Will and Crystal decided to have their engagement session around English Bay, close to their apartment. They spend a lot of time walking around the area so it made perfect sense to meet them there and capture some memorable moments.

It was a sunny but cool day and we found plenty of spots for some great pictures. English Bay isn’t a place we’ve been to much in the past for photography but after this visit I think we might try to include it more often!

Minh and Valerie decided they would like to head up into the snow for their engagement session. So, we took them to Cypress Bowl for some fun in the sun! If we’d have stuck to the original plan it would have been fun, or lack thereof, if the freezing rain but thankfully our rescheduled day was absolutely perfect!

The Vancouver Club is a beautiful downtown venue mixing modern taste and sophistication with an old school charm from when ladies were ladies and gents were gents.

Kevin and Ksenija’s wedding was held in the Georgian Room which is so exquisite you really don’t need to decorate it… at all!

Before we got to the Georgian Room we met upstairs with Ksenija for some getting ready pictures in her room. It was just her and her sister which was totally fine since the rooms at the club, or at least this one, are very small :)

Then it was time to head down for the ceremony to join an intimate gathering of close friends and family. The service was short and sweet and when it was over we took the couple away for some pictures in and around the Vancouver Club. We didn’t stay for the reception but the setup was beautiful and I’m sure the couple had a great night to follow!

Our first engagement session of 2012 took us out to Granville Island which is probably our favourite spot for wedding photography. There’s so much there to see and do there with no end to the photographic opportunities on hand.

As with most of our clients, Phil and Jasmin were a little shy at first but soon got the hand of being in front of the camera and even produced some really stunning looks and poses for us to capture. Couple that with the great lighting that day and I think you’ll agree we came up with a really awesome set of images!

Gabriel & Suyin’s wedding was our last of 2011! What a way to go out for the season! The day was full of laughter right from the very beginning! We began in Coquitlam at Suyin’s parent’s home. We took some getting ready shots while we waited for the guys to arrive. They had to perform a series of tasks to the satisfaction of the bridesmaids if Gabriel wanted to get to Suyin. The tasks involved disgusting food and good old humiliation but the boys powered through and Gabriel was able to get to his bride!

Following the fun and games was a tea ceremony and lunch before we all headed out to the Coquitlam Calvary Baptist Church for the ceremony. It was an intimate gathering of close family and friends and I think everyone was deeply touched by the proceedings.

When we were finished at the church we took the wedding party to New Westminster for some shots down by the quay. We hadn’t shot wedding photos there before so we were interested to see what was available. I have to say, we were really impressed! The scene down there is pretty awesome with plenty to see and do and really great for photography.

We stayed there for an hour or so and then drove to Richmond for the reception at Shiang Garden Restaurant. Another first for us but a very nice place for a wedding reception and we’ll look forward to going back there soon!

We always love a trip out to Swan-e-Set Bay Resort and Country Club. It’s quite a long drive from the office but well worth it! If you haven’t been out that way before you should. The scenery is absolutely beautiful and you couldn’t ask for a better golf course setting.

We met Mike & Elizabeth quite early as they wanted to go around for pictures with the wedding party before the ceremony. The weather was perfect for both photography and golf cart racing! Those mighty little machines made it possible to cover a lot more ground than we would have done walking and enabled us to travel all the way out to the main gates for pictures.

Once our time was up we headed back to the club for the ceremony. It was a wonderful wedding with a select group of close family and friends in attendance. The proceedings were supposed to happen outside but with the possibility of rain they were moved inside at the last minute. I have to say, I kinda prefer shooting the ceremony inside :)

We shot some family photos outside following the ceremony and then took the couple away by themselves for half an hour or so before the reception began. The weather held out nicely the entire time which really made a difference to the day. It just wouldn’t have been the same had it rained!

The reception was terrific. The food was excellent and the couple provided plenty of entertainment for the guests which included a series of games involving willing (and unwilling) participants from the guest list.

