Ever since I was young, I've had a difficult time answering the question "What is your passion?" Finally at 32, I have an answer. The reason this question has plagued me is because I am a passionate person at my core. What is passion? I am going to be cliche for a minute and post the definition.

PASSION - a strong feeling of enthusiasm or excitement for something or about doing something

For me, it's not worth doing unless I am passionate about it. If I lose my enthusiasm then it's time to move on. However, there are five passions in my life that have never waned and they are:

MUSIC - When I was four years old, Saturday mornings weren't wasted on silly cartoons. It was what came after them that captivated my attention, Soul Train! Later that afternoon, you could find me in my dance studio (under the dining room table) preparing for my performances. I would slip those jellies on my little feet and perform to an audience of 30+ stuffed animals. They loved to hear me sing to Michael Jackson, The Beach Boys and Starship.

PHOTOGRAPHY - My earliest memory of being a photographer was at five years old. My brother was born that year and he made the perfect model. My mom tells me that my passion for photography started at four years old. Apparently, I kept stealing her camera so she bought me my very own indestructible yellow Kodak camera.

BUSINESS - What little girl's favorite movie is Secret To My Success starring Michael J. Fox? This girl's! Yes, I had a crush on Michael J. Fox. (My little brother's name is Alex for a reason. Yep, Family Ties.) After watching this movie, all I wanted to be was a CEO. At 10 years old I wrote my very first business plan for a summer camp.

SUCCESS - Mine or someone else's. Not many things make me cry (not even my own wedding) but turn on a singing competition where someone is realizing their dreams and I turn to mush. The reason I am in the music industry is because I have a passion for helping people succeed and reach their dreams.

TRAVEL - We traveled (and moved) quite often when I was growing up. We lived all over the south while my mom's family lived in Florida and my dad's in Virginia. New surroundings were exciting and I loved to discover new-to-me things. This still holds true today. I have visited 4 countries and 14 US states. Plans to increase this number significantly are in the works.

So, if I combined all these passions then my ideal career would be a photographer that traveled the country shooting new bands. If you combined all your passions, what would be your ideal career move?

Now that my busy period has passed I am here to remind you that I am still here (or introduce myself for the newbies).

<----------------That's me, Sarah Como.

I lead a fairly normal life in Nashville, TN. I've been married for 11 years and have been successfully able to not get pregnant. I get up M-F and go to a job in the music industry that is interesting a few times a year; otherwise, it's just an excel spreadsheet here... a website update there. The typical. I come home at night to two cats and a dog (other than my wonderful husband). My usual weekend consists of coupon clipping, picture taking (I have some beautiful "stuff" for sale in my store), and a research project on whatever subject I am obsessing over (just for fun) that I never finish. It's not complicated, just the way I like it. However, I tend to be silly and dramatic when I am not being serious and task-oriented. You know, whatever I feel like being at that moment.

What's this place on the internet, Simply In Bold?
Simply In Bold is a place to encourage you to be a better bolder version of yourself and embrace whatever helps you do that. For me, it's music and photography. The right song or photograph can change my entire outlook on the day or even how I approach a situation.

As you saw last Monday and today, I brought back "This Week in Music". I research information on music every week so I may as well help someone by sharing it. Music is one of my greatest passions and I miss talking about it. I am going to bring back all the music talk, but with a disclaimer since I work in the music industry (all opinions on this blog are MINE!). Plus I have really good taste in music so I am doing everyone a disservice by not sharing. Right? I thought so.

(BTW, my Spotify playlist, Americana, My Heart, hit 1000 followers today! Woo Hoo! Check it out here.)

I hope you stick around! Is there anything you would like to know about me? I'd love it if you'd ask below. Inquisitiveness is encouraged here!

Over the past three years, I've spent time observing and studying successful people. Three points on the timeline stick out on nearly every person.

#1 -- DAY ONE
An idea/goal arrives and successful people do not waste any time putting it into action. My studies show the timeframe for going from idea to action is an average of four days. So, just go for it!

#2 -- YEAR FOUR
From day two until sometime into year four or five, persistence is crucial. Your interest wanes. Frustrating problems occurs. "The man" gets you down. This is when 80% of people give up (for whatever their reason). The sad part is people often give up right before their hard work is about to pay off.

#3 -- YEAR TEN
Congratulations are in order for making it to year ten. Years five through ten are spent honing your craft and perfecting what you do. You are now an expert in your industry.

