Colline

French designer Gilles Belley is a modern designer and creator of the environmentally conscious Organic Factory: Agromaterials. Gilles Belley is the winner of the 2009 “Bourse Agora” design award, an award that promotes young design talent. This research project was initiated by the art center LA CUISINE in collaboration with the L.C.A (Laboratory of Agro-Industrial Chemistry) in Toulouse, France.

Brindille

Organic Factory is made of exclusively organic biodegradable agromaterials (agricultural waste). Utilizing these materials, Belley fashioned biodegradable elements for the home including planters, aromatic diffusers, and aromatherapeutic bath oils. The Organic Factory: studies and sketches from nature portfolio include more of his expansive ideas as he further investigates the potential of argomaterials for domestic use.

Inflorescence (Bath aroma’s)

Inflorescence is made of aromatic and soluble materials that combine geometry and nature. Muscari flowers and aromatic characteristics of the flower contain antibacterial, antiseptic and analgesic oils. The buttons stand out to be immersed in bath water and dissolved, releasing perfumed oils with aromatherapy properties.

Rameau

Organic Factory is far more than highly innovative design; it is art that “plays with continuities and similarities between artificial and natural to propose a set of objects whose shapes and functions are manufactured from nature”. Our need for sustainable domestic resources is as important as the need for fuel and energy.

Belley's Energy Saving Power Adapter

Organic factory explores the role of re-useable resources in our everyday lives. Belley is also responsible for the creation of the elegant energy saving power adapter built to reduce energy consumption of electrical appliances while in standby mode. This device cuts energy consumption in half for devices that account for nearly 10% of all household energy use.

Colline (Organic fertilizer)

Small geographic form eroding under the action of water, the Colline partially buries in its pot. Its base, made of finer materials contains seed mixed with the agromaterial. After several days of watering, the decomposition of the base releases the seeds and organic nutrients. The Colline itself, much thicker that its base will erode over a longer period of time, delivering nutrients to the plant throughout its growth.

Plaine

This project investigates our unnecessary relationship with unnatural materials and the possibility of healthier alternatives. Belley’s impressive use of diffusion, decomposition, and evaporation illustrates the great potential and usefulness of biodegradable design.

Fruit (Odor neutralizer)

Inspired by the cypress fruit whose scales separate in maturity disseminating volatile essences with antiseptic properties. When wet, Fruit emits aromatic molecules that neutralize unpleasant odors.

New Photography is an annual exhibit presented by the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.  Curated by Eva Respini, Associate Curator in the Department of Photography.  New Photography 2009 showcases the work of six young multi-disciplinary artists.  This exhibit is about more than just photography. It is about the evolution and redefinition of art by the artists.

The New Photography series turned twenty-four in 2009. This year, the works included are considered a recent significant work in photography that “examines and expands the conventional definitions of the medium”.   Over the years, the series has introduced over sixty-eight artists from fifteen different countries. This years’ exhibit will be open at MOMA until January 10th, 2010.

In the past, New Photography has featured only two to four artists. This year, six artists, mostly Americans (with the exception of Walead Beshty from the UK), were chosen. The diversity of the artists and their art offers the observer a new way to view photography as a broadly expressive medium. “As the photographic medium is rapidly transforming, the artists included in this exhibition question what it means to make a photograph in the twenty-first century. Diverse in their points of view, these artists collectively examine and expand the conventional definitions of the medium of photography.” Eva Respini

By exploring “what it means to make a photograph in the 21^st century”, New Photography is expanding the boundaries of photography in art. This series illustrates how photography by practice and definition has progressed over the years. It has grown to incorporate new techniques brought on by digital advances, replacing traditional methods, and redefining the process by which photographs are made.

I recently returned from a wonderful trip to Los Angeles California. The place where dreams are made. I had a wonderful time and it was very nice to get out of the cold for a spell. The weather was beautiful and the food was amazing. The first night, we partied at the Viceroy Santa Monica. The Viceroy is a luxury hotel that attracts exclusive clientele. I was very impressed with the decor and accommodations offered. Although I did not get to see any of the rooms, I am positive they are as equally amazing as the rest of the establishment. The majority of our time was spent outdoors in the cabana and pool area. 

There were plenty of cabana's for dinning and lounging. 

The interior and bar area was a mix of posh, modern, and Victorian inspired decor.

If you are in the Santa Monica area I urge you to stop by just for drinks or to have dinner. I had a ton of fun. The bartenders were very friendly and the wait staff was very attentive. The crowd was young and attractive and everyone was having a good time. While we were there a TV show was being filmed so we were able to get the full LA experience. I can't think of anything negative to say about the entire night. I will definitely consider booking a room the next time I'm in town.

This was posted in January via Design Boom, but I thought I would pass it on given the recent events in Haiti.

Jean herard celeur, andre eugene and guyodo (along with several other younger artists)
are at the core of the movement, 'grand rue sculptors', a community of artists living from a
downtown neighbourhood of haiti's capital, port-au-prince. the newest art community
to have emerged within the last ten years, they have produced art which reflects a heightened,
gibsonesque, lo-sci-fi, dystopian view of their society, culture and religion, bringing haitian art
into the 21st century, opening up new avenues for the vodou-inspired arts of the country.
their sculptural collages of engine parts, medical debris and electronics, TV sets, skulls,
bed frames, scrap metal and discarded lumber, turning the detritus of a failing economy
into post-apocalyptic totems lining the streets.

love love wang. he's one of my fav's. loved this show ripped tights and all. im a girl, but i don't always feel like being sexy or even pretty for that matter. to be honest i almost completely prefer mens fashion over womens. I want to be comfortable in my clothes without having to make a big deal about getting dressed. a beautiful woman is beautiful no matter how she's dressed. i love the nonchalance of it all and how he doesn't try to keep up with current trends.
