A sizeable group of people attended the event, and Kinsella gave us goosebumps with his beautiful prose.  People who had actually VISITED the Field of Dreams because of his book Shoeless Joe came to the event, one even bringing a baseball for him to sign. 

It was a very special evening, complete with all manner of delicious sugary goodies.

There is something unbeatably delicious about a good book, enjoyed in a beam of sunlight.  That hazy, warm glow illuminating your pages and warming your bones.  Or perhaps you like leaning up against a tree, the shade keeping you cool on a warm day, the trunk firm and supportive against your back.  Maybe you're a full on sun worshipper, spread out on a towel or blanket at the beach, a paperback perched in front of you, a cool drink to your right.  How does the sun, and your reading experience please you the most?  Leave us your comments, and give other summer readers some new ideas!

Our mystery cabinets are starting to get filled with books!

Book Man Crew represents Chilliwack and their business on the morning after the riots in Vancouver.  True Canadian spirit, being the change we want to see in the world.

So the rumours are true; we are opening up a second branch of The Book Man in Abbotsford come July 1st.  We'll keep you posted, but thought that at the very least, we should make a little announcement about it here. 

The store itself will be located in Little Oak Mall on Bourquin, and will be approximately 1600 square feet, a mere baby in comparison with our Chilliwack store (5,000 square feet)  We'll have access to our database, and will be happy to bring anything and everything that customers in Abby would like to see out from our Chilliwack branch.

Nietzsche, our bookstore cat in Chilliwack will be staying put, but we have been checking out other feline friends at Safe Haven to see if we can find the right cat for our Abbotsford store.  We have the landlord's permission, and are looking forward to giving another amazing cat a home in our new branch.

We immediately put together a pretty package of stuff for him, including a mug, a book bag and a t-shirt.  Then we remembered that amazon would kick us off for sending him anything with our website on it, and took everything but the t-shirt out.  A cool version of a Fahrenheit 451 graced the front of the shirt, and we sent it off with a little love note from the staff, along with the book that he had ordered (Nine Hundred Grandmothers by R. A. Lafferty). 

This morning we received an email from him including amazing quotes such as "You are wonderful people"  Turns out the shirt we sent him is the exact cover of his first copy of Fahrenheit 451.  He also tweeted our website and a comment about the shirt we sent him.... he has 1.5 million followers on twitter, so this is nothing to be sneezed at.

What a positively delightful start to a Friday morning.  It's amazing to think that an author of his calibre still takes the time to say thank you, and even gave us a shout out.  Cheers to the good guys out there who stay true to their fans!