Persistence is the biggest factor in success. Yes, you must be capable, but you don't have to be amazing from day one. There is plenty of time to utilize that learning curve. Focus on what you want, take action and never give up!

At my job from hell (one day I will tell that story), the mailroom supervisor had the above quote posted on her wall for all to see. My initial reaction to this was "Wow, why do they let her keep that up? That's kind of rude and screams 'I'm not a team player'".

Let me just tell you a little about me... I am a team player who will do practically anything regardless of the sacrifice to achieve a goal especially one of which I am passionate. I was a firm believer that if your co-worker needs help and you can give it then you do. No question. If I see something needs to be done then I do it regardless of whose "responsibility" it is. We are all moving toward a common goal. If we get there then does it really matter how?

The answer is... YES. Actually, it's a resounding yes.

Why? (Beware, sports analogies follow...)

#1 - Let's say the center fielder (that's baseball) is out there looking at the clouds or picking flowers then she is not prepared to catch the ball. A ball is hit and it's going straight for the one person on the field that is completely unprepared for it. The left fielder runs with all her might over to center field to chase after the ball. Center Field realizes what happened and spouts a simple "Thanks" before going back to watching the clouds. Center Field wasn't embarrassed or ashamed because she doesn't care. So now what happens the next time the ball heads her way? Center expects someone else to come bail her out.

Why did Left Field work so hard to try to cover for Center Fielder? Left Field wants to win the game, so somebody had to cover for the center fielder that isn't as interested in winning or even playing.

LESSON: If you bail someone out (more than once) then you become an enabler and they will continue to take advantage of you.

#2 - The position of Center Field exists for a reason. If only Center Field would fully do her job. Center could do it way better than anyone trying to cover for her. If someone else was able to do it well then there would be no need for that position.

LESSON: If you are 'Center Field' then get off your ass and do your job. If you don't then you will eventually lose your position. Either you will be replaced, they will figure out they don't need your position at all, or the team could be shut down all together.

#3 - If the situation in #1 happened during a baseball game (in anything other than Tee Ball) then Center Field would be benched or even fired by the coach. What happens when the coach continues to allow Center Field to pick flowers and not be prepared? Left Field becomes resentful. Why should Left Field have to do the job of two people? Eventually, depending on Left Field's resolve, she will stop caring about the team. One of two things will happen: She becomes totally jaded and stops caring all together OR she leaves. Neither is good for the team.

LESSON: Leadership is everything. If the coach is terrible then the team will be terrible. If you are the leader then address the situation immediately. If you are on the team and you see your coach allowing poor behavior then find a new team asap! Don't stay long enough for it to negatively affect you.

Are you Center Field or Left Field?
I get super excited about something and obsess over it for about two weeks then something else catches my attention and I move on. Rarely do my projects (non-work related) ever get completed. At 14, I begged my mom to paint my room this icy blue color. She bought me the paint and all the supplies and told me to go for it. I painted and painted and even invited over a friend to help me. Then I lost interest and only fully completed two walls. The third was complete except for an one foot strip from floor to ceiling. The fourth wall sunk back where the closet was. It was completely painted except for the part that set back and the closet doors. It stayed that way until I went off to college.

Looking at my life, I see this pattern over and over again. I jump from photography projects to blogging to DIY projects... and the list goes on forever. I would love to post DIY How-tos on here, but I can't because I rarely finish them. In fact, there are 38 incomplete posts in my drafts folder. I struggle to post regularly on this blog even though I LOVE it! (In fact, I put off posting this for almost two month.)

Can you relate? In my attempt to overcome this life-long struggle, here is...

Five Tips for Finishing What You Start

#1 - Reach way down inside and figure out what gets in the way.

For me, it is many reasons, but the biggest is perfectionism. If I don't have the perfect photo then I can't publish the blog post. If the right phrase doesn't pop in my head, then it stops me in my tracks. Once my perfectionism makes me pause then that creates room for other ideas. Off I go on another project.

#2 - Be determined.

Decide to complete the project or goal. Fully commit to it. Put reminders on your fridge, desk, or wherever to help you stay focused.

#3 - Don't take on too many projects at once.

I don't know about you, but I can only focus on two or three projects or goals at a time. If I put too much on my plate then I get easily distracted or overwhelmed depending on the day.

#4 - Celebrate the little milestones.

Break the goal or project down into smaller parts. Celebrate as you go. This one stumps me because in my head I feel like finally I completed that little part so hurry to the next one.

