They have no idea that none of them are housemates.”

-BB Theme Tune-

*screams in excitement*

Awww, I love the BB theme. It’s just that moment at the beginning where it kind of wipes and then it kicks in … love it. And Davina’s opener, although already known by the press and general media of assembled BB fans who read spoilers, was still pretty exciting. Here is what I wrote:

omg quite a lot to deal with from opening few mins of first episode
im quite shocked already lols

z says she watched it with her dad
embarrasing

OMG
i couldnt cope with that

z: lol i know

my parents would flip and i would die

...

oooo bad times, he mentioned woman and horse
ewww

omg i would NOT want to be those kids
being filmed
what a gross invasion of privacy
hmmmm

gah these advert breaks arent half annoying. in skins you dont notice them, becuase the action is divided into 4 bits for the breaks, but on a dicumentary you want it all to keep flowing

stop bloody introducing everything as if we have just started watching

hmmmmmm
see from a psychological point of view, the research they are condutcing is not the nest way to go about it
and is not ethically sound either

the whole issue over group bias
arg
and social desireability!

i mean, "hands up if you've seen boobs in porn?" there might be one guy who hasn't, for what ever reason
oh i dont want to look like a jerk, ill put my hand up

i applaud the hands on approach, bringing the issue to light etc, well done, but still

i cant help my brain analysing these things from what i have already learnt lol

she just stumbled across a porn site with a video of a child in it ...
hmmmm several thoughts i wish to raise here - some perhaps should be anonymous!

interesting that the men seem to be enjoying the viewing of the freely accessible porn more than the women ..

omg
i can see that these boys are fine with it
but i wouldnt be in this situation
id be soooooo embarrassed at that age
but thats just me [having to look at boobs on a line to find the perfect pair and being filmed]

but the ones in the magazine are not normal, whereas the ones you have been looking at are .. but that guy said they're not normal ... oops

omg yes you interviewed the plastics for the video but ... dont you think 'all boobs have imperfections really' (yes, well done) and 'but dont that just like our bodies?' would promote some kind of response? - in a normal human? or is it just me that already knows this? is it the age thing?

omg full frontal female nudity of teh real life natural models now going down below" as the presenter put it - is the need to shock the children into learning?

"i found it very fascinating to find out that the clit inflates with blood like a penis" - i bet you did, you dirty bugger! lol but in all fairness, is this the reaction most of the kids gave too?

oh i wish these interviewers and presenters knew something about the technology or what they were reviewing
for example, buying a new pc with "adult content filters" would be via software preinstalled

i do know what a router is, she doesnt

(i didnt know you could use a router to filter out porn or adult content or whatever, if you get the "engineer out")
but that isnt the point

im slightly concerned about the pictures of vulvas ... perhaps im already an old fogey who needs to lighten up, this seems to be what the "kids" are seeing now a days? ? ? ?

the teenagers feel the pressure from porn to impress the boys ... becuase this is what the guys (at least the guys surveyed) like ...

Interesting perspective, of course edited for programme but some interesting insights and defiantly things to think about it ... personally and on a bigger scale, both positive and nagative

Thoughts on the New Facebook

I voted 'No' on the official poll
and these are the reasons I posted:

Didn't need changing! After getting used to the old 'new' facebook, I was quite happy with everything, the way it was laid out, the way you had different tabs for different things which separated pictures and status updates etc I was surprised to read you were changing it again, especially after the storm of controversy and unhappy users that created.
Ive got used to the change, and it doesn't particularly bother me anymore, except that it gets slightly confusing and a little of information overload, even though you have made it easier in layout. I do like the highlights section - some good things and some bad things appear here, but my main peve is the middle bit which can get swamped. I don't particularly want to filter anyone out either. I do like the new 'publisher' thing on each page, and the way groups and pages and people look like profiles.
If you were to extend the new design, add how many events one has across the top, with group initiations and application invites ...

Then I ran out of room in the box. Bad times. I hadn't finished what I wanted to say!

... and change the bar on the side, I don't like it! The tabs on the old facebook were much better, as you could seperate groups, links, photos and status updates.

However, saying all this, I have got used to the change and can cope with it, and can't remember the old layout (but this maybe because I use it too much ^^). I generally don't like change and takes me a long time to get used to, especially if the change is unnecessary.

Oh and add a 'Dislike' button :)

I Love Uni Because

I love University because . . .

I have freedom to what i want
when I want
and how I want

and to be who I am

away from my parents

with space

and friends

am responsible for own learning

and can make choices freely

can grow and develop

stay up late and do what ever I like

get drunk

hang out with good friends and be really close to them because I see them all the time and live with them

have good times

meet great people

have great times

<3

Skins, Sereis 3, Episode 2: THE RANT

**May contain Spoilers for Skins (Series 3) (Especially Episode 2) throughout**

OK, so have been soo excited whilst waiting for the new series of Skins, since buying and watching Skins 1 + 2 which I LOVED.
The first episode was poor, it lacked energy, punch and charm, and did little for making me want to like the new characters. It was entertaining, but because of what the characters were doing, and not the characters them selves. They seem to have replaced the old characters with new ones, and are probably going to do the same story lines.

