Realtor turns to blogging

Marc Galeazzi, a 24 year old realtor recently purchased a blog Onemansgoal.
He’s new to the blogging but has a network of guest bloggers who will be helping provide a lot of articles. Marc will be posting a whole bunch of videos. He currently works for Coldwell Banker and also works as a bartender at a local restaurant in Durango Colorado up in the mountains. He plans on posting 3 articles a day. Many of his posts will be made in video. His ideas look very promising. Check it out!

Eastman Kodak Company names Jennifer Cisney as Chief Blogger

Eastman Kodak has announced today on April 3, 2008, the appointment of Jennifer Cisney as Chief Blogger. She will over see two of Kodak’s blogs - “A Thousand Words” and A Thousand Nerds.” to boost the company’s social media presence according to their press release sent on Business Wire.

So yes, its possible to become a full time blogger and even a “Chief Blogger.”

Craigslist wins discrimination lawsuit

After several years of litigation, a three-judge panel of the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on March 14, 2008 in favor of Craigs list over a discrimination lawsuit brought by Chicago Lawyers.

The suit, filed back in 2006, was brought because the plaintiffs lawyers claimed it violated the Fair Housing Act of 1968 by publishing discriminatory advertisements. Craigslist has become a powerhouse on the internet with more than 30 million people a month who post offers to buy, sell or rent goods and housing. Craigslist permits anonymous users to post free ads, which are unedited, unscreened and of unlimited length.

The ads the plaintiffs said it spotted on Craigslist contained language like “African-Americans and Arabians tend to clash with me” and “No kids allowed.” Other ads they claimed gave requirements like “single occupancy only” or “no minorities.”

The Federal Court of appeals ruled that Craigslist is not the publisher of the ads, as a newspaper would be and therefore did not come under the U.S. Fair Housing Act.

Blogger Extradited to Los Angeles

Saipan Governor has ok’d Blogger Kazuyoshi Miura to be extradited to Los Angeles to face murder charges. The 60 year old blogger was wanted for the murder of his wife in Los Angeles, California. In his blog, Miura wrote where he was traveling to and police were able to arrest him during one of this trips in Saipan. The cops are not just at the donut shops reading a newspaper. They read blogs too.

Blogging Leads to Criminal Charges

Kazuyoshi was wanted for an alleged 1981 murder of his wife in Los Angeles, California. He has since been living in Japan and Japan refused to extradite him to the United States because he was already prosecuted their for the same crime. However, a personal blog written by the defendant which was read by Los Angeles Police, led to Mr. Miura’s arrest in Saipan. He is 60 years old.

Ironically, on Mr. Miura’s website, he promotes himself as a human-rights advocate who helps those falsely accused of crimes.

According to his blog, he mentioned international travel plans, including a possible trip to Saipan, a U.S. territory and popular tourist destination north of Guam. Former LAPD Detective Jimmy Sakoda allerted LAPD who in turn alerted Immigration and Customs officials in Saipan to be on the lookout.

They were unable to arrest him during his arrival, but immigration agents on the island arrested Miura, last Friday when he attempted to leave for Japan.

Miura, who has repeatedly denied involvement in his wife’s murder, is awaiting extradition to Los Angeles. Miura has reportedly retained high profile lawyer Mark Geragos. Geragos previously represented Scott Peterson, Michael Jackson, and Winona Ryder.

In Japan this case is big news, the equivalent coverage of the O.J. Simpson Trial. In this case there is a Japanese version of the O.J. Simpson case. In this case, there are allegations of a hit man, a conspiracy with a former adult actress and a $650,000 life insurance policy he reportedly purchased.

The moral of the story? Don’t write a blog about where you are going to if the police are after you.

Bloggers at risk for heart disease

For all you bloggers, its quite easy to add on the pounds and start to look like a jelly roll. Bloggers are very at risk for heart disease and other illnesses. Most bloggers don’t sleep enough. We know this to be true because most bloggers can’t afford to blog full time. Most people hold down full time jobs then come home and at some point start blogging late at night or in the early morning hours. Their diets are usually crummy. They drink a soda pop and munch on chips while blogging. . . and typing on the key board doesn’t count as exercise. If you want to live a healthy life, you should consider this: (1) Get at least 8 hours of sleep. Sleep is important for the repair of damage to your body’s cells during the day. Bloggers who lack of sleep increases the risk for developing diabetes, cardiovascular disease obesity and infections. (2) If you are reading this with a soda pop in your hand, you should evaluate your diet. A healthy diet is critical. Your diet should consist of daily servings of fruit, vegetables, protein, and water. (3) Finally exercise at least four times per week for 45 to 60 minutes. Exercise reduces your risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, diabetes and obesity and helps relieve stress and anxiety. Not to mention exercise will help you get the body you always wanted. In summary, get enough sleep, exercise and have a healthy diet.

Google Fast Pass

Just when you are on the first page of Google after waiting a long time to get to the front, someone rudely cuts in front of you.
Yep, its been reported that the Google Local Results has expanded for some competitive key words and are now showing up to ten “Local Results”. If you look closely, many of the local results are not even local. Google calls this “Local Results” but we will call this “fast pass.” Kinda like the Disneyland fast pass.

Blogs targeted by Google

Yep. Blogs that do paid reviews have become the latest target by Google. Many blogs that do paid reviews have seen their sites lose page rank. And sites that relied very heavily on paid reviews to get page rank dropped significantly and saw many back links virtually disappear overnight. Well not really. The links were disappearing long before. You just got a snap shot on January 10, 2008 as to what was occurring months before. The good thing is that the drop in PR for many blogs had no affect on the traffic. So ignore Google and keep blogging away.

January 2008 Google Toolbar Page Rank Aftermath

Well you were either (1) jumping up and down celebrating a rise in PR on your site, (2) sitting down wondering what went wrong, or (3) wondering why some of your sites went up while other went down.

One thing for certain, Google actually allowed you to see more of your back links for a change. However, there was no direct correlation to PR many webmasters report. Therefore if you had 3 back links showing one day and the next day you had over 90, but no increase in PR, then we know Google was merely showing you more of the actual links you really had all along.

If your site got a nice bump in PR, well congratulations. But we all know PR is no longer as important as it used to be. One additional observation is the update came sooner than expected. Does this mean Google is moving toward more frequent Toolbar updates? Possibly.
