June 12, 2026

.

Prologue: Before I launch into my latest insightful, albeit delusional, insight on the perilous future of Intercollegiate Athletics – specifically Football … I must admit to a temporary regression to my halcyon days as a “sports fan”.

I AM emotionally invested in the current efforts of the Carolina Hurricanes pursuing Lord Stanley’s Cup … AND, likewise, in the efforts of UNC’s “Diamond Heels” in Omaha.

The rest of the goings-on in “sports” gets lumped in with The Straits of Hormuz … “Thommy Boy” Tillis’ latest rabid jackassity … The ongoing Drought as it affects local fisheries … and Kid’s family preparing to spend July in the Muslim-enclave formerly known as “England” as Danny The Vicar pursues his PhD in Theology. …. Actually that last one supersedes all the others.

_____________

I had this commentary pretty well outlined BEFORE the OMG decision about the hard-core gambling QB at Texas Tech.

That ABSURDITY handed down by a judge who – SURPRISE – is a graduate of the Texas Tech Law School (who knew?) will now be appealed to a three judge appellate panel comprised of three more graduates of the Texas Tech Law School …. Ya can’t make this stuff up, folks.

With “gambling” now an “approved activity” for P4 athletes … next activities on the “to be approved list” are “coed rape … “driving 100 mph down main street” … “beating up nerds” … “threatening professors” … and “cheating just because”. Can “stabbing white boys in the chest with a knife if its just a little knife” be far behind?

Maybe Pete Rose shoulda pleaded his gambling case to a judge who was a Cincinnati Reds season ticket-holder ???

I’m old enough to remember when “judges” were worthy of respect for their wisdom and integrity …. So much for THAT misconception. “Judges” are now ranked in public respect between “journalists” and “cartel sicarios”.

The Red Raider gambling QB issue has galvanized pretty much the entire “still care about college football” community in total disbelief …. EXCEPT, of course, for Red Raider fans who are laughing their “Guns Up” butts off.

Texas Tech has this “J.R. Ewing Wannabee” Oil Baron Booster who has an ego and bank balance that dwarfs Mark Cuban’s. If $$$ can buy National Championships, he will order a dozen. “Situational Ethics” does carry a price tag.

Has this latest controversy had the national impact of UNC’s “Great Unpleasantness”? You may recall that Coach Dean Smith’s minions came up with a creative way for lazy frat boys to get “easy A’s” to stay eligible in their fraternities. To remove any hint of favoritism towards “lazy frat boys”, they allowed UNC basketball players to also get the “easy A’s … for 18+ years !!! ….. That IS the way that Tru-Blues recorded it – right …. ?????

Controversy and Corruption are nothing new to the high stakes world of Big Time College Sports.

Which is More Corrupt … Power 4 College Sports or The DC Deep State ??? Hey …lets resolve that question by letting The DC Deep State replace the Do Nuthin’ NCAA and legislate Big Time College Sports. …. What could possibly go wrong with THAT ???

And while we’re at it … lets institute on-line sports betting and promote the bejesus out of it ……. With semi-literate 18 y/os having mega-$$$ burning a hole their pockets …. What could possibly go wrong with THAT?

What’s Next? Nekkid Cheerleaders? Never say Never …

Bet you didn’t know that …. The President of Campbell University in Buies Creek has instituted a policy that any/all “Sports Booster” donations for NIL /Portal purposes MUST be accompanied by an equal donation to Campbell’s General Fund. … How would THAT go over at an SEC or BigTen school?

Amid all the pearl-clutching angst … “Bread & Circus” Full Speed Ahead as College Sports seems determined to go “Thelma & Louise” sooner rather than later … I will politely revive my humble suggestion of a nice little Alternative for anyone who might be interested …

__________________________

BobLee’s Common Sense ACC 2.0

UNCCH – NCSU – WFU – Duke – ECU – AppState – UVA – James Madison – Liberty – Old Dominion – Citadel – Charlotte – Navy – Army(?) … any other interested “institutions” within a 5 hour drive of the Selma Bojangles on I-95 who qualify under strict rules TBD … Army being an outlier as regards distance.

Football only … for the time being at least. MBB and other sports TBA once the concept is proven.

Schedules will be 12 regular season games with a minimum of Nine with-in the “conference”. Additional conference teams can be scheduled but pre-designated as “not counted as conference games”.

All conference games to be televised on ACC 2.0 Network with an established reputable streaming network with a monthly charge of $25 per household. Amount of “broadcast rights” allocated equally to each institution TBD.

All rostered “student players” to receive tuition, room, board, books, fees and tax-free monthly cash ranging from a minimum $2,500 to a maximum of $5,000 based on a TBD scale incorporating the depth cart and playing time.

Each member school agrees to provide complimentary round-trip bus fare to any/all student-athletes attending a relative’s funeral upon proof of death. … each student athlete will also receive a “card” entitling him to one large pizza each week with his friends at a local pizza provider.

All $$$ to be for the academic year and requires maintaining a minimum 2.0 GPA. A $500/mo bonus for GPAs of / above 3.0. All “student-athletes” must be enrolled in legitimate curriculum with real world application … and on a 5-year graduation tract.

A Head Coach’s salary cannot exceed the salary of the institution’s “Provost”.

The price of a bottle of water at concession stands cannot exceed the price of a gallon of “regular” gas at Buc-ees.

Any “student-athlete” found “gambling” on any college or pro sport personally or via a surrogate will be dismissed from school and given a one-way bus ticket to Lubbock, TX.

There are dozens of other nitty little issues yet to be resolved. One involves the minimum age for any coaches “girl/guy friend” relative to the coach’s age. A maximum of 15 year difference is likely.

NOTE: The above Grand Plan will become a reality when or shortly after “Hell freezes over” … “Pigs Fly” … and the afore-mentioned “nekkid cheerleaders” become a reality.

_______________________

The following is a Facebook post I made earlier this week.

A prominent Rocky Mount businessman passed away this week…. his passing is yet another “canary in a coal mine” for college athletics.

__________

I never met Don Stallings but I’ve heard many good things about him over the years … especially his financial generosity to his alma mater’s – UNCCH – athletic programs. He was in that rarified pantheon known as “a Really Big Ram”.

NC State, Wake Forest, ECU, and even Duke have their long time benefactors like Don Stallings. Every major college “booster club” has such a group of several dozen or so individuals they have always counted on to “prime the pump” with $$$$ for new faciities et al.

Don Stallings played Football at UNC in the late 50s so do the math to figure his age.

He was part of the Baby Boomer generation that has long been the core of the phenomenon of ACC Basketball that began with UNC’s 1957 National Championship, Everett Case @ NCState … etc etc …

Their names – Kenan – Boshamer – Murphy – Carter – Reynolds – Dowdy – Minges – Joel are on arenas and stadiums and IPFs and luxurious lockerrooms et al.

They were “Skipper’s friends” who built The Dean Dome where their grandchildren still sit.

Don Stallings is the latest of “them” to pass on. Who will replace them … ??? As Major College FB / MBB face seemingly Insurmountable Financial Challenges in the NIL /Portal Era?

The average Joe Fan does not have the Mega Bucks to do so … but just assumes “someone will”. …..

This is not “a UNC problem” … its a “Your School problem” too.

Something to think about as so much of what we have simply “taken for granted” about Everyday Life in America seems to erode by the hour … sigh.

May 25, 2026

.

We are now officially in those 3-4 weeks of the year when I AM emotionally invested in who wins “games” …

Hurricanes Hockey and UNCCH Baseball. Its Stanley Cup Semis & Finals and The Road To Omaha. Oh Boy!!

All those other sports and “Big Games” through the year are just “entertainment” and something to maybe watch if the fish aren’t biting. OK, Sunday At The Masters gets my full attention too.

I have only been to one Canes hockey game in the past ten+ years and can only name two players … a guy named Aho and, of course, “a Staahl”. I think its an NHL Rule that “a Staahl” has to be on the Canes. …. I still don’t understand “icing” or any of the nuances of the sport. I can’t follow the puck or how they do line changes while the clock is running. But Playoff Hockey is compelling … at least to me and the 10,000s of Caniacs in this area.

