What's Your Raashee?

The movie begins at Bardoli village, Gujarat where a wealthy old man decides to write his assets in the name of his grandson Yogesh Patel (Harman Baweja), the only person in the family to remember his maternal grandfather on all occasions (read birthdays).

Yogesh is doing his MBA at Chicago with a rocking life style of a sincere student in the day time, popular guy in the campus and a DJ at a night club. But things are not rosy at home in Mumbai where his elder brother has taken a huge amount of loan and lost it in stock market crash and is not able to pay back to several people including a local bhai.

He is supposed to give attendance everyday at Bhai’s office and he is being constantly threatened by two chelas of the dreaded bhai who has a style of threatening defaulters – he would cut the fingers by using a betel nut cutter.

A family astrologer predicts that within a very short time Yogesh would get married and he would get a fortune on the very same day.

Yogesh makes an urgent visit home after learning of sudden ill health of his dad, which turns out to be a false news and he is further taken aback by the ridiculous request made by his family members - he has to marry a girl in 10 days in order to save his family from an eventual complication and disgrace.

After a long phase of jet lag and persuasion and emotional blackmail by family members he agrees to marry and being a principled man he refuses to accept dowry. He starts reading a book which he happens to find at home and what’s that book all about?

No prizes for guessing – “What’s your Rashee?” and then starts the poor translation of Linda Goodman’s sun signs book into a loose movie plot. As if it is not enough, there are two additional silly and forgettable sub plots.

The girls start entering in a random zodiac fashion and each zodiac has a story to tell. Ashutosh Gowariker struggles to stitch a convincing story relevance-wise as well as astrology-wise.

Some zodiac signs lack convincing characterization and a few overlap. Only a few succeed in making an impact due to the versatile Priyanka Chopra who delivers every character with sheer conviction and brilliant performance.

Anjali (Mesh) with a slouch and a bad dressing sense, Vishakha (Vrishabh) with a childish behavior who wants to test the person, Kaajal (Mithun) a vivacious and bubbly girl who thinks it is a must to give some time to understand each other before marrying, Hansa (Karka) a traditional girl with a broken heart, Mallika (Simha) an ambitious and headstrong dancer, Pooja (Kanya) a doctor who wishes for a husband to support her in every venture of hers, Rajani (Tula) a dominating business person for whom the marriage is a business contract to save her from an ongoing CBI enquiry, Nandini (Vrishik) who has a conservative exterior with a diametrically opposite true nature and who is passionate about becoming a supermodel, Bhavna (Dhanu) an astrologer with seductive charms, Jankada (Makar) a school going underage girl, Sanjana (Kumbh) a sophisticated and a straightforward girl and lastly Chandrika (Meen) a filmy kinda person who believes in re-incarnation and second lives….huh

While adapting the extremes of every character to the demands of screen, the story loses it’s plot (if at all it had any) in a big way only to be saved mercifully by the brilliant Priyanka Chopra.

Music has always been a strong point of Gowariker’s films here it’s a downer. Every zodiac breaks into a compulsory song with only very few being catchy.

The story becomes so predictable in the second half that you wait for the movie to get over and start counting how many signs are still left and with no interest left to see which sign the protagonist ultimately marries.

From whatever little you showed us (for a fraction of a second) on the screen Mr. Gowariker, I could gather that Yogesh Patel is Mithun moon sign and Scorpio sun sign.

But his birth details do not match with the chart generated towards the end of the movie. But you were so busy adapting extremes of Priyanka Chopra’s 12 zodiac signs, you completely neglected the characterization of the main lead.

He is just a foreign returned student with some music knowledge and giving all similar responses, exclamations and surprise reactions to the extreme idiosyncrasies convincingly exhibited by Priyanka Chopra’s characters. Harman Baweja doesn’t impress overall. However, the rest other cast members have put up a good show.

The film would have been a little more bearable had it been under three hours but a running time of 3 hours and 30 minutes appears far too much. If you may ask whether to check it out or not well there are only two reasons to watch this astrological blunder made by Ashutosh Gowariker – Priyanka Chopra and Priyanka Chopra.

After playing full-on glamorous roles in films like FASHION, DOSTANA and LOVE STORY 2050 last year, Priyanka Chopra has gone for a minimal make up look for KAMINEY.

As per the actress, this was a conscious decision since the character of Sweety that she plays in this Vishal Bhardwaj directed film is such that it doesn't warrant extra time to be spent in front of the mirror.

"Just imagine, Sweety is someone who comes from a lower middle class family, lives in a chawl and is a college going 22 year old girl.

There was no way that we could have justified her as a glamorous personality when her background and upbringing was completely on the contrary", says Priyanka who would next be seen in 12 different looks for Ashutosh Gowariker directed WHAT'S YOUR RASHEE which arrives late September.