#5 - Know thyself.

Cheeseball, I know. How many of us have ever started a project because someone else wanted us to do it or we felt like something we were "supposed" to do? Yep, all of us. Bloggers often feel like they are supposed to do weekly fashion posts of their outfits. If fashion isn't your thing then don't post it. Many photographers feel like they are supposed to do portrait shoots and weddings. Only start projects or make goals that you are passionate about. If you aren't passionate then you will find it difficult to finish.

Do you have any tips to add?

Playing the Game

When I read blogs, they often feel like the same posts over and over again. Buy this, love this, make this. I often wonder "Is the most difficult part of her day choosing which shoes to wear?" Because she makes it sound like it's a really hard decision. Then I keep reading because she's funny and those shoes are totally cute!

Being transparent and vulnerable are scary and can hurt. I spent years necessarily playing my cards close to my chest so now I instinctually bluff even when I have a good hand. I hold those cards so tightly that sometimes I even miss my turn to play them. When I am being completely honest (here or elsewhere) it is often vague. I wish life wasn't a game. I wish that I could be 100% honest and transparent 100% of the time with everyone.

My goal this week: Let go of some cards...

Anyone relate?
"If you believe in yourself then others will too."

I read the book #GIRLBOSS by Sophia Amoruso in under 24 hours. For someone who strictly reads magazines and blogs, this is big news. #GIRLBOSS was just that good. There were all kinds of nuggets that spoke to me. I wrote down quotes as I went along so I can be continuously inspired. One quote that significantly stuck out to me was "If you believe in yourself then others will too". It was like Sophia knocked me in the back of the head. If you doubt yourself then other people will sense it and doubt you too, so it has to work the opposite way as well.

As a teenager, I was 100% confident and self-assured in my abilities. As the years have gone by and shit happened, it started to wane. People started to get in my head. So-and-so doesn't believe that I can handle that promotion, so maybe I can't. (I got it and rocked it btw.) I am underpaid so maybe I am not worth more. (A-hem, if you work hard and kick ass, then you are always worth more.) The thoughts go on and on. If you notice, I stated something positive and reassuring after each negative thought. This is to combat them, so they don't overtake me!

This week, let's work on combating each negative thought and truly believing in ourselves. We can do anything we set our minds to. It definitely won't be easy, but that makes it worth it.
June was the best month!

A photo I took was used in an article on Musicrow.com and it was on the main page.

CMA MUSIC FESTIVAL
The Hubs and I took my mom downtown to the CMAfest. We only did the free stuff, which there was less of this year than in the past. They have several stages and we watched numerous performances. I took my camera, but somehow had no camera battery. What a major fail, so here is a picture from last year. :(

IBS - UGH!
Anyone out there deal with Irritable Bowl Syndrome? I have a very mild version, but the hubs is severe. Unfortunately we didn't know exactly how bad it was until now. Without being too graphic, he basically spent a week in the bathroom. He couldn't eat anything other than applesauce, rice, and bland chicken for five days. If he tried then it was back to the torture chamber. The past three weeks have been spent trying to figure out what he can and can't eat. We have figured out that he is basically fine being on a Paleo diet minus broccoli and onions. If you have any tips, then we will gladly take them!

BONNAROO
Going to Bonnaroo was life changing. I know that sounds weird, because it's just a music and arts festival. I have been to many of them and even went to Bonnaroo last year. But this year was different. It was amazing and life affirming and I am having trouble finding a way to explain how it impacted me.

People watching was the best there, except when a 60-year old topless lady walked by, but anyway. People were courteous and watched out for each other. Yes, there was a lot of drinking (even out of sunscreen bottles. Hello, Always Sunny.), odd smells (Were there skunks on that farm?), and "oh, that pill must be aspirin, right?" (Don't worry, I'm not that naive... now). Once of the most awesome moments was when Zedd performed. We watched from the outskirts of the crowd and when the beat would hit people would throw glowsticks and such into the air.

Watching Jack White perform from side stage may be the coolest thing that has ever happened in my life. He directs his band throughout the show which I have never seen before with a big show like that. Usually shows like that are well rehearsed. Everyone knows what song comes next, what to do and where to be. Jack White changes it up. I bet every single performance he does is a little bit different than the last.

A sea of people attended Jack White's performance. Literally, it was backed up to the entrance. Just standing on stage alone was worth the trip. Getting to see with my own eyes that many people (80,000?) gathered together to see one person perform. Truly breathtaking.