The Canes lead 2-1 over Montreal in the semis with the winner likely to play “Vegas” in the Stanley Cup Finals. The Canes have a Great Coach in Rod Brind’Amour and, for the past 4-5 years, have been a solid tier team in the NHL. Their fans pack the local WhatEverItsCalledToday arena. A common sense owner who says and does good things … and are just a real credit to this area.

GO CANES !!! …
___________

UNCCH Baseball … Of course UNCCH is on the Road To Omaha AGAIN. Ranked as high as #2 in the country and a 5th seed in the Regionals playing VCU (uh oh) – ECU (uh oh) and Tennessee at The Bosh this weekend.

One of my enduring sports heartbreaks was 15 or so years ago when a 9th inning misplayed routine groundball cost “the Moochies” a National Championship. And, of course, the loss to Davidson a few years ago … OUCH!

I can’t name a single player on UNC’s team but I WILL get to know them this weekend … and hopefully all the way to Omaha in three weeks. As with the Canes …. UNC Coach Scott Forbes is “a good man” …. a solid citizen.

Speaking of not knowing players … I cannot name ONE single player on Bill&Chick’s football roster or Michael Malone’s MBB team. I think I can name ONE NC State FB player … isn’t “Bailey” their returning QB ?? Duke – Wake? No clue.

He’s been UNC Head Football Coach for 18 months … wanna bet neither Belichick nor JorOn have a clue what Hark The Sound is? And THAT doesn’t bother a certain faction of UNC fans … IF he could just somehow Beat State!

As I have noted before … I cannot name ONE NC State MBB player of the past ten years … and maybe 3-4 Duke MBB players… Zion, Cooper and a couple of Boozers ?? … Or a single player for the St Louis Cardinals … which just 6 years ago I watched 140 of their games each year. Not any more …

That total disconnect doesn’t bother me. Its just the way it is now … for sports and for my evolving interests as I tread Life’s 18th Fairway.

My youngest granddaughter Mary June AKA “Mighty Mouse” had her pre-school end of the year program this past week. She DOMINATED the stage – at least to me – the dozen times I’ve watched the video.

__________

IMO … The Two Most Trite Ridiculous Traditions in Sports are:

(1) Boxing / UFC: The silly Glare-Off between opponents at the weigh-in before a big bout. I don’t recall Floyd Patterson and Ingemar Johannson doing that.

(2) Baseball: When there is a “misunderstanding” between a pitcher – catcher – batter that “gets physical” and both bullpens come running in to stand around …

________

Are you following the latest news with Clemson? You better … it could be “the canary in the coal mine” for Big Time College Football. A warning of what’s coming fast to P4 World.

According to the article I read … Clemson University is a Billion $$$ in debt. I’m not sure what that means but I doubt its “a good thing”.

Factors contributing were noted as “decrease in enrollment” … “decrease in grants and overall alumni giving” … AND having to subsidize Football’s NIL war chest. …. that last one is exactly what I have preached since NIL was first uttered …

DONOR FATIQUE is already here and within 2-3 years will be a BFD for 90% of P4 schools.

Do the math …. 50% of schools WILL end up with losing records each year despite NIL war chests. What’s the ROI on that ???

The past two seasons aside … for the past decade Dabo’s Tigers have been among P4 Elite programs … with Dabo not jumping head first into “buying players”. …. Their fans are famously “rabid” so one would assume not hesitant to write Big Checks to that war chest. Apparently not the case …

IMO … Expanding the CFP to 16 to 24 or 36 or 72 freakin’ teams is just another knee jerk panic-driven mistake. The multi-million $$$ 18 y/o are here to stay …

I have no clue what Big Time College FB will look like in 3-5-7 years but likely totally unrecognizable even from 2-3 years ago much less from what we all enjoyed so much for 50+ years … UNLESS they can add at least two months to the end of the year calendar. As is, the CFP Championship game could overlap with The Masters in April.

And MBB is in the same glorious mess.

Not counting my subscription to FUBO, I do not have one red cent invested in College Sports and don’t intend to. I don’t gamble and I don’t attend games or buy merchandise.

I DO pay $500 several times a year for guided fishing trips which may seem silly to many of you. My $$$ My Choice same as your FB and MBB season tickets to watch anonymous rented mercenaries wearing your preferred jersey color.

___________

Speaking of “Tigers” … I see where Lane Kiffin has brought back Ed Orgeron to his LSU staff. With those two notorious horn-dogs prowling Baton Rouge, it a good thing Livvy Dunne is long gone …
____________

Speaking of “gambling” … are you following the TexasTech $4M Transfer QB under suspension for gambling on games ??? The Wizards of Smarts that thought on-line sports gambling would be a positive addition to sports could care less what the obvious repercussions would be.

Give an 18-20 y/o several million $$$ and show him how to spell Draft Kings or Fan Duel or BetMGM and watch what happens …..

___________

Meanwhile …. Ilhan Omar is analyzing “World War Eleven” … AOC is “releasing a silo” against MAGA … and Tim The Total Buffoon has been elected TWICE as Governor of Minnesota. Los Angeles has been officially declared a 3rd World HellHole ……… YEEEEE HAA!

There HAS to be a Hell and it has a sub-basement … otherwise where will Thommy Tillis spend eternity?

My son-in-law is getting his PhD in Theology … I gotta ask him if all of this crap is mentioned in Revelation ???

May 13, 2026

OMG! Yesterday I received an email from none other than “Thai” – The Official BobLeeSays Ambassador to Thailand. He was checking to see if I was “OK”.

He (and You) had not heard from me since that last commentary about Michael WhatsHisName the latest HBBC at UNCCH. My sincere apologies …

Obviously I HAVE to opine on the Vrabel/Russini Thing.

I was waiting to see if the Mother Guthrie Thing would ever conclude so the Vrabel/Russini Thing could dominate “the media” for the two-weeks that such OMGs are allotted in America 2026. The Mother Guthrie Thing seems to have faded away …

I was also waiting for an estimate of how many of Dean Smith’s 8,000,000,000 Chinese “gave a damn” about Vrabel / Russini? Still waiting for that report.

Then I got sidetracked wondering what PMS shade of Blue President Trump is going to dye The Reflecting Pool that will cause the most liberal lunatic heads to explode. Such critical decisions are not made willy nilly.

Anyhoo … Here I am and lets discuss that Vrabel/Russini Thing.
_____________

Show of hands please … had you EVER heard of Dianna Russini before the infamous “chance encounter at the remote singles-only hideaway in Sedona AZ”. I confess I had not.

Causing me to wonder how many other moderately attractive – at best – promiscuous NFL reporter-ettes I have never heard of.

My knowledge of NFL reporter-ettes is limited to Phyllis George, Erin Andrews and …. Thats it. Phyllis George and Erin Andrews. And there is a verrrry wide gap between Phyllis and Erin.

Speaking of risque … who can ever forget Phyllis George’s interview with Roger Staubach in the mid 70s in which Miss America 1971 asked Roger what he thought about “Broadway Joe’s” highly public sex life. Roger answered that he enjoyed sex as much as Joe but limited himself to one woman. Phyllis blushed.

Phyllis would go on to date Atlanta Falcon RB “Handsome Harmon” Wages and then marry John Y Brown who owned a bunch of KFCs and became Governor of Kentucky. Phyllis passed away in 2020…. sigh.

Then of course, there was Erin Andrews’ keyhole nude peep show episode at the Nashville Marriott in 2008 that Google says was viewed 17,000,000 times on the internet. Google does not breakdown how any of those views were by Dean’s Chinese … or if Mike Vrabel ever saw that video.

Be honest … when you first heard about “the chance encounter in the hot tub at the remote singles-only hideaway in Sedona” was there the SLIGHTEST doubt in your mind that “the coach” and “the obscure NFL reporter-ette” were indeed engaged in both “hanky” and “panky”?

Even Madeline Albright who – to this day – is convinced Slick Willie “never had sex with that intern” had to know that there was nothing “chance” about that “encounter” in Sedona.

There is still an unclaimed 7-figure reward waiting for just ONE of the supposed “six girls on a hiking trip” to come forward to substantiate WhatsHerName’s claim.