As per Priyanka, there is a certain way in which young college going girls behave and she has adapted those mannerisms to go with the character of Sweety.

"Where is the time for someone so young to be sitting in front of a mirror and get all dolled up", questions Priyanka who is paired opposite Shahid Kapoor in the film, "Most of such college going girls are usually in so much in hurry.

Sweety is just one of them who takes hardly any time in getting dressed him, puts on a 'choti', rushes to college and has only one agenda in life- Get a boyfriend! She is content when she gets one!"

Playing a hardcore Maharashtrian girl, it was quite a task for Priyanka to actually put on the mannerisms that go well with her background and upbringing.

"Being a Punjabi, it was really very difficult", says Priyanka, "I had to work extra hard since I had so many friends belonging to Maharashtra and I had to make them feel proud of me when they see me on screen."

Since she has been a part of the industry for quite some time now, Priyanka has been put up in Mumbai for 7-8 years now. Was it still such a difficult task considering the fact that one expects a person to have adapted to the atmosphere by now?

"Adapting is one thing and playing someone who belongs to the region is different", explains Priyanka, "I had to go through 1.5 months of training to get the Maharashtrian milieu and language right. I guess I have done a good enough job though I still look forward to all the feedback coming my way once audiences see me on screen."

After MP3 - Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar, Ruslaan Mumtaz is once again seen on the big screen in Satish Kaushik directed Teree Sang.

In the film which opened last Friday, this 24 year old young man plays the role of a 17 year old boyfriend of a 15 year old girl (Sheena Shahabadi) who gets pregnant from him. The film comes with a message around teen pregnancy and has one of its major promotional pegs being sex education.

In this exclusive interview, Ruslaan Mumtaz talks about the entire makeover that he had to go through for Teree Sang and how it wasn't an easy task for him to bag the lead role in the film.

Ruslaan, in real life you come with quite an impressive physique. So what did you do to look so different in Teree Sang?
I had to actually go through a complete makeover as far as my looks, physique and wardrobe were concerned. For Teree Sang, I had to lose a lot of weight. Since Sheena (Shahabadi) is practically a kid, I had to look innocent too.

More so because I was playing the role of a 17 year old boy who could impregnate a girl by mistake. It was imperative that audiences are led to believe that this guy is someone who can commit a mistake.

So he had to be simple and quite naive, something that can be projected only if the look and presentation is correct. He couldn't have been shown as a cool dude because then his character wouldn't have been believable at all.

Please carry on...
This boy is so sweet and simple that the girl keeps bullying him but he still never minds. She calls him a duffer but he only smiles. He is someone who is just not pretentious at all.

He comes from a poor family and when he visits Sheena's house for the first time, his eyes pop out by witnessing just the sheer magnitude of the mansion where she lives.

He is very vocal about his emotions as well but when it comes to the moment of decision making (when he accidentally gets the girl pregnant), he doesn't shy away from his responsibilities. He could have said that it's the girl who actually pushed him into the act but he never does that. He supports her whole heartedly.

There have been interesting stories floating around how you were selected for the role. I have heard that Satish Kaushik was not really keen to cast you even though you were quite persistent.
What you have heard is half correct and half incorrect (laughs). It isn't as if Satish Kaushik wasn't keen to cast me. He actually wanted me for the role since he was quite impressed with my screen test.

However, he wanted a new boy for the role and I had already signed Robby Grewal's MP3 - Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar. He asked me if I could leave MP3 but that wasn't possible for me. 6 months passed by and he still hadn't found his boy (laughs).

So I approached him again and told him that he would never find a better boy than me to play this role. He again said no to me but surprisingly whenever there were any auditions for different girls who were being looked for the role, he would call me. Finally, I got to know that someone else was taken for the hero's role.

That must have been heartbreaking...
You bet! Here I was coming week after week hoping that he would finally be convinced and there he went on to take some other boy. Thankfully there were so many other people who had seen the auditions.

People from his own family and Bharat Shah (who is producing the movie) - everyone was sure that I was the guy for the role. As was destined, they didn't take either the boy or the girl whom they had selected first. Ultimately Sheena and I were signed on.

What happened to that boy who was finalized before you?
That guy is now an aspiring director actually. He was a very sweet guy and I completely believe that he was also very apt for the role.

In fact he was just himself when he walked in for the audition and that was the very reason why he was selected in the first place. I observed him quite carefully since for me, he was the reference point for the boy I had to play on screen.

I had to just wear the kind of loose clothes that he was wearing, get an appearance like him and adapt his mannerisms.

You must be pining a lot of hopes on Teree Sang?
See, box office is important but then it is at the end of the day quite secondary. As long as I can have DVDs of 10 of my films ready and I can show them to people who matter, it is great. That should be my goal as of now.

I am a newcomer and not really in a position to decide where I would be in a few years from now. Ultimately Teree Sang is a Satish Kaushik film and that by itself should be good enough to pull in audiences.