The similarities I have drawn are:

Cook = Chris, Freddie = Tony, JJ = Sid (Boo! Hiss!)
Effy = Michelle (Queen Bee), Naomi = Maxi (Sexuality), Pandora = Sketch? (The weird one!!), Emily = Jal? The other twin would = Anwar out of process of elimination, but I don't think so. (The twins do look like my cousin though lol)

Th introduction of Effy was brilliant, and Cook and Freddie seem Ok. JJ (Or JJJ) is already annoying me - the stereotypical posh, slightly nerdy group hanger-oner, with opinions on 'fun' has been done, and better than the actor who plays him.

The new cast aren't as great as the old ones. Period.
And they set fire to Sid's locker :( :(

Anyway, Episode 2.

After Episode 1, I said I was going to carry on watching them just so I could see what happened, have something to talk about and show my loyalty to the show. At first I hoped it would be amazing, like 1 and 2, if not better, but it wasn't, so I carried on watching hoping and praying that this episode and the series would get better as it went along. They've only just started, I said, lets give them a chance.

Anyway, I tried to stream Episode 2 many many times, and it is either me and my PC, or a problem for 4oD, but it wasn't working, so eventually I started to download it so I could watch it later. (IT TOOK AGES TO DOWNLOAD - literally at least 8 hours. FAIL). Whether this is just because the episode is in demand, or because my PX has issues or just I was downloading in peak time I don't know).

So, I finally got round to watching it, at around ten past midnight, and I'm hoping it shall be good. I have been keeping up with The E4 site with some previews and trailers etc so knew it was going to be about Cook and his birthday party.

Firstly - he is 17? Actor looks much older. Secondly - He has already had a half a bottle of vodka and then does a million shots of tequilla or whatever - and doesn't show any signs of being drunk at all lol?

The entertainment of the party was fun, but it felt like it wasn't contributing to the story. In fact, the whole episode just felt like a massive party - this would be a good thing for Skins, especially since the trailers feature a 'Skins party', but it just felt empty and not linked to the new cast. The introductory episode of 1 has succeeded in showing us what the character are like, but they have failed in making us actually like or believe the characters.

Anyway, the drama continues along, good scene with getting on the boat for the party with the bouncer, but again it is so stereotypical. Blah blah blah - start creating havoc at the party. Great - the food fight and general mess is good - but we still don't care if Cook gets punched in the face . . .

Anyway, so the gang end up in the tunnel after the fight (Great when Cook just laughs on stage) and Effy turns him down - well done. Oh, Pandora on drugs - not believable at all. The fact that they showed them snorting drugs is barley acceptable - yes this is a teen drama and yes it is an 18 and is post watershed - but come on.

Then it starts getting bad. Yes, the whole brothel experience, done by Skins. What fun. NOT. The thing is, I don't actually want to watch the escapades of these new characters. The handjob - verging on the ewwwww. The girls accents = win, love it lol. The nervous guy at the brothel - well done. The kissing - lol.

The next bit I WAS NOT prepared for, and was not ready for what was presented me in that episode - guest star Mackenzie Crook handcuffed with his nipples attached to the electrocuter etc. This was totatlly uncalled for. Also, the violence of the punching in the face was too far, and I had to look away from the screen. No program should make me do this, unless I am scared. I wasn't scared, I was repulsed. The story did not call for this, especially in the second episode, and surely the writers should have found a better way to entertain (or try to) the viewers.
However, the main problem is that they cant justify the drama and the plot and these scenes, because we dont care about the characters! If we had, then it may have been OK, but so far I just feel like we are watching the lives of people, not friends or people we want to care about.

It was so lame.

The episode ended, and I just thought "that was bad - for all the wrong reasons". It wasn't bad as in evil, but was bad as in a let down for Skins, bad as in inappropriate, and bad as in not entertaining. This ultimately is an EPIC FAIL for a show that is supposed to be entertaining, and problems arise as this show is, yes, post watershed, but meant for teenagers. I am normally quite accepting to things people find offensive, as I can see both sides and see the point of view, but at one point I was nearly tempted to actually register a complaint, as so many other people seem to do, which would be a first for me.

Not impressed Skins. Sort it out.

I shall continue to watch the Series, just to see how it progresses, but now I feel its all downhill from here . . .

EDIT: P.S. Oh, and as an after thought - "I'll meet you in the shed! ;) HAHAHAHA

Join my army now!

Join my army now!

Posted using ShareThis

Nicknames

A list of nicknames I have been called past and present.