All that was BEFORE we learned about the “amorous bar pics” from 2020 and the “boat rental when she was pregnant” in 2021 and the reveal that EVERY other NFL reporter-ette knew how Dianna Russini was getting her “scoops” and had known for “years”.

So now the only question left is “is her son Michael named for Coach Mike … and is Coach Mike the father”? OK, that and is/was Mike Vrabel the only NFL coach that the promiscuous reporter-ette was/is “being promiscuous with”?

Who hired the photog shamus to catch’em being amorous; and which cuckolded spouse will file for divorce first … or will either one?

IF Mike Vrabel remains as Head Coach of The Patriots and wins a bunch of Super Bowls … his legacy will forever be stained with “this”.

Should Vrabel “be fired”? Adultery is not a “crime”. A “PR nightmare” for sure but not a crime. If Kraft does fire him … or Vrabel decides to join a Tibetan monastery … no one will be surprised or bemoan his self-imposed fate. Actions have Consequences …

At what point is peeling the onion of Vrabel/Russini enough already …

Is it time to move on to the next sordid chapter in the Diogenesian search for one – Just One – sports hero (not named Tebow) that is NOT a “paragon of debauchery & promiscuity”.

________

When JFK was assassinated in November 1963 one of my first thoughts was how that would effect Vaughan Meader’s career. Meader’s First Family comedy album was #1 until that fateful day then …..

With Vrabel/Russini … I thought about Ann Michael Maye – AKA Mrs Drake Maye – and her thoughts about Drake’s Head Coach going forward. Certainly Vrabel’s “questionable choices” (??!!) in his personal life in no way besmirch “The Mayes” idyllic life.

Ann Michael Maye – AKA “Queen of The North” – is simply THE Epitome of WHOLESOME. Her incredibly popular videos on cooking, fashion and simply being so gosh darn “cute” that one might think there actually IS hope for mankind.

Ann Michael does not publicly discuss her “faith” … she simply personifies “goodness” and “wholesome” and pretty much every admirable virtue that Ward Cleaver saw in June … his choice to be the mother of Wally and “The Beav”.

And so does her hubby Drake … the closest thing The NFL has to Chip Hilton / Frank Merriwell / Roger Staubach / et al – allowing that he DID once upon a time utter a trite insult about one of UNCCH’s hated rival institutions. A misstep that will NEVER be forgotten … along with Chris Washburn’s 475 SAT score.

Is Drake Maye the ONLY NFL QB in recent history that is NOT linked to a dubious supermodel … a former Miss Something … or, an Only Fans sleazy skank …?

Whether Drake Maye can build on his success last season and become a member of the Legendary NFL QB Club along with Unitas, Montana, Starr, Graham, Tittle, Bradshaw, Brady etc etc etc is TBD. One dream season does not “a legend” make. We’ll see …

Of the 30-some teams in The NFL … the one with the owner who gets “massages” at a Palm Beach bordello … the GOAT QB who left a pregnant girlfriend for a supermodel … had a tight end – NOT named Gronk – who killed a guy … another grumpy head coach who spied on other teams … deflated footballs … and Lord knows what other atrocities yet unearthed

… and THAT is the team that Fate chose for “The Mayes” to be involved with !!!!!

__________

So what WOULD Tom Landry think about this Vrabel/Russini Thing ???

What did Tom Landry think when Tex Schramm and Gil Brandt decided to add a bunch of scantily-clad leggy Texas beauties to The Cowboys organization in 1971?

We’ll never know …

What do YOU think about the Vrabel/WhatsHerName Thing?

The post WWTLT … What Would Tom Landry Think about Vrabel / Russini ? appeared first on BobLee Says.

April 09, 2026

OK … a week ago I had never heard of “This Guy”. Of course, the only current or recent NBA head coaches I “might” could name are Steve Kerr, Gregg Popovich and JJ Redick. Those first two because they are hard-core, quite insane, obscenity screeching TrumpMAGA Haters … and JJ is, of course, “JJ”.

The ONLY Charlotte Hornets Head Coach I can name would be “Dick Harter” and that was 25+ years ago. Who forgets a name like Dick Harter? I’d be hard pressed to name a dozen current NBA players much less coaches. Hellfire, I can’t name three WNBA teams much less coaches or players (not named Catlin or Sophie).

Any opinions I might have – and will be sharing below – about Michael Malone (that IS his name, right?) have developed over the past three days.

Coach Malone’s opinions about Donald Trump and MAGA guys like me … whether he (Malone) is mentioned in the Epstein files … Did he ever have a liason with a “sports journalist(?)” at a remote Arizona hide-away ala Mike Vrabel – YIKES! … Does he (Malone) “Hate Jews” … Does he think we “faked the moon landing … and 9/11 … and Kennedy’s Assassination … and COVID” … and, and, and … and what is his opinion on con-trails and Candace Owens and barbeque – vinegar or tomato sauce? … Where O’ Where is Silent Sam? …… I don’t know ANY of that YET … but surely some pathetic no-life Franklin Street board monkey and/or some equally pathetic no-life Hated Rivals are deep diving the Dark Web to find out. Sordid details should begin trickling out any minute now …

FWIW: I also applaud NC State’s selection of alum Justin Gainey as the solution to their most unusual WTH with Will WhatsHisName.

Lets go with a bullet-points format, OK?

Why was Hubert fired? I’m going with … Immediately after the loss to VCU, an ad hoc mini-committee of 5-6 UNC Mega-Donors met with UNC admins and UNC current and future ADs (including my pal Bubba Cunningham) …. they did NOT DEMAND that Hubert be replaced; per se; but, rather if he was NOT replaced they would likely redirect their future 6/7 figure checks to entities other than UNC’s annual Rent-A-Roster. Without an overflowing NIL “War Chest” UNC MBB would quickly become an intra-mural collection of “biscuit boys”. Resolving the dilemma of DeanDome2.0 by playing before a half-full Carmichael Auditorium.

Were there “other factors” re: “Hubert”? Pure speculation but … Does Hubert play golf and did he regularly schmooze the afore-mentioned Mega-Donors during rounds at Quail Hollow CC and PInehurst #2 and Old Chatham, etc as Ol’ Roy and Dean before Roy were comfortable doing? Other than the relaxed convivial nature of 5-hours golfing followed by laid back “guy talk” in the Mens Grill … did Hubert use other opportunities to develop close relationships with the cabal of “old white guys” whose on-going financial benevolence was essential to his acquisition of “4-5 star hoop talent”? Was the fact that everyone involved was “married to white women” enough to overcome the unpredictability of Ws and Ls playing at an elite level of P4 Basketball? … Did the Mega Donors feel they were Hubert’s BFFs like they had felt with Roy and Dean? …. again, just speculating. I have no “inside info”.

Was there a “short list” of “post-Hubert … Who”? Every P4 AD, not named Dickie, keeps “a short list” of “next FB /MBB coaches” in his upper left hand desk drawer. It is Rule #1 they teach at AD School. The loss to VCU may have been “the straw” that broke the camel’s back” but there were other signs over the past three years that maybe Hubert Davis was NOT going to be UNC’s fourth HoF basketball coach, so I am pretty sure there was a “short list” … that at one time had Wes Miller’s name on it until he could not get it going in Cincinnati. Was Larry Brown on “the list”? Oh, for Heaven Sakes, I hope not. Surely, his 5th or 6th NCAA wrist slap did him in. …. “the list” likely was constantly updated as various “Flavors du Jour” came in and out. Jay Wright might change his mind … or even Tony Bennett … could Jerry Stackhouse get his act together at Vanderbilt? He didn’t. When did Dusty May and/or Tommy Lloyd join “the list” … and Billy Donovan? I suspect the name Michael Malone did not appear until about two weeks ago. If it had, surely the rabid pack of pundits, podcasters, influencers and goggle-eyed board monkeys woulda been mentioning him. “They” all said “MICHAEL WHO” on Tuesday confirming the secrecy of the wooing and signing of Mike Malone.