Rightly Abhishek Bachchan and his better-half flew back to Mumbai after attending the opening ceremony of the Cannes film festival because they wanted to be home in time to hear the election results, thereby giving the skip to the big Bollywood party held by the Committee Of Indian Industries hosted by the flamboyant Vijay Mallya on Saturday night for the Bollywood delegates at Cannes.

Says Abhishek, “It’s a crucial election for us. And we wanted to be here when the results came in.”

The rest of Bollywood’s who’s who that attended stayed back.

On Friday night actress Tannishtha Chatterjee (of Brick Lane fame) who is at Cannes to introduce her film Road, Movie directed by Dev Benegal attended the premiere of Cannes’ main feature film this year Bright Star.

And Tannishtha met the director Jane Campion.

“I’m a big fan of all her works specially The Piano. To my delight she had seen my film Brick Lane and liked it. The night before Bright Star I attended the premiere of the other big film Fish Tank which is one of the hottest films this year in the competition section. Coincidentally I had presented the best actor award to the Fish Tank hero Michael Fassbiner at Cannes last year.”

Not much buzz is heard about Anurag Basu’s much-touted Kites at Cannes.

Says a delegate, “Hrithik Roshan hardly came out of his hotel room. And who is Barbara Mori? So much is written about her in the Indian press. At Cannes no one could recognize her.”.

A. I think Ritu Kumar is the best designer for Indian women. If we talk of a makeover then I would go for Manish Malhotra.

Q. Which is the costliest outfit you have bought till date?
A. I had bought a saree which cost me three and a half lacs. If you talk about future then I would like to buy an eleven lacs lehenga for my wedding.

Q. Which is your favourite party wear?
A. It depends whether I am free or not. If I am free then I like to dress up in a proper way before leaving for a party. But sometimes I have to join a party directly from my work and I don’t get time for a change. Normally, I like wearing jeans and shirt for a party.

Q. What do you generally dress up while relaxing at home?
A. The lesser the better. I hope you understand what I mean.

Q. Any particular colours you opt for while buying your clothes?
A. Normally I go for a black and white combination. But now-a-days I like wearing royal blue and yellow coloured dresses. My choice for colours goes on changing every month.

Recently, Ameesha was in news for taking an eve teaser to task by giving him an earful when he misbehaved with her. After being a witness to eve teasing in her locality, she realised that enough was enough and she wasn't taking anything more lying down. Along with her bodyguard, she hunted down the eve teaser and came down heavily on him.

Are other Bollywood women willing to follow the same approach? Joginder Tuteja pops the question and realises that quite a few of them are even willing to go an extra distance and use their fists or kicks, depending upon the situation. While a couple of them were willing to ignore, forget and move on, majority aren't as kind!

Vaishali Desai - Eve teasing is a grave crime. It is a cowardly act by those individuals who lack morals & ethics. A lot of these cases are on a rise which makes women feel very unsafe.

A lot of times women let go in such situations which gives a chance to these eve teasers to misbehave even more. I feel any such incident should not be encouraged & must be immediately reported.

Strict action must be taken against such offenders so that they do not repeat such kind of behaviour in the future. Effective laws need to be implemented by the Government to ensure the safety of women.

Every woman needs to be treated with respect & dignity and just not an object of male fantasy. So all you women out there, please voice your opinions because it's in your hands to make a difference.

Payal Rohatgi - Well, Indian men or let me say, generally men consider working women pretty easy to lay their hands on. More so, if they happen to be coming from the glamour field.

So men with such mentality should be taken to cops as this behaviour of theirs is not forgivable. If someone acted smart with me then I would make sure that he is punished appropriately.

Hazel - Well, I often have problems with this because usually I have observed guys following me on their bikes when I am driving or in an auto rickshaw. Basically I try to outwit them by stopping my vehicle off the road while pretending that I am getting out of it. However, if that doesn't work, I even drive in to other people's buildings.

Bhairavi Goswami - I haven't heard anything about the Ameesha incident. I can't comment on eve teasing. Having lived here for only past five years, I have so far never come across it.

Priyanka Kothari - I have never faced eve teasing but in the future, if I do come across one such idiot, I would deal with him in the manner in which any eve teaser should be. I would report to the police and make his life a living hell.

Arsala Qureshi - I would hit them where it hurts the most and leave them dysfunctional for life. I am a great follower of self defence and I can vouch for it that it works.

Richa Chadha - If someone troubles me then ignorance is not the best policy. See, most eve teasers would try to act smart with you when no one is around. They would touch you or pass lewd comments.

In such a scenario, I would make a big scene, create some hungama, abuse this guy, really shame him and call people.

Given my experience with guys in Delhi, the city where I have grown up, I have experienced such a situation in the past. I have even hit them strong.