Luke Warner

Luke

1) Warner
2) Mr Luke
3) lukey
4) lukeylu
5) lukeyluke
6) lucus
7) lucus mucus pucus
8) lucus warnerus
9) lukage

10) luke skywalker
11) luke skywarner

12) nerd
13) nerd warner

14) Deirdre
15) Deirdredoo

16) Paddington

17) Hubby

18)Campino

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Trailers

I recently got confused and entered into a debate with a friend as to how many trailers for HP6 there are. It turns out there are 3, and a teaser trailer which doesn't count as a real trailer (at least not in the eyes of Apple, anyway). So I made a list of the trailers that are available, and where they can be found.

Oh, and to really get you into the spirit, here is a countdown, from the wonderful Mugglenet.

---

Trailer 1 - Train running through country beginning - (Mugglenet lists this as Teaser Trailer, Apple as Trailer 1)

http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/harrypotterandthehalfbloodprince/ (best quality)

=related

or a much better HQ version
here.

-----
Trailer 2/International Teaser Trailer - Cave, from http://www.traileraddict.com/trailer/harry-potter-and-half-blood-prince/feature-trailer

This may take a while to load, after all it is pretty decent quality.

While you are waiting, you may want to view it from here:
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3zf9IW-R5eI

Apple Trailers does not have this version.
----

Trailer 3 - The most recent version - WB logo - Harry and Dumbledore at Beginning:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/wb/harrypotterandthehalfbloodprince/ Trailer 3a

www.harrypotter.com - First trailer that plays

Just to point out: Apple and Warnerbros were very slow in adding the official trailer, it was online at Youtube:

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=lO3DrA1M0Tc (HQ) - Nov 14th
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=pL8RZplmrss&e (cited from Mugglenet, but is not HQ) - Nov 14
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VxVZzAZanLw (with subtitles, HQ) - Nov 14th

Trivia for Bridget Jones's Diary (Film)

Just watched this film. Review coming later. Here is an incomplete list of things I noticed and researched and found out and found interesting (to me) :)

I should explain, some of the trivia about actors arose because I refer to actors as the character I see them first play, and hence if they appear in another film/tv program e.t.c, it is always "he played such and such, that's how I recognise him").

1) Natasha, Mark's friend, is played by the actress who played Miss Honey in Matilda - Embeth Davidtz

2) The actress who plays Bridget's Mother has the same surname as the character she plays - Gemma Jones as Mrs. Jones.

3) Gemma Jones plays Connie in Spooks.

4) Jim Broadbent, who plays Mr Jones - I recognised him from Harry Potter, (he will play Professor Slughorn) and Chronicles of Narnia - he plays professor Kirke. Ah, just found it on IMDB - the most obvious and eluding way I recognised him (his voice mainly) is because he played Percy the Park keeper, a program I used to love watching. Apparently he was also in Brambley Hedge as Basil!

5) Bridget Jones's Diary is based on a book of the same name, written by Helen Fielding. She wrote a sequel called Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (BJ2) from now on). Both have been made into films, and Helen also helped write the screenplay for them both.

6) Helen also helped produce Film 1.

7) The other screenwriters for BJ (Bridget Jones - this is an unfortunate acronym indeed) are Andrew Davies and Richard Curtis. This forms the basis for many many references and more trivia.

7a) Richard Curtis is a very well known screen writer, and has written, amongst others:
- Mr. Bean
- Blackadder
- The Vicar of Dibley
- Love Actually*
- Notting Hill*
- Four Weddings and a Funeral*

He was also fundamental presence in the MakePovertyHistory campaign.

*Significant links to BJ, as you can see below.

7b) High Grant who plays Daniel Cleaver, one of BJ's love interests, has significant links to Richard Curtis -
He plays roles in Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually and Notting Hill (as well as BJ and BJ2).

Working Title Films is the same production company for BJ, BJ2, Notting Hill, Love Actually, FW&AF, and Pride & Prejudice (BBC 2005 TV serial, not Film Version), another film which has very significant links to BJ - see Point 8.

7c) Curtis knew the novel's writer Helen Fielding. Indeed, he has credited her with saying that his original script for Four Weddings and a Funeral was too upbeat and needed the addition of a funeral.

7d) Love Actually, another romantic chick flick comedy same as BJ, was written and directed by Richard Curtis, and also stars Hugh Grant and Colin Firth.

8) The other screenwriter for BJ, Andrew Davies, helped write Pride and Prejudice (1995 TV serial) with Richard Curtis.

8a) Helen Fielding has stated in many interviews that her novel (BJ) was based upon both Jane Austen's work Pride and Prejudice and the popular 1995 BBC adaptation.