Why I LIKE the selection of Michael Malone …

#1 – Because it totally befuddles the Franklin Street Board Monkey Gang everyone of whom believes HE should be UNC’s Athletic Czar “because ______”. Befuddling board monkeys is second only to “watching liberals’ heads explode” for sheer pleasure. Considering the diverse intellectual and ideological composition of Tar Heel Nation, hiring Michael Malone kinda combines those two personal pleasures. ……

#2 – in his first presser he came across – at least to me – as a very bright fellow who did not say anything “stoopid” but comported himself as a man / coach at ease, used to dealing with a media that will turn on him in a NY minute. Ten years as an NBA Head Coach with over 500 Ws and a championship in his resume does not just happen without developing a skill set in dealing with open mics … and social media which Dean never had to worry about … and Roy simply had no clue what “it” was … and a demanding fan base that will always question every in-game personnel decision he ever makes.

#3 – at 54, he is 20 years younger than Ol’ Roy and gives off the appearance and energy of a guy no older than mid-40s … concerns about “relating to 18-20 y/os” is just the usual clueless fan crap. His 24 years in the NBA was mostly dealing with young men in their mid-late 20s. By comparison – John Calipari is 67 …. Rick Pitino – 73 … Dan Hurley – 53 … Mark Few – 63 … Tommy Lloyd – 51 … Dusty May – 49 … Jay Wright – 64 … and Billy Donovan – 60. Betcha those ages surprise you, huh? Oh, and for what its worth … Bill&Chick is 73 and Mack Brown is 74. ….. BTW: any comparison of hiring Michael Malone to the John Preyer dumpster fire / trainwreck of Bill&Chick is just the usual Hated Rival yadda yadda … not worth a concern. Michael Malone’s wife is 52 years old …. just in case you were wondering.

#4 – With close to 30 years “in Basketball”, Michael Malone knows what “a ball screen” is and “dribble drive” and how to make his point with a referee without “getting T’d up”. He has been a Head Coach in over 900 games – 510 -391 – doubtful there is any in-game situation he has not dealt with more than “a lot of times”. The NBA has more prima dona multi-millionaires than “The Hamptons” and Augusta National put together. Communicating successfully with multiple personalities ain’t gonna be a problem.

#5 – He is already putting together a staff to augment his own impressive skill set … signing John Calipari’s #1 recruiter – Chuck Martin – as his Asst Head Coach. Unlike Matt Doherty’s “clean house” approach, Michael Malone will keep the members of Hubert’s staff that he believes will be an asset to his “team”..

#6 – Malone is already shoring up relationships with the “Jerseys In The Rafters” guys, and Ol’ Roy, who are familiar his NBA reputation. A sit-down with MJ#23 will surely take place sooner than later if not already. 24 years in The NBA … Superstars and GOATs will not intimidate him.

#7 – The increased $$$ cost of this new staff would not be possible unless the afore-mentioned Mega Donors have agreed to be “all in”. Not having to cover a “buy-out” saved $10M. To those pearl-clutching alums who think “The University” is going to suffer from the albeit absurd costs of trying to be a Big Time College Sports school in the NIL/Portal Era are WRONG. Athletic Dept expenses are covered by revenues from ticket sales, broadcast rights and booster bucks. A point COULD be made that those booster bucks might otherwise go to more academic purposes … maybe.

#8 – Ergo …. I LIKE Michael Malone as UNCCH’s Mens’ Basketball Head Coach. To the degree I am, at best, marginally concerned with anything about “sports” as America peers into The Abyss of losing its status as a world-class civilization … I applaud the “powers that be” for this choice. ….. Oh, and last but apparently NOT least … Michael Malone is continuing UNC’s long Basketball Head Coach tradition of being “married to a (52 y/o) white woman”. OUCH!

March 26, 2026

.

To all of those who (1) watched UNC defeat Kansas in 1957 on a small black & white TV … and (2) are still alive to confirm they did … which of the following have you always assumed you would never live long enough to read …

UNC would seriously consider moving its basketball arena halfway to Hillsborough … and name it The Silent Sam Dome.

Mike & Mikki Krzyzewski would celebrate their 57th Anniversary in the Honeymoon Suite of The Carolina Inn.

UNC would conduct a search for a new Mens Basketball Coach and said search would NOT include Larry Brown

No need to count your votes …. #3 is the UNANIMOUS choice. UNIMAGINABLE !!! Is there a stronger word than Unimaginable to describe what is taking place? Somewhere Buck Freeman and Yogi Poteet are spinning in their graves.

Sure … Larry is 86 but this is Larry “By Gawd” Brown we are talking about!

Yes, Larry “Suitcase” Brown – former point guard for Dean Smith’s first UNC team in the early 60s – and former head coach of umpteen+ NBA and NCAA teams including UCLA, Kansas, SMU …. and One Other. For extra credit can anyone – not named Art Chansky – name the 4th NCAA team that Larry Brown was – technically – Head Coach at?

HINT: Fred Hetzel and Steph Curry are alumni of that small prestgious institution. To be fair … Larry was only Head Coach there for a fortnight before he skedaddled. Said 4th school was also the only college HC gig Larry ever left without the NCAA Violation Goons chasing him. To his credit, Larry did very well at his various college coaching gigs … IF one overlooks the numerous recruiting violations or the number of press conferences Larry wept at each time he was found guilty.

Here’s a guaranteed bar bet winner …. if you multiply the number of HCs gigs Larry Brown has held times the number of NCAA Violations Brown accrued you get the number of days that Will Wade will have been HC at NC State assuming Wade skedaddles back to LSU within the next week. Coincidence?? I think not.

The never-ending “Search For V2.0” appears imminent at the West Raleigh institution. Did you know … if one takes Jimmy V’s “just one pair of tennis shoes” Plus Mark Gottfried’s “briefcase full of Benjamins” Plus Will Wade’s assorted malfeasances at LSU his first time there … Larry Brown’s NCAA “rap sheet” is still longer! …. Yeah, I left out Everett Case’s “point-shaving scandal” in the late 50s since there is a statute of limitations issue.

Hey BobLee … if one adds in Dean’s & Phil Ford’s various DWIs plus the $25,000,000 AfAm Studies Scandal does THAT top Larry’s rap sheet.

Only if you count the AfAm Scandal “Great Unpleasantness” 18 times for the number of years it was in effect before Governor Martin did not interview Ol’ Roy about it.

Where was I? Oh yeah … UNC’s Short LIst to replace Hubert … a list on which Larry Brown’s name does NOT appear. Nor does Doug Moe or George Karl or Wes Miller … or Butch Estes or Buzz Peterson or Jeff Lebo or King Rice or Jerry Stackhouse.

I did see one pundit note that Bobby Hurley is “available”; recently “let go” at Arizona State. ….. YIKES!

Brown’s omission ends a record of almost 30 years when Larry’s name was the first one shouted by Franklin Street Board Monkeys. I must admit that my suggestion several weeks ago as a Likely Hubert’s Exit began to formulate that Gregg Popovich would be a perfect complement to Bill&Chick did not make the short list either … at least not yet.

Hubert’s termination was not nearly as memorable as was Matt Doherty’s. Anyone who was there or saw the video can ever forget it. “Dickie The AD” and Chancellor James “The Meez” Meezer addressed a media assembly on the Dean Dome floor. That sounds OK … EXCEPT slouching on the front row was Rashad McCants’ Gang, May, Felton, et al attired in full FUBAR gang gear … YEEE HAA!

Am I the only one who noticed the effect that “UNC Fires Hubert” has had on Global Media. “Tehran Tom” who has replaced “Baghdad Bob” as the “Tokyo Rose” misinformer for the much malinged terrorist regime – Iran … interrupted his reporting that USA was about to surrender to report Hubert’s Demise.

Not only that … “UNC Fires Hubert” has replaced “Where Is Savannah Guthrie’s Mom” as the lead story across America’s oh-so-corrupt media. “Whoopie” reported on The View that Eeeeevil Donald Trump ordered Hubert’s firing as part of his 24/7 persecution of “Black guys named Hubert”.

Am I also the only one …. who is noticing that the same overly-caffeinated UNC fans who demanded Hubert’s head on a platter several weeks ago are now lamenting that UNC officials were so heartless to FIRE such an very very fine person as Hubert ???

