Why Do I Write This Blog? Part 2

Now, I am apparently an adult with a little fat kid and a little confidence.

I write this blog because of you. Why are you reading it? Sure, I monitor my life through films, books, any media I can get my hands on. But that is simply my best "coping mechanism." I write this blog because I have been through alot. And I am not mad about it.

Fruitvale Station and other things...

So I realized that planning a date once a week was a little over-zealous thinking on my part. But I'm still really excited about this date thing. So Monday night we were both free and I "surprised" Eric by taking him to see Fruitvale Station. Ok, let me interject here that Eric is like a movie virgin. I think he has maaaaaaybe seen 10 movies. But I WANT him to like movies the way I do, so I put a LOT of thought into which movies I ask him to watch with me. Well, we both absolutely loved it. Another reason I chose it is because of its ratings at Sundance. I have never seen a Sundance winner I haven't liked. Oh, and it started at 5:40 and I can't stay awake past 10 :)

August 1st.. and other things

I love beginnings. Beginning of school, summer, Christmas season. I'm a sucker. So today when I realized that it was August first, I decided to start something. Something I will (try) to do everyday.
Living with someone can get rough sometimes, and lately Eric and I have been going at it over anything you can name. So I decided we are going to make time every day simply for our relationship. No other kind of discussion or distractions.

Day 1:
Eric called me at 9 (when I get done cleaning ) and asked me if I wanted to have breakfast at Panera before he went to work. He catches on quickly! Anyway, of course I said yes and just sitting there with him was good. For me. For us.

Weddings.

Over the weekend, I got to participate in one of my favorite activities! Attend a wedding!! I will get to how amazing it was but let me fast forward to the moment. That moment at every wedding. The "father-daughter" dance. I never bring up my dad. I don't play the pity card, I just don't really care one way or the other. But weddings. They get me. The way the dads cry, and hold onto their daughter so tight. I literally can't imagine doing that. Ha. So basically, this is a practical thing more than some emotional break down kinda-thing. See, I don't even hug my dad. I see him In December, May and August. Anyway, back to the scene: Eric's cousin Katie is in her Dad's arms, they're both crying, they sing the lyrics to the song to each other. Which of course had to be Butterfly Kisses! Now pan over and find that girl in the white and black dress. Thats me. I'm sobbing. "I'll never have this," I tell myself and cry more. "This girl is so lucky. Does she know that?" But I don't even know her. I'm sure she has pent up emotions that come out sometimes. So why am I crying exactly? I have no idea. It baffles me. I'm not crying because my dad died last year and this makes me sad. That makes sense. But my sobbing doesn't. I don't feel jealous. If I cried because I was jealous, I wouldn't even be thinking about this still. Because I can NOT figure out the tears.
If I have a wedding ( hhmm maybe now I know why I don't want a wedding! ) I would have someone to walk me down the isle. I could have someone to do my "father daughter dance" with someone. My stepdad, own dad and Eric's dad would do one or all of these things. But that's not that I'm worried about. I don't even care if my Dad's feelings are hurt if I don't ask him to participate. I just don't know! I can imagine dancing with my mom, hugging her tighter than ever before and balling on her shoulder. So maybe I'll just do that. Anyhow, here are some pics from the beautiful day!

Facts: Love can transcend continents, races, languages, even breakups. This is a picture of my Hispanic Momma and Tia. Although I met them through my ex boyfriend, we have continued a relationship and its great. People are people. Women are women. They love just as I love. While I was in Honduras for 2 weeks, "Tia" as she's known to me now, was a savior. She was the medium I needed between there and home. She was that motherly love that I yearned for sometimes, 3,000 miles away where I was the different one. Not only did she do the logisitical things for us, take us out to dinner, let us use her car, etc, she did so much more. She bridged a gap for me that I never knew existed. She showed me that she loved just as deeply as we love, here in the "US," and possibly greater. She went out of her way to maintain contact with me since that trip over two years ago. She radiates love and beauty and I'm so excited to hang with her while she's here :)

I started this blog as a way to catalog the books I read and hopefully get people interested in reading them as well. I still read and I still want to do that but more importantly, I feel this can be an outlet for this to be said that people don't talk about. 9 out of 10 blogs I read, it seems like everything is just honky-doory. We all know that is not the truth, so why do people feel pressured to present it that way? Call me a pessimist but I am a realist. I am 25 years old, trying to figure out life in every sense, mostly by myself. Don't get me wrong. I KNOW I am lucky. I have a degree, I have the best mom and best boyfriend in the world. I have a great place in my favorite city. I have a job, friends, endless opportunities. But guess what? All those things also bring stress. I have a teaching degree- why aren't I teaching? I have a boyfriend- why aren't we engaged? I have a job- why are bills still so stressful? No one ever talks or writes about these things. But I can guess that 75% of young women in my position face the same problems. So why not open it up for discussion? Shoot, I'd love to hear how some of you deal with these issues. It shouldn't be some hidden thing where we walk around smiling every day when we can't pay our electric bill and your car needs $700 worth of work done to it. In no way am I saying that I don't enjoy life, or you shouldn't either. I'm just saying, open up the discussion.