Sabrina Louis - I have reacted differently in different situations. I have actually even thrown someone off a cycle when he tried to act a little over smart.

I have reacted aggressively in such situations in the past. But now I know that these eve teasers only want to get a reaction out of us. I choose to ignore them and treat them as if they don't exist.

On the other hand, on occasions I have confronted the teaser and scared the living daylights out of him. I am still very much cautious because it only takes a second for a man to touch women's dignity.

You've got a funny little byline to your film Teree Sang - a kidult love story.
Today's kids are adults. That age group knows much more things about life and everything than we used to know when we were their age. India and its kids are growing fast.

But the word 'kidult' is actually a word invented by the same person who invented 'adolescent'. I'm very happy that you noticed the byline first because at one time I wanted to title the film Kidult with a K rating.

Kya Kehna, a film almost similar to yours didn't work with the audiences. Do you think that the society will accept a film like this dealing with teenage pregnancy?
Why not? They will. This is my first film where I've researched a lot and the debate created in the film is mind blowing. I wrote Teree Sang in London while I was shooting Brick Lane. Long time ago I had seen some Telugu film which dealt with teenage pregnancy.

The same thing is very much evident in the UK and the US. Then I saw one website called standupgirl.com. They've got so many different angles and stories which deals with such issues and many others. That's where I got my story from.

Which means that Teree Sang will be tackling issues?
Teree Sang is an issue based film. If there is a film with any issue and then you make a love story with it, it'll always work. Be it Ram Teri Ganga Meli, Bobby, Ek Duje Ke Liye, etc. Teree Sang is a modern day Bobby you can say but done on a very real scale.

For the first time ever, a child will come to know that there is a law which prohibits them to have sex at such an adolescent age. And even the parents will come to know the same. The film is not preachy. I've made it from the viewpoints of kids and parents both.

And how did you manage to find your apt kidult girl?
That was a tough ask. To find a fifteen year old girl wasn't easy. I have gone real with the age. I finalized Sheena the kidult in fifteen days. One day she just walked into my office and I decided I had found the face I was looking for. She could fit the role of a girl with a small face carrying a baby.

So how's Sheena in the film?
She has seen the film and because I come from NSD, I can confidently say that Sheena is going to go far. She is a very good actress. Her funda in life is - I want to become an actress and I will become one.

That's the thing I liked about her. She has a lot of attitude and aggression and yet looks innocent and cute. She is going to carry the film all the way on her shoulders.

Milenge Milenge is coming at a point when Shahid and Kareena have called it quits.
Well, blame it on destiny. But as I tell my producer Boney Kapoor, this film is based on destiny and destiny is going to take care of Milenge Milenge.

Not many people know that Milenge Milenge is the first film that Shahid and Kareena signed together. Actually, I was the first director to convince Kareena to work with Shahid. I called Kareena while she was filming for Bewafaa with Akshay Kumar.

Have you shot some of the scenes again with Shahid and Kareena?
No, I haven't. There was no need to. People keep on changing their look in each scene now instead of each film. Yes, both Shahid and Kareena are looking young in Milenge Milenge but you will not make out in the film when you see them. Whatever we've shot is final. After their successful Jab We Met, they are ready to meet again.

Do you think Shahid and Kareena will promote the film together now that they're no more together?
Well, that's a call which the producer Boney Kapoor has to take. I am sure that in all good faith they both will come together to promote the film if needed. At the moment I've got Teree Sang to take care of as that's going to release first in the theatres after the strike.

You've worked with Kareena at the start of her career in Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai with Tusshar which you directed. What's Kareena like now?
We all know that Kareena has taken a leap now. A big one. She is a brilliant actress. Sometimes, you relate to an actor on emotional grounds. That's my relationship with her. Somehow, I and Kareena have stuck to that emotional connect.

I was very touched by one of the recent interviews which Kareena gave to the print where she stated, "Whatever the reason, I have done Milenge Milenge for two favourite people of mine, Boney Kapoor and Satish Kaushik, who've stood by me from the beginning of my career. I totally stand by Milenge Milenge."

I should say this that Kareena apne profession ki bhakti karti hain. She is the only Kapoor girl who has so much passion that today if Raj Kapoor saab was alive, he would've felt that the show is still going on. Kareena is completely a director's girl.

Your inputs on Shahid Kapoor please.
Shahid is touted to be the next super duper hero of Bollywood. He is into his own world of acting just like his father Pankaj Kapur. He is not a kind of person who will speak out like Kareena about how the film is. But he knows in his heart of heart that he has done a good film. Milenge Milenge will work out for Shahid.

Have you been approached by Shekhar Kapur for Mr. India 2?
I have no idea about the casting of Mr. India 2. So far, I'm not in. But I know for the fact that there is Calendar in the film because Shekhar told a few months back.