My total associatioon with Hubert Davis was a brief handshake five years ago. It was a very nice handshake as I recall. Apparently second half collapses versus VCU count more than a nice handshake. In his Head Coach acceptance speech five years ago, Hubert felt compelled to mention that “my wife is “white” … I, and UNC’s Womens Basketball Coach, could both identify with that.

I’ve watched basketball since that 1957 3OT Classic versus “Wilt” … literally 1,000s of games … and I still have no clue what “a ball screen” is. I have never second guessed any coach’s strategy including Hubert’s. Is Hubert Davis a Top Ten College Basketball Coach? I have no idea. That handshake and the “white wife” thing is all I have to evaluate the man.

For fans suffering from the unimaginable reality of a UNC Head Basketball Coach who is not “washed in the C-blue blood”, I offer this blunt advice – GET A LIFE! Football season will be here soon and that means JordOn JordOn and more JordOn ….

If a random survey of a few dozen Chinese street vendors outside The Forbidden City is any indication … Dean’s legendary 8,000,000,000 Chinese STILL don’t give a damn about UNC Basketball. They DO however firmly believe Renovate – Don’t Replace as regards Ye Olde Dean Dome.

There is some concern apparently that several Very Big Rams were involved in the decision to “move on from Hubert”. NOT including former UNC Trustee John “Dumpster Fire” Preyer. Apparently being pressured to throw Millions of One’s Dollars down a bottomless NIL rat-hole Every Year comes with at least some say-so in decisions relative to the ROI of that highly questionable. investment.

No “WalMart fans” and/or rabid bug-eyed lunatic board monkeys (or Stephen A. Smith) were involved in discussion involving Hubert’s termination according to reliable sources.

NOTE: Speaking of former UNC Brd of Trustees. Another former UNC Trustee was recently a victim of vicious character assassination by once-relevant The News & Observer. His heinous crime … sending an email to a little piss-ant politician in Asheville suggesting that the piss-ant politician “grow a pair, $%#^&!”. Complete details on THAT are included in my highly popular Facebook posts.

So … will it be … Billy or Brad or Tommy or Nate or Gregg or Dusty or … or … or … ???

Alls I can tell you folks is IT AIN”T GONNA BE LARRY BROWN!

March 17, 2026

It is Mid March all across The Fruited Plain; so ya know what that means …. Sigh

Oh, somewhere in this favoured land the sun is shining bright,

The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light;

And somewhere men are laughing, and somewhere children shout,

But there is no joy in ______— Our beloved team has been screwed … again!

Of the 150++ men’s college basketball teams in America, all but one of their respective highly over-caffeinated fan bases are FURIOUS … and even that one’s fan base is likely pissed off about something.

They don’t call it March MADNESS for nothing.

We’re not talking about all the actual games to be played over the next four weeks. ….. Sure there will be Buzzer-Beaters and Hail Marys and Endless Replays and Davids Beating Goliaths and Goliaths Stomping Davids and Crooked Refs and Even Crookeder Refs and Unlikely Heroes and Villains … meanwhile over 100 teams – all of whom’s players received NIL $$$$ – sitting at home convinced “we wuz robbed” because …._ .

There are, of course, several “tournaments for the left-outs” … basketball’s equivalent of Christmas In Shreveport or the Fruit Loops / Weedeater Bowl. Do those winners get rings inscribed “We might have been the 69th best team in America in 2026”.

But even those 68 teams’ fan bases are knee-jerking FURIOUS …

The one delusion that every overly caffeinated college sport fan base shares is … some mysterious “they” are jealous of their school and always screws their school with crooked refs or bad game times or 100s of other insidious ways … always … every time … Aaaiiieeeeee !

Every single team got put in “THE Hardest Bracket” because some horrible person on the “damn” committee doesn’t like their school. WHAT ARE THE ODDS of that ???

NOTE: Bubba Cunningham is NOT, I repeat NOT, on The “DAMN” Committee this year.

If it wasn’t the hardest bracket, the opening round games for “our team” are in a remote location many of our fans cannot get to … DONE ON PURPOSE!

Our opponent in the first round was purposely selected to eliminate us. WHY DID YOU PICK ON US … AGAIN?

For the Umpteenth year in a row … the entire SHAM of a March Madness Bracket is designed to penalize Our School for being so gosh-darn cool.

Hellfire … Duke fans are probably pissed about the time of their game. … or the city … or which crooked refs they will get … or their assigned arena does not offer “vegan” concessions. WHY DOES EVERYONE HATES DUKE SO MUCH … EVERY YEAR?

Ya gotta figure …. In some liberal hell-hole of a city (probably in either Virginia or California) – some goggle-eyed whack job is BLAMING TRUMP for whatever atrocities are being perpetrated on his / her / its awesome school by this March Madness Thing.

Can we expect Jasmine or Maxine or Jemele or some ESPN whozit to start screaming that “There are too many “white boys” in the tournament (maybe 7 from a quick count)… and still too many “white coaches” … how many “black folks” are on that committee? “Basketball is OUR sport … you people go play Hockey or Soccer or some stupid “white sport” … maybe Ax Throwing ?

Will the National Anthem be deleted in favor of some mullah babbling the Muslim Call to Prayer … will players be required to scream Allah Akbar after every dunk? Will there be prayer rugs with each team’s logo?

Arizona is a #1 Seed. Uh Oh … Candace Owens will somehow connect Erika Kirk to that … just you wait and see.

Jon Scheyer despite having THE Best First Four Years record as a HC of any BlueBlood program EVER, MUST win the National Championship or be labeled “Duke’s version of Matt Doherty … or Phil Bengston”.

“Thommy Boy” Tillis will hold a press conference to announce he will NOT fill out a bracket because “I am an insane media whore and I hate Trump”. CNN will make that their lead story along with a picture of a snarling Tillis biting the head off of a live sewer rat.

If UNCCH gets eliminated in the first weekend … Hubert Davis’ opinion on what happens to The Dean Dome will not matter very much.

HubertHaters ‘R Us’ “Who’s Next” Committee should note that Wes Miller – on the original short list (along with Jay Wright and, by law, Larry Brown) when Hubert was anointed – IS available. After five so-so seasons, Wes was recently “let go” at Cincinnati.

I don’t follow the various UNC Board Monkey sites … curious who the monkeys are citing as “If Not Hubert Then Who” … other than Larry Brown, of course.

Admit it … you’re still trying to recall who Phil Bengston was, aren’t you?

I was wondering …. Of the starting fives of the 64 teams in March Madness … how many of them drive exotic luxury cars costing over $80,000.00 … What’s your guess?

Of the starting fives of the 64 teams in March Madness … how many of them can name the instructors in the classes they are supposed to be enrolled in? What’s your guess?

I probably will watch the last ten – or maybe last three – minutes of games involving Duke, UNC or NCSU … UNLESS the fish are biting over at “Rocket’s Pond”. I do have my priorities.

.

March 07, 2026

What do the following all have in common? ….

Bob Hope … Kevin Sorbo … Nancy Lopez … Sylvester Stallone … “Goldberg” … George Brett … Brooks Robinson … Jack Nicholson … Annika Sorenstam … Johnny Unitas … Jack Nicklaus … Joe Pesci … Arnold Palmer … Rush Limbaugh … Phil Mickelson … Marie Osmond … Jeff Gordon … Mack Brown … Darrell Waltrip … Tiger Woods … Lawrence Taylor … & Lou Holtz. … and a buncha other assorted whozits.

At some point in their mundane lives each of’em have spent the better part of a day on a picturesque golf course somewhere in America with a bona fide Internet Legend named BobLee.

But only one of the above passed away this week – Coach Lou Holtz.

It was about 15 or so years ago somewhere in Upstate South Carolina. It might have been Thornblade CC outside of Greenville … after a while fancy country clubs and picturesque golf courses all sorta run together.

It was a Gamecock Booster event. Thats as much detail as I recall … EXCEPT a coupla bits of wisdom Coach Holtz imparted …

Over 5-6 hours “tee talk” conversations can range from “Where is the nearest restroom?” …. “When’s that cart girl coming around again?” … “Is it suppose to rain?” To the following subject Coach Holtz and I got into …

When College Football programs invite former players to come back for “reunions” … for Spring games … to introduce new coaches … to encourage them to financially support the booster club … or whatever ….

