The awesome Get Moxie Giveaway ended last night with the close of the 8th Annual Blogger Boobie-Thon. We just tallied up all of the participants and picked one via random draw and the winner is….

8th Annual Blogger Boobie-Thon Breaks $13K!

Can I just say, speechless. Totally speechless and blown away and I would say that I was about ready to pass out around 9pm tonight, but now I am so pumped up I couldn’t sleep if I tried. Our final numbers are in and they are truly amazing, more than I ever dreamed. We would have been thrilled to see $10,000—and then $11,000 came and there was JOY! Simple Bliss! But this…this is crazy.

Our little 8th Annual Blogger Boobie-Thon has raised $13,205.00, of which $11,607.25 goes to Komen and $1,597.75 goes to our Bloggers Helping Bloggers recipient, DaGoddess!

We kicked off a week ago, October 1st at 12:01am and as I sit here writing this at 12:05am on October 8th, I can not believe all that we have accomplished. Not just the 1,101 photos that were submitted. Or the 201 number of donations received. We brought awareness to a very serious disease that everyone of us is at risk of getting. And we did it because we don’t want another life taken. That is what Boobie-Thon is about. People can call us porn and they can scream that we’re objectifying woman and reducing them (us) to nothing but a pair of boobies. BUT, we know better. We know why we work so hard and put in so much effort. Not to show a naked pair of breasts on the internet. You can go to a ton of websites to get that. But you’re not gonna make a difference there. But here you can and if we can get people to notice this horrendous disease by posting a pair of racks…we’re gonna keep on doing it!

Year after year after year after year. Because…we know better.

I have so many thoughts racing around my brain and so many thank you’s to give.

Thank you to our founder, Robyn, for starting a little campaign 7 years ago called Boobies To Florida—who knew what was to come!

And then, then there are all of the people who donated. You guys came out with your wallets open and ready to give. In this economy? This much money? THANK YOU! Thank you for getting us here!

And what would the Boobie-Thon BE without any boobies? How do we thank all of the photo participants for baring all to save them all? It’s unconventional to save the least yet so many of you come full force and give it all you got. We really wouldn’t be the Boobie-Thon without your support. Our sincerest thanks for understanding what why we’re hear and wanting to take part in it as well.

Of course, a huge thank you must go out to our dedicated volunteers...you committed to giving of your time and you sat in those computer chairs and refreshed your little hearts out waiting for more photos to arrive, more donations to come in, more information to tweet out. And then some of you came back the next day to do it all over again. Bless your hearts! It is amazing how many people want to help the Boobie-Thon and work for us, for free! Thank you for all of your time and for caring about us and for giving to us.

And I have to say, a special thank you…to Misty, Jenn and Joelle. The three of you keep me balanced and somewhat sane and totally functioning. You are all BAD ASS and wonderful and amazing human beings. You listen to me, you cry with me, you laugh with me. You make this job easier and without you here, I don’t know what I would do. I doubt I could get through 7 days of non-stop Boobies without you all. You each mean so much to me and I am so glad to have you as my friends and personal cheerleaders. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Three years ago, Melissa Connolly (Mel) inherited the yearly Boobie-Thon Charity Event from it’s founder Robyn. I am proud to say that I have worked with Mel all three years and watched the Boobie-Thon grow into something more and more amazing with each year that passes. To say that she works hard on this project would be a gross understatement. Her work for this starts months before the week long event begins, setting up the site and all the behind the scenes stuff that goes on in order to make this a success. She is busy recruiting volunteers, and setting up schedules and when the Boobie-Thon begins… I am pretty positive she does not sleep during the entire seven days.

She is far too busy logging, checking and double checking donations, sending out confirmation emails, twittering, manning the Facebook pages, coming up with incentives to bring in more donations, dealing with the inevitable site issues that may pop up in the background, answering emails, filling in for photo editing and publishing when volunteers are not available - she does it all. I cannot put into words how amazing this woman is. I truly mean that.

Mel, I have worked with you for three years now and it has been an absolute pleasure. I look forward to many more years working together. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Boobie-Thon! I am sure that all the volunteers share in my sentiment when I say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that you do.

So it seems, our little Breast Cancer Awareness site has raised over $10,000.00—thanks to all of you who have supported us through the years and the many of you who have supported us for the first time as well!

You have blown us away. All of us at Boobie-Thon are so excited and happy and overwhelmed by your generosity and your love for the Boobie-Thon! Thank you for making this year record breaking, for helping us achieve our goal of $10,000.00!

We are still here until 11:59pm EDT tonight and will be accepting donations through that time.

Where do I even start? I guess at the top, as of this morning, we’ve recorded a total of $9,505.00 donations. Our goal for 2009 was $10,000.00 and we are so close. But we still need your help! You can donate up until 11:59pm EDT tonight. TONIGHT!

Photo submissions will probably close around 8pm tonight (though don’t hold me to that just yet…), so keep on showing us your boobies and we’ll keep on showing them to the world. We have volunteers on right now waiting for to edit your photos and get them up on the site. Let’s keep ‘em busy. Get your rack out!

If you’ve donated already and/or submitting a photo, there are still other ways you can help. Pick one or two or all of them and help us get to our goal. Do Something!

I am still myself

I have never been one to join a cause. When I was diagnosed a month ago, I insisted I would never be one of those women who feel some sort of grand sisterhood with other survivors, or wave a banner at a walk. I am not about to go to any meetings to talk about my boobs. Hell, it’s only been a week since the damn thing came out, and I am tired of discussing it already.

But what I have realized is that I can say, “Here I am, this is what I look like now, this is who I am, and I am still myself.” I had a survivor reach out a hand to help me face my fears, and now I can do the same with whoever follows behind me. I am not my boob,and I am not my cancer, and neither are you. You follow me, and I’ll follow her, and together we will get through this.