Why not? Mr. India is a cult film. Not many people know this but I suggested the name Calendar to Javed Akhar in the first one because my father's old friend used to say Calendar as a takiakalam. He used to say, "Aree panditji kya hua.

Chaar peti bheji calendar, lekin usme teen toh kharab nikli. Agar aise hi maal bhejte rahoge calendar toh phir kaise chalega?" Mr. India is my ancestral property and I'd love to be a part of it. After Pappu Pager, I am known by all as Calendar.

On Friday May 15th evening actress Celina Jaitley held a press conference at ace photographer Rakesh Shrestha’s studio in Aaram Nagar, Goregaon, Mumbai in regards to her photos being morphed and misused by a website.

Earlier during the day, Celina Jaitley had complained to the cyber crime department against the website which had allegedly morphed her pictures and uploaded on its site.

The Ex Miss India turned actress was left shocked on seeing her around an year old pictures from a photo shoot being morphed and used to titillate by the website to sell gadgets. Her pictures had the words “Slide to unlock’ written on her panty.

Celina appeared miffed at the alleged miscreants during the press conference and terming the incident as a professional hazard further added, “It is unfortunate that this is the price one has to pay for stardom. I hope the law brings the trouble makers to book.”

First Look: Hrithik & Barbara Mori lip lock in Kites

Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan along with his Mexican co-star Barbara Mori unveiled a teaser trailer and some key art posters of their much talked-about film "Kites" at the Cannes Film Festival Friday.

"'Kites' is a story of love that goes beyond barriers, boundaries and cultures. With an internationally renowned crew and crisp story telling, we have attempted to create a film which we feel has a scope to reach wider world audience and set new benchmarks, " said Hrithik.

Also present at the event was Hrithik's father Rakesh Roshan who has not only produced the film under his banner Filmkraft Productions but also written it.

"With each of our films we have tired to push the envelope with path breaking technique, storytelling and novel presentation.

A film like 'Kites' has never been attempted in India before. This is our attempt to tap the mainstream international audience and we are hopeful that with an able partner like BIG Pictures, we will be able to meet this objective, " said Rakesh Roshan.

The film is directed by Anurag Basu who carved a niche for himself with films like "Gangster - A Love Story" and "Life in a Metro".

"I'm glad Rakesh Roshan and Hrithik entrusted me with an opportunity to direct 'Kites'. It has been an enriching experience to shoot the film with an international team across world cites. I'm happy that the film is getting such great exposure at Cannes Film Festival, the world's biggest film market, " said Basu.

"Kites", which is being marketed extensively by Reliance BIG Pictures, also has Kangana Ranaut, Nick Brown and Kabir Bedi in pivotal roles.

"We are extremely proud to be associated with Filmkraft for marketing and distributing 'Kites' and have put together a diverse team with relevant international experience to take the film to the widest possible international audiences. Cannes 2009 is the beginning of this exciting journey, " said Sunir Kheterpal, COO, BIG Pictures.

The film is scheduled for release in the last quarter of 2009.

We profile a handful of tinsel stars who have either been arrested or have a FIR issued against them.

Salman Khan

He is a man who has not just many 'faces', but also aces rolled into one. For some he is a saviour and wise, but then, there are others too who think otherwise.

Even though Salman's personal life has made equal news as much as his professional life, the irony about this man is that, despite being one of the biggest and powerful superstars in the country, he also happens to be the main accused in a hit-and-run case.

It is for this very reason, that he is facing the charges for killing one person and injuring four. If that wasn't enough, then, he was also the man most 'Wanted' for the infamous hunting of a protected gazelle in 1998.

Shilpa Shetty

Call it as a mere coincidence or mere incidents, that anything she does gets translated into national headlines. We are indeed talking about the super hot Shilpa Shetty, whose stocks zoomed faster than the speed of all the F1s put together.

All this happened (read 'was possible') only after the super-success of the British reality show 'Big Brother'. It was this show (and courtesy the late jade Goody), that got Shilpa Shetty transformed from being a Bollywood actress to her present day status of 'Brand Shilpa Shetty'.

While all of this is enough to bring a smile on anybody's face, an unintentional 'cheeky' incident a few years ago saw her at the 'receiving end' by none other than Richard Gere himself!

This happened when the pair had made an appearance at a press conference as part of an AIDS awareness campaign, which was aimed at preaching safe sex to the truck drivers in India.

Sad as it may sound, but the stark fact remains that even today, many of the religious fundamentalists and Hindu nationalists consider any display of public affection as a taboo. No wonder then, Gere's PDA towards Shilpa immediately came under the scanner of all the self-appointed 'moral police'.

All of this got resulted in Miss Shetty's name being taken not just at a number of protests, but also on the FIR copies.

Now that the dust has settled down, Shilpa Shetty can be seen cheering her team 'Rajasthan Royals' at the ongoing IPL matches. On a lighter note, one wonders, after this incident, will Shilpa and Richard ever buy the saying 'Kiss and make up is the way to go'... What say, Miss Shetty!

