We have all seen them – brash managers who come to work in a sour mood and, like a bad virus – they spread their gloom and doomthroughout the office. Brash managers appear to not care about their impact and often times have the people skills of a Walleyed Pike fish. But consider this – what if behind the curtain of these perceived egocentric managers we found a human being who was in fear of their job, had anxiety about their own competencies and were operating in scarcity mode because they simply did not know any better? Would you treat them any differently if this were the case? Would you be open to providing feedback to help them understand their impact? One most tread carefully here with this type of manager – but if your intuition informs you that they have what it takes to be a more effect (bold) leader, what is holding you back from providing feedback that may make a difference? If you go here, put on your Coach hat and come in with a sense of curiosity, don’t make them wrong, use “I” vs. “you” statements and be authentic in your feedback. It may be the conversation they have been waiting to have for some time.

And there are changes coming soon to this blog. We’re working on a new image and a new layout for the blog based on all that we’re learning about how to attract some additional readers and start building interest for a big launch of our JUMP program series.

So, we’ve looked at the rainbow converter – that’s you – and we’ve got the secret that you get to make your life any colors you like. Someone asked today whether that isn’t just fairyland thinking. Good question since the idea does point to a good deal of magic, to which most of us do not give credence. In response, I thought about brain plasticity and how science is discovering that our brains can actually heal and change themselves with our intentional help.

It seems, then, that it’s a quick step from there to the idea that when we change our thoughts, we change our experience of life, and there’s emerging evidence that we might actually participate in creating the world around us. Quantum mechanics and all that! And then, there’s the anecdotal evidence that Allan and I have seen in client after client, bold mover after bold mover. Hard to deny!

So, we invite you, you powerful RAINBOW CON VERTER , to start thinking about the wake-up colors you want to bring into your life, the Alert Levels that will signal joy, and optimism, and balance, and crazy imbalance in ecstatic moments. How about Chocolate? What would it signal for you? Cinnamon? Eggplant? Tangerine - okay enough with the food! How about School Bus Yellow? SeaGreen? Hot Pink? Let us hear from you by leaving a comment below!

Thanks to zingerbug.com for the pic

Okay, now we have a rainbow of individual alert levels:

So, while we’re saying that Alert Level Red signals Terror, Orange signals Fear, and Yellow signals Caution, it is important to notice where these ideas come from. They come from the culture of fear around us. It’s pretty much everywhere right now. The good news is that we are playing with the idea of creating our own rainbow and so far, we have Alert Level Green to signal Openness, Blue to signal Possibility Thinking, and Purple to signal Dancing Inside.

Aha! She says, and there is the secret! In order to redefine all of the alert rainbow, we need to quit looking to the external world as our point of reference, because basically, it’s a muddy mess out there right now. Look how fun it is to imaging green, blue and purple as positive alerts!

So what if we keep going and redefine Red as, well maybe Love! And Orange as Creativity. And Yellow as Personal Power. You see, just by turning our attention from “out there” to “in here” we have transformed terror into love, fear into creativity and caution into personal power. And that is only the beginning, because there are a zillion shades, hues and tones of personal experience to add to red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. In fact there are so many colors available that we simply cannot find any limitation to the signals we could create inside ourselves.

More tomorrow on the great RAINBOW CONVERTER – which in your life, is you of course!

I’m done for now talking about lenses, except to see what happens if we cross reference the series on lenses with the prior (and still in progress) series on Alert Levels – like Red, Orange, Yellow, and now with our input, Green and Blue. That pretty much leaves Purple if we’re sticking with your basic primary and secondary colors.

On April 27, I touched on Alert Level Purple as it applies to the excitement Allan and I are feeling as we are getting feedback on the business plan we’ve been stewarding forward for the past four and a half months. So here’s the report: Very Exciting!!

Even our most conservative, don’t-understand-a-thing-about-self-development-products-or-internet-marketing associates are giving us high marks. There are some challenges, of course, things to edit, but bottom line for me is that I’m learning so much right now about where this business is going, that my concept for it is getting more and more refined, which means we have some editing to do anyway.