Ken and Ingrid’s wedding was our first visit of 2011 to the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club in Kitsilano. It’s a great venue for weddings, out by the water with the North Shore mountains providing the backdrop!

Our day actually began downtown though when we met with the girls for some getting ready pictures at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. The rooms there are beautiful so it’s always easy to capture stunning shots of the dress, shoes and everything else that goes on before a wedding! If you’re a guy reading this you’ve probably no idea what we’re talking about. Take it from us… the girls actually spend a lot of time getting ready for a wedding, not just on the day but for weeks in advance. For them, it’s not just a case of getting out of bed, throwing their outfit on and running a comb through their hair! The guys have it good!

Anyway, back to this wedding! After finishing up at the hotel we all made our way to Kits for the wedding ceremony and reception. Both were held at the yacht club before an intimate gathering of close family and friends.

As always, the reception food was fantastic… especially the dessert table! What do you do if there are to many choices? Try one of each… ’nuff said.

Warren and Sumiyo got married out of town but decided to have a big wedding reception in Vancouver for their local friends and family. They opted for the beautiful Renaissance Hotel in downtown Vancouver and what a fun time it was! The couple included all the important elements of a wedding reception… fun, emotion, family, friends and a chocolate fountain!

Before all this kicked into gear we began the day upstairs with some getting ready pictures of the girls. It was a wonderful suite and we’d photographed in there before so we new what to expect. Warren and the guys were waiting outside on the street so once the makeup had been applied and the hair perfected we all went down to meet up. The plan from here was to visit Stanley Park for some pictures of the bridal party so that’s exactly what we did! The weather was threatening to be unkind but thankfully it held out and there was even a bit of sunshine for us all to enjoy! We had a really fun shoot in the park and managed to travel around quite a bit before running out of time. Back to the hotel!

The reception began with Warren and Sumiyo making their grand entrance to the loud applause and standing ovation of everyone in the room. From there they cut the cake and went straight into their first dance. After that it was all fun and frolics and yes, we did get to try out the chocolate fountain… several times :)

A wedding season in Vancouver is never complete without a trip to the Chapel in Queen Elizabeth Park! This time we were shooting the wedding of Peter & Stephanie who had travelled up from Oregon for the occasion. We had met the couple for the first time just a couple of months earlier when we shot their engagement session at the Dr Sun Yat Sen Chinese Garden in Vancouver. That was a fun shoot and we were treated to nothing less on the wedding day too!

The day began in downtown Vancouver at the Metropolitan Hotel for some getting ready shots of the couple and their families. Peter and Stephanie didn’t wish to see each other at the hotel but due to time constraints between the ceremony and reception we planned to do a first look session at Queen Elizabeth Park. That went beautifully and as usual there were lots of curious onlookers to help add to the occasion!

Before the ceremony we took Peter and Stephanie around Queen Elizabeth Park for a photo session in the gardens. I’m glad we did that as there was so little time for that after the ceremony and we wanted to use that for family shots anyway.

The ceremony was very intimate and absolutely beautiful. There were some great readings from family members and some interesting stories about how the couple came to meet.

The reception took place next door at Seasons in the Park Restaurant. Peter and Stephanie did things a little differently and went straight into their first dance after making their entrance. Once all the nerve wracking events were over they were able to enjoy the reception and not have to worry about the dance later on… a good idea if you ask me!

Our final engagement session of 2011 took us to Granville Island to meet with Mike & Peggy. The couple were here on a visit from Calgary and it was a real pleasure to show them around one of Vancouver’s most iconic attractions!

The weather was perfect for an engagement shoot, warm and not too sunny! We hadn’t met Mike & Peggy before and didn’t even know what they looked like. As we approached the meeting place we saw a nicely dressed couple underneath a big bouquet of balloons and thought “That has to be them!”. Of course, it was them and the balloons made an awesome prop for the session!