Shovels and Rope are one of my all-time favorites. I have seen them perform several times and they blow me away each time. As the guy behind me stated a million times "Two people? All that from two people?" Granted he was drunk off his ass, but right, nonetheless. At one point, I thought they were going to start having sex right there on the stage. It was like they were singing for each other and don't mind the audience, they are here to watch. If they ever have marital problems, no one tell me. I would be crushed.

Lone Bellow was the best performance of the entire festival. They do not hold back. You can feel their emotion when they play and the way they engage their audience should be a lesson to everyone. They tweeted one of my photos from the performance. Another photo win!

Unfortunately, I didn't close out my Bonnaroo 2014 experience with Elton John because by the time I got to that area, no more people could fit. I did hear "Candle in the Wind" with everyone singing along. Not making it to Elton John was totally worth it because I stayed for the Super Jam with Ed Helms. So much happened in that hour that I probably should do a post only on that. Let's just say that it was amazing. They ended with everyone coming back on stage and singing Dirty Dancing's "Time of My Life". There were couples all around doing the lift (you know what I am talking about) and people went nuts!
IPHONE ONLY PHOTOGRAPHY

David Molnar is on a mission to improve everyone's cell phone photography so that we can show the world the beautiful things we see. I took his iPhone Only Photography webinar and learned so much in only 45 minutes. I didn't know the pictures from my phone could be so beautiful. To learn David's secrets go here to buy his book or to keep an eye out for his next class. Best season finale ever! Watch it. Enough said.
What are your plans for July? Fireworks and work for me :)

I don't know who Ashleigh Brilliant is but this statement is brilliant. After a long and amazing weekend at Bonnaroo (details forthcoming), I was exhausted. Monday morning, I had to be at meetings starting at 10am. Last night while sitting in my Italian language class, I couldn't keep my eyes open or focus on what she was saying. Since the class was for fun, I left. As soon as I got home, I went to bed. That was like 8pm folks. For someone who regularly goes to bed at 1am, that was super early for me. This morning I slept through my alarm and didn't roll out of bed until 9am. That is 13 hours of sleep!

Last night, I felt guilty for leaving class and going to bed so early when my to-do list is a mile long. I laid there thinking "I should be doing..." and "Don't forget about...". Honestly, the best thing I could have done for myself was take a complete rest. Today, feeling refreshed, I am 100% more productive than I even could have been last night. Sometimes, resting is necessary...
+ A great lesson from Breanna Rose. Don't burn bridges, people.

+ If I could, I would copy Annabelle's outfits on a daily basis.
+ I don't 100% agree with this post, but I totally agree with the premise. It is much easier to achieve your dreams when you have a support system.

+ It always interests me how the USA is different from other countries and what immigrants think about us. This author of this article brings up some points that I didn't realize could be unique of our country. I especially find culture differences interesting since I have family in Italy.

+ What am I obsessed with this week? Happy Socks! I love colorful, fun socks. At work, I am all business on the outside and fun underneath. These are my favorites: Blue and white stripe with a red toe and heel, turquoise with big pink dots, and finally a classic pink five color sock with black bottom, yellow top, light blue toe and heel. Plus at $12 each, they all will be mine! Muh-haha.
Last Christmas I searched and searched for some colorful "manly" socks for the Hubs. I failed. Not this Christmas! They have Men's Socks too! (Don't worry. It will still be a surprise. He only reads my blog when I ask him to edit.)

+ For the entrepreneur, what to do when you feel like giving up! We all have felt this at one point or another. Your quest could still be an idea. Don't give up before you have started!

What good stuff have you found this week?

As many dreamy-eyed teenagers, I had a plan for my life. It was detailed too, but I will spare you today. Let's just say that my life did not go as planned. Not even close... well some parts were close, but not close enough. The life events that steered me off course weren't all bad. Marriage wasn't in the plan. It didn't even make it to the notes page. And yet, I got married at 21. Other life events were devastating to my naive young self and when things didn't go according to my plan then I made poor decisions. I let it get me all upset and my decisions were rash. So, here I am at 32 where I planned on being when I was 25.

However, at 32, I accept myself and where my path has taken me. I am no longer upset about it. I still have dreams and plans, but am much more flexible. Learning to yell "Plot Twist!" and keep moving forward has been one of the greatest lessons I have ever learned in my life. The key being to keep moving forward.

"...because you never know who a person is or who they will be."