What’s the secret to getting a large turnout of former players from over the past 3-4 decades?

I recall Coach Holtz’s comments … otherwise what’s the point of this commentary.

Lou Holtz said …

(1) Find as many former Asst Coaches from various eras as you can and invite them. Players develop much closer relationships with their position coach than they do with the Head Coach.

_________

NOTE: This might not work with the Carolina Junction Boys of 1967. Some of them remember their position coach like an Auschwitz survivor remembers his prison guards.

_________

(2) Getting former AfAm players to come back is often a problem. Why is that? ….

That is a serious flaw all across college football that gets ignored.

Men get into their 30s … long after football careers are over … specifically the 98% that never even get an NFL tryout … and realize they did not “get an actual college education” … they simply “played football” for XYZ school. Taking a series of “stay eligible courses” does not prepare one for a for-real “make a living” career.

A former “star player” might have a value schmoozing clients for a company. “Tell us about that game when you _______” . That’s basically being a trained seal. Otherwise his options are limited to low level “jobs” with no career potential.

The best option for many is the military … that window is only open for a few years in his mid 20s.

_______

NOTE: Mary Willingham UNC’s “whistleblower” of 15+ years ago said … “When a student athlete leaves UNC he should have more than a 5th reading comprehension. If not we have failed him. We are his last chance to develop marketable life skills.”

Mary got run out of Chapel Hill for such blasphemy. Last I heard she was teaching remedial reading to disadvantaged kids in South Chicago.

______

Remembering being one of a few dozen “black jocks” among 20,000 predominantly middle class white students leaves a bad taste with grown men about their overall college experience.

There are exceptions of course depending upon a black student athlete’s family situation and his maturity level to see beyond “playing football”.

It’s a real problem … more so in some programs than others.

_________________

Lou Holtz was more than “just a football coach”. He was a philosopher … a thinker … he read books other than The Art of War … he watched movies other than “Patton”. And, of course, he was an accomplished Magician. Using his trademark “wiffle dust”, his “hand magic” act was the equal of a Las Vegas street “busker”.

In his final years, Coach Holtz, like Dickie V and Lee Corso, got a little “goofy” … as do many of us.

Not all of my “tee times” with those celebrities up top were as memorable.

Kevin “Hercules” Sorbo was a regular and a “great guy”; as was the wrestler Bill “Goldberg”. Nancy Lopez was terrific … she could charm a foursome the minute they walked up.

With rare exceptions, they knew Why they were there … to benefit the charity / cause d’jour by making every participant feel special for their few minutes together.

I did so many of these events over a 10-12 year period, I got where I could tell in the first few minutes if it was going to be “a long day”. That day with Coach Holtz, obviously was a “good time”.

I worked with Sylvester Stallone and Jack Nicholson for a couple of years at a charity event at Riviera Country Cub in Pacific Palisades outside LA.

One year I took “Kid” with me. Both guys posed for pictures with her. She had NO CLUE who they were. We got home and she showed the pictures “with some friends of my Dad” to her friends who recognized them immediately … “Kid’s” status at Broughton High School went thru the roof. … That story was a big hit when I told it at her rehearsal dinner.

I learned the hard way that I was not put on this earth to be a raconteur. 500 people in Rapid City, South Dakota – including oddly enough Sen. John Thune – will attest to that. To paraphrase the memorable Thanksgiving episode of WKRP … “As God is my witness, I thought a line about drunk Indians would fly…”

I died that night just 258 miles east of the Little Big Horn where George Armstrong Custer met his historic fate. Unlike Custer, I lived to fight another day.

At Kid’s rehearsal dinner and my Eulogy at Rush’s memorial service five years ago … I did Hit Homer Runs when it counted.

Otherwise I leave raconteuring to pros like Coach Lou Holtz.

March 03, 2026

.

Do I have an opinion on What da heck to do with The Dean Dome? Sure I do.

I must offer several disclaimers before discussing this pearl-clutching issue that has all of Tar Heel Nation in a tizzy.

I have NOT discussed any of this with Bubba Cunningham. Ergo, no leaking any secret details.

UNC Chancellor Lee “Cokie’s Son” Roberts issued a recent statement to the effect that Carolina Basketball Is The Gosh Darn Greatest Tradition in the History of Basketball Anywhere Ever maybe in All of Sports … or something grandiose to that effect.

“FanBoy” Chancellor is at least three clicks over the top. Kentucky, UCLA, Kansas and UConn WBB have already filed civil suits against Lee for Gross Exaggeration and Downright BS. Duke is preparing to join them by Wednesday.

That goofy “Helms Thingy” notwithstanding, UNC Basketball certainly IS very impressive by any standards but lets trim the hyperbole just a notch or two … OK

.

I have zero preference for which option is decided. I doubt I will ever set foot in whatever / wherever IT might end up. My opinions herein are for Entertainment Purposes Only.

.

BobLee Says … Renovate the current Dean Dome.

Remove all but the first three rows of the upper level reducing max attendance to a workable 15-16,000 thereby reducing the traffic in the currently crowded concourses. … and the long lines at the concession stands … and at the pee walls … and with parking issues.

If “move more students near the court so UNC’s arena is more like Duke’s” is a desire; ask the trust fund babies in the lower level to give up their inherited seats. Good luck with THAT.

Costs to Renovate seem to depend on whether the source is for or against “renovating”. Anywhere between $300,000,000 and $700,000000 depending upon whether they completely tear out the”pee walls” or simply retile’em.

Costs to build DeanDome2.0 North range from “not much more than renovating” to “about as much as Obama gave the Iranian terrorists (i.e. $1.9 Billion)”. Definitely even more than Gio Lopez got for his ignominious 9 months in Chapel Hill.

That $1.9B includes adding a dozen or so Fake Somali Day Care Centers in the basement. Chapel Hill’s notorious LeftWing Lunatics ‘R Us will applaud that.

Option #3 is “The Odom Village Site” which is just south of Manning Drive across from the UNC Medical Complex. That option was just added to make folks think they really are reconsidering what the hell to do with this mess.

Pissin’ off Ol Roy and “PsychoT” who are hard-core “Renovaters” is a real concern. No Trustee has volunteered to tell Tyler his opinion doesn’t matter.

A deep pocket former Trustee named Rusty Something (NOT “Clark”) wants to be “Skipper Bowles” this time around shaking down alumni for mega $$$$.

Speaking of “former Trustee” … John “I’m Mack’s BFF” Preyer – architect of Bill&Chick-gate – has indeed resigned from the BOT. That leaves the Bill&Chick and Lombardi families without a mole in South Building. Who will approve JordOn’s game day wardrobe next season?

Costing The Flagship over $50,000,000 in the Bill&Chick Fiasco was the legal limit for wasteful spending by a UNC Trustee. Who knew?

I have no feel for or prediction how this TDD will end … or if it ever will. They are forming several more “blue ribbon ad hoc committees” which usually guarantees at least another year or so before anything might be decided … when & where to meet … who brings the doughnuts … etc etc …… then another 2-3 years to actually begin whatever they decided to do.

The only person involved in all this with a lick o’ sense is, of course, Bubba Cunningham. The Bill&Chick Debacle shows how much those wacky academaniacs listen to him. They oughta …

FACTOID: By the time whatever they decide to do gets done … Every Tar Heel fan who watched the 1957 NatChamp Game versus Wilt on a tiny black&white TV courtesy of CD Chesley will all be long dead … or in God’s Waiting Room at Carolina Meadows.

.

FACTOID: Every Tar Heel BB fan who ever actually saw Dean hold up Four Fingers for Phil Ford in 1975-76 is now 60 or older …most well into their 70s. My peeps!

.

FACTOID: For the 243,875 Tar Heel fans who were AT THE “8 points down with 13 seconds to go” GAME in 1976 and have their ticket stubs to prove it. Those ticket stubs are worth more than a Honus Wagner Rookie baseball card.

.