High creative tension here, and I’m thinking that may be Alert Level Purple, where we let go of trying to understand the business plan development intellectually, and let it go into the same kind of collage process we’ve been discussing recently. We can see our plan readers as different lenses. We can form a vision that we will benefit completely from all of the different perspectives, stay open to the essential DNA of this business development process, and expect ease and grace to have us sliding into home before very long.

Once our many lenses have allowed us to access the realm of our subjective awareness, our emotional and imaginal dimensions of intelligence kick in to help our process of self-identification. The exponential effect of self-awareness begins to escalate and we become more and more aligned with our authentic nature. Now, we are in a whole new world of bringing self-knowledge into conscious competence, of building authentic self-worth, and thus of integrating ego as a healthy champion of the true self.

So, when we look through many lenses and choose what applies to us uniquely, maybe we are actually cutting through all of the conditioning we’ve gotten throughout life from the outside world. Maybe we are accessing the raw data of our essential DNA. If so, we are not really creating a new self with our collage, we are re-membering who we actually are. Maybe that’s why ease and grace show up!

Last week we were looking at how neutral lenses can help us see ourselves without getting trapped in isms and dogma. We’ve been working with neutral lenses for many years, with the help of psychologists and creativity experts. Here’s what we’ve learned about how lenses work in concert with each other.

One lens, like a simple values assessment, gives information that penetrates ego and enhances authentic self-understanding. (Most blustering egos don’t know what their values are, so they project false or compensatory values.)

Two lenses, like a values assessment plus a personality inventory, create an exponential effect in self-understanding because we match, sort and integrate relevance from both lenses, choosing what speaks most accurately to our individuality. That is the beginning of a powerful, and highly individual process of creating, or collaging, a new sense of identity that more accurately represents our core of uniqueness.

Add in more and more lenses and the self-identification process penetrates more and more deeply into the subjective realm, because the logical or intellectual mind cannot hold the complexity involved in sorting, matching and integrating them all. Tomorrow, we’ll explore even deeper into the subjective aspects of intelligence, and play with DNA.

Yesterday we asked, “How do we avoid getting trapped in isms when we’re searching for our authentic self?”

The answer is, we find or create ism-less lenses, many different neutral, clear tools, through which to view ourselves. These might include values assessments, personality indicators and other tools that help us focus in on what we secretly know about who we are as individuals. In BoldMoves Country, one explores forty different lenses that look at diverse and sometimes surprising dimensions of self.

After we have looked at ourselves through enough ism-less lenses, we gain clarity about what fits and what doesn’t. We become clearer and stronger.

Then, we can confidently derive whatever value may be appropriate to us from ism-laden lenses without getting trapped in shoulds and other dogma. We are able to slough off the distortions, and gain benefit by choosing only what is relevant to our individual uniqueness. This too, is a life work if done in a vacuum, but with tribes forming, and work already accomplished by others, new possibilities abound and the time table can be greatly shortened.

Next, we’ll explore how diverse lenses work to help a person re-member core self.

I’m a little bit inconsistent this week with blog subjects. It’s because so much new insight is popping. Today, we will begin a mini-series exploring Lenses of Self.

Key to making Bold Moves is developing the skill of self-reflection. Navigating the process of becoming self-reflective is very tricky because of the distortions we get as our ego looks for answers in the outside world. We look to religion, or to philosophers, or to pop psychology, or to the neighborhood wise woman, and we get confused because what they give us is always wrapped in some form of dogma or ism. Many isms come in the form of “shoulds” that don’t necessarily align with our individuality.

We can slog through all of the distorted lenses, sifting and sorting for what rings true to us. This can take a lifetime. But there is a way to greatly speed up the process so that we can, more readily, dance that life in our own unique steps. So, how do we avoid getting trapped in isms?

The answer, tomorrow!
