The Boom adheres to the principle of ‘thinking outside the box’, reflecting novel ways of expressing ourselves by unifying the alternative and psychedelic culture of the world. It is a weeklong experience away from dominant culture in the Portuguese sunny unspoilt nuclear-free lands.

We are tired of the tyranny with which corporate brands relentlessly invade peoples’ minds. Following two years of intense research, we have finally discovered a fair trade cola that will be made available during Boom 2012. All other products will be in line with the ethics of fair trade and localism, keeping the emphasis on supporting local producers and bio products.

The correlation between the western calendar and the phases of the moon make an August 2012 an interesting phenomena for the fact that it will be illuminated by two full moons!
In the same year the earth, the sun, and the center of the galaxy will come together in an extremely rare, cosmic alignment. The cosmic mutations and the impetus for freedom we all feel make 2012 the most special year ever in the history of Boom.

We have always followed the ascendant trajectory of the Full Moon of August every two years. Due to the very unique phenomenon of two full moons in the same month in 2012, Boom will begin at the end of July and continue until the early August.

Initially, this would clash with other festival dates, namely Ozora, which is usually takes place during the first couple weeks of August. It is not something that either the Boom Team or the Ozora would want as it would divide the scene and send a negative energy into the mentalscape of the psy-trance tribe.
Both teams have agreed on accommodating the dates of each other’s festivals so that the trance scene can enjoy both.

Public first is Boom’s motivation and we are very happy that both festivals have agreed. We Are One!

Boom 2012 will feature DJs, live acts and bands that play longer music sets – the sense of journey is finally back!

Short sets by artists take away the essence of the journey and this is something commonly suffered at many festivals and parties. Often than not, something meaningful is being lost when the artist, while under time constraints, is forced to play a short set narrative. We are tired of the tyranny of quantity over quality and of short-lived music sets.

As a result, in 2012, we are focusing more on the flow of the music, hence inviting Djs, acts and bands for longer sets to allow the sense of the music journey. We’ve been listening to hundreds of hours of new music in many genres and we are compiling an exciting music flow!

We’re currently in the process of planning the layout of a caravan park within Boom Land – which we believe will help us to overcome and make up for one of the biggest criticisms that we received in 2010.

Back in 2010, we found ourselves moving the Boom site to a new location at the lake – and we only had three months to do it! The new location really was like a dream come true although at the same time, there were some fairly big issues that we had to deal with.

What a mission! The biggest challenge was transforming a site without any infrastructure – from land that had been used over the last 20 years for cowfarming, into a sustainable village with water, energy and art!


It took from May until August to install 15km of electric cables, 240,000 lt water tanks, 12 km of water tubes and internet connections. We built roadways, cleaned up the whole place, built showers as well as almost 180 composting toilets, the communal kitchen, campsite, solar power stations and everything else that comprises the whole festival infrastructure.

Time and the actual geophysics of the compound made it impossible to build a proper caravan park within the actual parameters of the festival venue itself. For those living within those parameters, everything was nice and comfortable. However, for those Boomers with caravans, the experience was much harder, which keeps breaking our hearts.

At this moment in time, we are seeking out the best location within the festival site to build a caravan park, and working out the most viable way to distribute water pipes and showers for caravans only.
We are fully committed to the new design to make sure your caravan stay at Boom 2012 will be a super-comfortable and hassle free experience. You are one of our main priorities. We’ll keep you posted on developments. With Love from the Boom Team!

We feel the economic and financial downturn is affecting more and more people. We want Boom to be an inclusive gathering, and we were sad to hear so many people regret the fact they didn’t have the money to participate in Boom 2010. We will expand our special price system to countries that are facing economic problems.

Boom, as you know, is a no-corporate-sponsorship zone, so we rely solely on the sales of tickets, bar revenues and the renting of spaces. It makes financial sustainability a real challenge, so much so, that in Boom 2010, we didn’t even break even.

However, at Boom, we are opting to reduce prices and will ensure that there is a strategy for social awareness in place regarding pricing in 2012.

We have lived and continue to live in unison with the Universal Mind. At Boom, we hope that we have inspired thousands of Boomers to take home with them, the seeds of change. So it is now time for the art of cinema to breathe a graphic, visual perspective into Boom 2010.

The Boom experience has been inspiring a number of documentaries, movies and creative projects since 2004. They have brought to life the colours of the Boom, painting a picture of cherished memories – the actors are each and everyone of us; the result, a magical encounter.

We are now involved in an exciting new project, the movie of Boom 1997-2010, that is now being edited in studio. It is a documentary by some of the individuals that were there when the magic first began. It encapsulates the legend of the Boom by projecting a retrospective from the early days in 1997, to the present time. We are partnering with our long time partners in crime, Psynema from Germany.

It is a film about conscience, mysticism, art, party and change. It visualises streams of consciousness and awareness to make you dance in trance and open the gateway to your own creative portals.

It was back in 2007 that we published the “Boom Book”, the first book ever to be released on psytrance. Recently, we’ve been happy to help the publication of the “Goa Book” – which entails a comprehensive insight into the history of psytrance.

The first book to be launched on the psytrance movement, the “Boom Book”, an independent edition, commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Boom Festival. Three years on and we’re delighted to see the publication of a historical account of the Goa/Psy Trance movement – created with love by our dear friends from Austria Tom Rom and Pascal Querner.

The book “Goa – 20 Years of Psychedelic Trance“, is edited by Tom Rom/Pascal Querner and features  41 authors, 38 photographers, 650 pictures in 280 pages in 36 chapters. The new Goa DVD is an important part of the Goa Book (by Psynema (El Geko and BuzzT). The book and DVD is now available in German, soon in English (orders can be made already to info@nachtschatten.ch).

Boom has supported the development of this book with a donation and will continue to support all projects that seek to expand the Love for the psychedelic trance scene. Well done boys!

The cosmic alignment of the Sacred Earth is a remarkable indicator of the transformation to global awakening. As we liberate ourselves from the impermanent nature of conditional existence and connect with the meta-consciousness of Gaia – transpersonal and psychedelic experiences become apparent.

It’s been an incredible year so far: From winning the Outstanding Greener Festival Award in 2010, to more recently achieving the European Festival Award for “Clean n’ Green Festival 2010”. As the only independent, no-logo entity to win the latter, we dedicate this award to all of you Boomers, to our wonderful team, and to the cosmos that has guided us in these steps to return to the Sacred Earth, all that She has given to us.