FACTOID: About 12 or so years ago, Lennie Rosenbluth, Danny Lotz, Albert Long and yours truly were invited by Sylvia Hatchell to have Lennie give a pep talk to her team about 1957 … prior to them playing Gino’s UCONN team in TDD. … Those 18-19 year old girls had no clue whatsoever who this old jewish guy was … they had no clue who “Wilt” was!! …. Oh, and they lost by 42 to Gino’s UCONN team the next night.

.

FACTOID: Hubert’s future aside … Three HOF coaches is three more than 97% of P4 schools. It is NOT UNC’s birthright to have a HOF coach. “Hubert Haters” think every coach they can name would disembowel his momma to be HBC at Carolina. NOPE! Jay Wright already turned it down when Roy left. Wes Miller has been mediocre at Cincinnati. Pat Riley, Gregg Popovich and Red Auerbach won’t retutn a call. Maybe Matt Doherty would do “a Mack” and do a “do over”?

.

FACTOID: Michael#23 – AKA “His Airness” – never played an official game in TDD. He retired from the NBA in 2003 – 23 years ago. No current UNC undergrad ever saw Michael Jordan play in college or The NBA.

.

FACTOID: The Dean Smith Era kicked in during the mid-late 60s with Larry Miller, Charlie Scott, etc. The % of coed undergrads back then was give/take 18-20% except on weekends when coeds were imported from area “girls’ schools”. ….

For the current 2025-26 school year the % of coeds at UNC is 61% !!! Except for weekends when studly Green Berets are imported from Fort Bragg for the coeds … that aren’t committed lesbians .… or Krazy Karen Wannabees with purple hair, nose rings and no clue about “the real world”.

Anyone involved in college fund raising will testify that female alumni DO NOT “give” nearly as much $$$ to their alma maters as male alumni who are more interested in the sports team.

Speaking of UNC coeds …. Remember The Fabulous Comparato Twins – Nicole & Paige from 6-8 years ago? Awesome combinations of beauty & brains. Their senior year at UNC, Paige was head of the Student Senate and Nicole was Editor of The Daily Tar Heel.

Following UNC, “The Fabs” attended University of Miami Law School. Paige graduated #1 in the class with Nicole a close 2nd. Both are now raising super stars in the highly competitive Miami Law community.

Nicole was married this past weekend in a lavish affair at a Key West resort. She assured me that lucky hubby knows she and Paige are destined to be the first twin Supreme Court Justices.

I once asked Nicole … “With UNC males trending towards “soy boys” where do coed hotties like you guys find dates? Her quick response was … “Oh we all date NC State guys …”. True Story!

.

There are several dozen more FACTOIDS I could list … but the reality is this ain’t the early 1980s when Skipper Bowles was shaking down his country club buddies for Dean Dome building bucks by promising them Lower Level seats FOREVER.

The first game in Carmichael was played in December 1965. I was there but do not have the ticket stub. I didn’t need one. Being a Future Internet Legend had its perks even back then.

The average age of the dozen or so Really Fat Fat Cats in The Rams’ Club that have been expected to bankroll EVERYTHING for the past 15+ years or so are in their mid-late 80s – Fulton, Smith, Harris etc. Fat Cats are not like dragons. They don’t live forever.

Do we even need to discuss that Big Time College Basketball (and Football) is in a helluva mess these days. With no real solution on the table.

The Transfer Portal WILL be tweaked a bit … but the NIL $$$$s are only going to get higher and higher. To field a Top Twenty competitive mens basketball team in the next 3-5 years is expected to exceed $25,000,000 EACH YEAR. That is just for 8-10 basketball “recruits” not counting 25-30 for Football.

Renting a Caleb Wilson for a year is one thing. Having a slim chance to keep one a second year could easily double in cost.

Whatever path they choose for a new arena … it’s gonna be a very very bumpy road…. And it ain’t paved in gold or fading memories of a by gone era.

I DARE YOU to copy this commentary and look at it in 3-4 years. I’m holding an “I told you so” chip in my pocket.

February 02, 2026

.

A heretofore long-lost Nostradamus Quatrain #21574 has been unearthed beneath a stool at a Waffle House on the outskirts of Provence, France. It predicts that …

… on or about October 20, 2034; in a hotly contested P4 college football game between Team A and Team B; on his way to his lockerroom at halftime, the QB for Team A will be handed a paper bag filled with BitCoin … will immediately change direction and report to his new team – Team B … whom he will lead to a 2nd half comeback victory over his former team – Team A. … no big deal as such has become “normal” by that time – 2034.

What makes it unusual is that FINALLY by 2034 not one single college football fan finds anything unusual by that and DOES NOT post indignantly on social media that “College Football is ruined … it is just minor league NFL … and what happened to academics…”.

If Nostradamus is correct, it will only take EIGHT more years for that grim realization to be universally accepted. In the intervening eight years, the hues and cries will continue as what “used to be” college football fades inexorably from the memories of even the most hard-headed of King Canute-esque fans yelling against the tides.

The College Football/Basketball you were addicted to for most iof your life is as Dead & Gone as George Carlin and Robin Williams.

For the record, I THINK what happened with the former Duke QB was disgusting … surpassed only by what happened to Dabo and the Clemson LB and Ol’ Miss. THAT was beyond disgusting. I can say the above being fully aware that the blatant shenanigans that are now “legal” have been going on “illegally” for several decades.

Ahhh for those Good Ol’ Days when all college sports fans AGREED that … “Every school cheats EXCEPT My School; and our Hated Rival cheats the most …” ……. Indeed, those Good Ol’ Days! LOL.

The NCAA rulebook of “Thou Shalt Nots” has been reduced to a single Post-It note

Warning “Try Not To Mention “God” So Much” in post-game interviews.

I have a proposal as regards the Total Elimination of “Academics” in the NIL /Portal Era.

_______________

Every P4 “institution” must offer a degree curriculum in “I Want To Play Sports for A Living”.

Think about it … Is there any difference in an 18 y/o boy with obvious athletic ability wanting to be the next Maye – Manning – Mahomes – “Michael” et al ….. OR an 18 y/o savant with exceptional computer tech skills wanting to be the next Elon Musk, Steve Jobs, etc. ? …. or any 18 y/o aspiring to be doctor, lawyer, aerospce engineer, business mogul.

With each of the above – athlete – compu-nerd – MD – attorney wannabee … four+ years of advanced training in any of those occupational disciplines might well reveal “wishin’ won’t make it so” and a change in occupational direction might result.

The following does not apply to UNCCH Lower Level fans … who still tout “Rusty Clark was a Morehead AND became a Doctor” when the subject of “student athletes” comes up in any conversation. Yes, that WAS 60 years ago. So?

Locally, NCSU’s Parks & Rec Dept is filled with once upon a time “engineers” who never cleared the freshman hurdle of Calculus. Over at UNCCH … “Organic Chemistry” waylays many a “Doctor wannabee”. A BMOC QB at Class 1A East Bertie Central might find the going a tad tougher on the P4 or even Group of Five level …

A mandatory “Play Sports for a LIving” curriculum major would, of course, immediately attract every P4 NIL-temporarily wealthy young man .. or woman.

This new curriculum would be specifically designed for “student-athletes” (cough, cough) on team rosters. Of course, “lazy fraternity boys” could also enroll because … as we learned during UNC’s Great Unpleasantness … so long as a few “lazy frat boys” are in a class it can be as bogus as necessary for “easy A’s”.

Actually “easy A’s” will no longer be necessary since GPAs and “academic eligibility” have already been eliminated in Big Time College Sports.

Classes in the “Playing Sports for a Living” curriculum could include …

* How To Change Oil in a Lambo … * Famous Quotes from John Madden, Dickie V, Al McGuire, and Chris Berman … *. How to Spell NIL – ESPN – SEC … & Krzyzewski … * Most Popular Trite Insults for Hated Rivals … * Why Mamma’s Latest Boyfriend Should NOT be Your Agent … * Best Barbershops in Every Pro Sports City … * Best Pizza Joints in Croatia When You get Cut from the G-League … * Three Dieties Other than “God” to Thank in a Post-game Interview w/ Holly Rowe … * How Many Zeros in a Million … * Avoid Financial Advisors Named “Sneaky Pete” or Mamma’s Latest Boyfriend … * The Big Difference Between Miami (Ohio) and Miami (“The U”) … * Transitioning from Playing to Broadcasting – taught by Tony Romo and RGlll … with one mandatory class – Reading at a 9th grade level before you turn 21.