Sanjay Dutt

He is a man who truly is a living example of the saying 'Looks can be deceptive'. While for any layman, this man will come across as solid as a rock (courtesy, his bulging biceps and triceps), people close to him claim that he is basically a child at heart, who has only lost his way in this big bad world.

It was only a few years back when Sanjay Dutt (who now popularly gets referred to as the very affable 'Munnabhai') passed through a phase that saw the vanishing of the child-like smile from his face.

While those who thought that the star had ended all his ordeals by winning (read 'overcoming') his battle against drug- addiction, little did they know that the worst was yet to come.

Sanju baba got arrested for the illegal possession of the much dreaded AK-47 rifle that had come in the consignment meant for the serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, which had then got the entire nation to a standstill. It was for this reason that Sanju spent more than 18 months in jail.

Today, even though he has bounced back to normalcy, his past is something that still continues to haunt him at every nook and corner of his life.

To cite an example, when Sanjay had recently visited Lucknow to campaign for Samajwadi Party (that he was representing), there were posters and hoardings that read 'Lucknow is our heaven, we do not want AK forty seven'.

Saif Ali Khan

He is one 'Royal' man who started his career as an Aashiq Aawara, and later on went onto become one of the most looked upon and sought-after style-icons that the country has ever produced.

Even though he initially made news for the wrong reasons pertaining to his troubled marriage with Amrita Singh, Saif is now a happy man these days with the love of his life Kareena Kapoor by his side!

But the scene and the situation was just not the same a few years ago, when Saif made headlines after his car hit a 13-year-old boy who suffered minor injuries.

Unlike many heartless beings who leave the victim and run away, Saif immediately rushed the teenager straight to hospital and also paid for his treatment. Saif later got released on bail after being charged for causing injury by negligent driving.

Fardeen Khan

This man, if not a hero, would have surely been a Supermodel of the highest order. But since he got acting as an inheritance, films were a natural choice for him. We are indeed talking about the suave dude Fardeen Khan.

Even though many of Fardeen's films didn't shine as expected at the Box-Office, his performances were always appreciated. But what was not appreciated was his 'coke' act a few years ago.

Reports have it that he was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau in Mumbai for the illegal possession of drugs. There were also further rumors that he was caught with a drug peddler in Bandra and that cocaine was recovered from his car.

Even though Fardeen has come out completely of the coke case's shadow, a mere mention of this incident is bound to take the daylights out of his fans.

Vivek Oberoi, whose name is now being linked to sitar player Anoushka Shankar, says good friend Kareena Kapoor pesters him most to find a suitable match for himself and settle down soon.

"The pressure (of getting married) is on, not only from my family but from even Bebo (Kareena's pet name), " Vivek, who will be seen with Kareena and Saif in Rensil D'Silva's untitled film, told in an e-mail interview.

"Every time we go out for dinner, she would shake her head and tell me - 'find a nice girl and settle down' and I would hide behind Saif to dodge the bullet. We had some great laughs, " he said.

Vivek's personal life has always been in the spotlight - from the time his engagement to long-standing girlfriend Gurpreet Gill broke off to the short but much-hyped relationship with former beauty queen Aishwarya Rai. But now the actor is single.

He reasons his stag status by saying: "I'm single because I am waiting to find the girl who will make me want to never be single again."

His personal life apart, Vivek has his hands full with big banner movies like Ram Gopal Varma's "Rakta Charitra", Prakash Jha's "Rajniti" and Tips Films' "Prince" besides Rensil D'Silva's untitled romantic thriller.

So Vivek will be back with a bang after experiencing a series of ups and downs in his career.

Vivek is in no mood to assess his stint in Bollywood since his launch in Varma's "Company" in 2002 as he says he is still raring to go.

"When I retire, I will have enough time to sit back in a rocking chair and judge my career. Right now, it's time for me to grab every opportunity and give it my very best, " said Vivek, who was loved by audiences in films like "Saathiya" and "Yuva" as well.

The actor also spoke about the only mistake he thinks he made during his seven-year-old career.

"What went wrong in between was that I had forgotten why I came here...to be an actor...just that...Not all the trappings of stardom but just the pure fire of burning desire to act, " he said.

Now Vivek says he has set a goal for himself.

"Every day, in every way, I want to be better and better...that is my mission and my prayer, " he said.

Yes, the Bollywood beauty has written in a bold and forthright manner on the raw deal given to gays in India and invited support for her crusade for the amendment of Article 377.

Writes Celina, “This law has been used to systematically persecute, blackmail, arrest and terrorise sexual minorities. The legislation was introduced by British colonial authorities and does not reflect Hindu cultural values... India needs to shrug off its colonial mentality and come out of its all-prevalent homophobia. It appalls and dismays me to see the attitude of Indian people towards homosexuals/bisexuals – they’re subject to really insensitive jokes/comments and open derision.”

