Featured authors are Dr. Catherine Bagwell, Associate Professor of Psychology and Dr. Jennifer Erkulwater, Associate Professor of Political Science. Dr. Rick Mayes is another co-author, but he is unable to join us today due to a research leave project in Peru. Their new book, Medicating Children: ADHD and Pediatric Mental Health, integrates analyses of the clinical, political, historical, educational, social, economic and legal aspects of ADHD and the medications and treatment surrounding the mental disorder.

Monday, March 23: Galvin Rare Book Room Open House, 3-5 p.m. (Basement Level 1, Boatwright Library). Discover the “hidden treasures” of the rare book room collection.

Tuesday, March 24: "Behind the Scenes" Tour of Boatwright, 2-3 p.m. (Meet at the Main Service Desk). Find out how the staff work in their areas, i.e., how interlibrary loans are processed, how digital scanning takes place, how materials are cataloged and processed, etc.

Wednesday, March 25: Careers in Library & Information Science, 4-5 p.m., Recreational Reading Area (2nd Floor). Meet with Boatwright Librarians and find out about the intriguing field of library and information science.

Thursday, March 26: Think Tank (Tyler Haynes Commons) Program on the Economy, 12-1 p.m. & 2:45 - 3:45 p.m.
“Looking to Latin America: How can the United States learn from previous economic crises in other countries?”
Latin America is a region that has been plagued by economic volatility and devastating financial crises. What can the United States learn from the experiences of its southern neighbors? How have Latin American states dealt with economic crises and what are the long-term consequences of those policy decisions? Join Dr. Jenny Pribble, professor of Political Science and a specialist on Latin American politics and globalization topics, for a discussion about economic crises in Latin America and the potential lessons for the United States.

Alert for SciFinder Scholar

Students, faculty, and staff who use the chemistry resource SciFinder Scholar will now need to register in order to access the resource online. Effective January 30th, the desktop client will cease to connect with the resource, although we are attempting to extend that deadline. Library Receives Ahmanson Foundation Grant

Boatwright Library has been awarded $12,000 from the Ahmanson Foundation to purchase materials to support the new Dance major. The centerpiece will be Dance in Video, a streaming video service from Alexander Street Press that offers some 250 dance productions and documentaries. Librarians will also work with Dance faculty to identify desirable books.

Chinese Exclusion Act “Remembering 1882” Art Exhibit
January 12 – 19 on the 2nd Floor of BML

Associated to Martin Luther King Jr.’s struggle to combat racism and other anti-humane values, “Remembering 1882” commemorates the Exclusion Act by exploring the historical debate from its origins through its full repeal in 1968, the civil rights struggle of Chinese Americans and their allies, and the historic importance of habeas corpus in the Chinese American community.

Knit One to Save One - Boatwright Knitters Tea

The Boatwright Knitters are hosting a tea on Wednesday & Thursday, December 10 & 11 Noon in the Rec Reading Lounge in Boatwright Library for Knit One, Save One, a new grassroots effort to help protect the 4 million newborns who die each year in the first month of life in the developing world.

Knitters and crocheters – bring your needles and baby yarn and join us. The Boatwright Knitters are happy to help you begin, finish or learn how to start knitting a hat!

Drop by and pick up a free pattern & start knitting for a good cause. Join us in making a baby cap & signing a letter to President-elect Obama urging him to lead the way to save babies globally.

Food for Fines Day - Friday, December 5, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Quiet Study and Group Study in Boatwright

Did you know that Boatwright Library offers designated quiet study and group study areas? In addition, there are around 270 seats in each area (total of 540!). Look for the signs on the 1st, 2nd and Basement Level 1 floors for designated quiet study area signs.