YIKES … I kinda got carried away there ….. You can see that the curriculum possibilities are limitless. All classes will be taught (?) by full-figured gals with names ending in “i”.

The alternative to “Playing Sports For A Living” will be a cooperative arrangement with a local community college / trade school offering classes in …. How To Parallel Park a UPS Truck … and … Does UberEats or DoorDash Offer the Best 401K …. How To Scam Elderly Widows as a Bogus Handyman.

______________

Did you know: Gio Lopez arrived in Chapel Hill last Spring. Lets say “April”. He was guaranteeed (supposedly) $2,000,000 by GM Michael Lombardi’s whizbang talent scouts (i.e. his two sons and his next-door neighbor “Bruce”). Gio Lopez said “so long suckas” to Chapel Hill for Winston-Salem in December.

Those nine months netted Gio $220,000 /month. UNC won four games @ $55,000/W. Had Gio’s grandmother passed away while he was at UNC he could have charted a tricked-out 747 to her funeral and given free pizzas to everyone at the funeral service. ….. the age-old problem of college athletes not affording the basics available to other students seems to have been solved! Ya think?

_____________

NFL Commish Roger Goodell is on the “Hot Seat”. “Folks like me (and most of you)” are pissed w/ Roger booking “Bad Bunny” ANOTHER Whitey American-hatin’ Rap Whozit for SB Halftime …. Folks like ESPN’s Whitey-haters ‘R Us are pissed at Roger for ZERO Black (OR Gay OR Trany OR Illegal) HCs being hired this go-round. That leaves Ol’ Rog about as popular as ego-maniacal jackass “Terrible Thommy” Tillis at Mar-A-Lago.

_____________

Speaking of “popular” … UNC Football Messiah Bill Bill&Chick ain’t too popular with NFL Hall of Fame voters. No gold blazer for Bill … not this year, any way. JordOn had already scheduled a soiree for Bill’s induction ceremony in August. Invitees include Brady, Gronk, “the guy who deflated the footballs, “the guy who spied on Bill’s opponents”, the store manager for her Mom’s Dildo Store in P-Town, and, of course, Notorious UNC Trustee John Preyer. JordOn was planning to wear “a gold blazer” … nothing else, just a gold blazer … and her trademark “hooker boots”.

January 21, 2026

.

Having just experienced the worst “trip out west” since the Donner Party, UNC’s ever-increasingly maligned Men’s Basketball team and its leader, the also ever-increasingly maligned Head Coach Hubert Davis returned to Dean’s Dome to begin the Atlantic Coast portion of their Atlantic/Pacific Coast Conference schedule.

A season that began with highlight reel dunks by Phenom de’jour “Caleb” and a tall white guy has gone off the rails for lack of “the next Phil Ford or Ed Cota or Tommy Kearns” according to the so-called experts at He’s Not Here or wherever the UNC Basketball Experts hang out in 2026.

I have no opinion on the malignment of Hubert Davis. A school with three legitimate Hall of Fame basketball coaches (don’t forget Frank McGuire) is NOT guaranteed a 4th despite what it’s C-Blue Kool-Aid drunk fan base might think. The only sure thing about the current and future plight of Major College Basketball is that any correlation to its storied past is purely by accident.

“Blue Bloods” from now on will be determined by “Green Backs’ as in the going rate to rent -a-player for one year. How many jerseys and banners hanging in one’s rafters is now irrelevant to how many “benjamins” are laid on the. table.

The chances of Hubert Davis still being UNC’s HBC come May are about as good as “JordOn” being invited to join the Greater Carrboro Ladies’ Tea & Crumpets Society. A likelihood that surely will garner the rapt attention of The Self-Appointed Saviour of All Things UNC Sports …. Trustee John “Mack’s BFF” Preyer.

Having single-handedly made UNC Football the laughingstock of College Football with Cirque de Bill&Chick, could Trustee Preyer pass up the opportunity to do the same with UNC Basketball?

I have it on authority from absolutely no one that Trustee Preyer is already in negotiations with none other than ……

Gregg Popovich.

The legendary former HC of the NBA’s San Antoonio Spurs, “Coach Pop” meets all the criteria that Trustee Preyer looks for in his well-chronicled Head Coach searches …

Like YouKnowWho …Popovich was born before 1950 … he is 76.

Like YouKnowWho … Popovich is top three in all-time Wins in his sport

Like YouKnowWho … Popovich was fortunate to have “a generational talent” (Tim Duncan) during his decades of success.

Like YouKnowWho … Popovich is notoriously cranky, arrogant, and “difficult”

Like YouKnowWho … Popovich has a greatly exaggerated opinion of his current market value

But BobLee … Does Popovich have a “sugar baby”? Who knows; but Who Knew until Belichick showed up with his in tow.

PLUS … and especially appealing to 99.999% of the TDS-afflicted population of Orange County ….

Gregg Popovich HATES DONALD TRUMP & MAGA NATION with the heat of 1,000 suns.

Only Warriors’ HC Steve Kerr … Adam “Pencilneck” Schiff … “The Wicked Witch of Chappaqua” … and Jasmine “Ghetto Barbie” Crockett MIGHT out rank “Coach Pop” on the TrumpDerangement-meter.

No more calls … Trustee John Preyer has his Next Big-Name Coach ….

The choice of Gregg Popovich will NOT please those Franklin Street die-hards who, for the past 20+ years, have pined for Larry Brown … George Karl … Doug Moe … Wes Miller … and/or even His Airness #23 as their Tar Heels mentor of choice.

With the question of “After Hubert … Who” having been resolved, Old Wellers turn their attention to the future of Yea Olde Dean Dome …
________________________________

.

There seems to be no end to the subjects about which I have little or no interest whatsoever … but feel compelled to discuss any way … “Carolina North” fits that criteria.

UNC owns 200+ acres of land where the Horace Williams Airport used to be, a mile or so north of downtown Chapel Hill. After a decade plus of umpteen ad hoc committees to discuss how to develop that land … a new series of committees are now being formed to further discuss “how to best develop that land”.

The previous committee recommended the area be called “Centennial Campus” … a homeless guy named “Mitch” told’em that was really dumb and would not be approved by the much-maligned UNC Board of Governors. That unimaginative recommendation was NOT proposed by Trustee John Preyer despite what most logically assumed when it was announced.

Of all the long lists of possible usage of the property the ONLY ONE that alumni actually care about is the possible building of a new basketball arena … replacing the 40-years old Yea Olde Dean Dome.

UNC officials have sworn in writing that a new building would NOT be named “Doherty’s Dome” … OR “AfAm Studies Arena“. OUCH!

Hansbrough’s House is still a possibility as is “The House That Michael Built But Never Played In” … that has a nice ring to it.

An alternative to a brand new off-campus arena is renovating The Dean Dome … AKA “The Dome That Skipper (Bowles) Built”. The cost of renovating versus a new building is about half for the former.

Renovations would include removing the fabled “pee walls” in the Mens Rooms … and maybe demolishing the entire Upper Deck which for 40 years’ have required individual Hubbell telescopes to see uniform numbers and where the ball is.

It being UNC and Chapel Hill circa 2026 … restroom renovations will require only half as many as were necessary per code 40 years’ ago. Separate “facilities” for males and females are sooooo “unprogressive” and it being UNC and Chapel Hill circa 2026.

Renovating TDD OR a new arena …. either decision will require beaucoup bucks by UNC Mega-boosters. Yes, the same Mega-boosters who just paid Gio Lopez $2,000,000 for his nine months of mediocrity in Chapel Hill. “Donor Fatique” is not a matter of IF but WHEN ….

Final decisions on any/all of the above will likely be resolved by Chancellors and coaches yet to be born.

___________________

Re: Indiana Hoo-Hoo-Hoo-Hoosiers et al …. As Future Czar of P4 College Football …. my first decree is that Fernando’s Quarterback Draw TD is THE SINGLE GREATEST PLAY in The Modern Era of College Football. Auburn’s Kick-6 versus Alabama drops to #2.