"Be kind..." could be finished in many different ways, but today I have chosen to finish it as above. I see it all the time and in all facets of life. Some people will only be nice if they feel they can benefit from that person. Great people get overlooked and even mistreated because they aren't the most popular, rich or highest on the totem pole. Unfortunately, their treatment is often based on assumptions by the other person. Not only is it rude, it is also insulting.

The business world is tough. Just because you reach a certain level of success it doesn't give you the right to be inconsiderate and entitled. Over my career I have seen the lowest man on the totem pole rise to become the rude supervisor's boss. Man, did that bite him in the butt. That receptionist at the front desk might be the only one willing to help you, but if you treat her like she's unimportant then good luck getting what you need.

I look younger than I am and I'm a woman. I have had people be rude to me and then turn around and ask for the person-in-charge. The joke was on them because it was me!

People don't forget you when you mistreat them. You never know who they will be one day. Be safe and just be kind to everyone. Plus it's the right thing to do.
GODZILLA

Godzilla was never anything I was interested in watching, nor was I forced to watch it (unlike many war movies, thanks Dad). When the Hubs told me he wanted to see Godzilla at the movies I agreed, but was indifferent about it. Well, it was great. The special effects were really good. I was probably at an advantage by not knowing anything about the old movies. I was confused at the beginning when the "non-Godzilla" monsters were shown. I always thought the people tried to kill Godzilla. I didn't realize he fought other monsters.

YARD SALE
Some people like to see the sunrise, but we have a love/hate relationship. Plus, it was unseasonably cold. Good news is we got rid of a whole lotta junk! We sold things for super-duper cheap (.25 - $2) and ended up with $119 dollars at the end. Thank you for taking my junk and I get to cross one item off my 32 before 33 list!
Parlo l'italiano un po'. I only have three classes left so I better make the most of it.

FLEA MARKET
The Nashville Flea Market is the largest, strangest, best yard sale. No, really. It's huge. There are over 200 vendors that sell things from antiques to collectibles to shoes and even bar-b-cue sauce. I bought a red metal bucket to put in my home office. The Hubs bought a Terminator action figure (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and some Batman comic book. We had a alternative purpose for going this month. We were selling tickets to the Americana Music Association's Cross County Lines dayfest. It happened yesterday and I will get to it. We gave away CDs and goody bags and made people's day.

WORK
This month I poured myself into the Americana Music Association. I worked way more than usual, but it was totally worth it. I organized a super-duper important project and it went over really well. We are still waiting for decisions to be made, but we are crossing our fingers that the not-for-profit association will get extra funding. Working on that project, promoting the Americana's Cross County Lines, and working on the balloting and nomination ceremony didn't leave much time or brain-power for my other endeavors. Thus the lack of posts on this here blog and other self-employment projects were neglected. Hopefully, one day I will be able to narrow my focus.

AMERICANA HONORS & AWARDS NOMINATION CEREMONY
The aspect of my job I love the most are the events. On May 12th, we announced the nominees for the Americana Honors & Awards show that will happen on September 17th. Click here to see the nominees. What are my predictions this year? As much as I want Robert Ellis to win in his categories, he's the underdog. Album of the Year - Southeastern, Jason Isbell. Artist of the Year - Rosanne Cash. Duo/Group of the Year - The Avett Brothers. Song of the Year - "Ohio", Patty Griffin. Emerging Act of the Year - Parker Millsap. Instrumentalist of the Year - Buddy Miller (per usual). If I was allowed to vote, then my votes would definitely go to Robert Ellis, Hard Working Americans, and Parker Millsap. If you don't know them then look 'em up. Totally worth it.

Can you spot me in this picture? (Hint: I am against the far wall)

AMERICANA'S CROSS COUNTY LINES

Last night was the Americana's Cross County Lines dayfest featuring John Hiatt, Patty Griffin, Brandy Clark, Ashley Monroe, Joe Pug, Parker Millsap, and Luther Dickinson. It was on a farm in Franklin and just gorgeous with green grass and a barn that embodies "Americana". Since it was on outdoor event we were worried about rain. It rained from 3:30-4:15 and stopped for the rest of the night. The event started at 4:30 so it was right on time. I got halfway drenched (my front was under a tent but my back/butt got soaked). My favorite of the night had to be Parker Millsap with John Hiatt at a close second. Parker is a young guy with lots of energy and John is a recognizably seasoned performer. Before this event, I thought Brandy Clark was "okay", but after seeing her perform I am a fan. Here are a few pictures. Hope to see you there next year!