Spurned by the Race producers, Abbas-Mustan are planning to revive their long-forgotten shelved project Mr Fraud for Tips’ rival company Astavinayak which stars Bipasha Basu.

Says Bipasha, “If Mr Fraud is revived I’d be happy to give dates.The film was shot in London and the styling was not time bound.”

Not that Bipasaha is mourning her absence in Race 2. “I heard even Abbas-Mustan are not doing Race 2. If the original directors are not doing the sequel, who am I? I haven’t been approached for Race 2. That’s fine. In Bollywood the heroines are never signed for sequels. It’s a tradition . Just check the sequels. The guys get repeated. The girls don’t. It’s a man’s world.I don’t feel like a second citizen for that. When Raaz 2 was made everyone kept asking why I wasn’t in it. But I never worried about that. No point in crying about it.”

Moving on from Race, Bipasha has just signed her second comedy.Coincidentally comedy reprises the Mr Fraud trio.

Laughs Bipasha, “That’s right Sanjay , Ajay and I are together again in All The Best. This is the one film I’ll enjoyed doing.I had a ball doing No Entry. Intially I had too many inhibitions about Bollywod. No Entry made me drop those inhibitions. I’m sure Rohit Shetty’s All The Best will make me more uninhibited. ... It’s a fun film and I don’t have to always do roles that reflect my personality. Sometimes it’s fun to do fun film.”

Bipasha has signed only one film this year. “I don’t want do any more work than my pace allows me. I don’t want to compete with anybody. I’ve made a niche right from my first film. I’m Bipasha Basu. I don’t think there’s any replacement for that. I enjoy my work. But there so much more my vocation as an actor than just acting. I can do stage shows, be a businesswoman, work for social causes.I keep busy 24 by 7. At this stage of my life I don’t need to sit and pine for a role.”

Priyanka and Ranbir are doing Siddharth Anand's next rom-com, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala.

Says a source, "It's a love story set in the USA and both Siddharth and Sajid were very keen to cast this fresh pair together." Before this, Sajid was planning to make a love story between a fat girl and a good-looking cool guy but now that script has been kept on hold as no actress wanted to put on weight for the role.

Now Siddharth is working on a new script for Ranbir and Priyanka. He refuses to say much, "It's too early to talk about it but yes, Ranbir and Priyanka have been signed on. Since the film is based abroad we are figuring out the logistics of weather, dates etc. It's a romantic comedy with a twist."

About the rumours that Katrina Kaif was doing the film opposite Ranbir, Siddharth says, "That was mere speculation which started as Katrina and I used to meet to discuss Bachna Ae Haseeno. Katrina was doing the film at that time but we later removed her chapter from the film as it was becoming too long."

Last week we reported that Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor, the lead pair of "Kambakkht Ishq", were to walk the red carpet with Sylvester Stallone at the Cannes Film Festival starting on May 13.

Producer Sajid Nadiadwala has now announced that his “Kambakkht Ishq” lead actors will no longer attend the Cannes Film Festival. This is a side effect of the ongoing crisis caused by the producers and distributors vs multiplexes conflict.

"Because of the strike and embargo thereof on new releases in multiplexes, we are not allowed to screen any trailers anywhere or release audio cassettes of new releases. For Cannes, we needed to be there for the worldwide coverage of our trailers which would also be aired on Indian TV channels. But now, we can't release trailers of upcoming releases, so there's no point in going to Cannes," said Sajid.

“This would have been my first trip to Cannes. Akshay, Kareena and I were really looking forward to our trip and to walking the red carpet. But these are minor disappointments compared to the larger picture where everyone in the film industry benefits. Ultimately we all belong to the same family and no personal interest is above the interests of all," added Sajid.

The “Kambakkht Ishq” team was also due to perform at the IPL finals on May 24 in Johannesberg, South Africa, but that too has been cancelled because of the strike.

Meanwhile, one person who will surely be in Cannes during the film festival is Arjun Rampal.

The beverage company, for which he shot an ad for with Nicole Kidman recently, is taking him to Cannes for a day on May 15. He’ll be flown there on a helicopter from Paris and will be put up at a luxury villa.

Also scheduled to attend the Cannes Film Festival are Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan, and Mexican actress Barbara Mori. They will be promoting their upcoming film “Kites”. It remains to be seen whether their plans too will get affected because of the strike.

Shah Rukh Khan lives his life on his own terms: be it his films or his other projects. And for a while, it seemed like King Khan could do no wrong. However, his purchase of the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2008 proved that even great men sometimes make wrong decisions. The Knight Riders were bought by Shah Rukh’s Red Chillies Entertainment in partnership with Juhi Chawla and her husband, Jai Mehta. We pick out the top five moments that Shah Rukh has endured with his team.

