Acoustic Roots comes to the Bluecoat, Liverpool this Friday!
on Friday 3rd September @ 8.00pm with acoustic and slide guitar genius
TOM DOUGHTY with support from the local Liverpool legend Stan Ambrose

Tickets £8/£5 available from the Bluecoat 0151 702 5324 www.thebluecoat.org

With his unique approach to guitar and his vocal interpretations of traditional and his original tunes, Tom has managed to create music that is all his own – honest and right from the heart. The music just flows.” Woody Mann, New York

2009 saw Tom release his third album ‘Have a Taste of This’ which further showcases his song writing skills with tracks like ‘Zimbabwe’ and the haunting ‘Nobody’s Fault’. Released to critical acclaim like his first two albums (which have been featured on national radio and played worldwide), ‘Have a Taste of This’ sees another stage in the continuing development of this remarkable musician.

‘Defining Tom as an Acoustic Blues guitarist is too small to convey the range of moods and styles in his playing.’ Jim Gillan, RocknReel Magazine.

Or to put it in the words of Michael Prince in a recent review,

“Tom’s music is organic and free. A must see performer”

WILL TANG
“Blues”
(Zen Music – ZM01010)

With the exception of the final track, the thirteen tracks of this album were all recorded live in Hong Kong – three in 1998, three in 1999 and five in 2002. The final track was recorded at Parr Street Studios in Liverpool in 2004. In the words of Rochdale-born singer/harmonica player Will Tang on the cover notes, most of the recorded performances were spontaneous and improvised with nothing (including the lyrics) worked out beforehand.

Alongside some rambling efforts that underline the unplanned nature of the recording sessions, there are some excellent tracks that showcase Will Tang’s impressive harmonica technique and the superb guitar playing of Patrick Murdoch. The opening track, “Walkin’ Around” is a rousing rocker that boasts fine embellishment on harp and guitar and a tasty bass line from John French. Other highlights are “Liddle Stella”, an acoustic shuffle, and the funky edged “She’s Mine”. There are also four slow blues, of which “Make My Way” is particularly attractive with more excellent solos on harp and guitar.

Given the spontaneous nature of the recordings, the album is almost inevitably of variable quality. Nevertheless, there is an abundance of instrumental artistry to demonstrate the considerable talents of both Tang and Murdoch.
