premier League season, Chelsea have the joint ninth-worst goals-conceded record. Those numbers fall below the standards expected of a team aiming to compete for the top four. If the Blues want to return to the Champions League places next season, improving defensively must become a priority.

The situation will be helped by Levi Colwill’s recent return from injury, as he will benefit from a complete pre-season schedule. The 23-year-old came off the bench in the 3-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest, ending a nine-month absence. Even with Colwill back, Chelsea would benefit from a more experienced defender to play alongside him, and Marcos Senesi, who turns 29 in May, is an ideal candidate. Several clubs are reportedly interested in the Argentinian, whose contract expires in the summer, with Chelsea believed to be among them.

Another player worth considering would be James Tarkowski from Everton. A natural leader and consistently reliable performer, he would provide a safe pair of hands without a huge transfer fee. Chelsea could also continue their strategy of targeting Brighton players by moving for Jan Paul van Hecke. The Dutchman has been excellent this season and would likely slot seamlessly into Chelsea’s back line. John Stones on a free from Man City might also appeal, although like Tarkowski that is a rather left-field suggestion.

Attacking Midfield

In terms of natural attacking midfielders, the Blues are slightly short. Even if Enzo Fernandez stays this summer, he is arguably best deployed deeper in a double pivot. Joao Pedro can play just behind the striker, but he is more accustomed to leading the line. This leaves Cole Palmer, who, as well as often playing on the right, has struggled badly for form this season.

Regardless of whether Palmer rediscovers his best football, Chelsea would benefit from another option in central attacking midfield. Ismael Saibari is one player worth monitoring. Reportedly available for a fee around €60m, he represents a risk coming from the Eredivisie. However, perhaps one worth taking, partly because the Moroccan has shown quality on a bigger stage, scoring against the likes of Napoli, Leverkusen and Bayern in the Champions League this season.

— ESPN NL (@ESPNnl) February 28, 2026

For a slightly less risky option, Mikkel Damsgaard could be an excellent fit. Although he signed a new contract with Brentford in January 2025, the club are not usually known for keeping players who want to leave. If Damsgaard pushes for a move, Chelsea may be tempted to make an approach.

Striker

Joao Pedro has proven to be an excellent addition to the Chelsea squad, but a team with Champions League ambitions and potential midweek European matches cannot rely on just one dependable striker. As mentioned earlier, Emmanuel Emegha will arrive at Stamford Bridge this summer, but an extra option, with a better injury record, would be welcome.

One avenue would simply be to keep Nicolas Jackson after he returns from his Bayern Munich loan. However, it would not be surprising if both player and club looked to move on permanently this summer. Victor Osimhen, who Chelsea attempted to sign in 2024, will likely remain an attractive target, although Galatasaray would demand a huge fee for his signature.

If Chelsea prefer a striker with Premier League experience, Ivan Toney could become an option should he decide to end his spell in Saudi Arabia early. He would not be the first player to return quickly from the Middle East, and his goalscoring record at Brentford suggests he could adapt immediately. He would bring experience and offer real value. However, budget permitting, a more attractive option would be Brentford’s current striker Igor Thiago. The Brazilian has enjoyed a prolific campaign and could well form a good partnership with fellow Brazilian Pedro.

The post Chelsea’s Summer Window Transfer Targets – Where Can the Blues Strengthen Before Next Season? first appeared on Blue Champions.