8b) This was also reflected in the decision to cast Colin Firth as Mark Darcy in BJ (Yes, the same surname is not coincidence), since he played the 'real' Mr Darcy in the BBC adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. [From Wikipedia, this article]

# When Helen Fielding wrote the novel Bridget Jones's Diary, she based the character of Mark Darcy on Colin Firth's depiction of Mr. Darcy in "Pride and Prejudice" (1995). In addition to the inside-joke casting of Colin Firth as Mark Darcy, there are several other allusions to Jane Austen's story: Mark disparages Bridget to his mother within earshot of Bridget. In Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Darcy disparages Elizabeth to his friend Mr. Bingley within earshot of Elizabeth. Daniel Cleaver lies to Bridget about a dispute between him and Mark, claiming Mark stole his fiancée; in fact, it was the other way around. In Pride and Prejudice, it's a dispute between Mr. Wickham and Mr. Darcy, and Wickham lies about who's at fault. The Darcy in both stories fails to disabuse the heroine's misinformed notion until it's almost too late. Bridget works at Pemberley Press; Mr. Darcy lives at Pemberley estate.

# Both leading actors' names, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant, are mentioned in the book of Bridget Jones's Diary. The first on "Tuesday 24 October" and the second on "Wednesday 16 August".

# Colin Firth is himself a featured character in the book's sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004).

# Aside from bearing a resemblance to Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, the film also features a number of veterans of Austen film adaptations. Writer Andrew Davies wrote the screenplay for "Pride and Prejudice" (1995) (mini), which starred Colin Firth and Crispin Bonham-Carter. Hugh Grant and 'Gemma Jones' both appeared in Sense and Sensibility (1995). And Embeth Davidtz can be seen in Mansfield Park (1999).

# When Bridget stops at a mall to see her mother, she begins the scene by saying (in a voice over) that, "It is a truth universally acknowledged that as soon as one part of your life starts looking up, another part falls to pieces." This is an update of the famous opening lines of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice: "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife." [From IMDB Trivia page for BJ]

8c) There are elements of Four Weddings and a Funeral and even more so of Notting Hill. [From Wikipedia, this article]

Other trivia for BJ, from IMDB Triva Page:

~ Renée Zellweger gained a reported 25 lbs. to play Bridget Jones.

~ Renée Zellweger actually worked at a British publishing company for a month in preparation for the role. She adopted an alias as well as her posh accent and was apparently not recognized.

~ Renée Zellweger smoked herbal cigarettes rather than tobacco.

~ Director Sharon Maguire was the real-life inspiration for the character of Shazza in the novel. A friend of Helen Fielding's, her name also appears on the acknowledgements page of the book.

~ The film has different end-credits in different countries. In Europe, Australia and Latin America the credits show a montage of stills plus "interviews" about Bridget and Darcy with Daniel Cleaver, Mark Darcy's parents and Bridget's boss. In America, they show a young Bridget and Mark running around the backyard and paddling pool in a home video. The "interviews" can be found as the final deleted scene on the North American DVD, as well as the North American credits are found in the 'Deleted Scenes'-material on the European DVD.

~ While film goers were eager to see Hugh Grant play a character opposite to his usual type-cast, it is ironic that original author Helen Fielding describes him, in real life, as being more like Daniel Cleaver, than any of his "normal" roles.

~ In order to make her English accent seem more natural, Renée Zellweger retained it on set even while not shooting (Renée is American). Hugh Grant once noted that he did not hear her speak in an American accent until the wrap party, after the film was completed, where he heard her speak "in a very strange voice" that he soon found out was her own natural tone.

~ After discovering that Daniel is cheating on her, Bridget is watching TV at home. As she browses her channels, a film is shown. It is a scene from Fatal Attraction (1987).

~ While preparing for the role of Bridget, Renée Zellweger worked in a London office. On her desk in this office she kept a framed picture of then boyfriend Jim Carrey. Other office workers, who did not recognize her, found this to be odd, but never mentioned it to her for fear of embarrassing her.

Trivia collected from The Wikipedia Article:

# In the United Kingdom the film grossed a very impressive £41,692,598.
# In the United States the film made $71,500,556.
# The film has made $281,929,795 worldwide.
# Controversial author Salman Rushdie makes a cameo appearance as himself, with both Bridget and Daniel asking him for directions to the lavatory.
# Before the film came out a considerable amount of controversy surrounded the casting of the American Zellweger as what some saw as a quintessentially British heroine. However, her performance is widely considered to be of a high standard, including her English accent.
# Kate Winslet also auditioned for the part of Bridget and was almost considered for it, but eventually was dismissed since she was too young (25 at the time the auditions took place) to play Bridget.
# Renee Zellweger was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in the film.

Monumental Moments in My Life

1) I watched Obama become the first black president of the US, as well as watching how the election unfolded live - I saw the magic numbers chnage that told me he was going to be president - online, at 2/3 in the morning, via BBC/Twitter/(CNN)

2) Lived through change of the millennium, and witnessed the not millenium bug

3) Watched Youtube Live.

4) Seen a solar and lunar eclipse

5) Lived through Girl Power.

CopyMusic from another iPod onto your PC - Windows XP

So, your friend has an ipod with lots of nice music on it, and you want to copy it to your hard drive. How do you transfer music from the ipod to your PC without iTunes erasing your music or their music? Use Sharepod and the following guide and useful tips.