A lot of people showed up!

Joe Pug performed on the acoustic stage. There were two stages so music was constantly going. Genius idea! Favorite song - "I do my father's drugs"

Ashley Monroe. Even prettier in person.

The inside of the barn was beautiful. Smelly and hot, but beautiful!

I was obsessed with Patty Griffin's Flaming Red album when I was 17, Obsessed!

John Hiatt stole the show! He closed it out with his biggest hit "Have a Little Faith in Me".

Coming in June: CMA Festival, Bonnaroo (hopefully), the Hubs birthday, a going away party, and even a baby shower. Possibly the busiest month yet! What do you have planned for June?
+ Maleficent and A Million Ways to Die in the West both open this week. How will I ever choose? Sunday afternoons were made for difficult choices like this. Which would you choose?

+ My best work friend swears by Argan Oil. I keep putting off trying it despite that my hair is crying out for it. Kaelah from The Clueless Girl's Guide tells us all about Agadir Argan Oil Hair Products. Now I really want to try the shampoo and conditioner too. Have you ever tried it?

+ Photography has been my hobby since I was a tiny kid. Last year I finally purchased my first DSLR camera and I am in love. This year one of my goals (before I turn 33) is to buy a new lens. I either want a long zoom lens or a prime lens. Now thanks to Mandi, I know all about prime lenses and am sold. All the prime lenses, you will soon be mine! Ha, ha, ha (that's my evil laugh).

+ I am guilty of at least five out of these seven stupid ways smart people sabotage their success. Oops!

+ These dog photos by Elke Vogelsang are THE BEST! One day when I grow up I want to be a pet photographer (amongst other things).

+ Obsessing over the aqua and red color combination has been filling my evenings. I have gone pin crazy and made the decision that my office WILL be redecorated with this inspiration. You just wait.

+ When I am not obsessing over paint colors then I am scouring Etsy for home decor. Fellow Photographers may appreciate these items I found. Deciding between these throw pillows is going to be difficult! (Top Left, Top Right, Bottom Left, Bottom Right) Geez, I'll just buy them all!

This is not good. On my list, the hardest things are the most rewarding, such as improving my photography, growing my business or posting on this here little blog. Isn't it amazing how quickly life can get away from us? So here is my kick in the pants:

My busiest time of year is just around the corner. It's filled with concerts, family time, hiking, blogging and of course work, work, and more work. I run a home business plus my hours will increase at my office job. I love this time of year, but it is easy to wear myself too thin. For the next 4.5 months, I have to be intentional about where I spend my time and what takes priority.

How do you manage your time? What takes priority in your life?
Not everyone is made from the same mold. Don't try to fit yourself to someone else's mold. Instead make your life fit to you. If you are a dreamer then be a dreamer. Pair a dreamer with a doer and it can change the world.
It's my birthday!

Many bloggers do birthday lists of things that want to do before their next birthday. My first reaction to this was "No way! 32 is too many." Apparently this is just the challenge I need. So here we go:

<strike>Take a trip to Detroit.</strike> Completed

Hit 1000 followers on Simply In Bold. (Started at 300. Currently at 500+)

Become debt free except for my massive student loans.

Build a solid set of stock photography.

Camp under the stars with my husband.

<strike>See a firework show.</strike> Completed 7/4/14

Learn to make risotto.

Have 3-6 months worth of expenses in my savings.

Catch a show at TPAC.

Develop a wardrobe that helps me feel confident.

Go on a day trip.

Be a supportive wife by attending a comic convention with my husband.

Develop healthy eating habits. (Ahem, limit my sugar intake.)

Go bike riding.

Archive my favorite photos from my childhood.

<strike>Have a yard sale.</strike> Completed 5/17/14

Learn to screen print.

Run a 5K, literally. (No walking!)

Finally go to the Frist Center for the Visual Arts.

Back up my best/favorite photos to Flickr. (Get them off my old computers! Eek!)

Read six non-fiction books.

Be able to hold a conversation in Italian.

Post daily to Instagram.

<strike>Sell something I made.</strike> Completed 8/29/14

Learn to make Gordan Ramsey's signature Beef Wellington.

<strike>Get a pedicure (I am 32 and have never had one. What?!?)</strike> Completed 6/28/14

Wear more dresses (so more than twice a year). (Currently at five)

Pick fruit from an orchard.

