by ron (Posted Fri Aug 15, 2014 1:50 pm)
Ive been having problems with my cars ATC coming on even when car is out of gear and at a standstill, tried putting matched pair of tyres on the back , that made no difference, in the end i bought a multi meter and checked the rear wheel sensors , found no readings on the right hand driver side and the passenger side should show something like 0.9 ohms but this kept going up and up to over 5.89 was when I turned it off. I looked on ebay and found a pair for £19.34 free postage they gave a list of OEM numbers, I rang my BMW Stealer's asked for the part number and how much from them Nearly had heart attack coz they charge £90,00 +vat Each !!!! ok so I checked the part number with the Ebay numbers found no match gave them a bell they said they didn't know why there wasnt a match but suggested a particular number was for my car, I then got onto my local motor factors they had the sensor's and cost £55.00 inc Vat a bit better but still to dear for me , I asked for their InterMotor part Number just 4 digits I then Google'd that number and to my delight it came up with BMW rear wheel sensor cross matched with the Original Bmw number I got from the Stealer and the number from the Ebay seller pair ordered from Ebay delivered and now OSR fitted no more problems ATC/ABS working fine and now got a spare sensor in the shed Moral of this story DO YOUR RESEARCH ITS WELL WORTH THE TROUBLE AND IT PAYS

Read Main Topic

by ron (Posted Thu Jul 31, 2014 8:51 pm)
A re cap on my Gunson obd1 code scanner, Im getting some problems with my ASC Traction control at the mo and im not getting any fault codes coming up but there is clearly a fault So i asked my local bmw garage and its coz the code reader does not have a menu that goes to the abs system so it cant read abs asc codes only engine management codes so a bit disappointed about this just to let anyone know who may be wanting to by this code reader, I also believe that the Peake scanner cant read the abs codes if there is a fault, although apparently it does do the air bag codes. I have been looking on line for a BMW OBD1 ABS SCANNER for our e 36's but have yet to find one apart from one of these big laptop looking things that cost an arm and a leg about £400 to much for me. Be good if any of you locate a obd1 bmw dedicated scanner that reads the abs system to let us all know Im sure it would be greatly appreciated

Read Main Topic

by ron (Posted Thu Jul 24, 2014 10:10 am)
Hi all There is a new development with this ASC messing me about. I've cleaned the sensors and the toothed ring and after a couple of days it started behaving, I thought I had fixed the problem, It stopped messing about completely, I did have a mis matched pair of tires on the back corners that the walls had some nasty looking cracks staring to appear so went and bought a matched pair had them fitted and balanced as was told a mis match pair could of been the problem. Car drove 12 miles home fine no problems at all, after a couple of hours on the drive i had to move the car for my son, so went to reverse off drive and guess what!!!! ASC light flashes ABS pump starts making its noise, I knocked it out of gear into neutral and to my disbelief it still carried on so I held it at 1500 rev the ASC light was flashing like a nutter and the ABS pump was having a fit by the sounds of it, after what felt like a lifetime it stopped must of been a minute or two.I switched off then started the ol girl again and the ABS and ASC lights went out and all seemed normal. Not been out today to see what's happening but has any of you lot had anything like this happen if so what was wrong how did you get over it any ideas pls will be greatly appreciated. Oh I did put the obd1 code reader on and no faults.

Read Main Topic

My car is a 97 328i coupe

Any comments on this will be gratefully appreciated

Thanks Ron

Read Main Topic

by ron (Posted Tue Apr 22, 2014 2:06 pm)
hi all not had any problems with the 328i till now so any mechanics or people with a fair mechanical knowledge may be able to answer a couple of questions pls. Car is a 97 328i coupe e36 , i suspect a problem with the steering rack as it is often now making a donking noise sometimes worse than others and not all the time normally when parking. I have been a Ford mechanic before i retired and know that it was possible on some fords to pull back the rubber boot and undo a locking nut and tighten the ball joint , do any of you know if this is possible with the e36 rack ??? failing that has any of you with same car or e36 with the straight six engine changed the steering rack and is it much of a job obviously track rod ends and fluid pipes but is the rack itself easy to remove and replace I still have all my tools from work so that is not a problem just not done this job on a bmw before

Read Main Topic

by MadMax (Posted Tue Mar 18, 2014 8:41 pm)
UPDATE 18/03/2014
Ok, time for another update:
As I said in the post above, after reconnecting fuse 35 the central locking had been working fine for a couple of days. After that the system was working nearly ok with minor faults like windows staying slightly open when the SHUT command was given bu no major issues like herratic openings or shutting. At one point, I noticed that the radio control button was not working at all so I opened it to see what was wrong with it; the usual oxid on the battery contacts was stopping the module from working. it was at this point that I noticed that one of the remote control button plastic hinges had come apart from the main lobe of the button and not being all one piece with the button it was stopping it from moving in a completly free manner. Considering that this little plastic hinge, come apart form the main button, was not essential to operate the button I decided to remove it. As a result of that the button felt different to press and its movement was more definite and less impeded. Since then all problems seem to have gone (about 20 days of perfest functioning now). It is true that the season is better now and humidity has gone down a lot but I have the feeling that that could be it. May be the dodgy way the button was pressed caused spurious signals to be sent to the receiving station which in turn would go crazy and drive the locks in a mad fashion. I am keeping it under observation for now but no fault whatsoever. If the problem really depends on humidity it will show again in autumn. Will keep you posted if I have any news on this strange matter.

Read Main Topic

A sure sign is audible "klunking" on a directional change. My service advisor has recommended having a body shop do the repair, as it may save some money, but it looks like a big bill either way.

Read Main Topic

Recently the blower fan has been making a screeching noise at various times, clearly the blower fan is scraping against the blower fan housing. Yesterday the fan stopped operating (all the air conditioner lights still light up on the control panel as if working except no fan!). I think the fan may have finally jammed against the housing.
How do I get to the fan and housing to be able to check this? I need fairly detailed instructions on what to remove and how to remove these parts.
regards, Philip (PS the car is a right hand drive)

Read Main Topic

by leglydawelsh (Posted Tue Dec 03, 2013 9:26 pm)
Hi,

I recently purchased a really good condition 96 316se but the tourch isnt working! I have checked the bulb and it is fine but also the glove box light is out too. So my question is

1. Are the 2 in the same wiring circuit
2. Is the charger easy to check for power supply
3. What fuses control the charger and g/b light?

Cheers

Read Main Topic