N.B. For Sharepod to work, you need to have Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 installed (and the versions below this), available to download from the links in this article. Sharepod does not currently work with iPod touch or iTunes 8 - you will need to downgrade to iTunes 7 (I am using iTunes 7.7). Sharepod and iTunes cannot be open at the same time! Make sure iTunes is closed before you open Sharepod!

Also, if you wish to transfer music or videos bought from the iTunes store. you will have to authorise your pc to play it, since you didn't buy it. I don't have this problem . . .

This guide is written for Windows XP users. I am using Windows XP SP3, but this should still apply for SP2.

1) Download Sharepod - click save and save it to your desktop. This will save a .zip file. Do not choose open or run or extract it yet! (Firefox users > make sure the default setting is 'Always ask me where to save files' in the general Tab of the options menu).

2) Plug in your iPod (not your friend's one). If iTunes doesn't open, open it now and wait for it to load. Open the summary page for your ipod by clicking on the ipod under devices on the left. Uncheck 'open Itunes automatically' or 'Open iTunes when iPod is connected'. Eject your iPod, and disconnect it. Close iTunes and wait fro it to save your library.

3) Plug your friend's ipod/other ipod into the USB port. Wait for Windows to recognise it as an iPod and install the hardware. When you see the 'Your hardware is installed and ready to use' balloon pop up, go to My Computer and check that you can see the ipod listed on screen.

4) Make sure you have WinRAR installed on your PC. Go to Start > All programs > WinRAR. If it is not installed, download from here and install it. If it is already installed, proceed to the next step.

5) Open the Sharepod.zip folder on your desktop by double clicking on it - WinRar will open. Click once on the SharePod.exe file, and then click on Extract To. Select your ipod device and OK it. Sharepod will be installed on the ipod.

6) Go back to My Computer, double click on your ipod device and then open sharepod by double clicking on the ipod device icon. If everything is fine, Sharepod should open. If it encounters and error before it even opens, make sure you have followed all steps carefully and read the advice at the top of this article! N.B. Sharepod and iTunes cannot be open at the same time! Make sure iTunes is closed before you open Sharepod!

7) To copy all music from the ipod to your pc, click one song, and then press 'Ctrl' + 'A' to select it all. Click 'Copy to Pc'.

Now, here is the clever bit. Assuming that you will want to import all this music into iTunes, and that you will have some duplicate items already on your PC and in our iTune library, set the destination folder (for the muic to be saved in ) in your iTunes music folder, usually located as

C:\Documents and Settings\<Username>\My Documents\My Music\iTunes.

Create a new folder called 'Sharepod', and then OK it to copy the music across. Sharepod is pretty fast, but depending on the speed of your pc, you may have to wait a while. I have copied 6GB in 18 mins, and 7GB in 25 mins.

N.B. You may receive notification that some songs didn't copy - this is probably because they have very long file names. Shorten them, and Sharepod can copy the files for you. (This is because there is a limit on the field names when copying the files and naming them in Windows).

8) When the copy is complete, Close Sharepod and eject and disconnect your ipod (This time from 'safely Remove Hardware' icon in the taskbar.

9) Open iTunes. Now, we need to import all the music into your library, so select File > Add folder to Library.

Select My Documents > My Music > Sharepod (or My Computer > C > Documents and Settings > <Username> > My Documents > My Music > Sharepod) and import everything. wait for iTunes to import everything, and download album artwork etc.

Then on the 'recently added' automatic playlist, select all the music you have just added (the majority of it!) and copy to a new playlist, just for reference. I call this playlist Sharepod, or the name of my friend who lent me their ipod.

Now, go to all music, (The Music tab underneath Library) and then go View > Show Duplicates. Delete every duplicate from the music you added if you have any, from your friends' library, and AS IT IS SAVED IN YOUR ITUNES MUSIC FOLDER, itunes should ask you if you want to delete these files from your PC as well!! say yes, and it means you won't use valuable disk space with two copies of the same song/music, as well as meaning that each song is only listed once in your itunes library!

That's it, you now have Copied music from another ipod and imported it into iTunes!
The below section of the guide offers more information on removing duplicates from your library and PC if it was imported to iTunes from a folder not in the iTunes my Music folder.
---

If, however, you didn't copy the music to a folder within iTunes, and have added it all to your library and have duplicates of the same song, and wish to delete the duplicates from your librabry AND PC easily and quickly, do not fear! There is a simple way to right your wrongs!

First, you need to delete all the music your imported, so you can move it into the iTunes folder. This means that you won't have to relocate each file when Itunes says it can't find it.

Now, just deleting the playlist of all the music you imported won't delete all the music from your library - instead you need to do something clever. In the Music Pane, next to the header 'Name' (the grey bar with the titles of each colon in, such as album, artist e.t.c), Rish click and select 'Date added'. Click 'Date Added' to sort all the music, and then delete all music added on today's date i.e. the date you imported all the Sharepod music!