1. Last year at the IPL, Shah Rukh Khan and Sourav Ganguly disagreed over issues such as team composition, Sourav’s choice of batting first in the game against Chennai Super Kings and the entertainment tax being imposed for the matches played at Eden Gardens (Shah Rukh reportedly wanted Sourav to speak to the West Bengal Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, about it, but was refused by Sourav).

2. Initially, SRK was very keen to hang out with his team in the dressing room, discussing their strategies for each match. But later, the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit officials stopped Shah Rukh going into the team’s dressing room and the dugout during the IPL match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings.

Shah Rukh had then said, “I like to hang around with the boys. I am very energetic. I am very disappointed that the ICC has stopped me. I don't know the ICC rules, but nobody dare stop me from coming to Kolkata. I'll be there whenever my team plays a match at the Eden.”

3. Then, in 2008, SRK gave an indication that a major decision regarding the team would be taken by Coach John Buchanan. And this year, Buchanan decided on the multiple captaincies, which many in Kolkata saw as another ploy to strip local favourite Sourav Ganguly of captaincy. Buchanan’s idea was eventually shelved, but Ganguly didn't retain his job either, as KKR’s Kiwi stumper Brendon McCullum became the new captain.

Needless to say, Kolkata was not happy, but Shah Rukh said, “For good and bad, the Kolkatans love us one night and one night they do get angry with our decisions. But I promise you guys that the dream I have is to come to Kolkata with the IPL trophy and dance. Will do some new steps for Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo Re.”

But this dream is far from coming true now, as his team only managed to win one match out of the seven they have played.

4. SRK selected six cheerleaders through his reality show Knights and Angels to cheer his team on in South Africa. But the South African cricket management did not allow them on the grounds, and he had no choice but to send them home, promising them work next IPL.

5. After a string of defeats suffered by the Kolkata Knight Riders, team owner Shah Rukh decided not to go back to South Africa unless KKR started to win. He said, “If they are doing well, I will go back. Otherwise, I don't like going back and feeling sad for the boys, because there is a lot of talent in the team and a lot of hard work.”

But that was not why Shreemad Jagadguru Shankaracharya Shree Shree Raghaveshwara Bharathi Swamiji, the 36th pontiff of Shree Ramachandrapura Mutt, sent a special invitation to the actress to visit his ashram in Karnataka.

The sizzling actress, who has apparently been approached to play a celibate yogini who bonds with Jesus Christ during his journey to India in Australian director Drew Heriot’s The Aquarian Gospel, was referred to by the mutt’s guru as one with “a pure soul”. Her ‘purity’ apart, Mallika has another connection with Karnataka and that’s not a “myth” — she shot for Jackie Chan’s film The Myth in Hampi in which she played an Indian princess.

Mallika, of course, couldn’t turn down the Shankaracharya’s request and flew down from LA where she was busy with post-production of her film Hisss. After the pujas, Mallika with her bare hands dug up the land where Brahmachari Lord Hanuman’s largest monument — over 15 stories — will be built.

After the Shankaracharya showed the hottie his kindness, it was Mallika’s turn to show her generosity. She invited him to the US. If the pontiff accepts her invitation, he would be the first Shankaracharya in the history of the mutt to have travelled to the US.

Mallika is completely in awe of the Shankaracharya. “After having spent most of my time recently in the US, it was a great honour for me to make a special trip back to India to meet the Shankaracharya. In a very special way it reconnected me to my Hindu roots. The experience was truly one of the best ones of my life and I will never forget it,” said the Menaka, oops, Mallika of Bollywood.

ARBAAZ KHAN AND WIFE MALAIKA SHOOT A SEDUCTIVE NUMBER FOR FLIM

Malaika Arora has shot for a seductive, sensuous number with husband Arbaaz Khan in Goa for Indrajit Lankesh's Prem Ka Game, (earlier titled Shaadi Ke Side Effects).

The song is called Mere dil pe tera hi haq hai where Malaika plays the temptress and the song has been choreographed by Piyush.

Arbaaz Khan says, "It's a dream sequence where I am fantasising about romancing this beautiful woman. I knew that Malaika was perfect for the song and I wanted her in the film as I believe she's my lucky charm. It's our first performance together." Malla does not have a role in the film, she only appears in the song. Khan adds, "Both of us have always wanted to do a film together but haven't been able to get anything which suits both of us."

Prem Ka Game is a light-hearted comedy about a married man, Prem (played by Arbaaz). He says the film deals with the roadblock in marriages called 'The Seven-Year Itch', "In one scene, he dreams of his fantasy woman (Malaika) and how he would seduce her and that's what our song is about."

Arbaaz says he felt no discomfort getting intimate for the camera with his wife, "I was extremely comfortable. But of course, there are no prizes for guessing who is the better dancer obviously Malaika is!"