Go to a Nashville Sounds game.

<strike>Buy a new camera lens.</strike> Completed 9/23/14

Go a full day without watching television.

Live life boldly!!!

Life can get away from us so easily. Get up, go to work, come home, make dinner, do chores, go to bed, and repeat. We must be deliberate in how we spend our time. Every day make time to do something you love even if it is only for 10 minutes. It will keep you happy and in touch with who you are.

I am a planner, a very detailed planner, but rarely do I ever follow my own plan. My Plan A always fails, but probably because my plans are way too strict with astronomical expectations. For example, my fitness plan has me in the gym every Tuesday morning at 7:45am. When I showed my plan to my husband, he chuckled under his breath then encouraged me to go for it. He knows that I am not a morning person. Why in the world did I think it would work? Well, I thought that I could overcome my morning aversion because fitness is important. I ended up feeling like a failure and giving up completely. Total overreaction, I know. Lesson learned: Know yourself then make a plan that supports you.

When Erin from Living In Yellow invited people to join her in the #1800MinuteChallenge, I thought I can totally get on board with this. The concept is simple and completely doable. Complete 1800 Minutes of physical activity during April and May. That's it. I can do whatever I want, whenever I want. Walk the dogs for 15 minutes one day and hike for two hours the next. Whatever, it all counts toward the goal. It is much different from the rigid schedules I usually make and I like it.

Here are your hosts:

Erin from Living in Yellow // Alissa from Alissa Circle,
Emily from The Freckled Fox // Alycia from Crowley Party

Here's what you need to know:

1. You will want to sign up to be a part of the challenge just so the hosts know who is joining in on the fun (and so that you have a chance to win the amazing grand prize at the end of the sixty days). You can register here.

2. Starting April 1st, you will be responsible for tracking your own progress. Don't worry, Erin's gotcha covered. After signing up for the challenge, you will receive a spreadsheet via email which will allow you to quickly track and total your minutes!

3. Throughout the challenge use #1800MinuteChallenge on Instagram or Twitter so that those of us also participating can follow along and cheer you on. Make sure to follow @livinginyellow, @alissamcircle, @thefreckledfox and @alyciagrayce for occasional workout ideas, their favorite playlists, and extra tips + tricks on how to get your 1800 minutes in!

4. At the end of the challenge (May 31st) those of you who have completed all 1800 minutes will email Erin your spreadsheet [livinginyellow@gmail.com]. On Monday, June 9th one winner will be drawn to receive the #1800MinuteChallenge grand prize. It's still a secret on what you will be receiving but don't worry, they will fill you in on the details as time goes on. Keep in mind that the best prize of all will be how great you feel and look at the end of the challenge. The prizes will just be the cherry on top ;)

Hi, I am Shadow! I just want to tell you that I love my mommy so much. She is the best. She is almost better than when I steal beef jerky or play fetch. Every morning when I hear the alarm go off I start calling her through the bedroom door, but I don't understand why she won't let me crawl all over her pillow and run in circles while she sleeps. As soon as that bedroom door opens (usually by Dad because Mom is not a morning person) then I dart over to the bed. Sometimes Mom still has her eyes closed and ignores me, so I kiss her on the nose until she acknowledges me with a "Good Morning, Kitty". Next, I like to paw at her arm until she lifts the sheet so I can crawl into bed too. I lay right up next to her and always close enough to give her more kisses. We lay in the bed for a long time until Dad complains and Mom gets up. I follow her to the bathroom and sit on the counter while she gets ready for the day. I like to interrupt her by leaning and pawing at her until she picks me up. For that she gets more kisses. What comes next is the worst. She leaves for what must be a year. When she finally gets home I am usually asleep, but as soon as I realize she is there then I jump up and demand her attention some more. Well, gotta go knock things off the countertops. Bye!

Man, that bratty cat. He is always demanding my attention. Isn't being loved so terrible? No, seriously, he has taught me a lot about how to love. So, here we go...

FOUR LESSONS OF LOVE MY CAT TAUGHT ME

LOVE UNCONDITIONALLY
No matter how grouchy I am in the morning, Shadow always comes back the next day. He immediately forgives me for knocking him off the bed or shooing him away. However, he expects the same from me. I can pop him for knocking my drink off the table and he will be back in my lap five minutes later. This is the most common lesson learned from pets and definitely worth it.