Then, copy the folder Sahrepod (where you saved all the music too) and Move it to My Documents > My Music > Sharepod (or My Computer > C > Documents and Settings > <Username> > My Documents > My Music > Sharepod).

Once this is done, follow Step 9 again!

:D

Software Review: Browser: Google Chrome

So, Google released a new web browser called Chrome. I followed the hype but didn't rush to download it - I use Firefox so why would I need to? It was only because Youtube started advertising Chrome amongst the videos (Try Youtube in a different browser) that I would decided I would give it a go. So, now I have been using Chrome for some time, I thought I might write a review (and basically compare it to Firefox).

Google says that "Google Chrome is a browser that combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer and easier." I don't know about safer or easier, but it is faster.

Firstly, the install process, walks you through set up in no time, and then cleverly asks you if you wish to import your bookmarks, passwords and other settings from your default browser, i.e. Firefox for me.

University of Gloucestershire Local Freshers Induction

3/08/08

Walked into Stroud to catch Bus with Hannah at 8:35 in town. Got off at bus stop next to park campus on main road, after first thinking that the stop we wanted was literally the one by the first set of traffic lights in Cheltenham, as my parents had said.

Arrived early at Park in Cheltenham, as next bus would have arrived to late for 10:30 start of meeting, so waited in reception area of park. Met lad, got chatting to him course place staying e.t.c. he went to get a drink, and we realised that we didn't know his name! Hannah and I decided that he looked like a John, although he may have a more interesting name, as he was quite fashionably dressed e.t.c. Anyway, he came back from the SU bar from where he was getting a drink, and we were like, oh sorry, we don't know your name, and was like "its John"!!! Crazy or what, but it gets crazier!

John had met girl at bar, introduced as Natalie, and so we got chatting, and found out that she went to Archway, a secondary school local to Downfield where Hannah and I went, she lives in Stroud, and has most of my interests in common. Made a great new friend, but also she was at Francis Close Hall (FCH) AND was staying in my halls! (Hannah is living at home.)

Anyway, when everyone arrived and the event started, we were introduced to the SU person, and we began playing really silly games and introducing ourselves, badly, to everyone. We were split into groups and sat in circles, wrote 5 interesting things about us on cards, put them in a box and picked another card, and then tried to link the card to someone else. Also, we played Cornflakes, where you say something like "I like blue" and people who do have to swap chairs with you, but if someone says 'cornflakes' everyone has to swap! There was also free cookies and drinks, which I heartily enjoyed!

Also played a finance game, like ludo, where you get paid at the beginning, travel round the board and either have to pick up life cards and then get life points, or pay bills, just like uni life. The winner is person who has most life points, and even though I didn't spend all my money on the student ball at the very beginning in the game, I still won. Played with Adam and Charlie and others. Explained about compact schools scheme at the Uog, and what we have to do to get extra bursaries e.t.c Good times, fun and humour, and the game was really fun!

John then walked Hannah, myself and Natalie into Cheltenham Town, a straight lien walk along the road for miles and miles, and we proceeded to chat and shop. Stopped at Pizza Hut for plasters, (John works there) and then went to Boots to get meal deal for lunch via self service. All four of us applied for Boots advantage cards to get four points for every pound on future meal deals e.t.c.

Then decided to walk towards mine and Natalie's accommodation, as John knew where it was and was in his homewards direction! Looked around outside of block and through windows, rooms looked massive but ground floor have bars across windows!

Anyway, realised it was time to go as had to catch bus home to get to work and have tea, so rushed nat and han back to bus on the prom. Got home, grabbed something to eat and went to town, had been shopping and put wallet in pocket, but couldn't find it when went to locker. Panicked, but asked to check car and was fine! Met Jeanette and Rebecca and told them, very excitedly about my adventures! The day was slightly marred by having to do the trolley in the rain for the last hour, but hey, still dam good times :D

Portrait_Project_Sat_222

Portrait_Project_Sat_222
Originally uploaded by Greenbelt Festival Official Pictures
Me in the Greenbelt festival 08 portrait collection!
Exam Results

Final A Level results were received on 14th August and were as follows:

Final Grades: (Highest First)

RE (Philosophy/Ethics): A
English Lit: C
Psychology: C

As Level - IT: A

The grade system is as follows for both A Levels and AS Levels (half an A level):
A (Highest)
B
C
D (Lowest Pass)
E (Lowest)

U (Unclassified - fail!)

