The North American Grappling Association (NAGA) is the world’s largest mixed grappling tournament circuit with over 50 annual tournaments and 145,000 competitors worldwide. It was held in the ESSEX COUNTY COLLEGE (MAIN GYM) 303 University Avenue, Newark, NJ 07102. This is our first appearance at this tournament. One of the things I liked about this tournament is that there was an emphasis on keeping the rings going at all times with very little time between divisions. This seems to be a trend now at most Martial Arts Tournaments. I HATE EMPTY RINGS, because that’s a sign that we will be at a tournament all day long. I must say that this tournament appeared to run smoothly, except for a few hiccups it appeared there were one or two rings out of 12 that had significant time lapses in between matches, especially ring 11 the female divisions.

It was incredible to see that many competitors and spectators in attendance. Announcers verified that they had a larger turnout then ever before. Many top competitors were in attendance including some amazing youth under belts. Some of the action was intense as these young athletes were fast and explosive as they performed techniques to submit and counter submissions. What I thought was amazing was the amount of adults over 35 competing in the novice and beginner divisions. The techniques that they were performing with ease is usually seen in the younger divisions.
Gracie Jiu Jitsu competitors from the Bayonne Martial Arts Center attended and Triumphed as follows:
Ryan Colon competed in the 15 yr old Novice Cruiser Weight division No Gi and Gi divisions, He also was asked to compete in the 16 and 17 year old divisons and stepped up to the challenge:
Ryan Colon took 1st place in the 14 and 15 year old Cruiser Weight Gi division and 3rd place in the 16 and 17 year old Cruiser weight Gi division.
Jessica Jimenez competed in the Womens Gi middle weight division and won both of her bouts in exciting fashion by submitting both of her opponents one with an arm bar and the other with a rear naked choke. taking first place in her divison.
Will Toolen competed in the Over 50 heavy weight division and took second place.

The benefits of yoga are strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, balance, happier moods, decreased back pain, Better focus at work, more energy, improved sleep, weight loss circulation, stimulate the abdominal organs, and put pressure on the glandular system of the body, which can generally results in better health. Practicing Yoga can reduce the stress you feel and give you a feeling of Mental Calmness: Yoga is great for releasing stress because it places emphasis on being in the moment and learning not to dwell on past or worry about the future. In addition, yoga requires you to concentrate on engaging yourself in the pose. Yoga also introduces you to meditation techniques, such as watching how you breathe and disengagement from your thoughts, which help calm the mind. You will leave the yoga class feeling less stressed than when you started. The amazing thing about yoga is that as you continue to practice you will always be evolving and changing, so it never gets boring. Although the poses themselves do not change, your relationship to them will. You can practice yoga any where any time, even if you don’t feel like you are very flexible or very strong. These things will improve the longer you practice. Another great thing about thinking about yoga is that it encourages the noncompetitive spirit of yoga. One of the most difficult, but ultimately most liberating things about yoga is letting go of the ego and accepting that no one is better than anyone else. Everyone is just doing their best on any given day. CLASSES ARE FORMING, SO SIGN UP NOW!!! Call 201 710 0560 or EMail us go to our contact page on this web site.

The 2012 Don Nagle’s AOKA Inc World Open Karate Championships as usal was held at Marist High School, Bayonne NJ. The tournament actually started on time. Once it started it ran very well despite the additions of new divisions almost every hour, and with very little breaks in between the start of each new and additional divisions. This is a big plus with a lot of competitors that hate slow running disorganized tournaments. The tournament started off with a Prayer, playing of the National Anthem and a moment of silence for Christopher Freney 6th Dan who passed and was a dear friend to most Karate ka and a fixture at the Bayonne High School Karate League. Despite the economy there was a pretty decent crowd, much bigger than expected. Who knows if the economy was better we might have seen more competitors. The 2012 Don Nagle’s AOKA Inc World Open Karate Championship is one of the finest tournaments on the torunament circuit as well as in the area. Congratulations go out to Ralph Passaro 9th Dan for sponsoring the event and Dennis Hoare 8th Dan for orgainizing the event. Congratulations go out to Dennis Wright for his promotion the 9th Dan.
The students from the Bayonne High School Karate League and the Bayonne Martial Arts Center were really impresssive their Kata were powerful and their technique was near flawless, these Karate Ka appear to be very well rounded martial Artist, and may be comining into their own. The Instructors at the Bayonne High School Karate League are Tom Clarkin, Paul Kawalski, William Toolen and Keith Marsh. The Instructors at the Bayonne Martial Arts Center are William Toolen, Keith Marsh and Diane Deptula with Guest Instructor Tom Clarkin

In the Brown Belt Young Adult Division Arman Sandhu placed 3rd in Kata (Forms) and 2nd in Kumite (Sparring Match)
In the Adult Orange Belt Division Jason Arnone placed 3rd in Kumite (Sparring Match)
In the Super Junior Division Orange Belt Ryan Colon placed 3rd in Kata (Forms) and 2nd in Kumite (Sparring Match)
In the Super Junior Divison Green Belt Mena Hasaballa placed 2nd in Kata
In the Super Junior Division Orange Belt Christian Cooper placed 1st in Kumite

The judging was very good and I heard almost no complaints from the competitiors or parents. If there was the arbitrators for the tournament did a great job of settleing any disuputes.

Overall, the tournament ended at a decent hour which made everyones trip home that much better.