GIVE WHAT YOU WANT TO RECEIVE
When Rory and I were newlyweds, I used to get so upset that he wasn't giving me as much affection as he did before our marriage. I would get mad and sulk (Because, you know, that makes a man want to be close and hug you, right?). If only Shadow had been there to give me advice. When Shadow wants my attention, he gives me attention. He doesn't sulk and wait on me to come around. He finds me and makes it happen. Honesty moment: I hate to admit it, but on a daily basis if you add it all up Shadow probably gets more attention than Rory. Rory gets enough, so he doesn't mind. This lesson isn't just for relationships, but it is also true for friendships. All my life I have listened to "Friend A" complain that "Friend B" never calls her to talk or asks her out to lunch. Funny thing is that "Friend B" has the same complaints. If you want to talk to someone, just call them. If you want to go to lunch with someone then just ask them. Let's not overcomplicate things or be too sensitive... just sincerely give to others what you want to receive in return.

PLAY TOGETHER
Firstly, you are never too old to play and have toys. Let's just get that out of the way. Shadow will be nine years old this year which is like 52 in human years and it hasn't slowed him down a bit. He loves to sit on the back of his favorite comfy chair and grab people (and dogs) as they walk by. Even after all these year it still makes me jump and laugh. Shadow also loves to play fetch and attack mirrors.

This was supposed to be an Instagram video, but it had an error. I thought it was lost forever, but luckily Google auto-backed it up as a gif thus the weird play symbol in the middle. I am just glad I have it. It took a really long time to catch him doing this. As you can see once he looked at me in the mirror and realized I was watching then he stopped.

Sometimes he will chase me through the house and lick me when he catches me. He makes me laugh and he loves it. Playing together definitely adds to the bond.

LISTEN EVEN IF YOU HAVE NO CLUE WHAT IS BEING SAID
Yes, I talk to my cat. According to this site, cats can understand 25-35 words. I think they know more than that, but don't let on the way that dogs do. I am very consistent with words and intonation when I speak to my pets. For example, I use "get down" when they are somewhere they are not allowed, "Out" to leave the room or area, "drop it" when they have something they shouldn't, etc. Yes, cats can be trained and they do listen. Sometimes mine act like teenagers by back-talking and staling, but ultimately they do what I say. Occasionally, the crazy cat lady in me comes out and I say more than commands. I don't think I have ever "confided" in my cat (not judging if you do) but I do talk to him. And, he actually listens. I know that he doesn't have a clue what I am saying, but he turns his ears to me and sometimes will come nuzzle me. Rory likes a lot of nerdy things that I just don't know anything about. Over the years, I have learned more about comic books than I ever cared to know. Regardless, I listen because comic books are something that he cares about. Lately, I have been racking up bonus points by asking clarifying or follow up questions! Yes!

Do you have any lessons to add? Most importantly, I want to see pictures of your kitty cat(s)! I might just have to do a follow up post to share all the cuteness! Please leave your links below.
I am not one to follow trends or jump on bandwagons. Actually I am usually the opposite. If it's popular then I have a natural aversion to it. I guess that is the hipster within. Moving on... The hashtag #100happydays kept popping up in my Instagram feed. I didn't know what it meant, but I was glad they were happy. Then Elsie from A Beautiful Mess posted that she was going to start the 100 Happy Days challenge. I was thoroughly intrigued. So, I looked it up.

100 Happy Days is a challenge to help you "to appreciate the moment, the environment and yourself in it". I can get on board with that. According to the website, people who successfully completed the challenge claimed to:
- Start noticing what makes them happy every day;
- Be in a better mood every day;
- Start receiving more compliments from other people;
- Realize how lucky they are to have the life they have;
- Become more optimistic;
- Fall in love during the challenge.

SOLD! You had me at "better mood".

Honestly, I am hesitant to start this challenge. In college, everything made me smile from the birds to the clouds to the shirt I was wearing that day. Life happened and the natural pessimistic emerged and I am having trouble putting it away. Also, I am extremely task-oriented and am concerned that I will just flat out forget to take a picture of whatever made me smile. According to the site, 71% of participants don't actually complete the challenge. That's a big number. But, guess what? If it were easy then it wouldn't be a challenge. Obviously, I need this. I start tomorrow!

I would love for you to join me on Instagram. To start your own challenge, go here and sign up. It serves as extra accountability. Plus, you will receive a 100 page book with your 100 photos when you finish. It would make me happy to see what makes you happy! Please comment below on your choice of social media platform with your username. I would love to follow along in your challenge!