These grades fulfil my UCAS offer from the University of Gloucestershire, meaning that in September 08 (around the 14th), I will be moving to Cheltenham to Study English and Creative Writing at the University of Gloucestershire. :)

Heaven in the Morning, followed by Daily Entertainment

Waking up and watching Side B of the first Disk of Series 4 of Friends, and making breakfast - nice Warbutons Bread toast with Cheese and Jam - the smell of The luxurious strawberry jam mixing with my new deodorant smell (Sure Sport: a fresh, revitalising smell), and cheese and marmalade toast! I have 10 statements:

1. Geeks are wanna-be nerds.
2. Nerds can be very preppy.
3. Nerds have fun, most of the time.
4. Nerds can be very popular.
5. Most nerds have a social life.
6. Most nerds get very good grades.
7. Not all nerds wear glasses. If you wear glasses, you're not always considered a nerd.
8. Most nerds don't spend their entire life on the computer. They actually have a life.
9. Those of you who are making fun of nerds.....go ahead. We don't care.
10. A nerd is probably going to be the one who drastically changes the structure of the world.

Point 9 again.

Those of you who are making fun of nerds.....go ahead. Firstly, I know there are loads of different pictures in my 'stream of this piece. I know. Its because I took lots of different angles, and lost of close ups of various parts.

These are the same initials that were written over my old friend, the old blue skull in the Waitrose viaduct. (Viewable here: old skull: flickr.com/photos/lkwrnr/1969270578/ and here: new RIKS: www.flickr.com/photos/lkwrnr/2172786276/ ).

If you closely, (see the notes), you can see something that may have once been some kind of blue skull or demon, or at least was in the style of the old blue skull near Waitrose. Now this is interesting, because of that same skull, 'RIKS' in red and gold has appeared - yes they are a different style to these initials, but they are the same initials, so I am logically guessing that the two are the same person/group?. Now, this leads me to believe that 'RIKS' is painting over the blue skulls /creations with his new 'tag' of his 'RIKS', for whatever reason - he may have originally done the blue skulls / creations, and want to update or he may hate the blue skulls / creations and/or the person who did them and want to paint over them, or he couldn't find any more room for his 'RIKS' or whatever.

Either way, I think this is annoying, as I would have liked to have seen or at least photographed what is beneath the new 'RIKS', as I prefer it, as it is more artistic and this is the kind of graffiti I like. I don't suppose anyone has a photo of what was here before, and annoyingly, I haven't even seen what was here before.
This concept of painting over someone else's art/work/creation/piece annoys me, because I would prefer it if people left the old work there and found somewhere new. Or, if that can't stretch, or promotes people going to 'graffiti' over all buildings, only paint over what is bad, hopefully with something better. Of course, this depends on what one counts as bad and better, and obviously people's opinions differ. So never mind.

Also, I came here a couple of weeks before I took all the photos, just for a quick look around to see if there was much graffiti here. I didn't come up this far to see this piece however, so I didn't see what was here, but If i had come up I would have seen it and would probably have taken a picture on my phone, as I like blue. That would mean at some point I would upload it here to Flickr, and I would be able to see what was there before and so would you. But you can't, and I can't, because I didn't walk a few more steps and poke my head around the corner and come and see this. And that annoys me.

Also, an interesting thing to consider is that 'RIKS' has dated this with 2008, and assuming this to be true, and as I photographed this on the 6th Jan 08, one must assume that 'RIKs' painted/created this 5-6 days before I photographed it. This is interesting, but also annoying. 6 days before I photographed this, there was somethign else here. And now its gone and lost forever, and that annoys me.

And that might be another reason why I took so many pictures of this creation. To remind me (and you! ha!) about how annoying I thought this and other artists who paint over other peoples work are.
Email response to pictures of graffiti/art around Stroud being removed by the group moderator on Flickr.

I just sent this email to the moderator of :this group on Flickr:, (a group in which to post all pictures of Stroud), after he sent me this message:

Dear Luke,

Whilst I am not offended by the graf shots, there have been comments posted about you flooding the group with graf pics. You have just done it again - either you have not read the thread or you don't care. If you want to post pics to the stroud group please be a bit more discriminating - similar shots of the same graf are boring at best and you have already offended some people in the group. You are welcome to continue posting but please bear in mind the other people in the group. I have deleted from the group some of your pics to keep the peace, please don't take offence.

Best wishes,

David.

David,

Firstly, well done on realising my real name lol; some of my friends have had to ask me what 'lkwrnr' means as they haven't realised that it is actually my name!!

I am sorry if I have caused offence in the Stroud group; please accept my apologies on this somewhat sensitive topic, as I seem to have 'offended some people in the group'.

Please bear in mind that I am not a grafittiist, I merely take pictures of other people's work, and then upload them to Flickr. As all of the pictures have been taken in Stroud, I thought it would be OK to post all of them to the Stroud group. I have read the thread and I do care; as far as I can see, your 'About Stroud' section reads as follows:

'Express your Stroudness here, through pictures and comments.
You know this place is beautiful, quirky, and different from all other places. Lets show those shots.'

I believe that my photos of Stroud Graffiti portray this, as I view the pictures I have taken, and the subjects within them as 'art' in a loose sense, as opposed to the graffiti tags that are hideously scrawled over every wall. I recognise that several shots of the same piece of graffiti/art may be repetitive and boring, but I wish to defend my actions in terms of expressing some aspects of what I think represent Stroud.

