Hi there! We’re back. Bruce and I had a long chat about how we wanted the newly-relaunched (and refitted?) Boldly Gone to feel different than what Ming had done before. Since we’re both Of A Certain Age, we started to talk about old school Trek comics and those dubious-but-charming Gold Key/Western books came up. After that, our path was clear. We hope you appreciate what we’re doing here and we’ll see you in two weeks!

(Interestingly, this is probably the most nakedly autobiographical comic strip I’ve ever done, due to my own allergies. And if you don’t know, here’s the deal with Caitians.)

Hi there. Ming’s been supremely busy with her paying work for Image (Mara) and other companies and, sadly, that means she’s not as available as she or I would like for this project. It’s the reason behind the long hiatus and neither of us are happy with it, but it is what it is.

That said, with her blessing, we’re bringing in a new artist who 1) loves classic Star Trek and 2) is someone I like very much as a person and as a drawer of things, which works out nicely.

Meet Bruce McCorkindale. He’ll be alternating between this strip and his ongoing Fits and Starts, so you’ll get a new installment of Boldly Gone every two weeks once we’re underway. I hope you enjoy what he’ll be doing with the comic as much as I do. In the meantime, enjoy this comic strip drawn by him featuring a less interesting version of our favorite 1960s science-fiction program.

Howdy and welcome back! We’ve been busy, as you can probably tell, but our forces rallied to give you this, the new Boldly Gone. We hope you enjoy it, even if it requires a bit more Trek-specific knowledge than our usual goofs and ha-has.

In the meantime, if you’d like more from Ming Doyle, she’s written and drawn a (very good) story in the new Vertigo Mystery In Space #1, which hits comic shops today. Here is a picture of the cover so you know what it looks like:

Yes, it’s been a while. We’ve been busy. How are you? Are you good? You look good. Have you been working out? I mean, seriously, your forearms are just splendid. Really nice definition without going into 1984 Sylvester Stallone territory.

Anyway, if you think you’ve seen this joke before, it’s because it’s a riff on one we told before, because that sort of thing amuses me.

We’ll be back when we’re back. We’d update more often, but when someone is drawing multiple comics that will be on shelves soon and someone else is busy writing other comics and pitching to publishers, well, the thing that we can’t ever make money from gets put on the back burner a tiny bit. We know it’s frustrating, but we appreciate that you keep visiting.

Yes, a special President’ Day Pinup from guest artist John Waltrip. If you’re a nerd of a certain vintage, you might recall John’s comics work on the Robotech franchise with his twin brother Jason. I am, of course, a nerd of that vintage and I greatly appreciate this piece, something to sate you guys until next week. (Or the week after. Deadlines are, again, being a bit of a pain.)
