Jonathan Sanchez was simply just making a start on Friday evening in place of the injured Randy Johnson, who is on the 15-day DL with a left shoulder strain.

Turns out, Sanchez ended up pitching the game of his life.

The 26-year old southpaw tossed a no-hitter last night for the San Francisco Giants during their 7-0 win over the San Diego Padres from AT&T Park, as his father Sigfredo was in attendance from Puerto Rico to watch his son pitch for the 1st time.

It was the first no-hitter for the Giants since September 29th, 1976, as John Montefusco no-hit the Braves during San Francisco’s 9-0 win.

Sanchez became the first pitcher to throw a no-hitter since the Chicago Cubs’ Carlos Zambrano did it on September 14th, 2008 against the Houston Astros.

He is also the first southpaw to toss a no-hitter since Boston’s Jon Lester did it against Kansas City on May 19th, 2008.

Interestingly enough, Dave Righetti is the Giants pitching coach & threw a no-hitter on July 4th, 1983 for the New York Yankees in their 4-0 win over the Boston Red Sox.

After getting to the Eastern Conference Finals in 6 of the last 7 years with Rick Carlisle, Larry Brown & Flip Saunders, the Pistons have decided to hire someone with no previous head coaching experience.

54-year old John Kuester will take over as the Detroit Pistons’ new head coach, as he will try to revive a team that suffered a disappointing 1st-round playoff sweep in April to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

He has been part of a winning team before, as Kuester was on Larry Brown’s staff in 2004 when the Pistons upset the heavily-favored Lakers in 5 games to win their first championship in 14 years.

Detroit has already made a commitment to get more younger & athletic, as they lost free-agent forward Rasheed Wallace to Boston & have replaced him with forward Charlie Villanueva & guard Ben Gordon.

Kuester had previously spent the last 3 seasons as an assistant under Mike Brown for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

A trade rumor is being discussed that could possibly send 2-time All Star forward Carlos Boozer to the Chicago Bulls.

Tyrus Thomas could be headed from Chicago to Utah, while Kirk Hinrich would go from Chicago to Portland.

Boozer would give the Bulls an established frontcourt scorer to start alongside Luol Deng & Joakim Noah.

If the trade becomes official, newly signed guard Jannero Pargo will take over Hinrich’s spot as the backup to 2008-09 Rookie of the Year winner Derrick Rose.

After Thursday’s trade, Mark Cuban might’ve turned his Mavericks into a offensive powerhouse once again.

Dallas acquired 4-time All-Star forward Shawn Marion on Wednesday in part of a 4-team deal that also saw Jerry Stackhouse go to the Memphis Grizzlies.

Kris Humphries, Nathan Jawai & an undisclosed amount of cash will go from Toronto to Dallas, while Greg Buckner goes to Memphis to Dallas.

To complete the deal, Antoine Wright & Devean George will both go from Dallas to Toronto.

The deal now gives Dallas a lethal lineup which already includes of Dirk Nowitziki, Josh Howard & 2008-09 6th Man of the Year winner Jason Terry.

Jason Kidd is also a nice option, as he re-signed with the Mavericks on a 3 year deal worth $25 million.

Marion does bring a proven player with postseason experience to Dallas, as he has scored 17.1 points in 65 career playoff games, all with the Phoenix Suns.

The Matrix’s deepest playoff run came during the 2005-06 season, when Phoenix was knocked off in 6 games by his new team in the Western Conference Finals.

Stackhouse could soon be reunited with ex-teammate Allen Iverson, as Memphis is looking to sign the 10-time All-Star guard to a 1 year deal.

In his first public comments, Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade said that he’ll make a long-term commitment to the team only if they build a championship contender.

Wade also added that making the playoffs “is not enough” and vowed to listen to the Heat before making his well-thought decision.

Since winning the 2006 NBA Finals against Dallas, Wade’s Miami Heat have gone just 102-144 (.415) with a pair of first-round playoff losses to Chicago & Atlanta.

Dwyane is coming off his best NBA season, as he totaled career-highs in points per game (30.2, led NBA), blocks (106), steals (173), assists (589), made three-pointers (88), made field goals (854) & minutes played (3,048).