I would also like to raise the point that I am confused as to how people can be offended over the pictures I have posted - are they offended over the content of the pictures, thinking that these hideous acts of vandalism that ruin their stereotypical view of their lovely town? Or are they offended that I have posted several shots of the same thing? The latter I can understand, and all I can say in my defence is that it is so much easier to drag all the pictures in one set and send them all to a group, rather than diligently picking some. If the people in your group hold the former view; then I believe they are contradicting the other thing I read on your group profile:

‘This group welcomes members who are happy living in a tolerant, liberal, multicultural society’.

I recognise that some people may not like seeing graffiti, even that some people may think all acts of graffiti are vandalism and hence that they are ugly, unwanted acts of intolerance with no reason behind them, but I am opposed to this view, and the view that the pictures I have posted are 'hideous acts of vandalism' as I wrote above.

Just to clarify: I think most of the pictures I posted to this group are works of art, by talented individuals; I certainly could never do something as impressive as the artist 'infinite' has. I believe that although they have vandalised someone’s property, the art they have produced is much more worthy and has much more reason to be on the buildings and on Flickr than an ugly scrawl of 'Disco' or 'Dub' with no artistic content or talent behind it. This is why I posted all of the pictures I have recently taken to the Stroud group.

In response to me 'flooding the group with graf[fiti] pics', I merely hold in my defence the ease of posting all pictures in a set to a particular group e.g. all pictures in my 'Stroud Graffiti' set to the 'Stroud' group . . .

I hope this email clarifies my viewpoint, whilst also defending my position and actions.

Lastly, may I say that I have not taken offence on you removing some of my pictures from the Stroud group for two reasons, one because you are the administrator and have that privilege to do so, which you have used responsively to keep the peace amongst the group members, but also (secondly) because you took the time to send me this email, for which I thank you.

I have taken the liberty of posting this email to the thread on the group forum in which one member has expressed their unrest about my photos, in the hope that this will explain my viewpoint, clear up any misunderstanding, and defend my actions, whilst apologising for any unnecessary stress this has caused.

Oh, in response to yercombe’s comment:
‘While neither for or against it.
What does it have to do with Stroud. There must be a more appropriate group to post this’
These photos are posted in the Stroud group because they are, in fact, taken in Stroud, as I suspect most, if not al, of the photos are. There are more appropriate groups for my Flickr photos to be in; if you care to look at my profile you will see that I have also sent the Stroud graffiti pictures to groups such as ‘Streetart’.

And in response to your comment Dave:

‘I put it down to the impetuousity [I assume you mean impetuosity] of youth.’ I hope that you and your group members are not judging me on the fact that because I am 17 and have taken pictures of graffiti around my town, I must be a graffitist/vandalist/hooligan/yob. I am not. I merely take pictures of things I like, respect, and am attracted to in a photographical sense, and upload them to Flickr. I then send them to groups that reflect the subject or the location of the photographs I have taken.

Best wishes also,
lkwrnr.

A Scathing Review of a Scathing Article

I have just read :this article: and immediatly clicked the feedback link at the bottom of the page and sent them this scathing review:

'I think this is a very biased article, although I recognise it is someone's personal opinion.
It seems to me that the only people who are complaining about the reunion of the Spice Girls is the UK MSN Entertainment team, which does not surprise me. Firstly, you write many articles about how the comeback will and has failed, and then use this story you have created to write idiotic things like 'where did it all go wrong'.

Please bear in mind I am commenting on the content in this page, and not the design.

I find this statement the worst: 'the Spice Girls never could sing, dance, or do anything much other than shout slogans and pout, which is a hell of a lot less charming when you're over 30'.

This is complete tosh.

I am now not going to bother reading the UK MSN entertainment articles advertised so blatantly on Windows Live Today when I sign into Messenger'.

I think that told them?!

understanding

i just want to sit, and read, and play on flickr, and watch comedy dvds, and listen to music, and go to sleep, and eat sweets, and not do naything else

i dont want to go to school and hand in essays that are half finsihed and find more work to do

and then not do it

i dont want homework, and schoolwork

"i want to go back to beliveing in everything, and knowing nothing at all"

but i want to go to uni and get away from it all
and be free

can't wash it all away
cant cry it all away

understanding:

"You hold the answers deep within your own mind.
Consciously, you've forgotten it.
That's the way the human mind works.
Whenever something is too unpleasant, to shameful for us
to entertain, we reject it.
We erase it from our memories.
But the imprint is always there."

(Can't wash it all away)
(Can't Wish it all away)
(Can't hope it all away)
(Can't cry it all away)

The pain that grips you
The fear that binds you
Releases life in me
In our mutual
Shame we idolize
To blind them from the truth
That finds a way from who we are
Please don't be afraid
When the darkness fades away
The dawn will break the silence
Screaming in our hearts
My love for you still grows
This I do for you
Before I try to fight the truth my final time

"We're supposed to try and be real.
And I feel alone, and we're not together.
